Alec awoke as he did every day since he'd found himself trapped within the Death Game that he now called his life. Sword Art Online. His eyes cracked open to the first of mornings rays of sunlight that was just creaping through the second floor window of his rented room in one of the numerous generic Inns that populated the Town of Beginnings. As he did every morning he rolled onto his side and sat up planting his bare feet on the cold wood floor. The same thought crept into his mind that burrowed its way in every morning. "If this was a video game why did he always wake up sore and stuff?"

Alec stood and spread his arms wide feeling a satisfying pop in his sternum as he rolled his shoulders forward feeling various pops till he clasped his hands in front of him and flexed his massive back and leaned forward feeling a variety of pops along his spine as he leaned forward and touched his toes. With that Alec raised his massive body till he stood and looked around his surroundings.

With Alec's daily routine of morning stretches out of the way he used his hand to swipe in a downward  motion in front of him to open his inventory screen as he did every morning and equipped his usual attire. Alec looked down to survey his bear skin wrap drapped over his massive shoulders and broad back. His huge muscled arms and mid section bare except for their blue woad tattoos. He was beginning to develope much to his chagrin a softness around his mid section and waist, due purely to his age. His usual tan colored breeches were equipped and he nodded approvingly as he gazed down to his well wore rich brown boots. Fully clothed he strode across his cramped room to the wooden door that lead to the hall outside his room. He reached out with his thickly muscled arm and and large hand to grasp the small metal handle of his door and pulled it open. Alec Frances both directions down the hall as he pulled his door open. Seeing no one outside his room or in the hallway Alec stepped out into the hallway and closed the door behind him.

Alec's boots made deep echoing thumps as he made his way down the tiny hallway. It occured to Alec that the game developers might not have put people of his stature into consideration when they designed some of the aspects of this game. The beds for one were a bit too small for him, this hallway for another was just a tad smaller than he would have preferred and many of the other amenities seemed designed for people at or belong 6 feet in height not to mention Alec's overly broad shoulders and expansive back. It all added up to Alec generally feeling cramped and squeezed most of the time. The one place Alec had discovered recently that he didn't feel cramped and in fact felt like he had an abundance of space was outside the walls of the Town. Outside the safe zone in the plains and forests of the First Floor Alec finally felt he had all the space he needed. Alec opened up his inventory and inspected the new items added yesterday from completing his first quest. He had 7 new potions, 5 of which were listed as Tier 1 Healing Potions the item description stated they would 40 Hit Points of damage to the user. Healing Potions were always useful he'd heard. He hadn't needed any yet but then again he hadn't gotten into any combat yet either. One if the other two Potions was listed as a Tier 1 Damage Potion the item description stated this potion would increase his damage output by one for an entire adventure "Very nice!" Alec thought "That could be really helpful!". The other Potion's was identified as a Tier 1 Over Health Potion the items description for this Potion said it would temporarily increase the Hit Points by 50 for an entire adventure. "That too could come in mighty handy!" Alec thought as he inspected the item. All in all it was a good haul he had gotten yesterday. He couldn't wait to see what today's quest entailed. "After a healthy breakfast." Alec thought as he exited the stairway and entered the common room of the Inn.

As Alec entered the Common Room he looked around as he did every morning when woke and walked downstairs. As every other morning he saw the same faces he always did and wondered again as he did every day if these people he was seeing in the Inn's common room were real people like him trapped with the game or if they were Non Player Characters. He still had trouble with some of numerous acronyms that were always getting thrown around. It seemed the Real players here (there were players like himself and then there were the Real players the Front Line fighters and professional gamers) who seemed to have a language all their own. It reminded him of a friend of his from work Steve. Steve had told Alec while on a break at work day about his days in the military. Steve had rattled and spouted off so many acronyms in his store Alec had been forced to stop him and have describe what he had been telling Alec. Steve had chuckled and apologized and explained that in the military they also had their own language that those outside the military found hard to understand and follow. It was just like that here in Sword Art Online. Alec routinely felt out of place and confused by the lingo and jargon thrown around. With a shrug and a shake of his head Alec made his way to a table and eased himself into a wooden chair that groaned with loud creak as his large frame came to rest. He ordered eggs over ease of course, a side of bacon, some toast and a cup of coffee then sat back to wait for it's arrival and to think about the open quest sitting in his quest log. He had to go back to the Blacksmith Lyle Tealeaf. He had visited him yesterday and given him the package from the Alchemist Zakariah. After he had done that Lyle had asked him to come back this morning for another quest.

