[SP-F1] Boil and Bubble (Earning a Living) Complete

Recommended Posts

Having been in Aincrad for a little while I had heard a decent amount about players having different Professions. I was very interested since I've always been big on crafting systems in other games, so I decided to give this one's a try. I searched the guidebook on how to start crafting and found that I needed to complete a quest called 'Earning a Living'. It told me that I needed to go out and find an NPC who could train me in how to craft different items of a certain type. I figured the best place to find this person would be right outside the town of beginnings since it said that the quest was for lower lvl players. I left the inn I was staying in and made my way to the outskirts of town.

As I left the Inn I found my way through the twists and turns of the town until I was right outside where I assumed this Trainer would be. " I really need to get the hang of this town. If it's where I'm going to be for a while it is good not to get lost." I said to myself as I started looking around outside of town trying to find this guy who would help me craft. Right when I was going to stop looking and try asking some other player where he could be found I saw a strange looking man who was balding and had a large beard. He drew my eye since he had a leather apron on and looked like someone who knew a few things

As I approached him he turned to face me and I met his large smile " Hello there would you be interested In learning some profession form me today?" after he said that a window poped up asking me if I wanted to accept the quest. I tapped the Accept button and the window faded. I looked down to get a better look at him. He wore a large leather apron and different materials were peeking out of the top of his pockets. He definitely was the guy I needed to find. His thick voice interrupted my mental babble " So what craft are you interested in learning. Choose wisely, you can only choose one profession so make sure it is the one you want."

After thinking for a little and deciding which craft would be the best for me I answered the enthusiastic bald man." I was thinking you could train me to be an Alchemist." "Ahhh lots of players choose that one." He looked me up and down judging my character" Are you sure that's the one you want to choose?" I nodded my head " most definitely that is the one I liked the most, plus it is the one that works with my play style the most. "  " Okay then we best get started. I'll teach you how to make a basic health potion, one of the most practical ones for beginners."   "Okay what will I need?" He laughed ans said "Well you're an eager one aren't  you? Well what you'll need to find is a basic healing herb they tend to grow by the water. You should find a good batch of them by the pond over there." He gestured toward his left and my eyes followed to a small pond surrounded by plants " when you've gotten your materials meet me back here."

I walked over to where the pond was and began to look through the underbrush. I saw something sparkle in the weeds and tapped on the node. "Awesome a healing herb. that's pretty easy." Although I had the one the man sent me to get I had a little more time to waste so I though that I would keep looking around the pond for some more herbs. I walked around the pond searching and started to wonder to myself about  how many different types of potions there were. " I suppose there could be an infinite amount just depending on what a person wants it for.

I looked some more through the underbrush and had nothing in sight. I lost my footing and fell into the pond. "Dang it" I yelled as I fell into the water. Thankfully it wasn't too deep and I was able to easily get out of the pond. It sucks that I fell in but at least I don't have to worry about being wet too long. it was a decently sunny day here and I can dry off at a decent speed. I looked around the pond a bit more dedicated to finding some more of those healing herbs. Hopefully it won't take too long. I saw a glint in the underbrush on the other side of the pond and decided to investigate.

As I made my way around the pond to check the plants I wondered why it is so difficult to get any materials from this pond. I mean sure it should be easier since I'm in a starting zone but maybe people were just here before me. I made it to the plant I was set on and tapped it Unfortunately a window popped up saying that there were no usable materials " Well screw you too I didn't want to have you anyway" I said as I dismissed the little window that harassed me with its little text. I need to find something around here. I sat down in the grass and took a deep breath trying to calm myself.

I got Up from the grass and decided to look a little ways away from the pond because obviously there wasn't anything good around here. As I made my way along the tall grass I saw a sparkly plant and bent down to look at it. It looked promising and as I tapped it I was able to pick it up and add it to my inventory." Yeah that's more like it. See all you need to do it stay calm and good things will come to you. Happy that I now had one more plant to use I felt a little more successful in life. With my spirits raised I kept looking for more materials.

I kept looking through the plants but to my repeated disappointment I couldn't find anything of use. Frustrated now I kicked the grass and walked off a little ways from the pond to burn off some steam. I looked out around myself and saw a boar in the distance. I was going to take a break from my plant harvesting and put my blade to some good use. I drew my curved sword and made my advance on the target hopefully being able to catch the boar off guard I moved at a decently slow pace and felt a little like a cat stalking its prey. I laughed to myself at the image, it felt kinda suiting.

Once I got closer to the boar I made a run at it raising my blade high and as I got within range I swung it down with a large arc severing the boar's head right off. Without as much as a squeal from the boar it burst into pieces. I started to laugh " Okay that was awesome." After that critical I felt so amazing as the boar disintegrated in its place was a tusk. "It isn't a healing herb but It may be useful for some sort of potion. I might as well take it." I put it in My pack and made my way back toward the pond. After a brief interlude consisting of me lopping a boar's head clean off I think I can go back to herb hunting.

