[F17][SP] Challenge of Olympus

Recommended Posts

A new mission, quest, task whatever you wanted to call it. This one was pretty simple for the most part. It consisted of her going around and impressing some godly NPCs to get some crafting item. It beat hunting eggs and you name it in addition to finding a friend. So she set off, not sure what she would find. She hoped it would be a fox that she could bond with as she searched endlessly for material to feed the money pit that was her life. A couple minutes later and she found her first thing of the day! It was an easy collection and then she could go around looking for more friendlies. She remembered that feathery creature from last time… She wondered if it was still okay or if it needed her love and attention again. But no, that wasn’t the main priority now. She just wanted to take things easy. She had a whole life ahead of her to be risky.

She made her way around and eventually she found a woman just standing out in the open. She wondered why in the world someone would be here, but she talked to her. She challenged her to do some kind of creation contest of some sort. She shrugged and guessed that she might s well learned how materials and such worked around here. She wasn’t all that good at anything really since she was just starting up her life and all that. But she decided that since there erally was no risk of hurting herself in this gauntlet she was signing up for that she might as well try to do something while she filled her time. There really was no risk in doing this right? She had to keep telling herself that as she accepted the woman’s challenge. She hoped that it wouldn’t take too much time or else she would have to concede.

She had gotten up very early that morning, to tell the truth he had just returned from his last mission which had taken her here. Most would have taken the opportunity to rest, yet she had decided that day to go and take up a new task. After a quick breakfast of white rice, eggs and a miso soup, she had left her shelter to go to this very place. She had tons of materials gathered and it was this early so no one else was around except this woman who just stood there and kept talking, detailing the challenge that she had in store for her. She didn’t know if she really wanted to take a challenge like this anymore. She just wanted to go out and gather some herbs n stuff, not get roped into this kind of thing. She really was a glutton for wasting her own time wasn’t she?

While waiting she took advantage of this moment of respite when there was little or no noise in the area. Apparently the woman wanted to see which one of htem could make the most of the herbs they could find in this area. That made sense to her because she was out here to gather anyways. She found a little bit of hemlock here and there and wondered what kind of concoction she could make out of this stuff. She immediately got to work, foraging around for more hemlock and then she tried to make something useful out of it. It didn’t do much of anything though while the person who challenged her immediately fashioned a nice looking decorative piece that would rival many people’s wildest dreams. Who was this lady!? So talented and such, making her jealous and feeling like she could never meet the lady’s expectations. Such was life.

She loved this time of day, a time when the fog still roams the streets of, where the only light is produced by the rising sun and not some street lamp which produces a harsh and artificial light. So she was deep in thought thinking about all that had happened between the time of her departure from her shelter and her return to the big grind of life. She had learned from members of this area that there was a lot of backstory to these lands. Not that it displeases her, but she would have preferred that this all be information she had been told from the start. She didn’t like being out of the loop. It was with this concern in mind that she continued to advance towards her goal of gathering more hemlock. She was here for that purpose only and to use that hemlock to impress this lady. Because she couldn’t be shown up by someone she just happened to find walking around out here near this mountain.

As she worked someone came along, talking with a friend of theirs. And here she was thining she was all alone and people were starting to show up. The day was progressing though and she couldn’t expect to be alone forever with this strange lady who knew how to twist herbs and such into strange concoctions that baffled her with every iteration. She just wanted to make something, just one gosh darned thing that outclassed the lady’s concoctions. If she could, then she could go home with some pride along with all the herbs she was gathering as they worked. Their conversation went something like “here is your task, Recently, a man seems to be subscribing to unhealthy pleasures, including murders and it is the populace of the small villages around the area who pays the costs. This must stop immediately.” Wow, that sounded pretty important. She was glad that it wasn’t her job to deal with that.

he tried not to pay attention to them as best as she could. She was busy over here, couldn’t they see? She was going from bush to bush, gathering every material she could get her hands on and they were just talking about some nonsense that had nothing to do with the task at hand. “The threat is internal and originated recently, since the people detected no unauthorized intrusion. The procedure is the same each time, a kind of ritual that a survivor will explain to you. He is the only one to have escaped death. Besides, you will have to protect him, only he knows what our man looks like. It is not a death sentence, but a war against a man, exterminate him.” She got chills just overhearing their conversation. Didn’t they know that they could go somewhere more private to talk about these weird kinds of things?

