[SP-F4] The Crystal Cavern, Lindow's Destructive Force!

Recommended Posts

As he was teleported to the fourth floor of Aincrad, Lindow noticed a vast amount of snow in the area and the thinning of players. It didn't seem many players ventured this far up, or at least the small fry such as himself. However, while taking up the challenge of fighting some snow monsters Lindow was not going to do anything crazy with his hunt today. It would be enough to just gave a decent amount of materials for himself and the smiths in crafting some armor, weapons and possibly an accessory or two. The way he saw it, there was a few applicable builds he could go with his stature. Being a two handed swordsman, he could go full DPS; but the luck of the draw was not much on his side. If he could overcome that weakness with accuracy items, he will be a decent damage dealer but he would be able to hit often, this build would be accompanied with decent light armor. His second build would be a more sturdy tank. He'll have to toss in a skill points to use for accessing another weapon tree, but he'll be taking a shield with him as well for the damage mitigation, this will accompany the heavy armor and shield skills. He had it out laid out in his mind, but right now, the hunt for materials is what was needed. A week on the fourth floor should do the trick. He surmised he will need about thirty to forty mats, that should be done within his time frame and plus the extra levels.

As he was traversing the city, he felt the bitter cold against his clothing and the cold wind that passed by. He shivered only lightly, but this weather was not so bad, it was more or less all in his head. With his arms at his side, he began his short journey towards some monsters.

As he was coming out of the safe zone, he uplifted the heavy two handed sword from his back and produced it with much care. The blade was worn and has seen its fair share of battles until recently, but it has proved him a valuable asset none the less. The monsters didn't seem to appear often here, in fact he noticed very few spawns. Finding an open area, there wasn't anything in sight. He cursed lightly under his breath, perhaps he should have sought out a different floor for his expedition. He swung his mighty blade around and crashed into the earth's surface, there was a rumble to the land and a monster spawned before him. A white snow wolf as it appeared to be its name.

"Alright, Mr.Wolf. Nothing personal, but I need your hide. Let's get things started!" The snow wolf charged him with a howl and skittered across the snow bank as it leapt at the swordsman, easily able to dodge the incoming attack, Lindow used both hands on the hilt of the sword and slashed at the beast before it came to a thudding stop. It slid for a moment on its side and barked and growled at him.

The snow wolf blended well in the snow giving it a slight tactical advantage while Lindow was sticking out like a sore thumb in his black leather garb. He moved on his feet slowly as he could see the darkness in the wolf's eyes. There was another head on charge, leaping once more with ferocity trying to take a swipe out of his HP. Lindow felt the swiftness of the strike placed on his body as he was mowed over by the Snow Wolf, its claws struck him in the chest as he was pushed over and fell into the snow. Getting up with a hurry, the two handed swordsman hefted the heavy blade over his shoulder and slammed it into the backside of the monster to take revenge on his last hit. The wolf howled with pain and backed away slightly bearing its teeth at the traveler.

There was blood mixed with the tattered leather of his body from the recent attack. Lindow was no stranger to danger, but he was keeping his cool about it. This was nothing, a wolf showed no difficulty for him as he had the upper hand, sure the Snow Wolf managed to creep a critical on him, but it wasn't going to bring down the morale of the highly destructive force of the two handed swordsman. Shifting his feet into stance, Lindow brought his blade back...this next strike he would attempt to take out the beast's legs and perhaps slow his strides. The wolf barked with saliva dripping from it's fangs, Lindow readied for the next attack as the wolf charged.

"No mercy!"

The snow wolf, despite its great speed missed Lindow by a long shot. The creature slid as it landed in the snow and twisted back to see Lindow. However it was too late, Lin had brought his sword down and slashed the beast as he had predicted across its hide. The creature gave a terrible moan of pain and howled with aggressive intent. Limping from the injury it got back up steadily, the damage being shown visually as its HP bar was depleting. The swordsman was having good luck with this weapon, being a starter and all. He has been very fortunate to be using such a blade right now as its helping with the greatness of his hunt. Twisting around and gripping his blade, he was ready for the next assault by the injured Snow Wolf.

The wolf charged once more at Lindow, there was more swiftness in his stride as the fangs were bearing down on Lindow threatening to take a chunk of his life. He shoved the creature off without damage and they each came out of that scuffle with no loss to their health. The wolf backed up and reinitiated its attack pattern.

Snap! Snap! The saliva filled mouth of the beast intensified as it snapped its jaws at Lindow fromt he previous tussle. The translucent liquid falling into the snow as it was angered by this commoner in its territory, but none the less, he would not allow Wolfie here to escape under any pretense. Readying his blade and understanding the pattern of the wolf, a leaping charge was next. If he could maintain his current stride of battle, this little fight would be over in two to three rounds. Hefting his blade, he waited for the charge of the Snow Wolf and on cue it game volting towards him and using its powerful hind legs to take to the air. The blade of the massive sword missed its target and the wolf had done the same trading no damage to either one of them. Lindow grunted, two misses in a row. He was lucky that the mob had been missing as well.

"Come on, two more rounds...I can finish this..."

