[SP-F2] More Challenging [COMPLETE]

Recommended Posts

Carambit had taken on boars and wolves on the first level, and had been doing so for a while now. He had decided that it wouldn't keep working for him. Now that he was level 5, in order to get loot, he had to keep chasing tougher enemies, or else the loot would not drop. This much he had learned through other players in bars, discussing their woes over a drink with friends. He had decided it was time to branch out and challenge himself to fight tougher enemies. When he was able to take on 3 wolves at once without breaking a sweat, he knew that grinding on the first floor was no longer good enough for his progression.

He had moved up to the second floor now, and decided to start taking on some tougher foes. Upon reaching the second floor he discovered it was made up of a huge forest, surrounded by gigantic mountain ranges. There were sure to be some tougher enemies hidden within the trees of the forests, and when he was confident enough fighting those, he would take on enemies up in the mountains. First however, he would take a bread roll and a water ration from his beginner's pack. He gobbled down the stale, dirt tasting bread roll and slammed back his water, trying not to choke or drown himself, but still getting it out of the way with as fast as possible. Without wasting any more time, he decided it was time to start working; the more he stood around and gobbled down food, the more light was wasting.

The brunet ran his hand through his hair and took a deep breath of the artificially natural woodland air. He drew his blade, and started walking into the woods. It wasn't long before he was able to find a large caterpillar, stuck on a large web. He approached it and raised his sword, before realizing; this isn't the real threat here...

Carambit: 13/13
Spider: 5/5

His eyes traced up the web into the treeline, at which point he spotted it slowly lowering itself down above him; a gigantic green and yellow spider, staring back at him with many gleaming red eyes. It's fangs showed themselves and it's mouth opened up, inches from his face. Carambit dove backward into a roll, as the spider's fangs clamped down on the air that now filled the place his head was just a moment ago. He stood back up on his feet and held his sword out in front of him, a barrier acting as a protective veil between him and the fearsome creature before him.

The spider lowered itself down onto the floor and broke it's web off. It hissed at him and raised it's two front limbs up into the air like pincers.

Carambit: 13/13
Spider: 5/5

Carambit lunged forward with his sword at the ready, but remained unaware of the detail that had been put into the world around him. His foot became hooked on a tree root that had extruded itself from the soil. His body hooked forward and his face met the dirt at full force. Luckily for him, this meant that the stabbing attack the spider attempted with it's forward legs missed him. Unfortunately for him, he was now face down on the ground.

The spider took a step back so that it could see him easier, and reared back again, as though trying the same attack out. Now that he knew what the bug was planning, Carambit could properly plan his next move out. He would stand up, step forward, parry the attack from the spider, and skewer it through the abdomen.

Carambit: 13/13
Spider: 2/5

And he did exactly that. Keeping his motions as fluid as possible so that he could move more naturally out of the way if something went wrong, he stepped toward the creature, and it struck at him with it's legs. He raised his sword, the broad side facing the spider, and swiped the two spearing legs out of the way, leaving a perfectly clear path toward the spider's exposed underbelly. Carambit let out a small roar as he stabbed forward with his sword, piercing through it's abdomen. The spider let out an ungodly cry and blindly swiped at the player stood under it with it's available legs.

The brunet took this as his queue to step out of the way. He pulled his blade free from the overgrown arachnid and jumped back. As he did so, it chanced another snap at him with it's fangs, but fell just a few hairs short of his face. Carambit swung his sword down toward the ground, and took a couple of breaths to recover from the ordeal. "Whew, you don't go down easy do you, spidey?" to which it hissed in reply. "You look like you're in an awful lot of pain..." he raised his sword and lowered his stance. "Let's see if we can't fix that for you..."

Carambit: 13/13
Spider 2/5

The confident player took a step closer to the monster, but was surprised when it twisted it's body to bring it's abdomen closer to him. It let a string of web fly at Carambit, and he was just slow enough with his reaction time to cop it directly in the face, blinding him and keeping him from planning an attack on it while it still recovered. He grabbed at it with his left hand and pulled enough of it free to make an air-hole for himself to breathe through. The web was very tough and proved difficult to break apart. As more and more strands snapped from his pulling, he was able to free more and more space to see through. When he had removed the web completely, he discovered the spider had regained it's composure and began to approach him again, this time faster.

"That's what I'm talking about, now you're getting into it!" he taunted, tightening his grip on his weapon and charging into battle once again.

Carambit: 10/13
Spider: 2/5

Unfortunately, the spider had gotten used to his attack patterns already, and saw his plan before he did. It stepped aside and circled around him, lunging forward with it's fangs on his unprotected side, clamping down on his shoulder and releasing a nasty dose of it's venom. Carambit screamed out in pain "Aaah! You b****rd!" and swung his sword at it, so that it would release him and leap back. The spider hissed at him and prepared itself for another attack, but he would not let that happen in a hurry. That hurt like hell, and he would really rather not experience that again.

The spider lunged at him and he stepped out of it's way, allowing it to crash to the ground. It was clearly not used to this sort of fighting, and wasn't in the best shape. Carambit readied his sword with his thankfully still good arm and got ready for another attack. "Hopefully you'll go down from this one..." he tried to reassure himself.

