[SP-F1] <Earning a living> XWuZHeAR

The wind blew particularly harder than usual today. My feet dangled off the rooftop which I still slept and basically lived just without my tent. The NPC free runner was still at it never stopping. As he passes by I extend my hand for the only mechanic of his I have figured out.

"Gimme some man!" I said as the NPC gave me a high five as he passed by.

I suddenly felt a strong gust of wind push me back a little. It's amazing really how no one managed to find a way up here yet. If a pker were to sleep pk me I'd be done for sure. However slacking off for a year I don't exactly have loot at all. Maybe il start using inns tomorrow but, today I will go for a walk. While climbing down the ladder I waved by to the NPC who just kept on doing his stunts. "Some friend." I thought in my head. Finally on the ground I began walking towards the outer rim of the starting town resting my cutlaas out on my shoulder.

"Today I'm going for a walk and whatever happens (sigh) happens." I said aloud as I began nearing the wall.

Finally out on the grasslands now it's time to find something interesting to do. As I began walking I grew bored so in an attempt to cure my border I thought I might try my famous trick and balance the cutlass on my nose. Now walking threw this land of grass with a sword on my nose I couldn't stop thinking "this is a sure fire way to scare off pkers." Suddenly I heard the screams of a little girl and my sword fell of my nose as I stopped walking. I looked around for the source of the scream but found nothing. As I bent down to pick up my sword I heard the scream again this time I knew were it was coming from. I picked up my sword and began running towards the source of the screams.

"Are you ok!?!" I yelled out into the open space as I began to pickup my run into an all out sprint.

As I came closer I saw that it was a little girl who looked too little to be playing SAO being chased by a boar. Soon after that a quest prompt came up titled "saving an innocent scream". The reward looked like a silver crystal basketball I thought it looked cool so I accepted. "Great now I have to fight a boar" I thought.

I quickly ran at the boar at slashed at it from behind with out giving it enough time to react. (2 damage dealt to boar). Now we stare into each other's eyes, it's just me and the boar.

As the fight continued I began to hear the little girl chanting "fight, fight, fight,". "What a weird game." I thought inside my head. Now The boar has began to drag his leg across the dirt a sign he's gonna charge soon. I do the same with my foot for my own personal comedic relief. Then in a split second we both charge at each other.

The boar jumps up and Rams my chest before I can bring my sword around. (1 damage XWuZHeAR). The boar got lucky next time il cut its tail clean off. As the boar turns to face me again I do the same.

The NPC little girl is still chanting fight. I start to loose it a little and decide to join in with the yelling.

" come on. Let's go! Let's go! " I started to scream at the boar.

The little girl kept on chanting fight. The boar ripped a patch of grass up chewed it than spat at my direction.

"Oh hell no." I said as my smirked disappeared.

I decided I needed to let this boar know I meant business so I spat directly at him and even hit him. It did no damage but the boar now looked pissed. The boar charged me and hit me square in the face before I had time to react and got a critical hit off. (2 Damage XWuZHeAR) Ok lesson learned no more messing with the boar.

As I picked my head up off the ground I looked at the NPC little girl.

"Hey your not one of those NPC's that can heal are you?" I said as i was still laying on the ground.

The little girl just continued to shout fight.

"Didn't think so." I said as I got up off the ground and faced the boar once more.

The boar began circling around the spot he ripped out the grass. I decided i needed to make sure he didn't think this fight was over.

"Hey! Ugly!" I yelled at the boar.

The boar turned and sprinted at me but I didn't back down and sprinted back. As we met his horn slashed my stomach as my cutlass slashed his back. (1 damage boar) (2 damage XWuZHeAR)

The Boar only had two hit points left without a doubt it was going down with the next hit. The boar began limping a sign it was in pain. I wasn't exactly in the best shape either luckily this is a game to me. This boar is actually pretty tough to fight granted it's sorta my first time dealing with a MOB. I look over at the little girl still chanting.

"Come at me!" I yelled at the boar.

