[F03 - SP] <<Training your Friend>> Trying to Figure Out Dahlia's Gift

Recommended Posts

The wasp was even more buzzingly angry at the attacks against it. Its eyes glowed red and its wings began to beat at twice speed, giving it a speedier attack advantage over Violet. The woman sensed this and grimaced, knowing the fight was about to get a bit more intense.

As quick as lightening, the wasp charged forwards and pierced through Violet's chest. The attack was too quick for Violet to even bring her arm up to partially block the attack. Her eyes went blank as she felt her heart stop. She fell to the ground, gasping for air. Then the game made her body regenerate. She could breathe once more. Coughing and now pissed, she charged her blade. "Bad. Move," was all she said as she dashed in jagged lines, keeping the enemy guessing for where she would appear next. Zoom! Suddenly she was above the giant wasp, coming down four separate times into its back.

The wasp tried to shake the woman off, but Violet had already leaped safely to the ground. Still wobbly from the pain, the giant wasp was a big target in the sky. Down on the ground, Violet attempted to throw her blade at the enemy, but it missed by a long shot. Crap. The wasp quickly realized that the woman was unarmed and charged at her once more with its butt spear. Violet quickly took cover in the thick brush surrounding the area where they were fighting. The giant wasp looked around, confused. Where had the woman gone?

Suddenly, Violet appeared on the opposite side of the wasp, her blade back in her hand. She had managed to quickly circle around and lose the wasp. A grin spread across her face. "I'm right here," she said cockily. The wasp quickly turned around, surprised. "That's right. I'm still smarter than you."

A low buzz emanated from where the wasp's proboscis was. It seemed to be saying, Don't laugh little woman. I will still murder you -- or something of the nefarious sort. Violet merely cocked her head at the odd noise. "Alright. Knock it off. Your stupid wasp sounds are giving me a headache," she growled as she rubbed her temple with her left hand. The wasp took this as an opening where the woman was letting her guard down. However, the loud buzzing of the wasp gave its movements away too quickly -- in fact as soon as it began moving closer. Violet easily dodged the large thing's stinger as it charged with its stinger-butt aimed down. "Too slow," she complained as she waited for the enemy to turn back around and face her.

After realizing that it had missed its intended target, the wasp quickly spun around and made an even louder buzzing noise. Violet had to cover her ears at this point as the loud cacophony was nearly as loud as the muffler of a revving motorcycle.

As Violet closed her eyes for a second and winced at the pain and ringing in her ears caused by the high pitched buzzing of the wasp, the monster saw its change. It quickly dashed forward and struck Violet in the middle of the chest with its stinger. The woman clutched at the hole in her armor as she was thrown back from the momentum of the attack. Looking down to assess the damage, she saw that the tip of the stinger had managed to enter into her skin, causing a slight opening where it had dug in. Luckily, it wasn't a life-threatening or over-powered attack, and the stinger didn't seem to have released any venom with this attack. Violet gave a sigh of relief as she knew the venom in these giant wasps could take down a large lion or giant snake -- more than enough to take out a small woman such as herself. She counted herself lucky and decided not to let herself be taken by surprise again.

Dahlia took a step toward's Violet, barring her teeth at the giant wasp in front of her. Violet noticed the movement and held her hand out to motion for the large leopard to step any far forward. She gave a lightly-pained smile as she assured her companion that she was alright. "It's alright, girl. I've had worse. Just stay right there so I can end this quickly." Her expression turned to one of pure focus as she switched to a defensive stance. She closely watched the wasp's every move at it buzzed left and right, trying to find an opening of attack. Every time it would try to launch an attack forward, Violet was prepared and merely parried the stinger with her blade. After a few tense minutes, the wasp put too much momentum into one of its deflected attacks and wavered in the air, its balance slightly off. The perfect opportunity for an attack. Violet quickly jumped behind the monster and drove her blade through its abdomen, feeling it penetrate deep into the organs of the beast.

The bleed effect of her weapon took effect immediately. The giant wasp twitched and cried out in ear-splitting, high-pitching buzzing. Violet winced but did not make the same mistake of bringing her hands up to her ears again. A few seconds of ringing was better than taking the chance of getting taken out by the wasp's final attack. There the two stayed, Violet's hand deep in its stomach, as the wasp's hit points rapidly fell to 0. A final shriek echoed among the branches of the jungle as the wasp's figure burst into pixels and a pile of loot appeared on the ground beneath where it had once been.

Violet felt herself let out a breath she didn't know she was holding and rest her hands on her hips for a few seconds, refocusing. Dahlia quickly trotted over and rubbed her cheek on the woman's leg. Violet looked down and smiled, reaching down to pet the beast with her left hand as she sheathed her weapon with her right.

"Alright, now let's get to that loot," Violet said as she picked up some col, materials, and a trinket.

Suddenly, Violet heard a blip sound and looked at the middle of her display. Above Dahlia's head appeared: "2/3 successful trainings completed to obtain novice level of familiar mastery skill -- accuracy."

