[PP-F1] <<Earning A Living>> Foraging...

"KEEY-Ohhh-neee!"  I called with an exuberant wave.  "The cart is over here! Come! Come!" I placed my hands on my hips and arched my back till I felt several satisfying cracks and pops. The gentle ruffle of my cap billowing in the gentle breeze of the morning. The warmth of the sun as it kissed my face. Oh...these were supposed to be nice things right? I tilted my head with a laugh. Maybe they were? It felt freeing but it was oh so mundane. I glanced behind me at the cart. A woman wearing the most boring absolutely drab shade of green hobbled out of the cart and it took every ounce of control within me not to shove her off those lil steps she was struggling so hard to get down off of.

"So, it appears you've found me,"

"Woman!" I said with an impatient tap of my foot as the lilac haired giant approached me. She was always so calm and collected - one of these days I just wanted to watch her snap! That would be an absolute delight. "Hurry up! The thing..." I gestured wildly toward the old lady. "It's trying to talk to me! Like, eargh. You're the people person. You deal with it."

Khione approached Vex and slapped him upside the head. "I told you not to call me that." She hissed. It was bad enough the lunatic knew her screen name, it was worse - that he would shout it loudly for all to hear.

Vex simply laughed, offering the woman a salute. "My bad, My bad!" He pointed to the NPC with a gloved finger. "Can you deal with that? Please?"  he clasped his hands together and fell to his knees in an overly exaggerated display of begging. "I could not, would not hold myself back if she dare approaches me! I can't help it! The desire too strong. So please?"

Khione sighed. "The usual." She said. Alluding to some kind of exchange the two had. Vex offered her two thumbs up. "You got it boss!" He said with a exuberant laugh.

 

Khione approached the NPC, ignoring most of the dialogue she would offer them, then grabbed the <<Cursed Compass>> set, she threw one to Vex, and kept one for herself. "Come on then, puppy." She said with a tilt of her head. The woman wanted to get this quest over and done with as soon as possible.

"This might take us a while, we didn't grab any buffs before hand." Khione said with a sigh as she knelt down to start looking for whatever materials they could find.

"Well....why didn't you grab any beforehand, hmmm?" I asked as I waggled my brows in her direction. I already knew the answer. But I loved to watch her reactions. Khione snapped her head toward me as she dusted her hands off. 

"Because YOU shanked the guy trying to deliver them to us." She spat, oh! There it is. She was fuming. I loved seeing that side of her, what a delight. It was always fun when the calm ones bit back.

I shrugged in response. "To be fair...he had a very stab-able face." Frankly, everyone did. Even my sweet little leader before me. She was just more tolerable than the rest. I'd follow her to the ends of the earth if I had to! As long as she didn't stifle me, or my creativity she was fine. And it seemed that the woman had zero interest in my extra curricular activities, which suited me oh so perfectly.

"Right!" I said as I shook the compass. "So we're supposed to use this to find..." My foot stubbed something, I bent down and picked it up. A Demonic Shard?  
"Oh. One of these things, right?"  

I bounded to stand in front of her, spinning the little crystalline shard in my hand. Oh how luck favours the fortunate! "See, its not so hard!" I said gleefully. Rubbing my instant win in her face. "Maybe its just a....skill issue for you?"

Khione was frustrated with the ease in which Vex had managed to grab the shard - he kept waving it to and fro in front of her face. "Stop that." She said with a light bat at his hand, it only fueled the madman to continue, practically dancing around her as he held it aloft, like it was some sort of precious commodity. 

"Put that thing away before you poke someones eyes out." Khione said as she bent down to shift her hand through another patch of mushrooms, finding nothing she sighed as Vex laughed.

"Oh honey buns don't threaten me with a good time! Did you wanna hear how an eye feels when you poke it?"

"No Vex."

He ignored her, getting in close as he pressed his thumb and forefinger together. "It's less squishy than you think! It has a bit of firmness to it!" He said as he mimicked squishing something.

"I was a nurse. I know."

"Oooh that's right!" He said as he clasped his hands together, squatting in the ground next to her. "You got to deal with ALL sorts of squishy things huh?"