The Snow Wolf clawed the ground as it as ready for its next strike. After trading hits, there was no damage from the outcome, both blows had missed by a good margin. Lindow's eyes narrowed at the beast as they stalked each other moving slowly one foot over the other and holding his massive blade upright in his hands. The creature snarled a vicious snarl at him and charged for its next brutal assault. His cold colored eyes opened wide, there was a spot to attack in the creature's defense. As the wolf came in for the strike, Lindow leaned in with his blade to take a chunk of HP in the process. The strike was enough to fatally wound the creature doing a massive crit. The bloodied wolf staggered to its feet as it slowly got up, his snarls turned to whimpers as it moved slowly into position.

The beast looked pathetic as Lindow stood up erect, the monster was clearly defeated at this point with only a little HP left. The next strike would finish it off. However the wolf seemed to be growing with renewed vigor as it gave a loud howl. The battle cry to turn things around for it. Lindow would have to finish this quickly, perhaps that howl was a cry of aid for its pack. Gritting his teeth, he made way towards the injured beast. The Snow Wolf growled, it would not back down to this human hunter. The swiftness of the creature was mediocre at best, the charge taking much longer before it could actually reach its top speed but in that moment both the player Lindow and the wolf missed their target and landed side by side each other for close range combat. There was no trade off of damage from one another and Lindow had to go another round with this beast.

It moved even slower now, it's bloody hide unable camouflage itself in the snow banks as Lindow circled the beast. It have a menacing yap as it licked its chops as if trying to look aggressive to its hunter, but Lindow knew this dog was on its last legs of health. As he hefted his starting blade up over his shoulder the dangerous Wolf started its threatening stride to the swordsman. Once more with both hands, Lindow came down to strike the beast before he himself could take any damage. The thick blade came down with a destructive force and ended up hitting a snow bank and missing the target. On a positive note, the wolf didn't even manage to slash back at Lindow causing no damage once again in the trade off of attacks.

Lindow held the mighty sword in one hand and scratched his chin, "Being elusive. eh? You need to stop wasting my time..."

As Lindow had his sword lowered, the dangerous mob took notice and found him relaxing and took advantage of his stance. Unable to react quick enough, Lindow was bowled over by the beast as it teared and clawed at it's leather tunic. Lindow fought the beast off, his sword falling out of his hand as he struggled with the grappling creature. The hot breath and the saliva dripping over him as it snapped and tore into his flesh. He could feel the trace amounts of pain as he finally flung the beast off of him, heaving and panting and reaching for his sword. The Wolf made no hesitation to stop, its ferocity growing now even though it could die any moment. Lindow gathered his blade in one hand and got up to his feet, he would not back down from this creature after that and he would not relax further until this thing was mounted on a wall!

Growling at Lindow, the beast still had fight left in it. He shook his peppered hair with his hand after taking many claw strikes to his leather tunic. Deep crimson scratches littered his chest as he looked down. He spread his feet apart and would not take this kindly. His eyes narrowed and he gripped the hilt of his worn blade in his hands, front and center. One more attack, that's all he needed and he would be done with this creature. Then it came like the swiftness of the wind, the howling and bloody beast set forth its next attack in its cycle and charged for Lindow, upon its hind legs it sprang towards him. He cocked his blade behind him and got ready to swing. As the creature sprang at him, Lindow was snagged by the mighty jaws of the Snow Wolf, its teeth sunk into the flesh of his shoulder and material and snapped a chunk of his HP before using its hind legs to leap off his body. Staggering and feeling the warm trickle of his blood, Lindow pressed his sword to the ground and was unable to get a clear strike using only one hand. He backed away slowly, and bore down on the wound with one hand.

It was four straight misses now and he grit his teeth, the tide of the battle going towards the Snow Wolf in favor. He was stuck by a critical blow and it caused his body to slump and become slightly ragged. He huffed and puffed getting air into his lungs as he fell to one knee. The Snow Wolf delighted in the last attack as it circled him once more ready to pounce and strike, "I can't believe I am being out done by a Wolf. Ugh!" he slammed his blade into the ground and heaved himself up and back to his feet. Swinging the blade around to his back side he focused his mind and started to look for an escape route just in case things would get messy. Already down to only a handful of HP left, this fight was not going to last much longer. And he would not be forced down on his knees again. The swordsman circled to the right, keeping his eyes on the defiant nature of the bloody beast. He could make a run for it if he had to, there was no swarm of mobs in the area and he could make it back to the village without much difficulty. The wolf charged, yet it staggered and almost falling down while it charged. The bloody wolf leaned in for the attack and missed, Lindow raised his blade for a perfect strike and took the beast out with one massive slash upon its skull. The creature was then laid to rest dispelling into nothingness. Lindow fell on his butt and sighed, seeing he had recently leveled up after the fight.

"Go me..." he sighed falling into a snow bank.

"Definitely going to take a small breather here." he said looking up into the sky. Yeah, that was a little close for comfort for our traveling swordsman. Lindow had barely made it out of that battle alive, but the luck of the first few strikes were what he needed to end the battle. Lindow got up, his entire back covered in snow as he got back to his feet padding it off with his hands. He moved north as he continued his adventure coming up to a frozen pond with a sign covered in snow.