"Huh, would you look at that," Violet muttered, her smile broadening. "Looks like that fight did both of us some good." She glanced down and saw that her leopard companion appeared to be making an attempt at imitating a grin as well -- or however close a leopard can get at achieving such a thing. Violet couldn't help but laugh, amused at the sight and joyful that the pair had nearly fully unlocked the skill of her companion. Violet put a hand under her chin and thought about what to do next. If fighting had worked twice at increasing the training for the familiar mastery, it made sense that the two should find another enemy to fight.

The small woman decided it was best to head deeper into the forest so that they could find some more enemies to loot and kill. She motioned for Dahlia to follow her as they tread deeper into the thick vines and trees. Hey -- if she was lucky --  maybe Violet could even find some amazing armor.

While walking through the thick jungle, Violet decided to look for a treasure chest she'd heard about that was located somewhere on the floor. She knew its general location was in the middle of the giant floor, so she headed North towards the middle of the map. After about an hour of so of walking, she reached an open field patch of dirt in the middle of the jungle where no trees grew. She had heard that this was where the treasure was located. It was rumored that somewhere in this empty patch of land there was buried a cursed chest. This curse prevented anything from growing around where the chest was buried. Of course, Violet had little belief in curses and the like, so she began to set to work immediately. After roughly another hour or so of searching to no avail, Violet finally gave up and settled back in to walking though the jungle, looking for powerful enough enemies to fight.

After about 15 minutes or so of walking, Violet heard a shriek of a dying animal and then heard a large crunch. Dahlia and Violet immediately crouched down, and Violet drew out her dagger, prepared to face an enemy that could jump out from anywhere at any moment. After a few seconds of waiting and listening to the continued crunching of bones, Violet decided that the pair were not in imminent danger and began to creep forward.

Peeking out from behind a thick grouping of vines and bushes, Violet spotted what appeared to be a large anaconda (similar to the one she faced when on her finding a familiar quest) coiled around what appeared to be the back half of a ram. The crushing sound was caused by the constriction of the anaconda's sides and internal structures as it swallowed the entire thing whole. While eating, the anaconda was known to be quite defenseless in the real world, so Violet decided to take a shot at this monstrosity while it was occupied.

The few bits of sunlight that managed to make its way through the thick canopy of the jungle glistened off the deep green scales of the anaconda. On the underside of its coils, Violet noticed the snack was a lighter green, nearly white color. It would be considered beautiful in a different setting where the snake was smaller, more docile, and where it was not eating an animal whole. Slowly, Violet crept up to the large snack. Once she was roughly 5 feet away, she dashed forward and used her sword art to dash in and thrust four times into the thick scales of the snake. The bleed enchantment on her dagger managed to activate as well, leaving the wounds gaping open as the young woman jumped back and out of the snake's reach.

Caught off guard with half its meal digested, the giant snake was left with no choice but to disgustingly regurgitate its meal to ready itself for battle. In a matter of seconds, the half digested body of the once whole ram lay to the side of the forest floor.

Now, Violet had seen some things in her day. But somehow, the image of the snake throwing back up its partially digested meal was enough to make her gag and look away. Her reaction allowed the snake an ample opening to come down and bite down on her left arm as the woman had turned away to hold her mouth and try not to look at the disgusting display in front of her.

As the snake's fangs entered and pierced through her left arm, Violet let out a scream of surprise and brought her right hand holding her dagger down onto the snake, stabbing it in the left eye and into its skull four more times. Luckily for the snake, its skull was too thick for the blade to pierce through. However, its eye was another matter.

The snake drew back its head and twisted around in confusion and agony as it felt the blood pour from its eye and still-open wounds. After a few moments, it realized that its left eye had been irreparably damaged, and it let a shaking hiss of anger and confusion.

The anger and frustration of the snake only quickened its movements -- making it nearly as fast (if not faster) than Violet. With lightening speed, the giant snake grabbed hold of Violet around her already injured arm and threw her into a the broad trunk of a tree a few feet away. With a loud thud, Violet's back hit the trunk, and she fell to the ground. At the last second, she managed to land and roll, mitigating the damage from the fall as well as allowing her to dodge another attempt at an attack by the large beast.

Rolling to her feet, Violet backed away slowly from the giant snake. Her left arm hang uselessly at her side, damaged from the two attacks. She grimaced as she felt pain shoot up the appendage. The game may have blocked most of the nerves, but some pain could still be felt.

With the state of her left arm being as it was, she took up a defensive position once more and waited for the beast to attack.

Even with one arm limp and unable to move, Violet was still a force to be reckoned with. Even while at a disadvantage, she was not to be taken lightly. In her real life, she had been in similar and worse situations to this and had still managed to escape -- even if some of those get-aways were by a narrow margin. Gritting her teeth, she ignored the pain as she focused on the target in front of her. The snake's slitted green eyes met her own, holding pure anger and animosity in their depths.

Once again, the snake jolted forward, aiming for the woman's head. However, at the last second, the snake dodged to the left and grabbed hold of Violet's left leg, trying to throw her off balance and slow her down. Violet didn't cry out this time as she slammed her blade into snake's left eye once more. This barrage of attacks seemed to be even more painful as the snake let the woman go quickly and backed away.

