[PP-F4] Don't Yell in the Mountains.. <<Avalanche>> (Shuyin, Shard)

Recommended Posts

This was the first time Dante had traveled to the fourth floor. It was a blizzardy paradise with freezing temperatures that formed the snow falling to the ground of Aincrad. he was here because he heard of a field boss that seemed like a good next challenge to try and overcome.

"I wonder where the other two are, they said they would be meeting me here." he said as he scrolled through his menu and opened his friends list.

Dante sent out private messages to Shuyin and Shard,

"Hey, I'm at the hill we agreed to meet on. It's getting rather guys!" he pushed send as he continued shivering from the temperatures he was unused to. "Well, now all I can do is wait." He said as he lowered himself and sat down on a snow-blanketed rock.

Walking out the front door of his shop, suddenly Shuyin saw a flashing light in his hud. Opening up his menu it appeared that Dante had sent him a message informing him that he was at the meeting point. Hurrying along as to not make him wait, Shuyin arrived at the hill in no time at all.

"Hey Dante" he called as he approached him "Where is shard at?

Looking around it was clear that Shard had not yet arrived at the meeting place. Utilizing the time he had why the both of them waited, Shuyin opened up his shop menu and selected an item. As it materialized in his hand, Shuyin took a minute to inspect the pretzel before eating it. It was the first item he ever crafted and it was of perfect quality. Although it had some sentimental value to him, he was going to need the boost if he was going to take on the boss. Quickly devouring the item, he looked over at Dante. "Are you hungry at all? If so I could give you some food while we wait, although it wont give you any special boosts."

Dante eyeballed the perfect looking pretzel, with the incredible blend of crunch and softness it contained; and of course that beautiful golden-brown tint that outlined the edges of it. His mouth was watering as his eyes got bigger and he finally snapped out of his trance.

"That looks good man!" he said with a laugh, "but I should be fine for now. Hopefully Shard gets here soon, I just sent him a message as well!"

He smiled and sat back down as he watched his new friend devour the perfectly crafted pretzel, and the two leaned back down and waited for Shard to arrive so they could begin the hunt for the beast Dante had heard so many rumors about.

The fringed air of the fourth floor nips Shard's exposed skin around his neck and face, his normally deep tanned skin shows a slight blush as blood is pumped to stave off frost-bite. Was he properly equipped for combat in tundra? No, probably not. His rugged cloth clothing only gave the slightest of warmth, and his iron breast-plate only served to become a block of ice on his torso. Shard looks down to his armour as he trudges through the snow, frowning as he notices icicles forming on his deep-grey armour.

Should've bit the bullet...

Shard spent the last of his Col on repairs and food for the trip, forgoing warmer equipment and teleport crystals. Shard lets loose a deep gust of steamy breath, resigning himself to the choice he made. Heck, the walk wasn't all that bad. It sure as heck sobered him up.

<<Message Received>>

Shard slows his pace, bringing a gloved hand up to open his menu to read Dante's PM. He met Dante and Shuyin just a few days ago on the first floor. There was some confusion about a young woman, a drink, a few pretzels and maybe some hurt feelings, but Shard felt like it was all more or less resolved. Closing his menu, Shard shrugs the particles of snow off himself, and keeps moving, noting on his map that he was encroaching on the meeting spot.

A crooked smile graces the man's face, part amused, part resentful. This was the first party he had joined in... months- maybe longer. Looking up into the snow white sky, Shard takes a deep breath of crisp air and grins.

It's nice to get out...

After a few minutes of walking, grumbling about the cold, and wondering why the game-devs thought it was a good idea to include inclement weather to SAO, Shard crests a small snow-dune, spotting his companions waiting in the snow eating- wait, are those pretzels?

I could go for a pretzel.

Making his way down to the two younger men, Shard raises his hand in greeting, his face stony but his eyes flash with amusement was he watches Dante inhale a pretzel.

"Enjoying that?" Shard eyes Dante with a small, crooked grin before turning to Shuyin and nodding in greeting. He didn't know these guys that well, but they seemed... good.

Dante nods in acknowledgement to Shard's arrival, he then precedes to explain that the elemental behemoth was located somewhere around this very hill, and that it wouldn't be easy to spot, "Well, if I'm correct then it should be somewhere just over there" he said pointing over to a little mountai adjacent to the slightly raised hill that they were on. "I believe it should be at the very top, but after all that won't be too high as the mountain isn't terribly large" Dante let out a big grin and equipped Drevas, his spear. He then beckoned for them to follow along and start venturing up the mountain. "If you guys are ready, let's get this started!"

