[PP-F1] <<Worn Out Welcome>> Quest

Recommended Posts

Walking out of the safe zone of the Town of Beginnings once again, Kal would deviate from his normal path that he'd take for training, instead venturing in a vague north-easterly direction. Earlier in the day, he had found his way to Floor 3, which contained a shopkeeper/questgiver NPC and his wife, who had told him that they would forge a set of armor for any who could bring them materials, and directed him to a cave in the north-eastern quarter of floor 1, which was said to hold the walking skeletons of some forgotten empire's soldiers. Now, a few hundred feet from the cave, Kal was momentarily startled to hear a dry clicking sound behind him. Turning, he would see a pair of skeleton soldiers, one slightly thinner and shorter than the other, though both armed with battered helmets and rusted sword. Drawing his sword, he'd lunge towards the forward of the pair. Swiftly running his blade through the ribcage of the weaker one did nothing, though his sudden tear upward made the creature fall into a pile of bones at his feet, before shattering into crystalline shards. Swiftly closing the pop-up telling him of his reward, he'd start lining up his attack for the next undead monstrosity.

Recoiling slightly from the slash across his forearm, Kal would lunge forward towards the skeleton which delivered it. Letting out a scream of defiance, his sword would glow a bright green, almost too bright to look at, before severing the skeleton's head from it's vertebrae. As the rest of it's body would fall to the ground, the skull would spin up in the air, jaw still working. As it comes down, Kal would swing his sword, impacting the skull with the flat of his blade, using it like a makeshift baseball bat. As he would watch the skull fly, he'd softly mutter to himself "And it's going... and it's going..." and, as the skull shattered into crystalline shards, he'd shout out "And it's gone!" Chuckling slightly, he'd sheath his sword over his back and walk further in towards the cave.

While walking, Kal stared up at the sky for a moment, and suddenly dreaded the thought of spending however much time was needed inside of a cave, out of the beautiful weather of Aincrad. Looking around to be sure he was alone, he plopped down on the ground and stared up at the sky for a few minutes.

Finally, getting up from his short rest, Kal would continue walking towards the cave. What felt like hours later, he would finally see the gentle rise in the terrain forming into a rocky outcropping and, as he neared, he began to notice the crumbled remains of a long-forgotten tomb. Staring into the inky blackness of the cave, he would take a torch from a nearby sconce on the front of the cave, and proceed to walk in slowly.

As he continued to walk, Kal would grow more and more uneasy from the lack of any movement. As he walked, his footsteps would seem to grow louder in his ears, until each step became almost deafening. However, in one instant, he suddenly stopped and stared at the sight before him. Two skeletons, each of them with almost twice as much health as the ones outside, viciously butchering a low-level. As he watched, the skeletons, each only undamaged by the panicked swings of the newbie, would finish off the poor guy. Cringing, he would draw his sword and charge towards the one nearest him. As he lunged, his only thought was "Kayaba, you bastard... now there's one less of us..."

Targeting the nearest of the skeletons, Kal would deliver a slash that, had it been delivered to one of the skeletons outside would have killed it, merely left a bright red slash along one of the skeletal ribs. As he delivers the slash, he pauses a fraction of a second to allow his <> skill to take effect.

The two skeletons, annoyed by the newest intruder of their final not-quite-resting place, turned to face Kal. As the one was delivered a sharp slash to the ribs, both raised their blades in preparation, with both blades meeting their target.

Momentarily stunned by the two skeleton's strikes, he would again charge towards the already damaged one. Once again, he would deliver a sharp blow to its ribs that would have slaughtered a lesser skeleton, but left this one intact.

The two skeletons, once again sychronizing their strikes, would swing towards the intruder to their lair. However, this time, their blows would miss, instead clanging off the stone floor of the tomb.

Kalthios, breathing slightly harder now due to his near brush with injury a moment ago, would lunge towards the skeleton nearer to the end of it's un-life. His blade, flickering a light green at the tip, would pierce the skull of the skeleton, causing it to shatter into a million crystalline shards. As the light of its death faded, a pop-up would appear before Kalthios, notifying him of his reward. However, he would close it, in favor of finishing off the undead creatures ally.

The remaining skeleton, not deterred in the slightest by the re-death of its companion, would instead lunge toward Kalthios, though the intruders blade would knock away the blow before it even got near.

Kal, emboldened by his previous victory over the other skeleton, would lunge towards the remaining one with a grin on his face. "Hey, bud, eat a burger, would ya? You're looking a little BONY!" As the final word of his terrible pun would leave his mouth, Kal would slash at the Skeleton's ribcage, causing several ribs to fall off, though not re-killing the walking skeleton.

The remaining skeletal warrior, as though emboldened by its nearness to re-death, would lunge towards Kalthios as he recovered from his last swing. The tip of the warriors blade, rusted as it may be, was enough to deal intense amounts of damage to Kalthios.

Momentarily stunned by the ferocity of the skeleton's strike, Kal would lunge towards the skeleton. His blade once again shining a brilliant green, he would let out a shout of rage, pain, and defiance, and jam the tip of his blade under the base of the skeletons skull, then up and through it, causing the tip to smash through the fragile barrier of the skull. As though on cue, the skeleton would drop to the ground, leaving a pile of crystalline shards in its wake.

While never very religious, Kal walked over to the spot where the newbie had been butchered. Kneeling, Kal would mutter a faint prayer, before standing to his feet and walking back towards the entrance of the cave. Once again being creeped out by the lack of movement, Kal would continue looking around nervously until he found the entrance to the cave, and climbed back out into the sunlight. As he discarded his torch, he would look towards the brilliant sun, and begin his walk back towards the Town of Beginnings.

As he walks, Kal notices a small boar sniffing its way around a bush, before it notices him. The boar would charge at him, only to be met by a swordsman with a drawn blade. As the boar charges, Kal would suddenly draw his blade and deliver a sharp stab between its eyes. As the boar dies, he feels slightly rejuvenated by his <> skill taking effect.

Continuing his walk back to the city, Kal would be nearly there, even able to see the tall, gleaming walls of the city. However, he hears behind him a trio of growls. Turning, he notices three Dire Wolves glaring at him. Drawing his sword, he would yell at them before charging, "I really don't have time for this!" As he charges, his sword erupts in brilliantly green light, before piercing the body of the lead wolf. As it dies, Kal feels slightly invigorated from his <> coming into effect.

The remaining two wolves, slightly discouraged by the death of their leader, would split up and charge towards Kalthios. As they both crossed in front of him, they left small scratches in his skin, dropping his health slightly.

Chuckling lightly at the wolves tactics, Kal would pivot towards the nearer of the wolves. Charging towards it, Kal's blade would once again erupt in blinding green light, going clean through the wolf, causing it the dissolve into shards immediately. As he comes to a stop, Kal would take a moment to allow his <> to once again heal him of his wounds, this time completely.

The remaining wolf, now very skittish due to the deaths of its brothers, would launch a half-hearted attack against Kal. The attack, true to its nature, wouldn't even make contact with the swordsmans skin, and instead glance off his armor.
