[SP-F4] Snowcones are good. <<Avalanche Repeat>>

Recommended Posts

Deciding to prepare for a new quest he wished to take soon, Nikodemus sat down and counted out the things he'd need. First and foremost was a <<SnowFrost Potion>>. Those were a drop from a mob on Floor 4. He had slain Marshmallow once before, but he had used that potion on Floor 9 killing the Cerberus with Ratatosk and Lawfer. Grumbling, he decided he needed to go get a second one. Preparing his armor and axe, he smiled and headed out of his shop. Travelling to the teleport gate, Nikodemus shouted "Teleport: Snowfrost!" With that, he was whisked away from Nimbus on Floor 7, to Snowfrost on Floor 4. Turning, he began to set off towards the area that Marshmallow would spawn. As he went, Nikodemus opened his inventory and consumed a Damage potion. He didn't want to take any chances of grinding against the giant snowcone.

Trudging through the snow, Nikodemus mutter to himself. "Sad. I like snow. A lot. I miss home. The snow capped peaks, the tall forest outside the town. A blanket of snow on a winter eve. Walking through it in the afternoon, the skies grey and the sun peaking through enough to give the air a slight glow to it. Sadly, this world doesn't quite have that." As he moved along, he noticed that he was near enough to the field where the <<Ice Elementals>> spawned. Figuring it wouldn't hurt to hunt a couple, Nikodemus took his axe from it's resting place and gripped his shield tightly in his left hand. Scanning about, he kept his eyes open for any large mounds of snow or odd chunks of ice. He had dealt with <<Ice Elementals>> before, and they were not much of an issue, but they could blend well if they chose to. Seeing a cluster of icy towers jutting from the snow, Nikodemus nodded. <<Ice Elementals>> were there. Slipping forward, he prepared to strike and waited for them to move.

As the 4 <<Ice Elementals>> shifted, Nikodemus grinned and launched himself forward, ready to strike the creatures. His axe began to glow a sickly emerald color as he charged a Sword Art. Each of the large <<Ice Elementals>> attempted to swat him aside, but Nikodemus dodged each of their flailing mitts. Coming up behind them, having manuevered between them perfectly, Nikodemus spun on his foot and hurled his axe, activating his <Tomahawk Thrust> Sword Art. The axe soared through the air and split through each creature, rendering them to pixels, before returning to his hand. Catching the blade, Nikodemus smiled and gathered the dropped loot from each beast. Turning, he moved on.

Moiving along, Nikodemus kept his eyes open for anything. He felt his energy restoring itself as he moved along. He kept his gaze shifting from left to right as he sought more beasts to fight. His axe in hand, Nikodemus prodded mounds of snow, and kicked chunks of ice with his armored boot. None of them were <<Ice Elementals>>. Grumbling, he kept his pace towards the spawn zone where Marshmallow spawned. His icy eyes kept a vigil watch for anything as he did, and he hoped more would come for him.

Looking around, Nikodemus decided to check for any loose materials that may be laying about. Digging his boot through small patches of snow, Nikodemus kept his wits about him. He knew things could spring out at any moment and strike, but he wanted to search around a bit. He took a moment to look through the snow, but ended up finding nothing. With that, Nikodemus sighed and began looking for <<Ice Elementals>> once more, but also saw none about. Grumbling more, he moved along, coming close to the large snow field where Marshmallow would be dwelling.

Coming up to another cluster of <<Ice Elementals>> Nikodemus decided to deal with them right away. He was ready to be done with these beasts before they stirred. With his axe at the ready, Nikodemus prepared his <Tomahawk Thrust> and launched his axe from his hand. It whirled through the air and then slammed through each being, bursting them into pixels. With a resounding clang in the still air, the axe bounded from a rock and returned to Nikodemus' hand. Gathering the fallen loot from each slain <<Ice Elemental>>, Nikodemus once more headed off, grumbling as he did.

