[OP-F7] Volcanic Glass

Recommended Posts

Angel walked around the 7th floor, looking for an access shaft to the magma chambers he had read about from his Info Broker. He was on the hunt for a special material he needed for an order. He walked around the base of one of the various mountain ranges, sword and shield ready in case he gets ambushed. He kept going until he saw it, a hole in the side of the mountain. A gust of warm air was coming out of it, confirming Angel's suspicion. He had found the entrance to the Magma Chambers. He was about to run in and get this over with, but he reconsidered. Instead, he sat on a nearby rock and put up a HELP WANTED poster on the Main Hub, where everyone could see it. Then he waited for someone to answer.

Ether was walking around, looking for very rare alchemical plants that only grew on fertile volcanic soil. "I've been searching for two hours! No Firegrass, no Magmaseeds." he shook his head in disgust. A message popped up on hid screen. 'HELP WANTED' he sent to dismiss it with a swipe of his hand. He stops as his eyes wandered to the name of his friend at the bottom. "Oh, it's Jace." he says, opening his map and checking the location of his friend. He set off to find his good friend.

Seldentar walks up, his red coat flowing in the breeze as he does. He has his blood sword strapped to his back as always, a grin on his face.

"You know Angel, this is how we met back on floor 2. You always seem to find yourself in over your head."

Seldentar has a playful tone in his voice as he talks to Angel.

Angel hears Seldentar's comment and looks over at him. "Well well well, if it isn't my old material hunting friend. Tell me Seld, how's life been treating you?" He asked, happy to see a familiar face join him. In a weird way, Seld was right. Angel seemed to dive head first into unknown danger; then again, that' how he rolled. He enjoyed the thrill of the fight and the opportunity to meet new people. As things were going so far, the second part would not be fulfilled. "Tell me you didn't come all this way just for little old me?" He said playfully.

"You know, you're probably right." He told Seld with a mischievous grin. Seldentar knew what he was talking about when he said Angel would more than likely be his own demise. But he couldn't change that, no one could. But thinking about this made Angel smile. It was interesting to talk about how he would die. Then he heard the noise from behind a rock and looked over. "Ethereal?" He asked with a raised eyebrow. "If you want, the more the merrier dude. Let's go, if everyone's ready that is." He said, the same grin still on his face.

Seldentar follows Angel, wondering what crazy adventure was in store from them this time. Last time had ended with an interesting few item drops, the crystal shard had become a very powerful perfect craft item, so he was excited to see what would happen this time around.

"I'm not gonna lie to you two, it's gonna be a long walk. The lava is deep beneath the surface. Luckily, if my calculations are correct, there should be an amble supply of the glass just waiting to be picked. The only problem I see is the monster's we'll be facing will be rock or fire based. That's a pretty dangerous combo." He said as he held up a torch to light there way in the dark tunnel. Unlike the other caves or tunnels he had been in, this one wasn't lit with some sort of crystal or gems formation. It was just pitch black. Angel looked back at Ethereal. "It's been a while since we last met, hasn't it Ethereal?"

Seldentar looks over as Angel talks

"By volcanic glass, I assume you are referring to Obsidian. It can be sharpened to a razor edge, and, despite its appearance, is not actually stone but glass. Still, it has been used to create very dangerous weapons in the real world."

Angel shrugs, ducking under a low rock formation. "Call it what you will, I need it for an order. And I'm not leaving without it." He continued forward, all the while the tunnel continued to get hotter and hotter. The heat didn't bother Angel as much because he was used to desert environments. Then again, this wasn't a desert. Beads of sweat started forming on his forehead when they came across a crossroads. The tunnel split into 3 separate parts, each one looking the same in design and size. "Well this is just great. Which one do we take?" He asked himself, although it sounded like a question for the group.

Seldentar looks down each of the three paths. If they were looking for obsidian, they needed to find a place were magma reached the surface at one point. He shakes his head.

"Theres no way to know for sure which way to go right now. Our best bet is to pick one, and tread carefully."

"I second that, it's all chance." he agrees. He breaks off a stalagmite and spins it on the floor. It stops pointing at the right cave. "So chance has decided we go right." he says, stepping towards the right cave.

Angel shrugged and moved to the right tunnel. "Can't argue with logic like that." The torch cast a wide range of light as they maneuvered their way down the narrow tunnel. It seemed to be smaller than the first one but it was just as hot. After a few dozen yards, they rounded a corner and saw something. It was a red glow at the end of a straight away. The glow seemed to move, like it was in a liquid form. Angel proceeded with caution, drawing his sword and switching the torch over to his shield hand. When he reached the end, he managed a small smile. Resting before him was a large magma chamber. It was the size of a football field in both length and height. Various pillars extended to the roof, holding up the chamber along with various stalagmites and stalactites. Rivers of lava flowed along the floor, lighting up the room in a red glow. Various rock formations and precious metals lined both the walls and littered the floor. No movement was seen that would resemble a monster. Never the less, Angel proceeded with caution.

Seldentar followed cautiously. He had no desire to die in a lava or magma related incident, so he carefully watched where he stepped. As a smith, the metal ore in the walls intrigued him, but without proper tools to remove it, he would be banging his head against a wall.

Ether looked around and mentally shook his head. He was an alchemist interested in plants and mosses. This far down there was no sunlight for the plants, and it was too hot for any regular mosses. He had heard of <> being found rarely in environments like this but very rarely. He followed Angel deeper into the cavernous abyss.

Angel maneuvered his way through the flaming environment, careful to stay away from any open pools of lava. His eyes scanned the area for anything resembling obsidian. The black glass-like rock seemed to be scarce as he found other metals and gems. His eyes glimmered thinking about what he could do with all these materials. "Oh boy, if only I could carry all this. I'd be set for life." He said aloud as he walked past a massive pile of what appeared to be emeralds. He looked around and until something caught his eye. It a light glimmering off something. When he walked closer, there it was. A small pile of obsidian was sitting on the ground. Angel knelt down next to the rock and looked it over. "Anyone got any idea how to get this stuff out of here?" He asked, not aware of the danger sneaking up on them.
