As Alec pried the gem stone from the wall and inspected it he began to hear a rumbling grating sound of stone grinding on stone. In response Alec shrugged off his shield and slipped it on and eased his axe from the ring on his hip. Both items ready and in hand he turned around to face what was causing the noise behind him. As he turned around Alec was forced to squint in shadowed darkness surrounding him in an effort to make out the dark hulking form blocking him inside the tunnel. The shadowed creature made a growling sound that resembled rocks being ground together and before Alec could respond the darkened creature swung a massive fist at Alec. Alec raised his shield in defense and brought his axe up to counter attack.

As Cave Guardian swung it's massive fist at Alec he was able to bring his shield up in just enough time to deflect the attack. The swing hit with such ferocious power it reverberated off the Shield causing a sound like a gong to echo throughout the tunnel. "Holy crap!" mumbled Alec "This must be what that potion was for. I better take it my next chance." Alec swung his Mithril Axe down and connected with the giant Shadow creature in its chest. It let out a roar like and avalanche as black pixels vented from the slash.

The Cave Guardian swung its massive fist st Alec but Alec was able to bring his shield up to deflect the blow. The fist connected with Alec's shield and rang off it with the sound of a gong echoing throughout the tunnel. Alec swung his axe at the Cave Guardian in return and dug it into the Cave Guardian's chest opening a slice that spilled dark pixels. The Cave Guardian drew both its fists over its head and brought them down in a double overhand smash. Alec had a split second to consider his options and took a chance summoning his Safeguard Potion to his hand and gulping it down as he braced for the eminent impact.

The Cave Guardian roared at Alec and brought both its massive fists over it's head as it started to swing them it caught the ceiling and tore a giant chunk of stalagmites from the roof that came crashing down on its head knocking it to the ground flat with a giant pile of rubble covering its body. There was a grinding as the rocks began to shift as the Cave Guardian growled and began pushing itself up. Alec took the moments respite to rip the stopper out of the potion bottle with his teeth and upend it into his mouth gulping it down and feeling a warm tingle spread through his body and down his limbs. As the effects of the potion took effect the Cave Guardian rose to its feet. It cocked back its massive fist and fired it forward at Alec like a rocket. Alec raised his shield in response and prepared his axe to swing.

The Cave Guardian roared at Alec as it raised both its fists to slam them into Alec. As it brought them down it caught the ceiling and pulled down a giant chunk of the roof on its head knocking it prone with the sheer amount of rubble. Alec took the offered opportunity to uncork and chug down the Safeguard Potion. As the potion took effect and Alec felt its protective tingle take hold the Cave Guardian rose from the pile of collapsed roof angrier than ever. It cocked its massive fist back like a boxer and rocketed it forward at Alec. Alec brought his shield up in response and braced himself for the massive power behind the punch while readying his axe and bringing it around in diagonal chop.

The Cave Guardian’s fist rocketed out at Alec but Alec was able to quickly snap his shield up to deflect the overpowering punch away from him and suffering no damage other than a sore arm and shoulder from the sheer force of the blow. Alec swung his Mithril Axe at a forty five degree angle but the Cave Guardian’s punch and the extreme force behind it threw Alec’s balance off and caused him to miss with his axe swing. The Cave Guardian drew its massive fist back pinwheeled its arm bringing it straight down from above. Alec moved his shield into a high guard to deflect the blow. Alec poised in his movements and summoned his inner strength and power activating a Sword Art. He drew the power into himself and let it build within his Mithril Axe. The axes mirrored surface began to thrum and glow a soft blue glow. As the intensity of the thrumming and glow intensified Alec focused with all his will on the Cave Guardian. When the vibration and glow had reached its crescendo Alec focused all his will on the Cave Guardian and swung his Mithril Axe at the Cave Guardian bellowing as he released the Sword Art Hack.

As Alec was about to unleash the power of his Sword Art into the Cave Guardian his focus and concentration faltered and the power summoned fizzled uselessly and his swing was for naught. The Cave Guardian stepped back and roared in frustration and anger at having been denied it's attack and Alec's return strike. The Cave Guardian drew back it's fist and sent a haymaker punch hurtling at Alec. The Cave Guardian pulled back its powerful fist after watching Alec stumble and bumble and trip around. It shot the massive slab of a fist forward again as Alec was trying to regain his balance. As Alec regained his composure and balance he glanced up just in time to see another mighty blow flying at him. He quickly snapped his shield in place to block the punch and raised his axe over his head to bring it down in a chopping wood fashion. That seemed to be Alec's best way of hitting. Alec made his way slowly and carefully down the corridor. He tentatively made step after step and inched his way down this latest unexplored tunnel. For the hundredth time since entering this cave Alec silently wished he had brought some sort of light source. It was dark here and he couldn't see. The only saving grace he could count was that the cave at least seemed to have a high enough ceiling that he hadn't hit his head yet. That was a God send in and if itself. Alec continued on making his way slowly when a thought came to him. He had heard that sometimes places like this held treasure chests and various other secret items. Sleeve wondered if this place did as well. "Well no harm looking." Alec thought to himself as he bent over and began searching around himself.

