[PT-SP-F17] Golden Apple (Challenge of Olympus: Forager)

Recommended Posts

Plucking some herbs from their roots core, she was almost done with this skill. I was rather easy to level unlike the others which took an annoying amount of time. Morrighan knew that she was much better at this than most people would ever hope to imagine. The one thing that she was confused about is that she had yet to get one of those challenge quests for this skill. Starting to wonder if there were such things. The moment she thought about it, her HUD chimed. “Oh now that is weird for sure” saying as she opens it to accept the invite. Morrighan wanted so badly to respond, to state that they were slow to the punch on the invitation but she would be seeing them shortly. Gathering the rest of the materials in this area she would start heading in the direction of the question. The small amount of breeze on this floor causes her hair to flow behind her.

If she could feel cold it might have been chilly too but that was all mind over matter in her opinion. Gathering a single fine looking acorn, she would raise her hand up, pushing it across the winds. A portal would appear and she would walk through. Stepping out, arriving at the foot of the mountain. Another long walk that she would have to travel. The path was too dangerous for a pet given that there are rockslides at nearly every curve, ramp and shift of elevation going up. About half way up she finds the non-hostile creature that she has already seen a few times. Upon seeing her, it just turns as starts walking knowing that there was nothing to say that wouldn’t make the woman hush him. Good, he was starting to get it. Morrighan continues the route up while ducking under a few loose rocks that came free from the cliff side.

Quest Objective | Meeting a nymph, who acts as an escort for the player

After some time they both get to the top. The creature was breathing heavily but this time he wasn’t holding onto the mountain side. Hmm maybe the thing took her advice from last time. That was a bit strange, normal NPC’s wouldn’t do such a thing. They would just go about their business without a thought to any words given to them. A few more steps up as she pushes the large metal doors open with both hands. Demeter was there to greet her, good she didn’t have to wait for them to figure shit out this time. It was strange to have the woman meet her here, from Morrighan’s understanding Demeter was usually settling in her grove for the greetings. Come to think of it, the woman wasn’t at the meet up when she was here last time. “I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. They all speak very highly of you” Demeter says with a smile toward Morrighan with a finger pointing back toward the others behind her.

Quest Objective | Speaking with Demeter, goddess of harvest and agriculture

“And here is the time wasting, if you truly knew me you would know that I hate just standing here doing nothing. So either you give me a challenge nature lady or I’m out of here.” She folds her arms across the chest, tapping on the tiled floor with her right foot waiting for the woman to speak up. Demeter just chuckles “Right this way” saying as she turns away from the impatient white haired woman and starts walking toward the back of the large empty room. Morrighan of course follows, wondering when words would be spoken. “I take great pride in my garden, it is large and well kept, almost like a maze.” Getting to the glass double doors, she lightly pushes them open to let her guest outside first. “Out here there are ten plants that are not in the right place. Find them, touch them and they will vanish from view and be returned to the home that I placed them in originally.”

Quest Objective | Initiating a challenge set out by Demeter

This was not a typical challenge for this art. It usually contained gathering but maybe the woman knew that Morrighan was too good for something so simple. “So find the thing out of place, touch the thing and move on to the next. That is my task?” Demeter just nods with a smile. Morrighan shrugged her shoulders “Okay, be back in a jiffy” saying as she walked into the massive area full of plants, vines, flowers and much more. With a female being so involved with nature, it was safe to assume that she was looking for literally anything out of place. Colors that don’t match the coding. Objects or plants that didn’t blend together much like poetry that just rolled off the tongue. It was like trying to find Waldo. Eyes carefully gaze slowly over each plant life in this beginning area. She would stop and stare at a flower that was bigger than most of the floral here.

Walking to it, she would touch it and it would vanish. Grinning, she would look back to Demeter who was leaning against the door frame watching. It was then that she realized that everyone else was looking out from inside. Shaking her head and rolling her eyes. Taking one more glance around before continuing into what the lady claimed to be a maze. If everything looked so obvious like the one she just found then this was going to be easier than she thought. Head jerking back to her right, there was a cactus sitting in the middle of a sunflower patch. “Wow, Demeter really needs to find better hiding spots.” That was two, touching it before it would vanish like the last. Moving forward, there was a small pond of lily pads with little frogs hopping around and in the water. She would smile at this as it was actually beautiful in its own way.