Moving to the edge of the snow field, Nikodemus spotted the large jutting obelisk of ice. It was the field boss, Avalance (or more commonly to Nikodemus, Marshmallow), slumbering. Nikodemus need only approach the beast and it would stir, and become active. Deciding to deal with Marshmallow at his full strength, Nikodemus cleared the snow from a rock and sat down on it, resting his arms in his lap and calming himself internally. With a deep breath, Nikodemus watched the field before him and waited.

Waiting was normally a hard thing for Nikodemus, but today he was making sure his patience was outstanding. Resting on the rock, he continued to relax and breath deeply. He watched the obelisk of ice for any movement, and occasionally gazed about for other <<Ice Elementals>>. Thankfully none showed up. Sitting there, he had time to be with his thoughts, and they were turned to the first time he did this. He had been newer and much weaker, but he prevailed. He smiled at this, and once more prayed he prevailed again.

Feeling his legs begin to tingle, Nikodemus stood and began to stretch them out. He felt his strength return to him, and was almost ready to fight. Making sure his muscles hadn't locked up on him (An all to common issue he dealt with in the real world after working to much forging steel, then resting for a moment while things were being heat treated or while eating lunch in between orders, then returning to hammer away at a fresh billet), Nikodemus stretched and rolled his arms, hands, legs, and torso. After a moment, he smiled and then took his axe from it's length of chain and his shield from it's resting place on his back. Marching out into the snow field, Nikodemus began to whistle a tune.

Entering the snow fields heart, Nikodemus came face to face with the towering ice pillar. Kicking it with his spiked metal boot, Nikodemus called out. "Hey!!! Marshmallow! Wake up ya lazy popcicle! Yoohoo! Wakey wakey Schlafmütze!!!" Not getting a response, Nikodemus grumbled and brought his leg back. With a powerful kick, his boot chipped the ice slightly, and stirred the sleeping beast. The ground rumbled slightly, and the air was rent with the cracks and snaps of ice splitting. Slowly, the pillar of ice rose up and two large rents appeared, the ice slipping free and forming arms and hands. Another set of splits appeared and the legs emerged. Lastly, the tip of the ice, which was actually Avalanche itself, fractured in a straight line and the head rose up on a neck of ice. A whitish blue fire appeared deep within the ice, forming the eyes, and a jagged slash appeared, forming the mouth. With a roar, the beast shook free snow and hanging ice from it's body and looked around. Spotting Nikodemus, it stepped forward, ready to kill the man where he stood.

Taking his axe in hand, Nikodemus charged a Sword Art. Charging forward at the beast, Nikodemus dodged one of it's hamfisted blows, the ice beneath him shuddering and begging to split. Using the beast as a jumping platform, Nikodemus leapt up onto it's buried fist, then up into the air and let loose his axe. The Sword Art <Heightened Bash> allowed Nikodemus to bring his sword up and into the beasts face hard. Cracking the ice of it's head slightly, Nikodemus pushed off it's shoulder and then spiraled down and landed before the beast. As it growled. <<Avalanche>> tried to move, but was stunned in place. With a smirk, Nikodemus brought his axe behind him and prepared to let loose the finishing blow.

Charging forward, Nikodemus brought his axe around and attempted to bring the conflict to an end. As his blade whipped past his shoulder, Nikodemus felt his foot catch in one of the many cracks in the ice below him. Coming off balance, Nikodemus put his other foot out to stop himself, abandoning his swing, and felt the ice below him catch just right on his boot and his leg coming out from under him. Rotating in air, Nikodemus came down hard on his hands and knees, then staggered to his feet quickly and brought his axe and shield up, preparing for the beast to break from it's stunned condition.

