Standing barely 5'5" with a slender build with modest curves, she is sometimes mistaken for being younger than she actually is. Her large almond shaped eyes and short hair further emphasize her youthful features. With pale skin, thick black hair cut in an elegant bob cut, and lush lips; she is beautiful in a manner akin to a porcelain doll.• History •Growing up Karin was always an active child, pursuing a love of gymnastics and karate. She performed well academically, and excelled on her school teams for both gymnastics and karate. Her parents believed that she had enough talent to train for national competition, with possible goals towards representing the Country of Japan in the Olympic Games. However, these dreams were cut tragically short when she was left paralyzed from the waist down in a tragic automobile accident at the age of 15. Karin would take the loss of her active lifestyle extremely hard, entering a deep depression at her loss of mobility and independence. When she learned that a VRMMORPG was being developed for the Nervegear software, she dared to hope that she might be able to function normally again in a virtual world. When the game released, she waited with building excitement for 3 days, and was lucky enough to snag one of 10,000 copies on launch day. Rushing home to play her new purchase, she immediately dove right into the game, building a beautiful idealized avatar. her elation at taking her first steps in the digital world was incredible, and at last she felt complete again. However, when Kayaba Akihiko appeared as the massive Gamemaster in the sky, proclaiming that the world of SAO was now a Game of Death, and that they were trapped until the game could be cleared, her whimsical dream turned into a nightmare. Left shocked and betrayed, Karin found herself in an avatar resembling her own body. Her handicap status was thankfully not replicated, but her confidence was shaken to the core. However, under her horror and shock, a powerful new sense of determination was slowly beginning to grow. As she spent her first few weeks in Beginning Town, Karin slowly realized that she would not allow her fear, and the game itself, to defeat her. For so long she had felt as though she were broken beyond repair. At long last she felt complete again, able to move normally once more. She would not allow herself to fall into despair again, not when a whole new world was right before her, and she was free to explore it on her own two digital feet. So, pulling herself together, and selecting a weapon to take up in hand, Karin Maeda; no, Ayane, The Jagged Wind, resolved to play the Game of Death and live her life to the fullest. Even if she would only end up meeting her end at the hands of a monster on some namelss battlefield, it would not be the game, or her despair, that doomed her. With that decision in mind; Ayane takes her first steps into the world of SAO.• Personality •» Virtues: [*:25lzzgii] Resolute Granted a second lease on life after a horrific accident claimed her ability to walk, Tsukiko is determined to live life to the fullest, even in the Game of Death that SAO has become. She will not be cowed by circumstances, and is commited to moving forward. Having given into despair once before, Ayane is determined not to let her dire circumstances defeat her again. [*:25lzzgii] Patient A year of being confined to a wheelchair has instilled Ayane with a certain degree of patience. She is willing to wait until the opportune time for any endeavor, and abhores making rash decisions and creating vulnerabilities to be used against her. Given her tendency to not interact well with other players, leaving her as a solo player most of the time, this patience is instrumental in Ayane's survival. [*:25lzzgii] Polite Very shy by nature, Ayane is extremely polite, doing her absolute best to not offend others. Though it takes quite a bit for her to open up to other players, the few occasions she decides to be particularly vocal around those she does not know are usually brief and very much on the polite side. » Flaws: [*:25lzzgii] Indecisive With only the broad goal to live each day in the Game of Death rather than hide away in fear, Ayane is rather aimless in most regards. She has no grand plans or strategy, and instead seems to accept that she very well may die in her attempt to simply enjoy what life she can make for herself in SAO. [*:25lzzgii] Timid Ayane tends to be shy around others, taking a while to warm up to the presence of others around her. Ayane largely cut herself off from those around her after her accident, doing her best to avoid their pity out of shame. As such, she has difficulty interacting with fellow players and comes across as being extremely shy. [*:25lzzgii] Withdrawn Never having been much of a 'gamer' and having purchased SAO mainly on a whim, Ayane comes across to many as being quiet and withdrawn, not easily interacting with others on friendly terms. A year spent largely confined to herself while dealing with the consequences of her accident has left Ayane feeling disconnected from those around her.