Butterflies of all colors and sizes would fly past in groups of fours. Crickets sang within the bushes of plenty. Small holes carved in tree stumps, leaning down looking in there were feeders for birds that crossed the area. Raising her eyes she would see a cherry blossom tree in the distance. Curious she would walk toward it. Twisting her head slightly, inspecting it. There were no pink petals laying across the ground, but on the same note there was no wind to blow them off the branch. Morrighan knew first hand that there would be at least some litter across the ground. There was no weather in her own domain unless she made it there. Even so, the world that never was had petals everywhere on the grassy plain. Taking a few steps forward, placing a palm on the tree, it would vanish. Another one down, she was pretty good at this.

In place of where the fake tree once stood there was a large stump about feet of the ground. Being a ten foot radius around, it was cool looking. White oak was hardly ever seen but here it was right in front of her. She began to wonder where the rest of the tree was, given that it was so rare to begin with. Maybe she would find it further into the wilderness that was this ladies garden. Following the yellow brick road, crazy that it was actually yellow. “Wait a minute” saying as she stops dead. Glancing around, the brick color was different than before. Trailing the path backwards it was a light brown color. This didn’t match the original setting. Leaning down, placing her hand on the yellow bricks, they vanish and turn to the brown again. “Thought so” she comments as she gets up and continues her way forward.

Stepping up on a white wooden bridge, “This is where the rest of that tree went.” Brushing her palm upon the smooth crafted oak railings as she looks over. There was a stream of moving water, how was it moving? Hopping over the barrier, she would follow the flow down. Standing on a small cliff, it was a fifteen feet drop down. A small waterfall that created a decent size body of water. Something seemed different about it, there was steam coming off of it and she could feel the heat from where she was standing. She would never admit it to the woman back at the entrance but she really did have something good going on in this garden of hers. Peering downward, outlining the edges of the waterfront she would see a small glow in the distance. With some urgency in her step, she hops down and moves to it.

A red flower known as a fire lily. There were multiple versions of this flower but this one was known as the Cyrtanthus ventricosus. It certainly did not belong here, these were usually found around mountains. More curious thoughts as to what it was doing here. It crossed her mind for a split second that they were literally standing on a mountain, that could very well be the reason. Touching it, the lily would vanish and she would smile. Another one down, just a handful more to go. Moving away from the hot springs now, deeper into the plateau of plants she would find herself standing in a small clearing with a sand patch. “Really, a metallurgy gathering point. These can only be found on beach areas” reaching down toward it, setting her hand against the grains as it would vanish. “I thought this was supposed to be a challenge.” saying as she straightens herself up and starts glancing around again.

Out of nowhere she hears something rustling in the small amount of trees in the distance. To be honest Morrighan would think it was just the people that were supposed to be in the entry way watching her. She would pay no mind to the action or thought and move forward with the task. Coming across an apple tree, it was the first food thing that she had seen out here. There wasn’t even fish in the water behind her. This had to be one of the misplaced things. There was no other in the direct area around her, so that meant that there was more of the same in a different location. Placing a hand on the trunk it would vanish like all the other stuff that she first tried pied on. This was claimed to be hard but in her opinion this was just an ordinary day for her. A sound of a branch breaking behind her, she would look back but nothing was there.

Getting closer to the sound that was heard, back in the older days of her existence, nothing usually meant something, and that something meant bad most of the time. This was also supposed to be a non-combat area. So either she was being followed and watched or there was something lurking, blending that was not meant to be here. “Come out and maybe I’ll let you live” she did not like things sneaking around her. She would not tolerate it from those NPC’s back there either. She would suddenly see a shadow pass by but it didn’t look human. To be honest, she didn’t think it was hostile. If it was then it would have already tried attacking her but it hasn’t yet. “Hmm” raising a brow as she slowly turns her head back seeing a moonglow bulb that has yet to sprout up into a bloom. “Okay, your out of place.” as she walks toward it, placing a hand upon it before it vanishes.

There were things spawning here that shouldn’t be possible, like where in god's name is the beach where that metallurgy patch came from. The lady had said that the items found were misplaced and would return to their once so called home. Most of the objects that have been found have no business being here or didn’t belong like the moonglow bulb. Another rustle of bushes behind her, glaring eyes follow but see nothing “How curious, what an interesting turn of events.” starting to parse the uniqueness of the situation. The shift in possibility had really left her estranged, finding the oddity sweet to the palette. A sharp shift to her right, she would find a golden apple hanging from a branch. Again with the food thing, it was the only thing of its kind around which to her meant that it didn’t belong. Touching the golden fruit, it would vanish like all the others.