She gave them a glare to show that she was there and she was listening to their schemes. They looked worried, like they didn’t think anyone would be out here. That was just the thought she’d had when she had come out here a few hours ago. Agreeing with a simple gesture of the head she left the room to go to get ready. Half an hour later, he was ready to leave for his task when a voice heard behind him. “You just returned that you are leaving already?” “Yes,” replied the boy calmly, it is my duty to protect and fulfil the will of my leadership.” He sounded like a soldier which made absolutely no sense to her as she just walked around the bushes and picked up more stuff. She kept failing at making something spectacular. Maybe if she focused on making something beautiful it would work out because quality wise she wasn’t having the best luck.

She kept going around and she ended up busting her butt by falling down and injuring herself. The NPC came over quickly and used one of her concoctions to heal her. Hinata had been healed on many occasions but it often wasn’t by someone who just beat her. It was usually after returning from a nice long battle or tripping and falling down the stairs. So this was a nice change of pace. She couldn’t get into the habit of letting her opponents heal her though because that just wouldn’t make sense in a real combat environment. In any case she smiled at her healer and cocked her head to the side when he blushed. Aww, was she shy? She wondered what it must be like to be a heartless NPC and still be able to get the enjoyment of healing. “So you can heal, where’d you learn how to do that?” But she got no response from the nPC.

Hinatao listened as the NPC continued to heal and eventually repeated the challenge again. She only had so much time left to best her in a game of crafting so she skipped pleasantries and introductions. She seemed kind of rude though. She guessed that was what she got for taking on higher level quests. Higher level NPCs meant that they had screw you mentality and could get away with being rude in certain circumstances. “nice to meat you satyr, I hope that I’ll be able to satisfy your needs during our competition,” without realizing how that could be interpreted. She was just trying not to mess up and give a bad impression. So much for trying to be formal. She motioned for them to get on their way. They couldn’t stand there and be awkward all day. She hurried over and returned to getting herbs and ingreditins for her potion, hoping it would be good this time.

She would continue to jump from bush to bush in order to reach the place where the pickings were good was as quickly as possible. She had to arrive quickly in order to counter any attempt that the other lady had because she also went around and searched for herbs and such that could make her concoctions better than hers. That was the worst part about all this was that it felt like a game of chance. She furrowed her brow and glared at the woman who had challenged her. Even after all this time she didn’t show any signs of stopping. There was no way she was going to outlast her opponent in this unimportant game. But that was all fine. In the end she would be happy just gathering and taking that home. It wasn’t like her life depended on winning this little side challenge that popped up out of nowhere.

She continued to go around gathering and all that nonsense. It wasn’t like she needed to try that hard to get more materials because she had so much of them already. It was mostly to make sure that she didn’t end up losing any when one calculated how much she was spending on trying to make something better than this odd strange lady. It took time but finally she had something that could at least compare with the beautiful competitor. She still failed to impress, but it showed that she was getting better. She was improving? Yes, that was it. She had to be improving after all this trying. She hoped that her efforts would be directed against her opponents in the future. The small forest that surrounded the area was a place appreciated by people of all kinds, from the simple smuggler to the biggest honchos in the region

Honestly she didn’t even know what the goddess she was talking to was. She didn’t know anything except like the heads of the other big places around here. It wouldn’t ring any bells but the suffix to the title was enough to get her excited when the NPC finally introduced herself. “I didn’t know you were ‘that’ important” she told her, “what are you doing hanging around here for?” She couldn’t believe someone with that kind of title would be wandering around killing time like this. But then again he said she was just an NPC so she could take life easy. She wouldn’t notice, but maybe someone else would. Someone had been watching her do her crafting experimentagainst the satyr for quite some time. It was troubling but she didn’t know what else she could do. Hopefully it wasn’t someone nefarious that could come in and ruin her day. She was already having a rough one.

