[SHOP-F1] The Garden of Art (somewhat-closed)

Recommended Posts

LindblumWeaponShopReconstruction.png

A quaint building stands on the street separating the Town of Beginning's marketplace and central plaza. It is comfortable to look at, and the walls are made of pastel colored stones. On the inside, a curtain separates the Artisan's workshop, which takes up the majority of the two floors of the building, from the guest room outside. Above the door to the shop, a hanging wooden sign says, "Garden of Art."

Inside sits an Elyth. On the counter lies a single order form, hurriedly drafted.

Elyth takes one of the golden ores she had gotten from her Master and puts it into the smelting flame. She intends to create a simple necklace, but such a thing is never as simple as it looks.

She first smelts the ore until it is a pure metal, and then hammers it into a thin wire. She then makes it even thinner, and snaps little equal sections of the wire apart. These sections are then folded into chains, which Elyth chains up and connects. For a first work, it doesn't come out as she hoped, but rather as what she expected.

Elyth is mildly disappointed by her failure, but takes another ore to craft a circlet. This time, she molds the metal into a thick wire and, just for flair, hammers out the very center to carve a symbol of the moon into the circlet. It is, as of now, incomplete without a gem in center- a sapphire will do?- and Elyth leaves it aside for after she finds or gets a gem to place in its center.

Elyth leaves the shop, closing the not-very-secure door behind her, to find some gems to use in her jewelry.

The circlet comes out as a rare item, and although Elyth isn't sure where to put it, she smiles to herself, pleased with this achievement.

Elyth decided to make another circlet, because the previous one actually turned out quite well. It was the same process as before, smelting the iron and straightening it, before curling the soft malleable metal into the shape of a circular headpiece, and adding a small circle shape to either end, and a simplistic decoration in the center, depicting several spirals and a leaf-like socket for preferably a green gem.

Once again, she didn't have a green gem, but this particular craft...

Another failure, Elyth notices, and takes a brief break. She plans to make four crafts before finding materials to replenish said failures, and maybe she can get an item to boost her crafting skill. That reminded her, she didn't want any customers while she sucked so badly at this crafting thing.

Elyth walked out into the street and pasted a slip of paper labeled, "CLOSED" on the door, just as a precaution. Perhaps she'd open the store when her success rate went up.

Elyth came back into the shop, and took another ore, this time intending to make a simple necklace with string. All she really needed to craft was the decoration that would hang from the string, which in this case was going to be a simple wooden charm, an oval smooth piece of wood, on which Elyth attempted to carve a symbol of a tree.

To carve such a picture, Elyth took a pencil and drew a symbol of a tree, like such:

tree_of_life-300x300.jpg

She then found a very small knife, and began to carve along the wood, gently scraping only the topmost layer of wood, and following the flow of the wood.

Elyth successfully carved an adequate image of a tree onto the small piece of wood, and bored a tiny hole through the center, which she then slipped through a small circular wooden link, which a piece of red silky string then went through. The end result looked something like this: IMAGE

"I think I'll call it... the Dryad's Pendant #1," Elyth said, laughing to herself ever so slightly.

"Hmm," Elyth mused, taking yet another piece of ore and trying her best to not cry when she realized that she should actually read up on how to make wire from... ore. Elyth would have to visit... the Crafting Guild! Dun dun DUN!

But in the meantime, she took a piece of wood, the leftovers from the necklace from earlier, and carved it into a large circular plate. Elyth then took her Artisan's knife and carved a picture of a flower, except the flower really didn't look like a flower, and so Elyth knew even before it was over and done that this was a horrible piece of work.

As for the plate, it looked like this:

fig068.jpg

A sign popped up before Elyth indicating that it was a bad item, and Elyth put the piece of work in a bin with the words "Bad Item" on it. So far, she had two of these.

Before going to the crafting guild, Elyth was going to attempt another few crafts.

She took a piece of cypress wood and carved it in the shape of a sphere, and, following the book she had borrowed from Nim's library, carved out a hole in the bottom. She took the knife and carved out a small circular cavern inside the wood, and began the inscribing of several intricate loops around the outer sides of the sphere. When she finished, she slid the Special Sphere inside the hole, and used a leftover piece of gold ore to seal up the bottom.

The sphere began to glow, and a button materialized from the top, and the intricate designs began growing, expanding from the sphere's sides to even the bottom, and all in all it looked very picturesque.

"Identify!"

Item: Mirage Sphere
Quality: Common
Shop: Garden of Art
Description: [As described by this: Here]
The Mirage Sphere is a sphere-shape yellow device with an intricate design on its sides and a shining crystal ball inside.