I made the short trek back to the pond and readied myself for some herb gathering. I looked around the pond and in the tall grass but nothing. I couldn't find a single stinking herb. " Okay all I want is one more and then I'll go back to the bald man" I pleaded with the world. " Just one more lousy plant" I kept looking but it was in vain since the only plants I could find were the tall grass and the algae that grew on top of the pond. " This is getting a bit tiring " If I don't find any soon I'm just gonna have to say screw it and head back.

I got down on my hands and knees and started to dig through the tall grass around the pond once again but it was futile. "Why is it that I can't find anymore herbs?" I got up from the ground and brushed off my knees. I decided to stop and ignore the sense of anger in my gut and decided to make my way back to the quest giver. On my way there I saw a few tufts of grass that seemed to mock me and my lack of healing herbs. " Shut it you dumb grass" I called out at the grass. As I approached the bald man he gave me a weird look but simply shook his head at me.

I ignored the mans shaking of his head and I decided that I was just gonna cut to the chase " So I got the herbs you said I needed. What now?" He saw my demeanor and decided to just keep it strictly business. " Well you need to follow me and I'll take you to an alchemy table" "sounds like a plan. Lead the way." He headed to a small building that was full of all different crafting stations. there was a forge, a cooking fire, a tailor's work bench, and what I was interested in. He brought me up to the Alchemist table and began to give me an explanation of what I needed to do.

The trainer looked at me and said "What you need to do is take one of your materials and go up to the crafting table. You use your material to open up your crafting menu and then it will let you choose your desired potion."  I did as he instructed. I opened my menu and selected one of the healing herbs that I gathered and used it at the alchemy station. A window popped up just like he had said and a list of potions hovered in front of me. Starting off with a basic hp potion like he told me to I chose it from the list and hit craft. It then led to another prompt validating my choice after I chose accept I then waited for the the result. "Dang it!" I said as a bubble flashed above the newly crafted material. it said 'Bad Item' "I get a cruddy potion and I wasted a material. How fun" I said dripping with sarcasm. I Gave the trainer a disapproving look and he prompted me to try again. I discarded the potion and took a deep breath to ready myself to try again.

Still slightly stressed from the  failure of my first craft I calmed myself and then went back into my inventory I selected my other healing herb. " Okay you can do this it's not that difficult. All you need to do is make a simple health potion. It shouldn't be this complicated" I used the healing herb on the alchemy table and a menu popped up like my previous crafting attempt. I selected 'Health Potion' and tapped the confirm crafting icon. I waited for the crafting to complete however it popped up with a little bubble that said 'Failure'. " Well yippee two unsuccessful crafting attempts. Also there goes both my healing herbs

The trainer looked at me and a look that was a mix of amusement and sorrow grew on his face. "It's okay my boy. Don't worry there is a reason why you are a beginner. But don't worry you'll get the hang of it." I looked up from the table and turned my attention to him. "So I passed the test? Can I be an alchemist? Even though my potions were less than great?" I said hopefully, the frustration fading from my face. "Of course you are. See it's called a proffesion since you must work hard to get better." He began to laugh. "If you are willing to put In the time and effort I can issue you the title of Beginner Alchemist."  Eagerly I replied "Of course sir! I can definitely put in the work. I will be a Grandmaster Alchemist, it will just take a little time." With an air of approval."Okay Coddexx if you want me to issue you the title, bring me back three more crafting materials to prove your determination."  "Sounds like a plan. I will be back when I get those herbs."

So I was off and determined that I was going to prove to this trainer that I meant business and was going to earn the title of Beginner alchemist, and eventually Grand master. I left the crafting hall and found my way back to the pond outside the town. There seemed to be more plants that had spawned around the circumference of the water and I felt as if I was going to be quite lucky at finding there herbs and make my way back to him with haste. Yet unfortunately when I got closer to the pond I didn't find anything of use and needed to look harder.

As I looked through all the herbs there was no luck and I was unable to find anything of use. I decided that it might be beneficial to look toward the other end of the pond so I made my way around it, carefully this time trying to be careful not to fall in this time. " Come on you've got this. If you stay focused on the task at hand you'll find the materials in no time" I told myself as I looked deeper through the tall grass that grew near the edge of the water.

I looked through the tall grass trying to find one of the nodes or some sort of crafting material that I could use. Yet once again to my annoyance there was not a plant that was of any use to me and my spirits began to fall. Then I got a pretty good idea. The trainer said that I needed to gather crafting materials for potions. He didn't tell me that I needed to only gather healing herbs. I think I could go out and kill a few boar and use the tusks. After all, I did have that other tusk and it seemed to be a crafting material without any problem.

Taking one last look through the grass to see if there were any crafting materials. Not seeing any I decided to head further out from the pond to try to find some boar to kill and take their tusks. I made my way down a hill to a clearing where I saw a few groups of boar. Deciding to play it safe I carefully approached a boar that was standing by itself. As the distance between us shrank I drew my blade and readied myself for battle.