Alec's breakfast arrived and Alec hungrily shoveled the food into his mouth with a fork. He took long slow drinks from his coffee savoring the rich bold flavor. That was one thing he had to tip his cap to the game developers about they had nailed the coffee! It was right up there as one of the best cups he'd ever had. But then again Alec mused "I guess it doesn't count. Seeing as I'm not actually having a cup of coffee or tasty the rich silky flavor. It's all just numbers flooding my brain. There is no coffee he thought sadly, there is no spoon." With that Alec finished his food and Rose from the table, his chair scratching against the hard wood floor as he pushed it back. As he strode towards the door a gave a nod of appreciation to the Innkeeper and stepped outside into the early morning hustle and bustle of Aincrad's First Floor main city the Town of Beginnings. As usual the streets were jammed with people walking in all directions. Alec stepped onto the walkway and joined the flow of pedestrians. He checked his map HUD and noted the location of the blue dot that marked Lyle Tealeaf and his Blacksmith shop. It was less than a mile from his present location. So Alec settled in and made his way with the flow of traffic's thinking about yesterday's quest and wondering what today's quest held in store for him. He had to admit to himself he was actually a little bit exited to find out. It had taken him so long to figure out how to accomplish the most basic if tasks here. But now that he had, he was one his way to reaching the Front Lines and doing his part to help clear this Death Game so he could once more hold his beloved wife again and see his wonderful son who he missed dearly.

Alec navigated the throng of people and eventually made his way to Lyle Tealeaf's Blacksmith shop. As he approached the shop Alec was greeted with the sonorous clang, clang, clang of a Blacksmith's hammer ringing as it rebounded off a super heated piece of metal. As Alec reached the open front of the shop he could see Lyle pounding away on an orange hot piece of metal. The air was noticably warm at least ten to fifteen degrees warmer than the outside ambient air. A soft sheen of sweat sprung out on Alec's exposed skin due to the scorching heat radiating from the forge. Upon entering the shop Alec cleared his throat "Hhhaaarrrrgghh." while Lyle was mud blow to draw attention to himself. After another hammer fall Lyle looked up from his piece of metal and upon noticing Alec standing there greeted him warmly with a smile "Well hello there my good man. Please browse my wares while I finish this piece and then we can discuss the task I need you to complete for me. If that's acceptable to you?" Lyle finished. Alec nodded his ascent and turned to browse the various weapons, armor and shields prominently displayed on the walls of Lyle Tealeaf's shop. He found many nice pieces but nothing that really jumped out at him. After perusing Lyle's wares Alec turned his attention back to Lyle and watched as the Blacksmith finished hammering in the metal and upon completion thrust the glow hot piece of metal into a bucket of water next to him. Resulting in a loud hhhiiiiisssss as the heated metal came into contact with the waters surface. With that Lyle turned away from his project and walked over to Alec with his hand extended.

"Greetings and welcome to my shop. I'm Lyle Tealeaf and this is my humble Blacksmiths shop. I really appreciate the package you brought me last night from Zakariah. I have been waiting for some time for those potions you brought me to arrive." Lyle began as he offered his hand to Alec for a handshake in welcome. His handshake was firm, his hands roughly calloused and his arms strong from long years swinging a hammer over the forge. His warm friendly nature instantly put Alec at ease.

Alec returned the warm smile and took Lyle's hand into his own and shook the Balcksmith's offered hand firmly. "Nice to meet you Mr Tealeaf my name is Alec and I believe last night you said you had a task for me to complete today?" Alec replied releasing Lyle's hand as he finished, looking Lyle in the eye. "I'd be more than happy to assist you in any way I may be able to." Alec stated frankly.

"Indeed I do Sir." Lyle responded meeting Alec's gaze and holding it with his own. "You see I am in the middle of a crafting project and it seems I foolishly run out of Tier 1 Materials for said project. Without these materials I am at an impasse and will not be able to continue, much less complete my crafting project without them. Also as I am very busy and very much back logged I can not spare the time personally to venture out of the Town to gather the Materials I need on my own. And that is where you come Mr Alec. I need you to go outside the Town of Beginnings into the plains to the North of the Town. There you will find a creature known as the Board Pup. They can be found milling about and grazing in the grasslands to the North of the Town. I need you find me three Boar Pup Tusks, which can be gathered off of the Boar Pups. I require three such tusks to complete my crafting project I am working on. When you have gathered three tusks return to me so that I can finish my project. Beware though for sometimes a group of Boar Pups may be guarded by a Matriarch Boar, a fierce and ferocious mother who will kill to defend her young." Lyle informed Alec

