Reytac's fingers twitched as he made his way through the woods. He'd been told that the person he was looking for was somewhere out here in the forest, and more, that their home would be exceedingly noticeable. What, exactly, that meant, the brunette adventurer had no idea of, but it did make him look for things that were out of place. When he'd gotten the last bit of information in town, the NPC had mentioned that Reytac wasn't the only one who had asked about the new trainer that had moved down here from 'somewhere else' - but had clammed up afterwards. He put that back out of his mind for now - if he ran into someone else out here, it wasn't like there was a limited number of people who could be in a profession. it'd make the time go by faster if he had someone to chat with while doing this - he was already anticipating a bit of a grind in actually trying to complete the quest, if it was anything like his gathering profession one had been.

Reytac stepped past some trees and over a half-decayed log, ignoring the way the ground on the other side squished beneath his boot. There were times when he really enjoyed the realism of Aincrad - but other times where he wished where they had kept it a bit more restrained. He rubbed the bridge of his nose as he looked around, looking for anything that screamed 'I don' t be long here' to him. At first he didn't spot anything and he thought he was going to have to keep hunting deeper into the forest - which, since this was a trainer quest, was getting a bit odd to him - but just as he was about to start trekking further away from town, he saw something.. Odd.

It was mostly obscured from him, and still a good ways away from where he was, but there had been something that was distinctly blue/white. Even the small flash that he could see through the trees and bushes between them was jarring, leaping out against the medley of browns and greens that everything was slowly blending into. That was at least enough that he could say that it was something worth checking out. He pushed his way through a dense bit of brush, pausing long enough to snag a thick twist of spiny plant matter that registered as a material, before he froze, staring ahead of him, trying to wrap his brain around what he was seeing.

There was what looked like a young, white haired girl in a red dress hanging from a rather thick tree branch ahead of him. She was upside down, hair swaying beneath her, her legs hokked over the tree branch Ike a kid on monkey bars at a park. It looked like she had been sitting on the branch then let herself drop backwards, and one arm was outstretched, fingers wrapping around.. It almost looked like a peach, mixed with an apple? It was kind of fuzzy when Rey looked at it, almost like the model generation had stopped halfway between two fruits.

"Ah.. Hello?" Rey tried to keep it down, in case speaking too loudly made the girl startle and fall from her perch.

  • Reytac changed the title to {{PP-PT-F01-"Earning a Living: Engineer"}} Sparks and Mirrors

The somber woods of floor one sat just as untouched as usual. A simple breeze to be her only company. At the base of the tree sat her dancing mimic, one in dark purple and gold fittings eagerly waiting to catch what she broke free. The midday sun peaked through the canopy above, allowing streaks of light to pierce through the leaves and offer the thinnest of visibility. Another fruit falls, causing the living box on the ground to clamber over and open wide to catch it like a basket ball hoop. The interest of the day? A newly formed oddity that had sprung up just outside the walls of Tolbana, urging players of all sorts to pay it a visit. But the woman would get the jump on them all, knowing full well what misinterpretation this newly created 'Engineer' would be. If it were any more obvious it would be as if nothing had been obfuscated at all. The meal of the day: Bomb pods, ones that most would mislabel and for the stupider would try to consume them.

All she had to do is collect a few, then screw around with whatever rudimentary bench had been plastered in the NPC's hobbit hole. It likely paled in proficiency to the aged on in the world that never was, as could be said to Maggie's little kitchen or Axel's little studio. The rustle of the woods, one that eluded to another occupant that did not match the grace of the winds, and yet around their neck it was carried. "Interesting..." Nisahime mutters, tightening her legs and allowing her body to drop into a dangle from a branch she'd been walking like a tight rope. "What brings you out so far? You do know great wurms roam these woods?" The girl turned to address @Reytac with a vibrant pair of red eyes, unnatural in their blood colored hue. "A stripe of bravery, of courage..." Her attention shifts back to the fruit and plucks its stem allowing it to fall low, joining its brothers in the box. "Hello, the names Nisa. That should suffice." The woman quips and unfolds her legs, catching herself on her hands and rolling forward in a tumble beating the fruit to the ground.

Reytac couldn't help himself after the whiteheaded - not girl, that speech pattern was not that of a child, so something else there. Which, was good, because he had thought that no children had been able to play this death game. One of the few 'kindnesses' that Kayaba had done. But in the here and now, Rey couldn't help the snort that came when the white-haired woman said it was 'courage' to be out here when Wurms roamed. Not that he'd known that, but he didn't know if that would have stopped him anyway.