The Mirage Sphere is activated by clicking on a button at the top of the sphere and selecting the desired location via a pop-up menu. When activated, the sphere splits into two, with the top half rising and leaving behind a column of light. Once the top part of the sphere stops rising, five panels open up from the sides of the top of the sphere and the column of light is then changed into a sphere, forming a holographic map.

Although a simple 2D map can be called out from the player's menu, the Mirage Sphere portrays the map features, like trees, in 3D and great detail.

Elyth wanted to make something capable of improving her success rates, but didn't know what would help, and thus took up again the cypress wood and began to carve away at its surface.

She stuck her knife in the wood and began to carve out the semblances of a couple of flowers. Uh, well, at least they looked like flowers in Elyth's mind, until she actually carved them out. Then they looked like badly shaped circles, which prompted Elyth to go outside for a walk.

When she came back, Elyth placed the failure in a bin for failed items. There they would stay... until Elyth burned them up for firewood or something.

Elyth took a piece of leather and began cutting it into equal strips, which she then braided (arduously) and attached to a gold clasp, premade. It was a lovely white bracelet made of leather with a golden clasp. Unfortunately, it didn't have any sort of effect, but that was alright, Elyth supposed.

Elyth sharpened her knife and took a piece of cypress wood, before carving it into the wooden shape of the knife that she had on her at the moment.

"I sincerely hope that this piece of art will improve all my other crafts..." Elyth murmured softly, as if praying to whatever Artisan gods were out there. This piece of art was going to stay in the shop and watch over Elyth's crafting...

"Done!"

Elyth began cataloging her crafts.

There were the bad items, two of which she was going to scrap, or at least try to, and two good crafts, the White Leather Band and the Mirage Sphere, two uncommon crafts, the Dryad's Pendant #1 and the Wooden Knife Sculpture, and one rare craft, the Wind's Whisper.

She had received a PM from a friend for the making of the Mirage Sphere, and so she took a paper bag and put the Mirage Sphere inside, sealing the top with by rolling the paper, and grabbed a marker. She wrote:

For: Miaki

Contents: 1 Mirage Sphere

From: Elyth

Elyth began to work at the golden ore again. She melted it until it was a malleable substance in her furnace, and took it out, hurriedly molding it iinto a circular shape. She intended to make this a hairpiece of some sort, thought she didn't know exactly what.

"Done... Hold on, Perfect Item? What?" Elyth exclaimed, nearly falling to the floor in surprise. So this was what getting a perfect for the first time felt like!

Diety, I'm all rainbows now, thank you so much, She thought, and said, "Identify!"

But first, a picture of a rainbow:

Hurriedly, Elyth took another silver ore and put it in the furnace. She was going to try crafting a ring now. Hopefully it would have some enchantment, though she'd be satisfied with just a good item.

Elyth took the silver out and carefully molded it into the shape of a circle, making one side more intricate than the other, and began to cut the sapphire into a circular gem, which she then put into a slot she had made for the jewel.

It didn't really work, so Elyth took the sapphire out before more damage could come to it.

Elyth took a nap before waking up to the sound of the NPCs of the Town of Beginnings. Oh yes, she was trying to make a sapphire ring yesterday. She went up to the book she had borrowed from Nim's library, and inspected the designs of rings in the book. The following were particularly appealing, but Elyth wasn't sure which she should make:

Design 1

Design 2

Design 3

Design 4

Design 5

Well this ring was for Miaki, who was going to use it to propose [Wedding = Food = Food = YAY!], so he should be the one to decide. Elyth decided to PM him while she worked on other crafts.

Elyth reached for one of her silver ores, which were dwindling in number. Soon she would have to get some more... What a pain. She melted it in the stone furnace, and decided to wait for the process to be over with. But alas, she had left the ore there for too long. This could not be called a passing craft anymore!

So Elyth let the ore dry and then tried to get it out of the furnace, before dumping it in a container with all the other "bad" metal Artisan Crafts she had gotten.

Elyth was running out of materials, so she decided to stop momentarily for the day, at least until she was able to get some more. Perhaps she could go on yet another adventure, but that would mean almost abandoning today's remaining craft. Yet, her luck was pretty horrible today, so Elyth decided to go to the Crafting Guild (or was it Crafter's Guild?) today.

Her to-do list was as follows:

>Find how to make wires

>Get an Artisan's Knife

>Get an Artisan's Hammer

>Find information on other Artisan tools

Elyth left the shop, and put Miaki's bag on the counter in the spot most visible by the door. On the paper by the door, she wrote,

"Miaki, pick up your stuff"
