[Shop-F1]The Ebon Apothecary

Recommended Posts

Shop was a bit of an overstatement, the Ebon Apothecary was more of a glorified stall with a locking door. But it was all that Saix really needed, just a place where he could begin his craft. He knew of few Alchemists, and to his knowledge none had bothered to open a shop. Seeing a means to corner a share of the market, Saix had made the necessary arrangements to open The Ebon Apothecary.

He was a little more sociable than his friend 9Lives, and did not balk at the idea of selling his wares. So he had decided to open the venue to the public, with a healthy warning that Guild Business would come first.

The Ebon Apothecary

A well worn counter divides the shop in half, with the single crafting station and various inventory chests behind a worn counter. A sheet of paper along with ink and quill sit in the center of the smooth counter, with a message written in neat handwriting bearing names and requests, a formal waiting list as written by the Alchemist.

Gardening Can Be A Chore. - Near the village of Horunka to the East of Starting City of the First Floor is a large wooded grove filled with plant-type monsters known as «Little Nepent». These monsters are an essential part of the «Secret Medicine of the Forrest» quest, and are known to drop «Vials of Little Nepent Sap» which can be brewed into «Health Potions». New players are encouraged to ask Saix to accompany them for help if needed.

This Looks Like a Job For an Exterminator - «Wind Wasps» are dispersed across Floor 2, where they are regularly hunted for their good Xp. They also happen to drop «Wind Wasp Needles» and «Vials of Wind Wasp Venom», which are useful in creating a basic paralysis poison. Go to the hills of Floor 2 and slay enough of the «Wind Wasps» to retrieve 4 «Wind Wasp Needles» and 2 «Vials of Wind Wasp Venom» and Saix will craft you 2 «Wind Wasp Throwing Picks» and 1 «Paralysis Pellet». It had been a busy day thus far, filled with categorizing his inventory and setting up the rather small shop as needed. Saix didn't fancy himself as being much of a business man, he would much rather have been honing his skills out on one of the upper floors of course, but he was quick to realize that the benefits of pursuing his Alchemy Profession would give him an edge in battle. After all, anything he might use to heal himself or debilitate his opponent, would improve his odds of surviving his crazy death game. So, with that in mind, he had set up his shop to give himself a place to practice, and possibly make a little profit on the side. Now that his wares were in order, he was free to begin playing around with the Alchemist options to see what kind of concoction he might brew. Sifting through menus, and carefully grinding ingredients, he discovered that the Alchemy profession was not so difficult in theory. It was very similar to Chemistry class, demanding carefully mixed amounts of various ingredients in exact measurements. Taking a moment to mix his current project, he was rewarded with a bright flash of light, and a small vial of red liquid appeared before him.

Hmm, that hardly seemed useful. Perhaps higher quality attempts would yield better results. He doubted that this particular potion would be very sought after as it was.

Ah well, he still had time for another go today. Taking a moment to consult the menu of available Alchemical Creations, he decided on his next project, and pulled the necessary ingredients from his stock and began the process of carefully grinding them into fine powder. A few minutes later he had his ingredients prepared and began the exacting mixing process, initiating the crafting attempt, being as careful as possible to keep his hands steady so as not to ruin the mix. With a pulse of light, the mix reformed into a small silvery white pellet on the table before him. Well, that was certainly unimpressive, it looked like an asprin tablet. Taking a moment to examine further, he brought up the item particulars. After a quick read, he cocked his head and grinned. This was actually a little more useful.

After a few moments of careful preparation and mixing Saix glanced at the small glass vial filled with the muddy brown colored liquid. Somehow he didn't feel this was a health potion. Pulling the stopper free, he caught the first few fumes from the liquid inside and nearly hurled. He replaced the stopper, looking sick, and muttered to himself "Definitely not a health potion."

Taking careful care to attempt the craft again, Saix prepared his ingredients and made sure the exacting measurements were correct. This time he did not attempt to open the tar black vial, the memory of the horrid smell from his previous attempt still fresh in his mind. Nope nope nope, not going there. With a frown he simply deleted both failures, deciding the loss of materials was worth the price as long as he didn't accidentally spill it anywhere, the smell would never come out.

Yesterday's awful smell was still fresh in his mind and it was enough to make him sick. So, deciding his delicate stomach could not take another whiff of something so foul, Saix wisely decided to conduct his next experiment with the room properly ventilated. To his great surprise, he didn't muck it up. In fact, he succeeded beyond his wildest dreams with a perfect quality Health Item that he just knew would one day come in handy.

