[SP-F6] The Panther Hunts <<Feeding the Enemy>>

Recommended Posts

The Neko girl stretched as she warped on the sixth floor, needing to go to the great depths for hunting of a specific breed of panthers. She brought up her inventory to bring out the song that was written for her by Jomei. She smiled knowing about the special effect it had, all she had to do was sing the words while the music played. Following just as she was instructed to do, the panther girl recited the words. A small pink aura enveloped her for the entire duration of the chant, she felt as though the random critters were looking at Vale more than the other wildlife or players. She was shocked that the song would have such an immediate feeling effect. With that Vale smiled, she had all she needed in order to find the perfect familiar to join her in her dastardly escapades. Vale began rushing her way out of the town to begin the hunt for the panther cub of her desire.

As Vale reached the edge of town she triggered her wild-running, getting down to running on all four of her paws she traversed great distances quickly synergizing it with her charge skill's passive. After a decent amount of time elapsed, she began to reach the Forest that resided in the deep chasm on the far side of the discovered map from the Town. Over in this dense misty forest held a regal looking group of panthers, known as the Shadow Pride. Powerful panthers that lurk and stalk their prey with keen eyesight and precise power. Once she was closing in on the entrance to the Great Deaths, she looked around the mass amount of foliage around her managing to find a flower worthwhile of her time to collect.

The trip into the Great Depths was one that Vale was somewhat dreading, it's deep enough in the cavern that one cannot see well due to the sheer haze glossed over with their bare eyes. Luckily with Vale's practice in Search and Detect, entering the forest she had better visibility than she anticipated. Though the range of sight was still heavily limited, it made looking through the foliage all the much harder due in part that without the strong sunlight she wasn't able to get good looks into nooks and crannies. She knew during the day the Shadowpride Panthers were non-hostile and it was possible to befriend the beasts, but at night they are heavily territorial and want no one to be in their midst during their aggression time.

Vale was quite skeptical that the essence was not following her and waiting to catch her in a terrible moment. But she couldn't act as if she were going to be attacked, she wasn't the one to change her ideals and choices by the actions of another. Focused she continued forward sifting her hands through bushes having to rely more on the search and detect skill now more than ever before. Digging through the bush she found the carcass of some insects, something that would definitely be useful. Although most girls were very disgusted by bugs, Vale was never honestly bothered by them. She loved watching ant trails, moths in flight, seeing the various other insects interact with plant life. Something about it just brought peace to her soul.

As often as Vale found a material, she was also finding herself pulling her hands up emptyhanded as well. This, in essence, didn't bother her at all just made the patience that it took to find a Shadowpride Panther and to follow it back to its den all that much more annoying to wait for. The nice thing that came with being in their nest area during the day was the fact the adult and children panthers approach you as they look for masters worthy enough to follow. It was an extremely rare thing for a Shadowpride Panther to allow one of its kin to follow a human but it was not impossible for one to earn their trust. Vale read up everything she could about the Shadowpride Panthers cause they reminded her mostly of herself. It was quaint to the panther-woman.

The fog was getting thicker and heavier for the girl, making it more and more difficult to isolate any creature, let alone small little materials that she often passed over in clear views. Scratching her head she continued to prowl about looking around for any tracks or any other bit of information she could gather from the area in order to achieve her goal. Seeing some footprints akin to a large cat, she found her first clue and began to follow the path it leads. She didn't care how long it took for her to meet with the Shadowpride, she just hoped she found the familiar and escaped the forest before the night time came up. The Shadowpride were feared by many an NPC that they had completely abandoned any path that leads into the Great Depths, she was one of only few who was willing to traverse it.

It took a fair bit of time, but the Neko managed to find herself a Shadowpride Patriarch. Vale whistled gently which she read was the appropriate thing to do in order to get the attention of the Panther. The massive beast turned to look at Vale, it turned around and walked to her, the feeling of the need to freeze became evident, despite the cubs start out at only roughly the knee-high level of someone averaged size, The beasts could grow up to fifteen feet in size. Vale put out her paw-like hand which took the panther patriarch by surprise. It sniffed her hand then slowly began to sniff her all around. The girl couldn't help but laugh as the wiggling nose was tickling her all over. It was almost embarrassing if it weren't a panther and a human instead. While her back was against a tree she managed to pull off some tree bark with her other hand grabbing onto the tree.