The boar trying with all it has starts to run at me. It gains more speed than I expected and plows over me but, while it's on top I stick my cutlaas threw its stomach. The boar shatters into the blue crystal like pixels. (2 damage XWuZHeAR) (2 damage Boar)

I was still lying on the ground looking at the girl. Who was chanting "yay! Yay! You won!". As I sat up the little girl walked over said "reward!" As a quest reward screen poped up with that picture of the silver ball. I Accepted and held the ball in my hand it's item name was "Sphere of Symphony". "Poke it and think of any instrument." The little girl said. "Instrument? Oh this must be to become a performer." I thought to myself. I poked the sphere and up poped a screen that said "type in instrument." I had never really played an instrument IRL before coming here. So I thought long and hard on what instrument I really wanted to learn how to play and why. Then it came to me "an acoustic guitar. That way I could have an axe and a cutlass. One for fighting dudes and one for impressing girls. Hahaha" I told myself in my head. So I typed in acoustic guitar and surely the sphere transformed into a silver painted wooden guitar with fleur-de-lises carved into the wood.

"Woah! Dope!" I exclaimed as the guitar fell in my hands.

"Gimme the axe" the little girl said. I handed her the guitar and she played a simple Spanish tune on the guitar. Then she took a ribon out of her hair and tied it to the guitar to use as a strap. "Here. Now you try!" She said as she handed me the guitar. I took the guitar and tried to mimic what her fingers did and to my amazement I played the same tune. Then I realized this was probably just a game mechanic.

I set the guitar down then sat on the ground and equipped 1xbread and 1xwater. As I began eating the NPC little girl said "help." And then a quest window poped up "saving an innocent voice pt. 2"

"Damn for a floor 1 quest this is pretty complex" I said as I accepted the quest.

The little girl began speaking "can you help me get home?"

"Oh so your an escort mission... Sure thing kid just let me regen some HP I kinda almost died." I said as I continued eating my food.

Then I realized the little girl had a HP bar just under mine. It seems I have to keep her alive for the mission. After I finished eating I stood up. "Up! Up!" The little girl said as soon as I got up.

"You want to ride on my shoulders?" I awkwardly asked the NPC.

The NPC nodded and put her arms up.

"Um.. Ok then." I said as I picked her up and placed her on my shoulders.

This was actually kind of nice it reminded me of my nieces back home who I always carried around like this. "What a weird game." I thought as I began walking back to the starting town.

While walking occasionally the NPC little girl would begin singing. "two little hummingbirds in their nest..." The little girl began to sing. This is a pretty weird quest considering how randomly it was placed. There's nothing significant in sight and it's so far from the main path. I decided I might as well complete the quest the reward had something to do with this instrument. At the time of accepting it I was sorta more concerned with the fact I almost died to a boar. The little girl suddenly stopped singing and when I looked up I knew why. There was a wolf directly in our path staring right at me.

"Here you go hang tight I'm gonna go take care of this. Here take the guitar." I said to the little girl as I set her down and handed her the guitar.

The little girl began to tune the guitar as I drew my sword to the wolf. The wolf growled angrily and began barking loudly. The little girl finished tuning the guitar and yelled out "All ready!".

"Hey uh I'm just in the middle of something il come listen to your song in a bit." I said as I faced the wolf.

The little girl began strumming away and the wolf darted at me. And as I swung it bit me on the wrist. It took me only 2 seconds to shake him off. Seems like he's faster than the boar. (1 damage XWuZHeAR)

As I shook the wolf off it began pacing back and forth never looking away from me. The NPC little girl started playing this song which I had thought it sounded a bit like the mortal kombat theme. It was appropriate il give her that but maybe she could play an original song. The wolf howled and came charging at me.

"Mortal Kombat!" I yelled to go along with the song for my amusement as I charged at the wolf.

Just as the wolf jumped up to bite me I step to the side and jam its head down to the ground using the handle of my cutlass.(2 damage wolf) the wolf seemed to whimper a little after hitting the ground but it got back up and growled at me again.

As the wolf growled at me I spat at its direction seeing if it would have any effect. The wolf simply barked and growled at me more ferociously than before. The little girl since has switched songs this one sounded a bit more like the theme song to that tv show the office. I wondered for a second if the guitar was only able to play covers of music from the real world. But then the wolf let out a big howl and my attention snapped back to the fight. The wolf began to dash to the left. I followed suit and then we both cut towards each other. At the moment we were supposed to meet somehow I jumped to high and ended up clearing the wolf. As I landed I rolled over a couple of times and faced the wolf wondering if that really just happened.

The wolf began whimpering again even though I know it's a game I still felt sympathy for the wolf. Maybe having an NPC as my only friend for a year really did mess me up. The little girl continued to play music from the guitar. Surprisingly the wolf stood up tall and kept growling at me. I stared at the wolf not blinking, not moving, and barely breathing. Now I had to put an end to wolf. I raised my cutlass and shined it at the wolfs eyes. The wolf began growling more aggressively and began to charge me. When it leaped up I slid down trying to slash but I missed and the wolf landed and faced me. Now I had missed twice in a row what seemed at first to be an easy fight kept droning on.

