[OP-F1] A New World

Recommended Posts

The player Garou stood still in silence some time after Kayaba made his revelation of Sword Art Online's true nature, smoothing out his purple hair in anxiety. He was shocked by the fact that he couldn't log out and had his life at risk, but not scared. Garou looked for an opportunity like this all his life. If he couldn't feel the excitement of fighting monsters to the death, what was the point of living? Truly, the boy was simply surprised.

He reached behind his back and felt his starting, two-handed longsword and slowly began to smile a little. It was his destiny, to fight in a fantasy world. Garou began to chuckle as he began walking around the Starting City, eying the other players happily. He suddenly stopped when he realized most were still freaking out about the death penalty in SAO. Garou's face fell as he frowned, ashamed for being visibly joyful as other people (some children even younger than him) were surely going to die.

Uso-Jun had been teleported in the middle of his training session against some boar in the fields outside Starting City. He held the spear like a staff to his right side as he settled himself onto the level footing of the plaza. He was surprised by the sudden change of surroundings around him but also intrigued by the constant stream of teleports into the plaza, something momentous was about to occur, he cold feel it in his digital bones.

As Kayaba Akihiko spoke Uso-Jun was quite skeptical of his words, and immediately checked for his logout button only to find the empty button slot like everyone else. The excitement for this announcement was brought was washed away in the deluge of fear as the true aspect of the game was brought to light. His body shivered softly as evidence floated around the plaza, what was supposed to be a simple challenge made by his friend had become a trial, a trial of survival.

He franticly scrolled through his character menus to get to his inventory, and removed the mirror, he stared deeply into it's reflective surface and was soon enveloped in the blue light. Once the central plaza's illumination dwindled he continued to stare back into the mirror, only to no longer see the face of the character model he had made but his own. This didn't have much of an effect on him as he had only made his own model a more masculine version of himself but to see the variety of people around him so completely altered was concerning for him. the distraught upon the faces of the other players and his own restless fears and emotions bubbling within him he threw the mirror towards Kayaba in defiance. This throw was futile and the mirror continued to follow it's high and thin arc and crash into the ground shattering moments before the rest.

He raised his spear and pointed it towards Kayaba as he disappeared shouting, "Is that a challenge!?" but their was no joy in this question just rage; rage, hatred, and fear.

Garou raised his head as he heard the rebellious yelling in the crowd. He could make out Noboru Juba some distance away. He was surprised to see the young man there; his parents had played pool with him several times, but the last thing expected for Uso-Jun to play a VRMMORPG. Garou shook his head to check if it were an illusion, but the man still stood there, pointing his spear to the sky like a bloody idiot. The purple-hair boy sighed. It was best not to approach the man he knew, fearing that his intense frustration would get the better of him.

Garou walked down a city road out into the fields to enjoy some fresh air as the other players cried and begged for their lives and families. He felt guilty for not trying to console them, but he couldn't find his strength to do so.

Uso-Jun slammed the blunt end of his spear into the plaza's tile, resulting in a loud "thwak!" He scanned the plaza again noticing the faces of everyone around him emotions ranging from sorrow to fear to anger were everywhere to be seen. While Uso-Jun was extroverted it wasn't the time to be around this many people, he had to do something. As his eyes glanced through the crowd he saw people that were not paralyzed by the information leave the plaza, this inspired him to real action. He strapped the spear to his back and made a b-line for the closest exit. It was monster killing time.

He need an outlet for his frustration and an inlet for experience so what better way than killing monsters? His entanglement with a pair of boar had been interrupted by the teleport. If he was going to beat this game he was going to have to get strong and stronger faster. At the archway Uso-Jun looked back and whispered, "Stay alive." to the crowd; then, sprinted down the cobblestone roads toward the gate.

Garou strolled back into town after an hour, still exhausted from grinding outside the Starting City in the fields. He couldn't tell what to do with the money he had earned: get a better weapon, get real armor, or buy some food. He knew he needed some rest soon at an inn, but it was just before sunset. He might as well look around the town and check for vendors. As Garou stepped through the city, he noticed the other players. Although some were still freaking out about Sword Art Online's merciless rules, most people began to get a feel for the flow in the Starting City.

The boy walked into a marketing district and did his best to avoid interacting with other players. Although their social motions were interesting, Garou felt like he would rather go it alone for now. He eventually reached a weapon shop. The lad unsheathed his two-handed longsword and examined it closely, noticing every nick and detail of the blade. He figured that it would do for now. Who knows, he thought. Maybe the rough, unsharp edge could tear through enemies rather than cut them. Such a ridulous, barbaric thought induced a miniscule smile on Garou's face. It was stupid to think that a dull sword was better than a pristine weapon, but such fancying kept the youth from breaking down into a state of depression. He almost died about ten minutes ago; any silly diversion was welcome.

When Takuto heard the news of the game he felt confused confused as to why Kayaba Akihiko would do this to all the players. He looked around at some of the expressions on other players faces. most were in complete shock but he noticed others who were different some blank, others proud, even a smirk of happiness on a players face.

Takuto just looked to the ground as he always does when he thinks to himself, "So if I die here",his mind flashed of his girl back at home who hadn't logged in yet thankfully, his eyes grew wide a tear ran down his cheek I will never see her again". Looking around his surroundings he noticed the barriers dissolving,"I have to leave now!", he ran past the barrier out to the fields. He stares into the eyes of a boar he pictures his girl friend again and rage fills his heart he slices straight through the boars body killing it instantly he then does this with several other boars and then drops on his back from exhaustion. "this will be much tougher than I thought".

He looked up to the sky. "I guess... I'm just glad to be alive..." Garou's words rung half true in his heart, but another part of him disagreed. No, it told him. You hate being alive. The only joy that you have in this bastard world is killing. Garou shook away the negative thoughts and stretched his arms. "So, you're still level 1?"

Rage was strolling around the plains in floor 1 until he saw a familiar face, it was his friend Garou, the chainman, atleast that's what he likes to call him. While wearing his black cloak, which is somewhat looks like his clothes, his outfit is a black attire like always.

Rage continued to walk towards Garou and saw a figure on his far left, fighting boars then dropping to the floor, he then saw Garou talking to another figure, so as Rage was walking towards Garou he took off his hood to reveal his self. "'Sup, Garou"

"Hello, Rage. How are you today?" Garou did a curtsy bow to his friend and took out Heaven's Beam. He held the shining blade up in the glimmering sunlight. "I've been keeping it pampered, its saved my skin more than once." He remembered the Mountain Shell and Lost Wraith, almost twitching from bitter memories of the harshness of such extreme battles.