The Panther finally accepted the woman worth riding upon the patriarchs back so the rest of the Shadowpride kin could begin their judgment over the panther-like woman. As Vale pulled away from the tree, she managed to yank off more bark with her hand causing her to laugh some more. Ironically she was having so much fun despite technically being in a highly dangerous position. She inserted the bark into her inventory and mounted the backside of the panther patriarch. Within a moment of her getting situated on the back of the massive beast, it began to charge through the forest at speeds Vale could easily surpass. But it was nice to be carried by the beast and it gave her a sense of closeness with the Patriarch, there were a lot of thoughts just simply buzzing through her mind at once.

As Vale rode the back of the beast she couldn't help but reach her hand out with claws one hand completely extended. Being patient she went with the flow of the wind like she did in her martial arts training way back in her life. The wind pressure was enough to let her get an idea of where a material was dangling at that she could reach without jumping. Just as the moment presented itself Vale ripped her claw in a number of different ways clawing the air enough times to have an apple drop in her hand and split a bunch of times revealing all the seeds inside the fruit to be harvested for her alchemical purposes. Satisfied that even in this world her training from ages past was still prevalent and not made obsolete by a system controlled environment.

The massive panther was beginning to slow down as it was beginning to approach it's den where the rest of the family of Panthers to this one resided. Vale couldn't exactly tell what the scenery was like, but the giant tree's that stretched so high they felt as though the disappeared into the sky with beams of light managing to make its way through the canopy. Albeit the light was not strong enough to reach all the way down in the area that Vale stood it made a wonderfully beautiful looking thing to gaze upon with the fast-moving beast. Something she would not have been able to perceive if she was doing the movement herself, sometimes even if the transportation is slower, it can change the entire feel of it through the feeling of peace alone.

After a few minutes later the Panther Patriarch stopped and brought its body into a laying position so Vale would be able to get off the beast. Immediately a cluster of panthers were beginning to surround her, Vale loved this dearly holding her paw out so the panthers would sniff it. Not too long after sniffing her paws did the little cubs climb on top of her to try and lick her face and rub their heads against hers. Vale couldn't help but giggle and laugh as it was somewhat tickling, while down on the ground petting the panthers she saw a small rock that was special to this region. Vale took a short pause from petting to acquire the rock and return to petting the adorable but thick-skinned cubs. This was as happy a life as she could have at the moment.

There was another rock near, but the girl couldn't get to it because the Panther cub was beginning to fall asleep on top of the Neko girl. She rolled slightly to lay the panther on its side, using the moment she quickly got to her knee's to reach the second rock and put it in her inventory. Then went back to petting the panther cub laying down on its side, using her paws to help scratch the black furred cat's belly. The panther seemingly loved it and stretched to get even more comfortable. Other little panther cubs began to get slightly jealous of the time and attention that first cub was getting. They began to walk up and rub their heads on her, she laughed even more happily and attempted to pet each and every single panther cub that sat around her.

It was about time Vale at least get up off the ground and not just play with the cubs, she needed to prove to the Panthers that she was indeed worthy of their kin. Something she knew she would still have time for regardless if she had obtained the acceptance from the beast at least. But it was urgent enough to warrant trying to impress the larger ones effective immediately. As she made her way from the pawing panther cubs, she scooped up a large bundle of Shadowpride loose fur knowing this would be helpful for something major in the future. Vale put the loose fur into a vial and placed it into her inventory. With it out of her way, her demeanor changed as she looked at the Matriarch the one panther that not even the patriarch would look directly at.

She looked at the primary Matriarch, her eyes glared deep into Vales she following in kind by staring deep into the Matriarch's eyes. It was as if she was communicating with the beast on a spiritual level or something, for whatever reason it felt absolutely magical in her mind to have this kind of interaction with an animal of nature. The Matriarch looked into the cave where her primary offspring resided, the Matriarch then shifted her head slightly to look back at Vale and flick her head to indicate to head there. Vale followed the body language and did just as she thought the Matriarch wanted. Just before approaching the den she grabbed a loose panther fang. And prayed into it hoping for the best results before putting the fang into her inventory.