This fight just felt like it was going no where. The little girl NPC began playing a very fast tempo song. The more I looked at the wolf the more I felt sorry for it. An animal in pain but due to its coding it won't quit until one of us is dead. How cruel coding an animal to feel pain but not coding a way for it to give up.

"Damn it." I said breathing heavily.

Now I have to end it with this next move the poor thing won't give up. This rounds whimpering ended and the wolf began growling and howling... It was going to attack soon. Instead of getting ready to attack I stand there with my cutlass stuck in the dirt and my arms open wide. The wolf began its strides and I just stood there and waited. When the wolf leaped up I quickly grabbed it by the neck with one hand and grabbed my cutlass with the other. After I forced it to the ground I stuck my cutlass threw its neck and watched as it burst apart into millions of crystal like pixels.( 4 damage wolf)

I got up off the ground and looked down at the little girl. She was standing there smiling holding out my guitar. "This game is so weird." I told my self in my head once again. I happily took the guitar and put the strap over my shoulder.

I bent down and asked the NPC "how about you teach me to play those songs."

The little girl smiled back and grabbed my fingers and showed me the different places they needed to go. Then she raised her arms again and I placed her on my shoulders. I began playing the songs as we started walking. No doubt this was all game mechanics I was able to play those songs, well certain parts anyways.

As we kept walking the NPC started singing another song "I've been working on the railroad..." Sang the little girl. This has become a longer walk that I thought. While I was balancing the cutlass on my nose I must have kept walking further than I intended too. The starting city should be visible just over that hill. I began to run holding onto the little girls legs to reach the top of the hill. "Oohh oohh! That's were my home is!" Said the little girl.

"Yeah we should be able to reach it by sundown." I responded to the NPC.

I decided to start playing the guitar again starting our walk down the hill. I tried playing a song the little girl hadn't shown me. To my surprise I could actually play it. What's even more of a surprise is that the NPC knew the song and began to sing, "Well it happened im feeling low, I got sunshine..."

It was sunset when we finally reached the starting city walls. The NPC little girl had fallen asleep so I began carrying her resting her head on my shoulder. "This is the weirdest f*cking game" I told myself because who codes an NPC that falls asleep during its own quest. When I entered the city I wasn't sure on where to go. I eventually decided to gently shake the NPC to wake her up.

When she finally yawned and opened her eyes I simply said " Hey we're here, now where do you live?"

The NPC opened up my map and dotted the house then quickly fell back asleep. Looking at the map this place was all the way on the other side of the city. It looks like Im not done walking yet.

While walking through the city players flashed me wierd looks as I was sorta carrying a child. One girl player even came up and asked if she was my little sister who also got trapped in the game.

I awkwardly responded with "oh no. She's an escort quest for the game."

Anyways when I finally reached the little girls house she jumped awake and ran into the house screaming, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!". When the woman NPC saw me she said "Thank you for returning my daughter. As a reward I shall teach you how to use that instrument I see my daughter gave you." When the quest reward screen poped up I accepted.

"If your half as good a teacher as your daughter this will be quick." I said jokingly for myself.

The woman NPC placed my fingers on the strings and began telling me the different cords.

I took these lessons for around three days then I was able to play each cord effectively. "Very good it looks like you've come along way since you started." The NPC woman said. Then the NPC woman went on to explain "Being a performer the sound of not only your guitar but your voice can also repel or lure monsters. You can also record your songs on recording crystals to use as "monster grenades" which can disable monsters." This new profession I learned wasn't just for making col it actually had pretty useful combat applications as well. I would also be able to use acrobatics in combat seeing as how I can already balance a cutlass on my nose that shouldn't be hard for me to learn. I nodded to the NPC woman as I was now about to begin a proffesion in this world. As I started to leave the house the little girl NPC ran up to me and said " Wait! I want you to use this ribbon instead of that one I gave you the other day." The little girl held up a red ribbon with golden trim.

"Wow that looks pretty cool!" I said as I handed the girl my guitar so that she can make the switch.

After she switched out the ribbons I waved goodbye and the NPCs actually waved back. "What a wierd game" I found myself thinking again as a smile appeared on my face.
