[SP-F01] Science before science was invented <<Earning a Living: Alchemist>>

Recommended Posts

The girl dances in, a huge smile on her face. She had come here to start pulling her weight when it came to earning money. “Why of course ma’am, I’m here to be an alchemist.” She says, holding her hands behind her back in a way reminiscent of the girls from TV shows. Why else would I be in this stupid camping area? It’s not like I stumbled onto it. She tilts her head and pushes up her glasses, as the woman explains how alchemy is sciency and scary, when Suki cuts her off. “Science is my favorite. Stars and space, chemistry, or what you guys call alchemy, electricity. All the schools of science I excel in, even biology.” She winks, turning and walking away, “Just tell me what I need and I’ll find it.” Her Jacket hangs over her tank top, as she walks away into the woods.

In the woods she looks for a good place to rest and pulls out her dagger, starting to play with it. “This world can be interesting, if you don’t try and sneak up on a pretty little girl with a knife.” She smirks as another player walks into the clearing with the girl. The player was tall and Dark hair, in great shape and had a stupid grin on his face. His skin not pale but not tan, and his eyes a radiant blue. “Let me asure you, if I wanted you dead you would be.” He says in a condescending manner.

”Well why would you want such a beautiful pair of... eyes dead?” She asks with a tilt of the head as her hand tightens around the dagger. “You think a little lady like me could hurt a fly? You’re dead wrong.” She smirks and walks up to the man, no expression on her face. Compared to the playful child act from before, she might as well have been a new person altogether. Her hair moves up and so does she, as she looks up at the boy, climbing onto a log and looking him Square in the eyes. “I don’t think you know just who you’re messing with.” She pokes the man in the chest.

The man standing in front of the girl, still towering over her despite her being at least a foot off the ground smiles and laughs, breaking the tension. “You haven’t changed a bit since you joined Suki.” He says. She begins to feel uneasy. Had she met this man before? What was his name, and how did he know hers? I can kind of recognize the voice, but I can’t put my finger on it. She steps down, chuckling nervously and sheathing her dagger. “So who are you?” She asks, looking him up and down to see if she can figure it out. Nothing. She settles her eyes on his face once again, as he smirks and tilts his head.

”Oh, you don’t remember your old adventuring pal? I thought you were smarter. Here, maybe this will help.” A large two handed axe pops up as he holds it up in the air, and he sets it down upright. The long wooden shaft cut to no more than two feet meets a metal handle on one end and a huge axe head on the other. The axe head has carvings of wolves and spirits and bears, while the handle is simple and yet elegant. “So that’s what the almighty Roger looks like? Wow, I thought you’d be less... handsome.” She tilts her head and scans the ground quickly for any hint of a material, but comes up with nothing.

Her eyes flicker from the man to the woods behind him as she turns and walks away. Her eyes scan the forest floor walking towards the thicker part of the forest as she stops and grabs a flower on the ground. This looks like what could be used to make a good potion. She jumps up into the trees and begins climbing through them, knowing Roger hates doing that. “So, you gonna leave me alone again? Because that would be much appreciated.” her words cut the player like a knife as she jumped to the nearest branch. He did that last time, all to start up some bar with a friend. The bar is nice, but I preferred when we fought on the fields together. She stops, slipping one leg down and bending the other, twisting her body to press her back against the trunk.

I heard his bar sold some of the best drinks, but I’ve never been there to try them. Seeing as to how we used to be best friends, I think I owe it to the man to get a drink some time. She looks out into the world, watching the clouds, the grass. The trees blowing in the coded wind and the grass swaying on the ground. This really is an incredible world Kayaba, guess you did at least accomplish something. A smile forms, as her face falls towards the ground.

The man follows the girl from below, knowing something is bothering her as she hides in the trees. Her legs dangle down and she watches the world around her, when she sees him barely below her. “You know I’ve told you to go away, but you stay. Last time we spent time together a boy came and asked you for help.” She says to him, as she pulls her legs up, and then looks down at him. “Then you disappeared.” Her dagger is drawn and she drops down next to him. “Move or I’ll make you move.” She presses her dagger up against his chest.

”Sorry, I can’t do that.” He smiles at her and she scoffs. “That’s so Cheesy, of course you’d say that.” She drops her dagger and turns away, walking to a tree and leaning up against it. “So, what do you want?” She asks, callously. Her black knife slides into the sheathe and her hands come up and swing around.

”The guy who asked for my help that day, Brown hair, blue sweatshirt, he needs help.” He asks, keeping his cool. “For the same reason he asked for my help, he needs you. I’m not smart enough to help him here.” He begs. His hands come up and land on her head. “Besides, you’d like this kid, he’s a lot like you.” He chuckles. Her eyes scan up and down him, “Is he anything like you? Cause if so you’re wrong.”

The girl turns toward the man and tilts her head. “What if I don’t want to help a stupid boy?” She asks, sliding her hands in her pockets on her jacket. Her eyes follow the land around her as she looks on the ground for another plant. Her searches are unfruitful once again and she sighs turning to the tower of a man named Roger. “You know, you can help me.” She remarks, slightly agitated at this point.

Roger twists and walks to a tree leaning up against it like a mercenary outlaw in the old movies. “I reckon he’s at least 20 times your level.” The player remarks, opening his mouth to speak again. “Would you just consider helping him?” He asks kindly once more.

”I’ll help him, but only if he pays me.” She says, holding up her dagger and watching the man smile. “If he doesn’t I’m Getting a new best girlfriend.” She smiles at Roger again.

Was that all he wanted? Just someone to help out his friend? Because that’s a sad reason to sneak up on a girl in the woods. “So, is that it? Because if so, you should go ahead and move to your bar.” She looks down, kneeling and picking a plant up and putting it into her inventory. “I’m serious, you need to get out of here.” She sheathes her dagger and drops back, into a seated position and looks up towards the tall man in baskc attire, like an overconfident front liner. His charcoal shirt made the tan of his pants stick out among the trees and other vegetation. In comparison to Suki’s outfit, he looked like a bored boy who went out of style ten years ago. Her black tank top under a hunter green coat sat pretty over her red checkered skirt.

The tall man turns with a cocky smile on his face, the scruff on his chin making him look like the adult he was, and he opens his mouth in response to her question, “I know when I’m not welcome.” He slips out into the brush and darkness of the unexplored woods they found themselves in.

  • 1 month later...

What was she to do now that the tower of power was gone? Her eyes scan the field and find nothing as the time goes on, leaving her feeling empty. Well this is boring. He was the only person who knows how to have fun and I sent him on his way... whatever, I guess the game can be fun in of itself. She had a reason to be out in the woods at this time of day, and it was an obvious one as well. She was part of the Aincrad Trading Post, a guild for people who want to be the best merchants in the game. While Suki wanted to be an Alchemist, I’m sure either she misunderstood the tag line, or they wouldn’t mind. Either way, she was gonna be one of the top alchemists. Mortar and Pestle in hand, she could get to the top of the charts and maybe one day make potions for the frontlines. “Whatever, the frontlines wouldn’t appreciate such beauty and would go for someone whose prices might be lower.” Sliding her hands into her coat pockets, she leans against a tree and smiles. “Great, now I’m talking to myself.” She chuckles. It was an unusual thing to the girl, she never spoke to herself unless trying to figure something out, and even then, it was mumbling. So what was she thinking about? Who knows, best to just let it happen though.