After some time Alec found his way back to the main tunnel. He again placed both his hands on either wall and slowly crept forward do so not to trip on anything that might have become dislodged from the walls or the ceiling since the last time he had passed through here. The way had been clear when he made his way down the tunnel the first time but who was to say something hadn't falling or been knocked loose or even placed here since his last trek down the tunnel. Sleeve continued for what felt like days until finally a pin prick of light appeared out of the darkness. Sleeve crept toward that smallest of lights grasping for it as a drowning man would a life preserver or parched man a source of water. Finally the light grew brighter and became an opening of sheer brilliant blinding radiance. Sleeve emerged from the cave and was forced to squeeze his eyes together from the pain of muted light here. Having gone from non to this hurt. Sleeve waited for several minutes. Slowly inching his eyes open till he could see again. Finally accustomed to the outside light of the forest Aleve began his voyage back to the Town of Beginnings and Hannah to complete his quest.

Alec made his way through the forest away from the cave he had just exited. The forest was again peaceful and tranquil. Alec looked around as he walked and appreciated the scenery and the general feel of the forest around him. The trees were very life like and real looking the smells were as close to accurate as Alec could guess at. The leaves rustled gently with the breeze that blew gently past Alec. It had a cool mossy smell with a underlying hint of sweetness to it. All in all it was a very pleasant day for a walk in the forest. Alec smiled inwardly to himself. Thinking of all the things he’d done in the last few days and how much progress he had made as well. It had taken him forever just to learn how to open his inventory, mush less how long it’d taken him to figure out to equip and unequip items, pull up his HUD and map display much less how to navigate by it and place markers and the like. He knew he was still new to this whole thing but at least he was no starting to feel more comfortable with it all. He would master this world and free himself and the others trapped here within. He would or he would die trying!!

Alec continued his walk and inner contemplation as he passed through the forest travelling in the general direction of the Northern Gate and the Town of Beginnings. He thought about home and his wife Gwen and his son Danny and how much he missed them and couldn’t wait to get home and see them both. They were his life and his heart and without them he felt empty and adrift. He would battle through any odds needed to beat this Death Game and return home to them. He had started that process now and was on the path to being with them again. Alec thought of his garbage route and his truck. He thought of Fourth of July and the fireworks displays, Christmas with his family and his old life in general. Alec was deep in thought as he passed through the forest on his way to the Town. Soon Alec exited from the trees and reentered the grasslands which covered the distance between the forest and the Town of Beginnings. Alec stopped as he broke free of the forest and stood surveying the scenery before him. His ruminations complete he gazed across the land before him his perpetual scowl reasserting itself on his face as he prepared to continue on.

Alec set out from the forest into the grasslands with a confident self assured stride he would battle his way over through or around any obstacles in his way till he helped beat this game and everyone trapped here could go home and be free. It was his purpose in life and his goal to protect as many people as he could and to help those who sought to defeat Sword Art Online. He walked through the waist high grass and spread his hands and fingers out to run them along the tops of the grass stalks as he passed through them the Northern Gate of the Town of Beginnings set firmly in his sight. He strode along and felt the hot sun beat down on him and warm his flesh after the time he had spent in the cold confines of the cave. The sun felt good beating down on him and a slight sheen of sweat soon covered his body after the coldness of the cave. Alec continued forward until he finally stood before the Northern Gate. He stayed outside for a moment and looked with unhappiness at the sheer number of people travelling the streets. For a short time he had forgotten about the cramped confines of the town and all its inhabitants.

Alec rolled his shoulders in preparation for the inevitable tightening he knew was about to come. It was always the same when he was inside the town and now that he had tasted the outside it was even worse. As Alec passed into the city he swiped to open his inventory and unequipped his Mithril Axe. Then he selected his Shield of the Thunderhearts and unequipped that as well. Finally he selected his Reinforced Heavy Iron Breastplate and unequipped that lastly. His bear skin wrap once again appearing over his shoulders he grasped it and readjusted it and strode purposefully into town his jaw clenching tighter as he entered the confusion and chaos of the pedestrians. His scowl firmly affixing itself on his face he strode through the crowd his usual minor bubble of space opening up around his larger than normal physical frame. People naturally gravitated away from him slightly due to his sheer size and mass. Alec walked on heading straight for the grove he had met Hannah in.