But she couldn’t just ignore that there were those two people discussing nefarious plans just next to her nom atter how hard she tried. She knew that he had to be careful. This is how he spotted the group of meanies who were preparing to ambush a young person, it didn't take more for the young woman, who jumped right in the middle of the bandits before exclaiming icily, “So, gentlemen, are we planning to attack someone” “who are you? If you do not silence yourself you will be skinned! She Roared as she spun and smacked one of them, a particularly ugly individual.” Mentally sighing, the girl pulled out her weapon to show that she would use force if she had to. Following this gesture she had left to cut into "the heart of the matter". She had just escalated this a little too rashly. Had she made a mistake?

She preferred to ignore the idiots to continue her way towards the lady who she was having a competition with which extended not far from there. A quarter of an hour after the competition which took place in the area the young lady finally arrived back at the desired location. She began to search for the person again and easily found her. The lady nodded before signaling to the girl to follow her to take her to her little area. Far from being the size of the estate she was used to, it was not just a simple hut, it was a modest house on two floors. There she continued to try to best the lady, putting all that violence from earlier aside. She hoped that it wouldn’t result in people coming after her because that kind of life really sucked. She sighed, not too desperate to win anymore. It was like it was ruined by those idiots from before.

But even in the safe confines of this little home fit for a goddess she couldn’t escape those bad people coming to bug her again. It was like they didn’t know how to be quiet and let people be. Of course, of course. The man who verbally attacked her and who was planning on commiting a bunch more harassment was none other than a pretty well known figure around here who also pretends to be a monk to draw in sympathy. At least that meant she wouldn;t have trouble recognizing him if he came to try again to bug her. Someone came to tell her, you’re expected to meet him in the big square in the center of the town,” as if she cared. She shook her head and said, “I’m busy with this bother me later.” She felt like she was close to achieving her side goal for today.

She finally ended up making something to impress the nice lady and she applauded her. That was all she really wanted, the dopamine rush of having bested someone. She got nothing as a reward for doing so, that she was immediately aware of. She just rushed out of there to go deal with this idiot who was challenging her for some reason. Frown she looked strangely at the famous bully, she had a doubt about this individual. Strangely she really didn’t feel this guy like she had something wrong. Look at him carefully, she immediately noticed what was wrong, this guy had a weapon in his pocket, she could tell. Smiling imperceptibly she invited the man to lead her to the main square. The latter therefore immediately took her to the square. Some street further she knew it was time for her to act, suddenly turning to the man, she punched him hard in the face

“Why’d you do that? I’m just the messenger!” A simple annoyed look from her answered him. Thus began a one-way fight, the man trying to defeat the girl with fisticuffs yet he could not touch her. Having had enough of avoiding kicks and punches, the young girl quickly kicked him straight in the stomach of the young man who was sent against a wall with a lucky hit. Watching the pathetic individual rise in front of him she then asked him, “can we just end this? I really did not have a duel in mind when I came out looking for hemlock and stuff today. Can’t we just put this behind us and let me go do my own thing?” Following these words the boy pulled out his weapon before rushing towards the girl by swinging down his weapon from top to bottom. Ah well, not all fights could be ended with words anyways.

Thus the girl saw appear on the handle of weapon that he had previously taken out, a magnificent blade composed exclusively of high value materials. She made a slight grimace before hoping to have finished the fight before being pulled further into it. Smiling, she immediately rushed at her adversary to strike him with a devastating blow and end things. The man then tried to block it with a forearm which did not resist the force which cut it before continuing its movement to finally collide with the bodies of the man. “You will have no more problems with this scoundrel. As you can see he is now beaten and broken” she said to everyone calmly. She had defeated the bully, something she could never have done without being trained a little the other day. She was happy and thankful that she was finally making some progress. It’d been real hard.

She was on the lookout for the slightest suspicious sign in this terrifying crowd that was advancing quickly and making a ruckus, ganging up on the bully. It was too dense. A direct assault would be suicide and in any case did not correspond to her habits. At first, it was better to try to make your way, in a second, to separate the enemy, then third, to isolate the target. This plan seemed convincing. Being new to the area she felt a sense of duty towards it, a promise bound her to this one and also to her friend. She thought of making a defense for the bully but it wasn’t her problem anymore. She was fine with others taking care of this. It wasn’t like she was getting paid to solve people’s problems. She ended the day on a high note, taking care to make sure that she had gathered enough to make the day worth it and also got paid as well.