Violet had a twisted grin on her face. Twisted due to the dull ache she felt throughout the left side of her body. The attack on her left leg hadn't broken the bone, so she could still move without too much difficulty as long as she blocked out the pain. While the snake tossed its head, distracted by the piercing pain in its left eye, Violet dodged forward, running along the length of the beast's 10 foot body. She stabbed deeply into the sides of the beast, causing it to convulse and hiss out in pain. As Violet lept away from the thrashing of the angry snake, she barely managed to avoid getting slapped by its muscular tail. As she landed from her backwards jump, Violet cried out. She had landed on the injured leg, further worsening the wound by just a little bit. But the pain was still there, and she could no longer keep her mind off of the horrible sensation.

Breathing in deeply and trying to calm herself, Violet noticed the snake begin to ready itself for another attack. It appeared to have finally recovered from the shock of the previous attacks it had sustained. It's tongue flicking out from between its exposed fangs, the large beast began to circle around the woman, enclosing her between its body and beginning to close in. As its coils tightened, Violet gathered her strength and waited for the right moment. Right as the coils were about to touch her skin, she leaped into the air and out of the anaconda's grasp. Once she hit the ground, she was already mentally prepared for the pain. It only made her pause for a millisecond before she activated another sword art and dashed quickly around the beast's coils, stabbing into them repeatedly. The giant anaconda lashed out its tail, trying to strike the offending party, but Violet easily jumped over its tail as the beast's movements began to slow. This was due to the injuries the enemy had sustained. It's HP rested at a mere 2 points out of a total 100.

With one last flick of her wrist, Violet threw her blade at the forehead of the snake. It struck right in the middle, the enemy bursting into pixels and her dagger dropping to the floor along with the loot dropped by the beast. The battle finished and her adrenaline dying down, Violet collapsed to the floor, breathing heavily. Dahlia rushed over, licking the woman's wounds and mewling softly. Violet rested on the ground for a few moments, letting her wounds heal. The pain in her left arm still persisted as she lay there while the pain in her leg became a lesser burden. Dahlia lay down next to her partner, her head resting on the young woman's chest. Violet managed a pained smile as she felt the heavy head of her companion on top of her. She moved her right hand and began to pet the black leopard, and Dahlia began to purr.

While laying there with the leopard's head resting on her chest, Violet decided to check the quest progress and stats of her familiar. She brought up the quest window on her display. Hm, still at only 2 out of 3 trainings completed successfully, she thought to herself, frowning. It seemed that the last fight hadn't helped her companion's skills increase at all either. She sighed and laid her head back on her folded right arm after she closed all the extra display windows.

As she lay there, she closed her eyes and tried to move the muscles in her left arm. She was able to move a few digits, but that was about all the range of motion she had with the appendage. It seemed she would need to rest a bit longer for her arm to heal fully. This was fine with her as it gave her time to refresh her energy and rest her mind.

Violet's chest slowly rose and fell as her breathing slowed, her mind clearing as she fell slowly into the land of dreams.

In front of her stood a man with short white hair. His back was facing towards her, and he was wearing a black trench coat, black pants, and black sneakers. Violet squinted her eyes, trying to get a better look at the man, but the dream made her vision blurry around the edges. She tried to call out to the man, but her vocal chords didn't work. The man began to move forward, so she quickly followed after, keeping a safe distance.

As the man turned a corner into an alleyway, she heard screaming. It was her screaming. Her eyes grew wide as she remembered what was about to happen. Her heart raced as she rounded the corner after the man, but it skipped a beat as she saw the scene play out in front of her.

In front of her stood the man, his back still facing her. But in front of the man stood two thugs from a rival gang. They were standing in front another man that held a gun to a woman's head. The woman was struggling and cursing, but there was nothing she could do to get out of the man's hold. Without even seeing her face, Violet knew right away who the woman was. It was her. Her eyes grew wide, and she couldn't move. All she could do was watch.

The man's voice reached her ears in an echoed and distorted way. "Let her go!" he yelled, his voice and body language tense. "You want me. Not her."

An echoing, harsh laugh echoed in the alley. It came from the man with the gun who was holding the struggling woman. "Oh, Michael. Glad of you to come see us. We were waiting with you." He paused his speech as the woman's struggling grew stronger. "Stop it, you little ****," he said to her as struck her across the side of the face with his gun.

Michael drew in a breath as the man hit the woman. "Please, stop. Take me. Not her," he began to plead. His voice was strong, but Violet could hear the faint quivers of fear.

The mysterious man laughed again as his two thugs stepped forward in sync. "Ah, Michael. You were always a hard one to catch, but now I finally have you caught. You see, this little cat right here just couldn't resist the chase of one of my little mice." He laughed deeply, creepily. The "little cat" he was referring to was the woman her was holding. A younger Violet.

Violet felt tears roll down her cheeks as she saw the thugs attach the white-haired man. They came at him with crowbars, but he managed to dodge their attacks and fight back. After a few minutes of struggling, he had beaten them down so that they could not fight nor even pick themselves up.
