[SP-F1] <<Earning A Living>> A Man and His Pole (COMPLETE)

Recommended Posts

The town was in its usual bustle on this day that Lee himself decided that wandering town to town with no other reason besides just that was becoming dull. Today, he found that he wished for something more, something that would help him progress in the game, something that would be a means of income, something that he wasn't truly sure how to get. The armored man came to a stop in the midst of his walk in order to look around himself. When he had accompanied Piera on her quest, all she had to do was find an Alchemist. He wasn't at all sure what it was he wanted to do but he knew that since she was that, he didn't really want to follow in the same field though, peddling out of the same shop would have its positives....as well as negatives but it aside, he already decided against it.

He raised a hand to his scuffled chin would would ponder for a moment. Being a blacksmith would surely come in handy but at the very same time, he knew a few people who were which meant that they were not in short supply. Being a cook might be nice but then he remembered his own skill in the world of the living and it caused him to shut that off quickly. Tailor didn't sound too bad and it was surely a possibility. He wasn't entirely sure what an artisan did so he would simply push it from his mind as soon as it had appeared. One that appealed to him more than the others was that of a merchant. Being able to sale wares and buy them was an all too enticing idea.

It was in the middle of this thought that he had forgotten he had began walking once more and had ended up close to the edge of town where he was sure not to find much of anything, much less a job. It was then that he saw something that brought back fond memories. A fishing pole. Leaning against a wall of a shack next to a stand with fish of many different colors, shapes and sizes. Lee ate fish but he never could see anything other than sport if the fish itself wasn't already cooked. He remembered his childhood and how he enjoyed just sitting by his uncles boathouse and fishing for whatever would bite the hook. It was then that, be it being in the moment or rash thinking but he decided right then and there. He, Was to be a fisherman!

Lee began to wonder of the fishing profession and how he could laze about during the majority of the day simply sitting there waiting for something to bite. But as he continued to look everything over, it was then the thought that for the most part, fish alone was a selected taste and he would simply have to do it for more sport than anything else and while that was all good and dandy, what if he did want to put some time and effort into the job? The thought of running a shop was annoying and such a drag though it was a source of money.

It was for that reason that he gave way to pause and looked around and found a small thought. Everyone sold something in shops. Sold things. A merchant was something everyone needed. Someone that could be invaluable. Invaluable was something that appealed to Lee on a more arrogant level. There was a sudden bump against his back as a man, more over an NPC would approach him "Excuse me, are you looking for something specific?" Lee would blink several times as he would let his eyes bring themselves to the small shack of a stand close by that seemed to sell all sorts of things but mostly small bits and bobbles.

"Actually, yes, yes I am. What would one have to do in order to do what you do? Sell stuff I mean. Sell a variety of things. Become a merchant. What do I have to do to do that?" The merchant NPC seemed delighted at the idea.

The merchant was more than pleased at the thought simply that one wished to accept his job. He was an NPC of course so to be happy about anything else would surely be absurd. The more Lee had dwelled on the idea, the more he began to like it. It was a simple job and it was one that wasn't really in high demand so him being pestered daily and constantly like that of an alchemist that he knew wouldn't be a problem. He wasn't even looking for anything to actually gain in the job area of the game. It was something more to pass the time than anything else.

The merchant would begin to speak "You will have to find a particular kind of wood in order to actually call yourself a merchant to be used in your first item." Lee waited for a moment....and then two more before speaking up "...And?" The NPC would reply in kind "And what? The life of a novice merchant is a meager and simple one. You find a suitable branch for your work and bring it here to be made into your item. Off you go." Lee was then literally brushed out the door of the shack before he could actually assess what he was told. "Well...I'll be damned."

Lee made his way out of the town with the sole purpose of finding himself a stick, no, a pole that would be made for a king...if a king wished for a pole for whatever reason. His main objective was simply to find the best one that he could find and deem the 'best'. He wouldn't really be all that worried about the outside of the town as he figured that while he might not be the strongest in terms of strength, he figured that he would be able to outlast most creatures on the first floor with little effort against him personally. He had taken note of the changes of his person and he was...on the fence with them all but in the end, it was his items that held most the work and it was time for him to do the same.