As the beast broke from it's stunned condition, Nikodemus brought his shield up and caught the blow meant to smash him into the ice and forced it back. Chunks of jagged ice sliced at his hand and arm, wounding him, but he ignored them and pressed the attack as his armor's <Thorns> effect sent a wave of damage through the beast. With his Sword Art <Undertone> charged, Nikodemus brought his axe up in an undercut strike, knocking the beast backwards, and then brought the blade back down and sliced at it's exposed midsection, breaking through the icy exterior. Watching the beast stagger and fall, bursting to pixels, Nikodemus fell back for a moment and took a deep breath.

Gathering himself, Nikodemus stood up and brushed the snow from his armor. Grumbling angrily, he leaned down and snagged the potion from where it lay on the ground. Looking around, he sighed and then began trudging back towards town. His mind drifted for a bit here and there, giving him time to debate on his next moves. He knew the end game, but it was the journey that needed the planning. Tromping through snow and ice, Nikodemus muttered to himself and watched the white powder become broken and cracked as he stomped his way along.

Moving along, Nikodemus kept his head down and his attention at the ground. Searching for his former tracks was easy enough, the snow having barely been touched by fresh powder. The indents were not crisp, but still visible to his eyes. Climbing a hill slightly, Nikodemus panted as his feet were buried deep in the white snow. Grumbling, he trudged up and over, then headed down. Seeing at a distance a nice snow field, Nikodemus figured he'd make it there and rest for a bit before returning home. Reaching the bottom of the hill, Nikodemus began heading to the field he had seen.

Finally entering the small snow field, Nikdoemus found a nice tall rock to sit upon. Dusting the snow off as best as he could, Nikodemus took up a perch and relaxed atop the flat rock. With a sigh, he looked around and smiled. The snow was beautiful, and he hated that he had to destroy the serenity of the landscape with his large form tearing through the snow. He always had a greater love of winter and snow. With a sigh, he looked around one last time and then stood and began heading back once again. his feet moved through the snow and made a trail as he made his way back to town.

As he moved through the snowy landscape, Nikodemus sought out anything useful to him. Materials, Col, anything. As he looked around, Nikdoemus stopped occasionally and dug in the snow here and there for anything. Thinner patches of snow were the best and easiest to search, but occasionally he had to look in deeper patches. While digging in the deeper snow, he was always careful not to let his mind wander. Always wary for enemy mobs, he kept looking around after digging a few handfuls of snow out. Finding nothing here and there, he kept moving.

Charging through the snow, Nikodemus sighed and looked for the trail head that would lead him back to town. As he found it, he smiled and began to traverse it. His feet clanked on the stone walk beneath the snow as he trudged along, and he smiled as he could see the main settlement a ways off.  Looking along the path, he watched the fauna of floor 4 move about in the distant tree line, blissfully unaware of the armored giant as he moved along. His gaze flitted between them, counting their numbers off and viewing them much like a scientist views a colony of endangered species. His mind whirred with thoughts about them, but he was in dire want of returning home.

Coming to the small settlement, Nikodemus remained along the outskirts. Being an Orange Player meant he couldn't enter past a certain point, and this frustrated Nikodemus, but he understood the reason. With a shrug, he began heading the long way around towards the teleport gate. He listened as people within the main walls laughed and cheered, told stories and shared secrets. Occasionally he saw movement as people moved about, heading to taverns and shops. The sun was dropping, so night would be coming soon, and people were back in town ready to spend the cold hours in an inn, tavern, or home. Nikodemus wanted to return to his temporary home in this game. His small shop outside of Nimbus.

As he made his way around the settlement, halfway to the teleport plaza, Nikodemus smiled and thought about the first time he had been to this floor. He had came with the resident Blacksmith Mack to get a free set of armor and a weapon from him, along with others. He had climbed a tall tree and jumped from it to test the armor, finding it well made. He laughed at the memory, realizing he had been quite insane back then, his mind still healing. Since then, he had undergone a quest that had helped him regain more control of himself, but he was still quite insane. He controlled it well, but had lost it once on floor 5, resulting in his orange cursor when he slew an NPC. With a sigh, he shook the thoughts of that from his head and rounded the corner, seeing the teleport gate.