[LD=6] (aaw... And all that effort.)

Carambit slashed at the spider's legs, cleaving them apart and sending the creature stumbling to the floor. It squirmed in the dirt, still trying to turn toward him and attack him. He decided to put an end to it, walking around to the front of it's body, and thrusting his sword downward into the head of the spider, pinning it to the ground. With a satisfying crunch, it stopped moving and exploded on his sword. The many tiny shards floated away, and a small screen read "CONGRATULATIONS!" yet again. It awarded him some experience points, but unfortunately no Col or item reward. He wasn't too worried about that after he had read the much nicer amount of experience the monster had given him compared to the creatures he was used to. This was almost enough for him to level up again, only a few points short.

Now that his shoulder felt a bit better, he would try and kill off another enemy. Looking back up he noticed the spider's web disintegrate as the spider did, releasing the giant caterpillar, which turned toward Carambit and revealed it had a mouthful of scary fangs, just as bad as the spider did. "Oh, well... That's different." he said, fairly shocked. Carambit readied his sword. "Alright then, wormy. Let's get it on."

((We're off to a good start here...))

Carmabit: 10/13
CaterKiller: 4/4

Carambit slashed at the giant caterpillar with his sword, expecting it to be a slow-moving, wriggly bug. However, he was more than surprised to find that the caterpillar had a remarkable reaction time. It weaved and bobbed around his swipes and occasionally attempted to take a bite out of him itself. Luckily enough for him, he was growing faster too, and was able to step out of it's way.

He took a few steps back to distance himself from his foe, so that he could work out a different approach. "This is no good. At this rate, we'll be here forever. This guy is just as tough as that spider was..." he began to encircle his foe. "Or at least, it's about as fast as the other one was..."

Carambit: 10/13
CaterKiller: 4/4

He decided to step forth and try for a few more attacks. The giant insect twisted and squirmed around his blade, causing him to miss each and every stab and jab he tried to place. It seemed like every time he attempted to kill it, he was outdone... He had to try looking for a different approach. If he kept trying to fight this thing like he fought the wolves then he would be here for days. "Why won't you just die?!" he yelled at the enemy in frustration. He slashed once more at the creatures fang-filled mouth, causing it to pull back away from him.

Carambit was huffing and puffing for breath at this point. This was exhausting, and he was growing less and less fond of this idea with each attempt. Maybe he was still too under leveled? Maybe he needed to be a higher level to just hit these enemies... Regardless, it wouldn't stop him from trying. He raised his sword for another attack.

((really now?))

Carambit: 10/13
CaterKiller: 4/4

The player swung downward, not even charging a sword skill, and just going with the flow of the fight. His instincts were guiding his combat at this stage, and not the game. Carambit just wanted to hit it once! He swung wildly as fast and as much as he could, barely keeping track of where he was on the battlefield. The huge caterpillar chomped at him and tried on several occasions to engulf his sword arm with it's huge mouth. Carambit was quick enough to jump back just in time and pull away from it's attacks, but this battle still wasn't going the way he had envisioned it. He was certain before that he would have killed it by now and moved on.

"You'd better have something good on you buggy, or I'm gonna be pissed!" he took another missing swipe at the enemy "I'd better not be doing this for nothing!"

CaterKiller: 4/4

The bug had had an equal amount of this fight, and wanted it to be over too. It darted forward faster than it had been moving up until this point, and clamped down on Carambit's sword arm with it's huge fanged mouth. He let out a grunt of pain before swinging a punch at it with his free left arm. It wasn't enough to damage the creature, but was just enough to shake it free. "If you're that hungry let's feed you some pain!" he yelled angrily. The brunet was quite over getting bitten so much on this floor, and was keen to finish this battle.

He stepped back to get some distance, and leapt forward, raising his sword above his head, the blade engulfed a radiant blue light. He had activated a sword skill by readying his sword in just the right way.

Carambit: 9/13
CaterKiller: 2/4

He slashed downward, leaving a large red gash running down the top of the monster's head. It wailed and screeched in pain as it flailed it's whole body left and right. After landing on the ground, Carambit began to run around the back of the creature. If he could flank it while it wasn't paying attention, then he could finally put an end to this encounter. He found an opening at it's back and moved in for another strike, but as he did, the rear end of the bug reared up and revealed another head, with a very similar set of fangs that lunged toward him, obstructing his path.

"Wha-" he was able to get out as he jumped back as far as he could "What the hell? Who makes a bug with two heads?! What nightmarish hell is this?!"

Carambit: 15/15 (level up)
CaterKiller: -1/4 (wekt.)

He needed to put an end to this. This nightmarish thing had to be sent back to whatever hell it came from, and Carambit was just the person to do it. He tried his flanking tactic again, but this time put a spin on it. He stopped part way through his maneuver and charged in, slashing the creature straight down the middle, and splitting it in two. The mouths on both of it's heads open wide and screeched before both halves burst into blue-green shards.