He was out in the field scanning in the direction of the majority of trees in order to find his selected item but so far, he was finding nothing of actual note at all as it seemed there wasn't any fallen limbs or branches close to being grabbed near him so he would have to continue his search.

Lee would continue his search of what he would deem a worthy stick for his first item. It was something that he finding a bit more of a hassle than he first assumed it to be. He thought that finding something suitable would suffice shortly after entering the outside but he wasn't as lucky as he first thought himself to be. Though he wasn't all that put down about it and figured that he would find one eventually. He let his eyes scan what was around him and found that most of the branches were either too thin or had some sort of imperfection and just would not do. He thought he found one and was quick to grab it at the base of a tree but as he lifted it, it was so curbed and warped that it almost formed a complete circle and touched his hand to which he would simply release it from his grip to let it fall to the ground as he let out a sigh and would continue his search.

The thought of becoming a merchant continued to be fresh in his mind. Lee thought more about this as he continued to search for just what he needed as the wood would surely be used in some sort of ornate object or ornament but it was something to be decided at the end of the quest. He would also have to think about a shop name and just where he would place it. He didn't want to do what most people did and wasn't in any way, shape or form aiming to put himself out there. It was something he actually would like most people to forget or not even take note of in the first place. In the middle of his thought, he spotted what looked like a durable piece of wood but as he picked it up, while it was a workable piece, it wasn't what he was looking for and while a lesser man would take it and be done, he wasn't....at least, not at the moment and he was set on the perfect item and with that, he would throw the stick over his shoulder and continue on.

Lee continued to scavenge across the landscape, looking under whatever tree or bush he came across, aiming to find something that was in his own mind, perfect. He actually find another branch that was increasingly better in terms of overall look compared to the one he had just found. While he had the very same thoughts as he had with the other, he took the same route and with a swift motion, let the piece of wood fly over his shoulder to fall somewhere behind him as he would let out an elongated sigh. He then began to think of why he didn't get someone else to come with him. He wasn't much of a solo party person and it was ungodly boring just wondering around by himself. He wasn't sure how some players did it. Grinding, yes but to actually take a quest by one's self just seemed maddening and he was sure how it could be done.

Lee would peek behind a tree and look across the ground in order to find something of a more malleable quality. Though, luck was not on his side as he reach down to pick up a stick that was of a lower quality of what he had been finding as of late. He would simply drop it where he had found it and pulled himself back up into a standing posture. He would scratch the back of his head and look around for the next location where he would continue his search. This was actually starting to become quite the hassle but he wasn't about to give up just yet and had that spark of determination that would refuse to go out just yet.

Lee began to wonder just what kind of profession he was getting himself into. He had already looked at each of the positives and the negatives and wasn't entirely sure about much of anythings when it came to jobs. He already knew that whatever it was that he picked, he was going to do it halfassed. He wasn't aiming for any great title or to establish himself as an above average person when it came to the title. He just wanted the title itself and the possibility of it growing on his own watch and no one else. He would kick a stick on the ground that he was coming across, no need in picking it up as he could tell it was not to his standards.

Where would he put his shop? That was another question that had presented itself inside of Lee's mind after a bit of wandering. He didn't want to have it too out of the way and he wasn't even sure if he wanted it to be a building at all. He felt that it may seem to inviting if it was anything of normal size and it was then that he had a small thought. What if he had it near Piera's own shop? Behind it maybe? No one that wasn't looking for it would ever know it was there and that could be a very good thing. He would kick a nearby hunk of wood as if to move it out of the path he was walking.

He would then begin to wonder just what sort of stipulations came with a shop. He wondered if he would be able to store things in it that were not shop related or if it would be the same as simply dropping it outside. It would be nice but it was not something that he had in mind as a need as he wasn't sure that was how shops worked. He did wonder just how buying and selling would go and he hoped that when he actually got the title that he would also get a tutorial on just how to do his job. Another pile of sticks would catch his eye and after shifting through it, he still found nothing of note or worth and he continued to walk on.