Fate is truly a fickle mistress. Bouyed by his success with the Clay Jar of Poison, Saix prepared a second concoction, one that failed rather spectacularly. It only served to reinforce his decision to avoid working with any form of airborne agent for at least a few crafting levels. The last thing he needed was to screw up on some form of poison and accidentally gas himself into oblivion. This attempt at creating a poisoned throwing spike had proven less then successful, leaving him wondering whether or not the previous Perfect Crafting Attempt had been little more than a fluke.

Saix surveyed the results of his latest crafting attempt with a rather sour expression. Wisely upon seeing the brownish color he had chosen not to make the mistake of opening it to check the smell. No, that lesson was well burned into his sinus system. While the smell might have been merely a digital simulation, he could not help but privately suspect that his sense of smell had been irreparably damaged by the experience. He debated using the foul attempt at a Health Potion for a poison, but figured that he would never convince even the dumbest of enemies to actually drink the sewer smelling concoction.

Rolling the shiny black needle in his hands Saix was moderately pleased, he would need to start sticking to things that couldn't smell awful if he failed to create an item of suitable quality. While it may have been a single use item, he was relatively certain that it would make for an effective means of setting up something to be killed more easily. And, as an MMO gamer, that was really all that mattered. Saix had played enough MMO's to know, that virtually nothing in this game was safe. Marauding players would happily murder the peaceful NPC creatures inhabiting the nearby planes if it meant gaining even a single Xp point.

There was something cathartic about being able to just lose yourself in a task. Saix's activities as leader of a Guild afforded him little time for personal pursuits or endeavors, hence he had not found the time to tinker with his Alchemical creations for some time. However, that was changing today. As he carefully ground a Little Neppent flower into dust, he busied himself with the creation of a Health Potion. With luck this would be a better attempt then his last few tries. The only good thing about having been gone for so long was that it had given the smell time to fade.

That was... better. It probably wouldn't smell like poop in any case. But it still wasn't quite what he was hoping for. So he began grinding some more of the petals with a small smile. So far so good, he had succeeded in not stinking himself out of the workshop, so hopefully it could only continue to get better form here on out.

Taking a few of the Nepent Leaves he had on stock, Saix went to work carefully grinding them into a paste using his mortar and pestle, before setting up a few conspicuous tubes and glasses, heating liquids and other mad sciency looking things. Eyeing everything carefully, Saix poured the concoction together, watching it bubble for a moment, before sudden shrieking and flying off like a bottle rocket.

"I should have been a blacksmith..." He muttered as far overhead the concoction exploded like fireworks.

With his bottle rocket having exploded safely overhead, and with nobody in danger of burns, Saix contemplated fleeing the scene of the crime, before instead deciding to hurry and finish his crafting for the day. Repeating the process, he fervently hoped that this time he would succeed. Which of course meant that when the concoction detonated, it went off in the shop, blowing a nice hole in the ceiling and showing the Alchemist in roofing materials.

Relatively sure he was suffering from a concussion, Saix went about preparing his concoction one more time, wisely carrying it outside before making the final adjustments and mixing the chemicals together. The resulting fan of flame set half the surrounding shops on fire, and resulted in Saix fleeing from the scene of the crime before witnesses could identify him. local authorities are still baffled as to where the napalm like substance came from.

Zerva smiled ever so slightly while waiting for his existence to be accepted, soon he gave up though and turned on his heel, stepping out of the shop while only slightly singed, figuring maybe another alchemist would be interested in his request, and that the owner of this shop must have been busy with other orders or such.

Saix hadn't tried this in a while, but it was back to the world of Crafting. Mixing a few ingredients together, he waited a moment and stepped over to the nearby window, cautiously dropping the last piece into the test tube and bracing for an explosion. No explosion came, though the bubbling concoction rapidly melted it's way through the vial and began eating the side of his shop. Well, that was pretty much par for the course for the young Alchemist.

Working with a rather dusty looking old book, that Saix couldn't really figure out why it would be dusty or old aside from aschethic value; Saix decided he would attempt making one of the damage potions that were all the rage atm. Oh look at that, he made a pun. Happy with his punny moment, Saix tipped the last of the concotion together and waited for the explosion, fan of flame, cloud of stink, or whatever thing he would get to let him know he had failed.... But none of that happened, instead he looked at the red bottled liquid and read...