Following behind Dante, Shuyin strolled, one-hand casually placed on the hilt of his rapier, and took in the environment. The fourth floor was his home, and as such he knew it very well. "Hey" Shuyin called out to both Dante and Shard. "We better keep an eye out for the smaller elemental's that roam around here, wouldn't want to go running into a whole herd of them."

Taking a look back at Shard, Shuyin began to grow a little curious about him. "So Shard, if you don't mind me asking whats your story?

Shard follows just behind both Dante and Shuyin, the dusky man keeps a steady pace, mentally going over the quest information the broker had sold him. A large field boss, some sort of Ice Elemental that appears- a larger Ice Elemental on the icy-tundra fields of the fourth floor, awoken by the cries of it's children. Or at least, that's what Shard's melodramatic info-broker told him.

I have become death, bringer of doom to Frosty the Snowman...

A hint of a smirk graces Shard's face as he internally enjoys his reference to an obscure children's character from the nineties- or was it the eighties? letting out a low snort of dissatisfaction, Shard returns to his thoughts of the Quest. Dante used a spear- meaning slightly longer range, Shuyin was a rapier user, so he would fair best in close combat, and Shard himself with is claymore was more midrange. A pretty good mix all in all. Untested, but Shard had- well has some hope in the party.

"So Shard, if you don't mind me asking, whats your story?"

Pulled form his thoughts by Shuyin's voice, Shard looks up at the young man, Shard's face a mask of disinterest and stone. Did he really want to tell his new acquaintances his story? Not exactly. It was a bit long, and a bit cold out for that. Not to mention sad to tell. They seemed like good people, but Shard wasn't sure he was ready to talk about that.

"Not much to tell. Just trying to get by, same'is everyone."

Shard hefts his sword, Fortis Gleam, higher onto his back, turning his head to the side, scanning the snowy horizon as if trying to convince everyone he was looking for mobs. Eye's squinting in the extreme white light, Shard licks his chapped lips.

"How much farther, Dante?- Do we have any idea what sort of attacks this Avalanche is throwing out? My info-broker was a bit vague on that."

Dante listened in to the conversation of his two party members keeping an equal pace steadily behind him. Cold chills flew through his body as he shivered from the blistering wind stabbing his body through his clothing as if he was wearing nothing at all. He tried to focus as the snow masked his vision and the cold snow beneath his feet distracted him from the question he just received.

"Well, it should be towards the top of this mountain, if I heard correctly from the info-broker." he said remarkingly as he looked down the side of the steep hill they had climbed, noticing how high up they really had come at this point. "AH!" Dante let out a bellowing yell, not that he was scared of heights of course, he spent many a day in his real-life childhood scaling roofs and jumping from one to another while taking part in some... hm.... 'questionable' activities. But no, this was a yell out of shock how high they had really come in such a short amount of time. Not only that, but Dante realized it would be a grave mistake for someone to lose their footing and end up sliding off at this point, with not even the slightest chance of surviving a steep height such as this.

Suddenly, snow quickly began flowing down the mountainside, almost as smoothly as a river of sand, slowly but noticeably riding its way down towards the blanketed floor below. The chunks of snow soon grew larger, and larger, getting to an almost dangerous size.

Fortunately the group had reached an indent-like platform in the mountain, with a very well sized opening should they need the space. Things were adding up in Dante's head, could this have been the Ice Elemental they were searching for? A earth-shaking roar pulsed past the group of young men and a ringing was left in Dante's eardrum. His eyes were closed and his ears covered, as he gritted his teeth and had his head faced down tucked into his chest to deafen the monstrous noise.

Breathing, grunting, hot breathe went down his back. "You know what Shuyin that's really gro-" he began to say as he looked up. His eyes met the feet of a creature, not Shard or Shuyin, his eyes slowly continued to rise. Face to face with a Ice Elemental, three times the size of any man with both towering height an massive body mass. He looked into the cold blue eyes of the creature and fastened his grip on his spear.

Dante reared back and hurled his right arm with a curdling blow towards the creatures head, bashing into the side of it as it let out another scream of pain. There was no mistake that the beast was not going to be an easy opponent. As it was hit the Elemental swang at Dante but too deafened and confused by the strike it swung for nothing and landed its fist in the ground. It hobbled backwards holding its somewhat indented head, "SHUYIN, SHARD, ATTACK QUICKLY!"