What if he took the upstairs of Piera's shop? She rarely used it and it is where he usually spent most of his time while she was doing her alchemist thing anyway. It would serve them both fairly well as he could still help her in his down time as he did and he would take the small space. Though, it was more on if the game itself could or would allow such a thing. He wasn't quite sure how one get's a shop in the first place. Do they simply get an area and just 'go-wild' option? Or was it just a 'this-house; these decorations' sorta deal. It was then that he thought he should have read up on this just a weeeeee bit more. He came to a light stop at the appearance of a tree which had some branches hanging lower and figured he could try searching through them and his first simply feel off the tree and was obviously bad.

Lee had reached up and took hold of a piece of wood that he didn't even really think of using and for good reason. He originally took hold of it to pull himself up into the tree but the branch itself was already bad and as soon as he put just a little bit of weight onto it, it gave way and he found himself back on the ground, feet first but on the ground no less. He held the branch in his hand and with a heavy breath, would throw it down to the ground. He would then look back up into the tree and make sure that what ever he was to grab next, it would be a more stable climb as to not have any reoccurring incidents.

Lee almost feel victim to the very same tree and a very similar piece of wood that as soon as he took hold of it and put a bit of weight on it, it snapped but this time, he simply let it fall to the ground whilst he jumped down of his own accord and took in a deep breath. He would scratch the back of his head and look around and kick the base of the tree. It was obviously a dun so he would have to find another. Lee would spot another tree not to far away in which he would start toward in wonder. He wondered just what kind of life he was leading and what kind of life he was making for Piera. He knew for the most part what he wanted to do and there wasn't much anyone else would be able to do about it. He wasn't thinking of this game as a negative one as everyone else was. He was content but he had talked to Piera about such a matter but he wondered if that had changed in any way, shape or form. Then be began to wonder how finding wood went to such a deep area.

Lee had made his stand in front of yet another tree and this one seemed better but it was only when he would start looking that he would actually know. He continued to think on the deep portions of things but would reach up into the tree and take hold of a branch carefully. He would pull on it and as it wouldn't break like the others, it was again, not what he was looking for in terms of objects nor was he entirely sure what it was a piece of wood he needed in the first place. Then again, he took that back as there was actually plenty of things, he had just been looking for these things for so long that he just kinda had wood on the brain and his thought processes were starting to become jumbled.

Lee moved up to the tree and looked up into it with just a bit more of hope than normal. He would take hold of a branch, not for examination but to move it out of the way in order to see another hunk of wood that seemed to be a better subject but as he pulled himself up to it, it wasn't what he was looking for but it was a step up from the crap he had been finding. He would keep it in mind but would more than likely not be coming back to it as it was okay at best but he wasn't looking forward to it. He was just a bit more optimistic in his adventure.

Lee had sat upon a branch in a tree for a small break but that did not mean he had stopped his search. He looked around and reached out to examine a branch but to his disappointment, it did not stand up to his standards. It was still better than  the greater majority of wood he had found prior to this but it didn't have the hidden quality he was wishing for. He needed to have something to take back that would wow anyone in terms of something so simple. Something that would need just a bit of touching up and it would surely be made into a masterpiece of a master piece. He chuckled at the play on words in his head.

He would continue his search in between the leaves and branches and would come up mostly empty handed. This once easy quest was starting to become anything but. He remembered Piera's quest and she simply have to fight some monsters and find some mushrooms and she was done. He didn't really think about it till now but he sure would actually preferred fighting monsters, it would have been far less boring that way. At least he might get some sort of fun or excitement from the event. Looking around for wood and the like was becoming quite the tiresome job and it wasn't that he wasn't finding any, he just wasn't finding the 'one' he wanted.

Lee would drop down from the tree in disappointment as he would look around yet again. He scratched his forehead and then let his thumb and index fingers run down each side of his face respectfully. A long breath would flow from his nostrils as he would then begin another trek to another set of sticks he saw just a bit behind him. He figured that me might have missed something and there was a part of him that really hoped for it, even if it was a mistake on his part. He would kick a stick along the way that was in poor shape but wasn't anywhere near the worst he had seen.

Lee continued on his way, coming across a very similar hunk of wood as the one he had just passed though it was actually in just a bit more worse shape. He made it a point to step on this one out of pure spite. He would continue and come to a halt in his rather heavy armor to look at the pile of sticks before him. Maybe he could get lucky just this once. If he did, then it would all be over and he could put this nightmare behind him though he wasn't entirely sure on this account but he still had high hopes because he had very little else at this point.