Alec took a moment to think on the information he had been given by Lyle. He needed to find Boar Pups and gather their tusks. That would most assuredly mean he would have to fight and kill them. Alec did not have a problem with physical violence. He went hunting every year with some friends and neighbors. And combat was a key element of Sword Art Online. Plus if Alec were to achieve his goal of reaching the Front Lines and helping to defeat floor bosses he would absolutely need to engage in combat. Thinking through all these things Alec nodded his ascent to Lyle Tealeaf and replied " So just so I make sure I understand you need me to head to the plains just North of the Town of Beginnings and hunt Boar Pups to gather Boar Pup Tusks from their bodies. You need me to gather three of these Boar Pup Tusks for your crafting project you're working on, but be careful of the Matriarch Boar who is the dangerous and viscous mother of the Boar Pups attacking any and all who approach her young." Alec repeated to ensure he understood Lyle completely.

"You have the right of it." replied Lyle Tealeaf to Alec's recap of what he had told him. I need those Boar Pup Tusks as soon as you can obtain them as my project is at a stand still until I have those tusks. If my project is delayed for more than a few days I fear I will have to scrap the entire project and start anew. I will be forced to throw away all I have done on the project so far and be forced to lose weeks worth of work and start all over from the beginning. It will cost me greatly and place me even further behind on my projects than I already am. I fear I am at a terrible back log as it is and if I am forced to scrap and restart this project I may not be able to recover. That is why this task is so important to me and just be completed as soon as physically possible. I am in fire straights and only you can help bail me out if the horrible predicament I currently find myself in." Lyle stated rather grimly as he looked to Alec for an answer. Would Alec help him out in his most desperate time of need or would he deny Lyle the help he so desperately needed?

Alec looked solumly at Lyle Tealeaf. How could he deny this hard working honest man the assistance he so desperately needed when it was completely and totally within his power to prevent this man from suffering? The answer was simple, the answer was right in front of him, the answer was unequivocal. He couldn't. It was antithesis to Alec's nature to withhold assistance he was able to provide. The answer was made for Alec before the question was asked. Alec would help Lyle Tealeaf. Alec would hunt these Boar Pups and gather their Tusks so that Lyle could complete his crafting project. There was no question to it. He would accept this quest and he would return with the oh so needed tusks for Lyle Tealeaf. Alec solemnly at Lyle Tealeaf and said in a professional tone "Mr Tealeaf I humbly accept your quest. I will find your Boat Pup Tusks and return them to you before night fall." With that Alec shook Lyle Tealeaf's hand and turned to the street and walked away.

Alec turned as he hit the street, looked over his shoulder and waved amenably at Lyle Tealeaf as turned down the street towards the route that would take him to the Northern Gate and the plains beyond where the Boar Pups were located. His HUD map showed a blue quest icon in the middle of the plains North of the Northern Gate. Alec assumed that to be the general area where the Boar Pups and their Boar Pup Tusks drops were to be found. As Alec strode down the roadway with a renewed sense of purpose as he made his way through the Town of Beginnings toward the Northern Gate and plains beyond. Alec double checked his inventory and considered which items to equip. He knew other Players walked around fully armed and armored at all times even when inside the safe zone. That didn't seem right to Alec. "Why walk around fully geared for battle while walking around an area where you couldn't be attacked or hurt?" Alec mused. It just didn't make sense to him. He decided that this time he'd just equip his new healing potions from his last quest along with his Battle Axe and Reinforced Heavy Iron Armor. That should do him well. The Boar Pups were listed as a low level mob with way lower hit points than he had. He should be good with the equipment set up he had chosen.

As Alec approached the Northern Gate he opened up his inventory with a quick downward swipe of the air in front of him. He scrolled through his inventory list and equipped his Battle Axe. Then he selected his Heavy Reinforced Iron Armor and chose to equip it. Finally he selected the stack of Tier 1 Healing Potions and assigned them to his Battle Ready items tab. There, all set. He had equipped himself for battle. With that he strode purposefully through the Northern Gate and began making his way towards the blue quest icon displayed on his HUD. Alec looked around as he walked enjoying the warm sun that shone down on him and warmed his exposed skin and outer metal of his Breastplate. The warm breeze that drifted through the air blew across his bald head and ruffled his beard. All in all the weather was extremely pleasant and brought a faint smile to his usual grim and scowling features.