Shard watched with a focused expression, bringing Fortis Gleam to bare as Avalanche was knocked back by Dante's blow. Noticing it was stunned, Shard jumped into action, his blade glowing as a Sword Skill activates. Air explodes from Shard's lungs as he takes a step forward, Fortis Gleam glowing a deep red. His eye's go dark and squinted. It's go time.

"SHUYIN, SHARD, ATTACK QUICKLY!"

With an explosion of movement, Shard charges forward, his blade pointed forward in a stabbing motion, cutting through the air with a sick screeching whistle.

Instead of the satisfying connection Shard expected, his blade was met with the massive trunk-like arms of Avalanche, parrying his blow and sending him flying back with incredible force. Sliding backward through the snow, Shard remains on his feet- wobbly but unharmed. Glaring at the beast, Shard let's loose an explosive exhale, before sprinting back to the side l, meaning to

follow up one of his companions with a switch.

"Damn."

Watching as Shards attack failed, Shuyin felt confident about his chances against the elemental. Having made floor four his home, Shuyin had done battle with dozens of Ice Elementals while out gathering mats. Knowing that they were strong but slow, Shuyin drew his rapier and began to circle the beast, jukeing and varying his movements as he did. Watching as one of the giant fists of the elemental came crashing down beside him, he quickly jumped onto it and ran up the arm. Leaping into the air he unleashed a viscous slash upon its face before falling back to the ground."It's your turn Dante" Shuyin called out as he raised his defenses and prepared for the elemental's counter.

The avalanche turned to Shuyin enraged as it took the heavy hit from him. He roared and moved in raising his fist preparing to heave downwards. Dante quickly noticed he had a chance to strike and began moving in to attack the creature. He raised his spear and extended his right arm preparing for a disorienting jab that would crush his opponent from behind. He leaped and screamed "You're mine!"

He connected his blow just a little too late as the roaring creature smacked Shuyin in the face sent him stumbling backwards with a powerful blow.

Shard watches as Shuyin is smacked back by Avalanche, his face tight as he runs back around the side of the monster while its hate is focused on Shuyin. Seemingly skating across the snow, Shard slides into place just out of Avalanche's line of sight. His sinewy hands grip the hilt of Fortis Gleam, holding the massive blade to his side. Face focused, Shard inhales deeply, suddenly activating a sword skill, causing his blade to blow a deep orange. Taking a step forward, Shard then explodes into motion, charging towards the monster with a side strike.

Shard's two-hander impacts deep into Avalanche's side, creating a deep rift just below its right arm, causing the monster to let loose a deep bellow. Quickly retracting his blade, Shard jumps back, keeping his blade trained on the snowman.

"Keep pushing!"

Lifting himself up off the ground, Shuyin dusted the snow off from the inside of his jacket before refocusing on the task at hand. Watching as the elemental gripped its side, obviously in pain, Shuyin new he had to take advantage of this situation. Sprinting forward, he picked up momentum as he closed the distance between him and the mob. Lunging forward he drove his rapier deep into the gut of the beast before retreating back to safety. "If we can manage to keep this up, we will make short work of this creature." Shuyin said to his party members.

Gaining momentum from his party members making contact with the gargantuan beast, Dante swung around the side of Avalanche and reared back his spear with both hands. The disoriented creature's head was spinning as it was still trying to recover from the blows of the two other mens' harsh attacks. With a sweep to the legs Dante knocked the Ice Elemental almost off its feet, as it took several steps back and screamed in pain. It dove for Dante with outstretched arms but fell terribly short and rolled in the snow covered ground as it tried to pick itself back up and dust off.

"Keep going guys! He's getting weak!"

Shard watches as Dante's spear impacts the monster with incredible force, the sweep almost knocking it down. Preparing his sword skill as the beast tried and failed to counter-attack Dante, Shard inhales deeply. Once more, Shard charges forward with incredible force, his glowing two hander ripping through the air, towards his target. Dark eyes moving quickly in motion, Shard jumps up, preparing to bring his blade down hard unto Avalanche's head, but before the blade can find it's mark, Avalanche brings up it's great arm, reflecting Shard's attack to the side, causing Fortis Gleam to impact into the snow, causing an explosion of white powder.

"Sh*t!"

Shard quickly rolls back and away from the creature, before it launches a counter attack. Well that could have gone better.