Carambit wiped the sweat from his brow "Whew, you put up quite a fight." he gazed up to his health bar to see it shoot back up to full, an indication that he had leveled up. The small CONGRATULATIONS screen appeared before him yet again, revealing that he had earned experience, but no other reward. He was frustrated at this, but at least he was level 6 now, and had more hitpoints to work with. Maybe this grinding session wouldn't be so bad after all.

After wading through the thick forest for a while Carambit began to wonder why more people didn't come here to train. The majority of people he'd seen were still hanging around in the Starting Town and not many were out in the field training up their character and grinding some levels out. This was made to be an MMO, and you would think that more people would be off doing that. Looking around here, he hadn't seen another player since he left the main town of this floor. He decided it was best to just ignore the fact that he couldn't find other players, and just keep doing his thing for now. There would be plenty more chances to help others level and level up together, so until then he would just keep making himself stronger.

It wasn't much longer before he happened upon a large lizard that was facing the other direction. It had scaly green skin and a row of spines running down the length of it's back. It wasn't huge, but it was about as big as Carambit was, so he decided it could potentially be quite dangerous. He drew his sword and got ready for an attack.

Carambit: 15/15
Lizard: 4/4

He lunged forward at the lizard with his sword, hoping to pierce it's hide and claim another easy victory, but unfortunately, Carambit's sword glanced off of the beast's scales, alerting it of his presence. It turned to him and hissed angrily, shifting it's whole body to face him. He stood still for a few moments before deciding he should step back. The lizard bore it's many sharp teeth and hissed again as it started to slowly approach him.

"... I agree, that was rude..." he tried to reason with it as he continued to back up "My apologies... You should like... Totally go back to sleeping now." he attempted to convince the beast to ignore him, but to no avail. It began to grow closer to him, thumping it's big, scaly feet on the forest floor, crushing loose twigs and dead leaves between it's toes.

Carambit: 13/15
Lizard: 1/4

The beast jolted forward and clamped down on his leg with it's massive jaws. Carambit winced in pain before lifting his sword up above his head. "That's not very polite, mister lizard!" he growled as he brought down the sword and stabbed deep into the lizard's back. His scaly foe released him and wailed in pain, before turning around to take a few steps away. As it did so however, it whipped it's tail around and knocked Carambit's footing out from beneath him, leaving him lying sideways on the forest floor.

Carambit blew a leaf from his face and picked his sword back up. The lizard turned back toward him after taking a moment to recuperate, and began to advance on him once again. Carambit readied another sword skill. "Come on then, buddy. Let's go again."

Carambit: 13/15
Lizard: 1/4

The lizard hissed and ran for Carambit again, it's mouth wide open, ready to crush his skull within the grasp of it's many pointy teeth. He reacted by raising his sword and treating it as a barrier between him and the lizard, jamming the blade between the teeth at the back of it's mouth, forcing it's jaw to stay open. His head was now inside the monster's mouth, but it couldn't close it with his sword in the way, so for now he was safe. The creature would have to disengage him and wait for another opportunity.

Which is exactly what it did, it pulled away from him, releasing Carambit's sword from it's jaw and also releasing his head in doing so. He hopped back up to his feet, and turned back around to face the monster. "That was a close one... You almost had a good feed there." he smirked. "I won't be letting that happen again anytime soon..."

Carambit began to charge toward the creature, his sword raised by his side. It's blade glowed bright blue and he would make sure to kill this thing and be done with it. The swordsman swung his weapon across the monster's face with all of his might, slicing it's head open across it's eyes, easily dealing enough damage to finish it off. The lizard exploded into shards and a text box showed Carambit his winnings. Perhaps fighting monsters in this area would work out in his favor after all. He feared though, that in order to get anything decent out of it he would have to fight tougher things.

After some more searching Carambit happened upon two more lizards in a more open area. "Yes. Finally." he said, after examining them more closely. They had much longer health bars than the previous enemies had. This would be a very interesting fight. To maximize his efficiency however, he thought it best not to attack both at once. The player had visions of horror movie scenes with alligators ripping people apart, and decided that diving into that situation as a volunteer would prove to be detrimental to his health.

Carambit picked up a stone and held it beside his head, preparing to throw it. He cast the stone and it collided with the rear flank of one of the lizards. It spun around and hissed, but was confused when it saw nobody there. Carambit waved it over to his position, safely standing behind a tree. The lizard glared at him and let out a low hiss before slowly edging toward him. Once it was around the tree and out of sight of the other lizard, Carambit could launch his attack.

Carambit: 11/15
Lizard: 8/8

Much to his dismay, Carambit focused on the wrong thing. Rather than apply his focus on the enemy before him, he should have been keeping a keener eye on the environment around him. He stepped back to have his foot collide with a rock, resulting in Carambit lying flat on his back with this large wingless dragon approaching him at a now alarming rate. "Goodbye legs," he said "it was nice knowing you."

He could not recover in time. The creature clamped down with it's giant teeth on his right leg, engulfing it to the knee. Carambit suddenly gathered the energy to sit upright, and promptly did so, pulling his sword up with him. He struck the beast's eye with the butt of his sword, causing it to hiss at him and release his leg. As it backed up away from him, it continued to hiss, and he stood back up to his feet. "Okay then. Time to get some revenge for my legs."
