Not every outing needed to have the tall, dark, and handsome assholes involved.

Sinnamon could totally run a party, right? At least, that had been what her thought process was when she called everyone up to floor 22. It would really help the Guild out, she said. A bunch of special potions from an easy boss would really be a boon.

Why the fuck did she say boon?

Sin couldn’t shake the jitters as she sat around and waited. She’d not been a party leader before. And she didn’t want to fuck up. The boss was easy enough, but fucking up would mean that people would get far closer to death than she would have liked. It was extremely important to her that this went off without a hitch. She wouldn’t lie - she had something to prove. To herself, to everyone else. That they didn’t need Oscar to call all the shots all the time.

And it wasn’t a power play or anything. It was a kindness, she thought. Taking some of the responsibility off of Oscar’s shoulders. Actually being the Guild Officer she was, rising to the responsibility that Oscar had given her. The man had a sixth sense for things she found. Able to look straight through someone and see their untapped potential.

Had he seen that in her?

Had he seen some competent leader hiding behind that succubus veneer?

While she waited, Sinnamon picked up a dusty tome that was meant to start the quest. As she did, the Teleportation Platform flared to life. Off stepped Vitalis, Lysette, and Abellio.

“Sup,” Vitalis said, plucking the tome out of Sin’s hands.”Smaller group than usual. You sure we got this?”

Sin nodded. “Boss isn’t as hard as what we’ve been fighting.”

Vitalis just nodded, looking over to Abellio and Lysette as they buffed up. “I believe you. You guys don’t leave much to chance.”

“Yeah,” Abellio said, nodding in agreement with Vitalis. “I’m sure you did your research.”

Sin had. Extensively. Honestly, it took an incredible amount of time to nail down a quest that was simple, safe, and useful enough for them to take on. And this was the only source of a potion of this kind - that increased these stats. At least, as far as the Info Brokers knew. She went to a ton of them. But it was nice to know that her efforts were appreciated.

She was no Frontliner. And she didn’t have extensive knowledge of the Quest List like Oscar did. But she did know the right people. Blackbook had put her in contact with a few of them. The rest she knew from her time traipsing about town.

“Definitely did,” Sin said, the smile covering her internal trepidation. “I just felt like it might be fun for use lowbies to go out on our own and mix it up.”

“Lowbies” was, of course, subjective.

As far as actual levels went, Abellio and Lysette were on up there. Not nearly as high as Oscar, but tied for second place. But Warren was lower than they were. In levels, specifically. He didn’t carry himself like one, though. After all, he just stood there and took a stream of fire from a dragon without a care in the world. And it was that cold professionalism that made Sin fail to make that particular connection.

It didn’t just mean low-level.

It needed a certain unflappability in the face of danger. Lysette was probably closer in that metric than anyone else. Vitalis too.

She couldn’t parse out her own logic, after a while. She was just spinning her wheels, thinking in circles.

Much like how the tornado that picked them up was flinging all of them around in circles. She hadn’t really noticed.