Fishing Spot! Cold, fresh, fish!

Lindow nodded in approval as he set up a small campsite right here and decided to try and catch some bait material for his Trade. Smoothing the surface he found a spot where he could search for bait material and sent down a modified mat gatherer into the depths of the frozen pond, "The ores was one thing, but catching some bait couldn't be too difficult could it?"

Lindow brought up his line...and there was nothing on his material gathering pole. He cocked his head to the left and felt like roaring out in frustration. Perhaps he needed to make a bigger hole in the frozen pond to get some real material flowing. He stood up and used his foot to crash into the frozen pond, chunks of the ice drifted off and made the hole larger than it was. He had almost slipped into the cold waters himself as he backed away, his eyes beaming once more as he sat down and lowered net to catch some fresh bait. His eyes wandered around to see if anyone else was out here. It was a pretty desolate area he was at. He would give this pond one more try before catering off and going into one of those ore caves he heard about here. Perhaps he could find a beast to battle as well as his HP was recharged after the recent level up.

He heaved up his net and looked inside, a nightcrawler and a worm out of that little five minute recess of looking for fishing mats. He sighed, it was better than nothing. He set the items into his inventory and stood once more dusting the fallen snow off his clothes. There was an ore cave not far from here that he had spot before doing his material such in the pond. His eyes set for the destination and his feet followed going into a crystal cavern. He moved with a steady pace and found many mining nodes that were thick on the walls. Lindow got his trusty pickaxe out and smashed into the wall breaking apart a piece of ore. He examined the crystal and nodded with approval, the next chunk of rock didn't seem to come close to the quality of the material he needed.

As he moved deeper into the cavern, he came across a crystal fiend that was eating the ores off the walls. He studied the creature without disturbing its meal. The fiend had a reflective crystal like surface as a body, two beady red eyes and a one heck of an appetite for ores. Lindow was not going to allow this crystal fiend to make off with digesting his ores so he brandished his weapon and got ready for the upcoming battle.

Lindow shouted, "Hey! I need those ores. Go find something else to eat!" The Crystal Fiend ducked its head and narrowed its beady eyes at him as Lindow produced his massive blade, "Nu-uh. I'm gutting you like a fish for that material you just ate, buddy."

The fiend growled at him devilishly and charged at him with a shiny fist. The impish looking creature charged full swing and struck a passive blow against Lindow but effortlessly dodged out of the way, but the incoming slice of his blade came bearing down on the creature and rattling its body free of ore.

The face off left the creature battered slightly but still showing some ferocity. Lindow gathered the might of his blade over his shoulder and was ready to strike once more. The Crystal Fiend started for its next attack, the humanoid bound to the left and right in a zig zag pattern towards the swordsman as he uplifted his broad blade over his head. He followed the creature closely with narrowing eyes but not closely enough, his blade came down crashing into the cavern but miss his foe. As he turned the zig zagging fiend came in close and whalloped the swordsman against his jaw jarring him from his position.

Feeling the brunt of a blunt blow of the fists, Lindow twisted his hands to remove the blade edge from the sharp rock where he smashed into it. That was a grave mistake on his part as he miscalculated the speed of the Crystal Fiend. The creature laughed and pointed, mocking him like a jokester. Lindow turned a quarter and brought his blade back. He would only strike now when the opportunity showed itself, he would try not to let this slippery fiend get the best of him. With his mighty blade ready to strike at a moments notice, the Crystal Fiend once more bound towards him, his little fists reaching up and punching him smack dab in the jaw once more. While the blow connected against Lindow, the fiend was on the receiving end of his mighty sword. There was a clash as ores from the body of the fiend shattered against the floor from the last attack, injuring the creature once again.

The knockback of the creature felt the cold steel of the mighty blade as he heaved it over his shoulders once more. Lindow grunted as he brought it back down and swung it over his other shoulder, there was still a glimpse of pain over the right side of his jaw. Was this creature attacking him there on purpose? Lindow released one hand from the grip of his blade as he moved it towards his jaw where he was struck previously. He titled his neck and popped it with one go as he was ready for the next round with the Crystal Fiend. Eyes set on the imp, Lindow got into stance spreading his feet apart. The imp came in with a swatting action with both fists, curious Lindow drove one foot over the other and side stepped the attack and while the fiend had its back turned to him, he thrust the blade at the center of his body and made a massive crack down the line of its spine. The creature fell over with pain as it slid on the ground towards a wall. Lindow didn't think it the creature would do such a weird little maneuver to him, but that was how it went.

The Crystal Fiend got up once more and shifted its weight back to its legs as it turned around, there was something of a smile on its face as it produced and materialized a massive crystal stone in its hands. Lindow was confused, surely a rock that big would deal some serious damage...but was it gonna to really launch that big boulder at him? And surely enough the Trickster Fiend leaned back and tossed the weighty instrument of destruction towards Lindow. He deflected the blow with his massive blade and shook his head, but the blow had rattled his arms and he almost dropped to his knee from the shockwave.

"Well, there is a first for everything..." Lindow said getting the feeling back in his hands after that.