Alec finally arrived at the grove where he had met Hannah the Artisan. As he entered he could feel some of the tension caused by the crowds and sheer mass of people to slowly slip away. It didn’t recede completely like it did outside the town but a little bit of it slid of and he was able to relax a small amount. Alec looked around as he entered the grove and soon spotted Hannah. She was still perched on the grassy knob painting the same lizard she had been painting before. Alec sighed as again the reality of his realities unreality struck him again. Non of this was real. It was all programmed in and made up. He walked over to her and stood silently again as he watched her paint the same painting she had painted at their first meeting again. It was like experiencing deja vu. When she finninshed she looked up from her work at Alec and smiled.

“Alec, welcome back.” she greeted warmly. “Have you returned with a gem suitable for the ring I am crafting?” she asked. Alec opened up his inventory and selected the gem he had retrieved from the cave. The gem materialized in his hand and he presented it to her as an offering. “I found this gem in the cave.” he stated bluntly. “I hope it will suffice.” Hannah took the gem from Alec’s offered hand and brought it to her face to inspect it. After a few minutes she looked up from the gem and smiled at Alec. “This will do splendidly!” she reported happily. “Now if you’ll come with me I can create the ring I needed to make.” Alec silently followed Hannah to a nearby shop where she opened the door and ushered Alec inside. “Welcome to my shop.” she greeted warmly with a smile. “Follow me and we shall make a splendid ring with this gem and the band you brought me earlier from Lyle.” She lead Alec to the workspace of her shop where she began to combine items together as Alec watched.

After about a half an hour she finished and turned to Alec a gold banded ring in her had the lavender gem stone affixed to the ring. “Here.” Hannah offered Alec holding the ring out to him. “Hopefully this will help you in your future quests here in Aincrad. Alec reached out and took the ring from Hannah’s open hand and looked at it. The ring had an item tag labeling it a Ring of Accuracy with a + 1 Accuracy boost to the ring. Alec politely took the ring offered by Hannah and thanked her for the generous gift. Hannah smiled back as she looked at Alec and said “I only have on final task I need to ask of you. Please take this fishing pole to an old fisherman named Ol’ Pete who lives near a giant lake nearby. Ol’ Pete’s lake is to the North East of the Town of Beginnings in the chain of lakes North and East of the grasslands outside the city. Please give this him for me.” she finished with a smile. Alec took the wrapped fishing pole and thanked Hannah and assured her would deliver the fishing pole first thing in the morning. After that Alec wished Hannah a good and turned and exited her shop.

Alec left Hannah’s shop and scowled at all the people moving through the streets. They never always seemed to be here unless it was the middle of the night then the streets were empty but Alec had no desire to wait till well after night fall to travel back to his Inn and his tiny rented room there. Alec stepped out purposefully into the crowd of people and began to travel with the current back to his Inn. It took about a half an hour of walking to finally make it back to his Inn. When he got there he opened the main door which led to the common room. As he entered he paused to allow his eyes to adjust to the dimmer lighting inside the common room. When his eyes had adjusted he closed the door behind him and made his way to one of the empty tables. When he arrived at the table he pulled the chair out eliciting a noisy crape of wood on wood as he drug the chair out. He then lowered himself carefully down onto the chair. As he lowered his massive frame onto the chair the chair protested with a creak as he settled his frame on the wooden chair.

Shortly after seating himself the Innkeeper approached Alec and bid him a good evening. Alec returned the pleasantry and ordered some dinner. He asked for a steak rare with a baked potato. The Innkeeper asked if he would like anything to drink with his meal. Alec responded with a mug of ale and a glass of whiskey. The Innkeeper replied he would return shortly with his drinks and his food. Alec sat back and waited. Soon enough the Innkeeper returned with Alec’s beverages. Alec picked up his glass of whiskey and sipped it approvingly. After a short time the Innkeeper returned with Alec’s food and Alec picked up his utensils and ravenously tore into his meal taking swallows from his mug of ale as he ate. When he was finished he rose from his chair and made his way upstairs to his cramped rented room. Alec entered the room and prepared for another night of sleep which would leave him sore and cramped when he awoke in the morning.