Inside the Cave there sat an unusually larger panther cub, with a scar across it's face leading from just under the left eye to above the nose ending just under the right eye. This panther cub in particular also had bright purple writing upon the creature including a purple glowing crescent moon on the right side of it's face. The cub looked at Vale unamused, Vale sat down and pulled out a slab of sacred minotaur meat. It wasn't the fancy one that she managed to get from Groff, but she had faced many a beast in her past having extra's of the slab was just waiting to be used up. The panther got up from it's laying position and walked over to Vale, beginning to heat the meat. Vale held her hand up to the beast, expecting it to swipe at her hand it nuzzled her hand for a second then batted it away so it could eat more food. Atleast she had gained the creature to respect her being there.

After the beast finished its meal provided by the Panther-like woman, it shrugged its head in a manner to say follow. Vale did just that, following the larger than normal cub back over to its mother. The special panther cub roared at its mother when sitting down, the mother roared back. This went back and forth a few times, unsure of what to do Vale twiddled her thumbs and looked around trying to not make any noise as to not interrupt the beasts conversation. Eventually the roaring stop and all the beasts began to look at Vale. The feeling of being watched now at an all-time high she looked at the beast she fed and looked back at the Matriarch. WIth that the Matriarch nodded to her and the entire clan of panthers began to roar out. Vale began to panic in her head despite not showing it in her actions.

With the roar fest, all the panthers had complete disinterest in Vale at this point. The only one that would look at her, was the one she fed which roared at her and began walking away. Vale took this as a sign to probably follow the beast, thus she did walk in stride with the majestic rare beast. While they walked Vale wondered if the beast could understand her so she decided to ask a simple question, "So does that mean you're my familiar?" The beast nodded once, "Just to make sure you understand me, can you nod twice." The beast responded in kind to demonstrate they could technically communicate, "Does that mean you're going to fight with me and do as I say?" She wanted to be thorough and understand just what lengths she could work with her pet, which promptly shook its head.

Confused while she managed to accidentally pull off yet another large piece of bark off a tree with relative ease, all she could do was shove it in her inventory. The beast was just being stubborn with it's answers, but there was no doubt about it that the creature was sentient and understood humans clearly, "So you're telling me if I were in a life and death situation. You would not budge and help me if someone gave you some meat." The beast nodded, Vale looked at the beast annoyedly, "You know you're kind of mean right?" She asked, to which the beast nodded once again. It was as if Vale and the Familiar she had managed to tame happened to have a mind of his own, and that mind was one of a grumpy lazy fool.

She continued to argue with her pet, not yet set on what she wanted to name the creature. She found a friend, the first that she would just constantly bicker with since it wouldn't listen. She gritted her teeth at it, "I'm just gonna call you Eclipse cause your personality is blocking all the fun!" She shouted at it with actually a small sense of love in it. The Panther noticeably laughed at Vale, "I don't think you can come up with a better name then, ECLIPSE! Since all you can do is roar and not make real words." to which the now named Eclipse looked a Vale, bringing up one claw from its palm effectively giving the woman the bird. That's when it hit her, "Oh my god, I got a more lethargic Chewie on my hand." She said in a defeated sigh.

They slowly began to exit the Great Depths from strangely the spot that Vale entered the dark fog covered zone. She looked back down at Eclipse, the Panther sitting down to look at the setting sun, "I am sorry I took you away from your family." Vale apologized as she shifted her gaze from the setting sun to her, "But I promise. To love you unconditionally for every day that I yet breath." The panther shrugged giving Vale an immediate irritated face, "Oh come on I'm trying to be sweet and nurturing to you, ya grump!" Vale gritted her teeth at the Panther that seemed to not have a single care in the world, it just followed in stride to make sure it was always standing beside the beautiful Neko martial artist for it's coming days.