"Vex, let me just find this damn thing so we can get out of here."

I laughed, this is why I liked her. She had a way with words, a certain... aura - what would someone call it? Dommy Mommy energy? Yes! She had such a commanding way about her and I wondered if she even realized it. She chastised me and tried to bat me away, but that only goaded me to annoy her further. As she fussed about in the ground I stood and stretched. I took long strides around her humming no particular tune, even shifting my head side to side. "Hey...Hey, Khione~"

"Emilia."

Ah, thats right. The woman was obsessed with using her real name. Hell if I knew why. It wasn't like she was one of those poor unfortunate souls who gave themselves a name like ballslicker2020 or something. Still, it was fun to tease her. To toss that little tidbit that I was one of the few, if only players who knew that name - alive at least! I shrugged. "Right, right Emilia. Emilia. Emilia....any luck yet? I'm bored?" I punctuated my words by collapsing on the ground right in front of her, squishing the pile of mushrooms she was looking through. 

"Oopsie!"

"Oopsie!"

Khione stared at Vex as he sat nestled amongst the mushrooms. "Really?" She asked. Khione was in the middle of a forage attempt and the red notification flashed across her screen, telling her that she had failed. Did he really have to bother her this much? The woman sighed. Vex had followed her around since day 1 - as soon as he found out she was a nurse, he thought it was hilarious. Since then, he hadn't left. Even coming to her with gruesome details of his latest deeds. Khione didn't care about them, she didn't really care about others either - but the sheer delight he took in it annoyed her.

He shrugged his shoudlers then booped her nose as he took off his hat and placed it on her head. "What can I say?" he said with a mad giggle. "I'm just...a fungi!"

"Get out of my way." Khione said as she pushed him. Vex gave a 'wee' as he rolled over and over till he hit a tree. 

"Hmm?"

Khione reached over and grabbed a small crystal that had stuck to his back. Well, guess he was useful for something after all. Khione stood and kicked him in the back. "Come on, we're done now."

"Yipee!" Vex said as he practically sprang to his feet. "So, like, we going to go on trips together more Emilia dear~!?"

"Pretty much. Not that I plan to do much with it - I can't imagine you having the concentration to sit and forage."

"HELL NO." Vex said loudly. "I'd rather pay someone to do it."

Was she absolutely delusional? Expecting me to just flaff about collecting materials and gems? For what purpose? I didn't even want to do this damn quest in the first place. I was only here because she was, and quite frankly... I was bored. She could get anything she wanted with a warm smile and that charisma of hers - I could probably just buy it or stab the thing till I got what I wanted. So why were we belittling ourselves with such a benign and tiresome quest? I sighed as I followed behind Khione in a leisurely stroll as we made our way back toward the caravan.

Women

I'd never understand them.

Not that I ever wanted to.

We neared the caravan and I grinned as I quickened my pace to be ahead of Khione. I threw her a wild grin

"Vex, don't."

"Vex Do!" I said in delight as I grabbed the demonic compass and with a 'Hiyaa!' I hurled that thing at her head. She barely registered it. Just turned to me and told me how thankful she was that I bought her the demonic shard, and how I returned her compass. "Ugh..." I dusted off my suit. "NPCs.. am I right?"

"Please don't go stabbing the quest givers till after we've finished." Khione said with a heavy sigh. The man was practically a child. How he managed to survive prison was beyond Khiones skillset. Perhaps he was a pretty face and charmed his way through. Maybe his more eccentric traits made people stay the hell away from him. Whatever the reason, Khione felt she was better off not knowing. Unlike her companion Khione calmly handed the compass back to the quest giver - Giovanni? Odd name for a woman tending to a cart but what did she care.

Vex was practically bouncing on the spot, "Okay, okay, okay...but what about..after?" 

"After I leave. I'm not dealing with your aftermath." Khione said sternly.

Vex gave her a salute, then took off his hat and gave her a low and sweeping bow. "of course my sanguine angel."

Khione rolled her eyes as she handed off the compass and the demonic shard. 

<<Quest Complete>> 

It popped up for the both of them at the same time. Luckily, they managed to complete it fairly quickly. Maybe Vex wasn't too bad to keep around after all.