"Courage, maybe, but that's sometimes just foolishness under a fancy coat." Then she dropped and Reytac found himself in a half-lunge, trying to catch her - even if this was just a game seeing someone who looked young fall on their head wasn't something he was just going to let happen - and then she landed on her hands and rolled forward, coming up smoothly after introducing herself. The maneuver reminded him of an old movie he'd watched, seeing Gene Wilder roll forward to introduce himself. Reytac shook off the nostalgia to answer the other player's question.

"Right, well, glad you're okay from that. As for why I'm here, I think my destination is behind you, there. I heard about a new profession trainer, like a lot of people I think, and I've come seeking them." The Engineer profession had fascinated him as soon as he'd heard about it - not just the traps or bombs, which were interesting enough - but being able to get the Spark Stones? Being able to force trigger of weapon effects, or combining sword arts? That was going to be tremendous, and finding out how to make them, for his own use or for others, was something that he was already itching to do.

The girl glances up to Reytac who held damn near a half foot on her in this state, finding his extended arms to be rather adorable albeit slightly condescending as expectations hardly adhered to actuality. But the guy clearly didn't know who or what she was, something she could dismiss without much concern. Her hands raise and clap down across his opened palms, like a frat boy performing a secret handshake. "Well said~" She remarks with a chipper twist, flashing a thumbs up to the brunette and waving her hand low to call the box over. "Off to see the walrus, the wonderful walrus of aincrad? Despite his name he isn't wearing red and white pinstripes. Unfortunate given it'd likely give him an impenetrable camouflage and we'd never find him." The sarcasm bled through every word, the jest swinging like the fruit on the branches above.

"Now, to the fanciest of coat wearing fools. Got what you need? Homeboy is going to want some scrap metal or bits of twine. Literally anything." Spoken as she kicks open the lid of her mimic like a pythons jaw and drops her upper torso into the thing that didn't seem adequate to support the size, hoisting herself using her waist as a lever. The sounds of grinding and clattering objects can be heard from beneath the void that was its gullet, the teeth folding away to not pierce her stomach. "Yep, got plenty what about you tex?" The muffled words becoming much less stifled as she returns to view, the living chest springing its top back to close up. "Turn out your pockets, got any paperclips, pocket lint, buttons. These NPC will accept anything. Guy is about three clicks north east of here, and I'd like to hit him before sundown." Flashing a thumb in a point, she'd already spotted that new construction a day ago before the notice even reached a quest board.

It was honestly kind of interesting watching Nisa work. The shorter player was lackadaisacal about things, but he couldn't blame her - even before the insanity of being trapped in a death game, people could be weird, and the stress of being trapped for years had done a number on everyone. He dropped his hands back down as he looked around them, his eyes falling towards a root that was sticking up from the ground near his feet. A simple tug brought it to the surface, revealing it was more a mess of roots wrapped around a chunk of metal ore. Rey dropped that into his inventory as he started walking in the direction she had indicated - the same direction he'd seen the odd flash of color before.

"Not everything, not yet. I probably should have been grabbing things on the way over as I could, but I was thinking about what could be done with the bits and bobs, rather than gathering." He wasn't going to mention his frustrations with gathering things in the past - First the ingredients for the first bloody quest, then for the gatherer quest. He didn't know if he was cursed or just that terribly unlucky, but it felt like getting even a single material in a day was a tremendous success for him. Hopefully he was able to gather everything he needed for this quest in a timely fashion.

It was already pretty obvious that whoever this strange red-clad woman was, she was way higher in skill than he was. He might be a coat-clad fool, but she'd also been out here without a care in the world for the wurms she'd mentioned - and Rey had a solid feeling that was because if one of the scaly monstrosities decided to bother her, there would be one less wurm and more worm food around.

The nonchalant strolling as the girl moved would convey how little stock and concern that she felt obligated to hold for her surroundings, Reytac in his demeanor would show that he had likely pegged that something was amiss yet his silence spoke volumes. "You got a name? Don't think I caught it." The brash albeit direct inquiry as she'd pluck and pocket all manner of flora from her surroundings as she'd walk. Each little thing seemed more obtuse and worthless then the last, yet even still she'd shove it into her inventory all the same. "Its like I can hear the gears turning in that dome of yours. Fancy yourself an inventor?" The woman responds off the cuff, no hesitation or filter.