Another sound from behind her, a glaring twist and this time she sees more than just a shadow. A white head with a beak as she sees a brown feather gliding softly toward the ground. Running through the garden now, more determined than ever to figure out what this thing was and why it was following her. Catching it in her view now, it looked familiar. “Stop right there, feathers up or I’ll shoot.” She was holding finger guns up toward the prey with a smile. The creature slides to a halting stop, slowly raising his wings up from its sides and turning toward her. “It is you, get over here you sneak.” As it runs toward her cawing the entire way. It lowers their head down as Morrighan pets his head. “You could have just come to me, you know that right” another cawing sound. One of Morrighan’s many pets was found.

This one being a very large eagle. A white head from the neck up with a beautiful brown coating of feathers. “Come on old friend” saying with a smile toward him as he gives a cooing sound. That was many many questions to be asked. Eventually getting back to the beginning of this very weird place she sees Demeter still leaning. Upon seeing Morrighan she would lift herself up right as her eyes grew wide staring at the creature that was following behind. Morrighan sees this reaction and says “Yeah I would love to know why MY pet was hiding out here unless you were holding him captive.” The woman shakes her head quickly “I promise I did no such thing. I had no idea it was here, I swear. Cross my heart and hope to die.” Watching the woman carefully, there seemed to be an honest truth to her words.

“And what about the moonglow flower? Did you steal it?” Demeter twists her head in confusion, “The moon what?” Morrighan walks a few feet forward toward the woman. “The Moonglow Flower, it only blooms within the night sky’s and can only be found in one place. Somehow it evaded up here in your garden. If you lie to me there are going to be real problems here.” Heading to the table quickly she dumps all the things out of the bag that she had collected in the large area. "I swear I have no idea how that got there either. I know every flower and plant that grows in the grove and that moon flower you speak of was not one of them.” The woman had almost fear in her eyes as Nisahime stared her down. The chick you take a few steps back, was she afraid of Morrighan? “He counts as one of my collected objects. They do not belong with you.”

“Yes, yes of course.” The woman slowly took a few steps forward to look at the pile of stuff now on the table. It was all there. Everything that was placed for the hide and seek game was found. “This belongs to you Nisa” says as she holds out an amulet by the chain. Before Morrighan could say anything more she took the tool and the NPC fled. She was probably trying to check everything to figure out how new life was spawning without her doing it herself. It didn’t do that very often apparently. To her it just looked like she put the fear of god into the woman and that she left to try getting rid of evidence before something bad happened to her. Setting the amulet into her pocket she would look back to the others. “Don’t try to cheat again when I come back. Play fair or there will be hell to pay.”

Seeing them all back away from her, she pushes the large metal doors open and walks out. Holding the door open for her pet with a light smile, he runs out. Finding the creature that came up with her, they were leaning their back against the mountain's walls looking in her direction. The thing had a bow on his right horn. Remembering that last time she was up here she had told the beast to find a bow to decorate himself with. This was the major first part of her test. The other thing that crossed her mind was that all the NPC’s in that building that was now behind her were actually showing fear. That is something that they couldn’t be able to do. That meant to her that there was definitely something going on. They were all becoming more human somehow and she was something that he had to figure out the why to.

Walking down the mountain path as she thought about what she was going to do. Maybe a survey that she would make them all fill out. Something that they couldn’t just speed through. Questions that would make them stop and think if they actually could. Little by little she was becoming more convinced that these NPC’s were not who they claim to be. Did that mean that she had to watch her back? Were they going to randomly turn into the Loch Ness monsters or something because the last time she fought that thing, it wasn’t fun. Either way things were changing faster than she was wanting them to. She still had five of these damn things to go through and these little tasks like walking up and down the hill were not helping with the time management aspect of things. Getting down the mountainside path finally she would put two fingers in her mouth and whistle.

Patting her eagle on the head, he would lean down and sit. This allows her to hop on top of her long lost friend. “Fly low for now, not sure how the game will react to a flying player yet.” She wanted to be safer than sorry in the long run. Lifting to his large feet, it starts to run in a random direction and takes off into the air. She could feel the wind against her face, it felt nice, like old time becoming new again. Everything she was was starting to finally feel normal again aside from the restriction that the cardinal wouldn’t allow under any circumstances. One step at a time, she would eventually get back to the strength that was stolen from her long ago. Soaring through the skies of Aincrad, she closed her eyes to savor this moment for if only just a minute. After this she would continue on with all the tasks that she had left to do. The list was getting smaller but there was still a huge amount left.