Alec broke into an easy job to warm up his muscles in preparation for his up coming fight. His breathing was slow and steady his heart beat was strong and steady. He felt the blood pumping through his body and his muscles began to feel warm and strong. Alec usual grim mood began to lighten as his pace increased and his stride began to lengthen. Alec was by no means a distance runner he was built for power and feats of strength but occasionally he did enjoy a good run. Today was one such day. As Alec left the Northern Gate and giant wall which surrounded the Town of Beginnings behind the plains began to open up and the open plains began to become gentle rollers of slight hills and gentle valleys. Alec slowed his pace till he was at a stead walk. His breathing was deep and steady and he had developed a slight sheen of sweat over his entire body. He he crested the next rise he looked into to following valley and spotted three small creatures that resembled young board from home. These must be the Boar Pups he was looking for!

Alec crept to a stop at the top of the rise to observe the Boar Pups before he made any moves. They were small. About the size of a small to medium sized dog. With coarse hairs covering their backs and small tusks forming from the corners of their mouths. With age the board would increase in size and their tusks would become formidable weapons. The Boar Pups stood rooting in the dirt with their tusks and snouts searching for roots and insects to devour hungrily. When Alec felt he had their measure he readied himself talking a deep calming breath. When Alec felt he was ready he let out boisterous bellow of challenge and Dove into their midst swinging heavily at the first Boar Pup.

The boat Pup let out a squeal of pain as the Battle Axe opened a huge rent in its flesh and a massive explosion of red pixels was expelled from the Boar Pup.

The Boar Pup squealed in pain and lashed out blindly at the cause of it's pain. The first attack with it's tusks went wide and missed Alec completely. The second Boar Pup charged in and missed at goring Alec as well. The third Boar Pup ran forward throwing itself at Alec and connected with his Breastplate rattling him mildly and causing his health bar to dip one point

After successfully landing his first strike Alec was elated. This was going amazingly well. The thrill of battle filled him as his blood began to pump and his senses soared. His first strike had struck true and now he began to set his sights on the second Boar Pup in the group. Alec breathed deeply as he set his feet and adjusted his grip on his Battle Axe. He pulled his Battle Axe free of the first Boar Pups hide and brought it up over his right shoulder. He growled at the second Boar Pup as he dropped his hip to add more power to his strike and brought his Battle Axe down forcefully in a reverse strike across his body toward the second Boar Pup.

The third Boar Pup ran up and found a gap for its tiny tusk under Alec's armor and opened a small slice.

Alec growled at the second Boar Pup as he swung at it in a reverse strike. His footing wasn't sure and his balance was misplaced causing his attack to slice just above the back of the second Boar Pup. The Boar Pup squealed in reply and tripped over it's own hooves it's terror at the growling bellowing armored creature attacking it. Alec mentally berated himself for his over exuberance. He needed to stay calm and focus. He couldn't fight on pure impulse and emotion. He had to stay focused if he wanted to succeed. Alec took a deep calming breath to center himself. Planted his feet firmly on the ground and let out a low gutteral growl as he directed his focus on the third Boar Pup. Alec raised his Battle Axe above his right shoulder and brought his axe down forcefully in a basic standard cup he would use if splitting wood.

Alec let out a low gutteral growl as he brought his Battle Axe down on the back of the third Boar Pup forcefully. That was the trick keep his attack like chopping wood back home. The axe bit deep into the back of the Boar Pup opening a large rent in its flesh which expelled a huge spray of red pixels from the gash. The Boar Pup squealed in pain and anger and turned toward Alec thrusting it's tusks at Alec. The board small tusks grazed off Alec's armor but at the last second found purchase and dug a tiny rent into Alec's leg causing a small gash to open and small amount of red pixels to leak from the small cut in Alec's leg. The second Boar Pup dove in and jammed its tusk up under Alec's Breastplate and opened a small slice in his side. The las Boar Pup charged and dove for Alec but missed and landed beside him.

Alec successfully landed a deep cut in the third Boar Pup and was repaid with a small cut to his leg. Alec inhaled and exhaled to center himself for his next attack. Keep it simple Alec he thought they're small and low to the ground, just like rounds on the chopping block. Swing like you're splitting wood, raise it up and drive it straight down. Nothing fancy. With that Alec dug his feet into the ground to secure his footing, raised his Battle Axe above his head and drove it straight down toward the back of the first Boar Pup.

Alec's last strike caused the first Boar Pup to explode into a shower of red pixels that flew into the air and twinkled as they rained down before disapating into nothing. Alec felt he had the handle on how this combat worked now. He was used to using an axe for chopping wood so he needed to keep the swings like that. Raise the Battle Axe above his head then bring it down like would if he was splitting a round of wood on his chopping block at home. Alec breathed in and out again to center his focus. He brought the Battle Axe over his head and brought it down forcefully aiming for the back of the second Boar Pup.