A swelling forest cuts into a clearing, showing flowers and brush in spectrums of color nigh unfit for the dim and soul crushing perimeter. A twitch of her nose, and a press of her index and thumb into her lips sees a shrill whistle follow. From overhead a bird roars down, perching itself on her left arm as she raises it. A darker brown with white underbelly, sharp black beak and matching eyes. A tap of her finger against its bill, causes a screech in agreement. "Still in his little shanty? Good. Don't want to lose him. Off you go, keep your eyes peeled." A thrust of her arm catapults the bird like a winding missile back out and above the canopy. "Had a thought..." The woman remarks turning to a bag on her hip, removing a spindle that glimmers in the light. "Spider silk from floor 21." She tosses it underhanded to Reytac. "Tougher then most metal and a bitch to cut, its treated so its not adhesive." A point of her finger toward her head to concrete her implication. "Tripwire, right?"

"Ah, sorry about that. Name's Reytac." Telling her his name had completely slipped his mind since he had initially thought she was going to fall on her face, and the oddity and abruptness to her actions, like diving into a mimic, had kept him offkilter just a bit. "And, I suppose? I wouldn't have called myself one before all this, if anything I was just another guy. But in here, sometimes you need an edge. Or at least, I will. And the thought of tinkering with things appeals to me." Somehow, Reytac didn't really think this woman would need anything like an 'edge'. It was rather strange, really, seeing so many people who were so well established when he himself was... Stumbling about like a newborn foal.

But that was his own fault. He paused, kneeling down to pick up a particularly shiny rock, before standing back up just in time to catch the thing that Nisa had tossed his way. He turned it over in his hands, his eyes narrowing as he studied it. If it worked like she had said it did... Tripwire would be one use for it, sure. But a flexible string that was insanely durable? "Tripwire, or a noose or garrote." His voice was low, not quite a mumble, as he turned the spool over in his hands. It would be interesting to play with the parameters of the Engineer class and what all traps could actually do, and test its boundaries. The Aincrad system seemed to be ever-growing, sometimes in reaction to Player actions, so seeing what he could manage was becoming more and more fascinating.

Reytac held the spool back out towards Nisa as he looked towards her animal companion. He couldn't quite place what kind of bird it was, but she wasn't the first Player he'd seen with a companion, pet. And he was starting to get the itch to do the quest himself and obtain his own partner. "It would definitely fill that role. And spidersilk would be a pain to see in the first place, even more than normal wire."

Using an index and a thumb, the woman reclaims the spool of potent strand from Reytac's hand. "Your thoughts don't match your words, Reytac." Nisahime comments to the fact that the man considered himself mundane yet as before, the inspiration and possibility that unfurled through his gaze upon being handed the wire had more then revealed something deeper. Half of the tinkerer's MO was spotting nuance and foreseeing interplay between multiple moving parts, the fact he could see the spidersilk like a piece of a grander puzzle affirmed her belief that he'd more then succeed his goals.

"Good idea, but maybe leaving it untreated and sticky would make it even more effective. Thoughts....Thoughts..." The white haired broad begins to trail in silent epiphany, spotting out the igloo as she crested the hill and overlooked its decline. Overhead the circling shadow some 100 ft up conveys that the walrus hadn't skedaddled to god knows where. "Snag another, I'm going to go and catch a walrus before he hibernates or something." A gesture with her thumb over her shoulder before she bounds down the hill, gaining a bit of speed that tapers off as the grass levels out. A tap of the door sees it swing open, and the first thing that catches her attention is a plaid patterned beret barely above her waist. Nisahime busts out laughing, using her hand to measure the air from where her expectations where then down to the NPC's actual height. "No wonder no one found you, barely two feet tall~"

The purple flush of color across bluish grey blubber provides a show of outrage, having been called short was a bit of a nerve struck. A pair of cheeks begin to bloat out, and with them the allure with a rebuttal cresting the horizon. "SKIP, Save it, borrowing your shop. K thanks." Not even allowing the thing to speak, waste her time with its insistent dribble in a mind numbing attempt to mansplain her how to do simple math. Why every NPC believed players to be beautifully ignorant and needed a hand holding at every possible moment was beyond her, it bordered slathering everything in yellow paint. To the back of the dome: a large workbench fitted with all manner of wrenches, clamps, vice and tools. The box meanders to her side, and its lid plops wide enough to connect with the floor. Shuffling around, she begins to pool all manner of shit across the table. The spin wheel holding the lever, a flick of her hand proves she's no stranger to this.
