She didn't think they were in the clear yet, but the hardest challenge was most certainly over. She made her way out of the cave, giving cursory glances to make sure that Cosi was still behind her. She didn't think that there was any need to stay in a particularly tight formation, as it was unlikely they would get attacked again. Once out of the cave, Hokori gave a look around her surroundings and saw something strange poking out of the ground. She moved over to it and planted her sword into the ground. As she looked at it, she relized it may be some sort of treasure chest. It certainly appeared to be a form of container to her. Beckoning Cosi over, she began to dig it up out of the ground. Cosi 0 Posted August 27, 2018 #22 Report Share Posted August 27, 2018 (edited) Cosi followed Katagawa outside of the cave as the pair began their way back to the Town of Beginnings. As they exited the dark cave, Cosi blinked several times as his eyes adjusted to the bright sunlight. He rubbed his eyes to clear the spots then he realized Katagawa had moved away from the mouth of the cave and was calling to Cosi. Cosi moved over to her and the object that she was inspecting. It seemed to be a treasure chest of sorts. “Cool! More loot,” Cosi said as he approached. But then something caught his eye. Something he couldn’t quite place. As Katagawa dug our the chest Cosi noticed that the chest itself had some interesting designs on it. Designs that looked like eyes and teeth. Then Cosi saw one of the eyes blink and the teeth that lined the chest lid grin. Cosi swore under his breath and in a split second decision dove at Katagawa, knocking her away from the not so chest. Just as he shoved Katagawa aside the mimic lunged it’s chest mouth full of razor sharp rows of shark teeth opening wide ready to take a bite out of Cosi. Cosi pushed himself out of the way of those teeth and rolled to the side of the mimic where he crouched and pulled out his sword. Cosi hated it when his treasure tried to kill him. Before she could even ask why he was doing it, she heard the gnashing of teeth and saw what she thought was the chest trying to attack Cosi. He lunged out of the way, but Hokori had no such luxury. With the chest bearing down on her, she quickly grabbed at her sword and ran it through. It didn't shatter like she had hoped, but the eyes on the sides of what seemed to be wood rolled back for a little bit. She quickly pulled out her large sword and backed away from it. "I think it's down for now, but it is certainly not dead yet." She was fairly certain that it was from the special effect she had asked for on her blade. Though she was hesitant to put something luck based on, it seemed to really be paying off right now. Cosi 0 Posted August 29, 2018 #24 Report Share Posted August 29, 2018 (edited) "I hate mimics," Cosi said from his crouched position, "Time to die stupid chest" Cosi loosely gripped his sword, swung it around a couple times, and then approached the not so chest. It looked like Katagawa's attack had stunned the thing for a moment but Cosi wasn't taking any chances with this thing. He charged the mimic and slashed at the monster repeatedly. The blade sank into the mimic cutting deep but Cosi did not stop there. He continued to slash at its hide. Disturbingly it didn't splinter or crack as the wooden surface should have. The blade cut into the mimic, squelching as it did, and revealing purple flesh beneath. Cosi yanked out his sword, preparing to strike again but at that moment the paralysis wore off. The mimic jumped out of the way, its body undulating and convulsing like a slug's to move it. Cosi brought up Rose Gold to stop an attack but the monster seemed to be going after Katagawa. She hefted up her blade and let it hang in the air while the mimic ran right too it. It's teeth were gleaming a pungent yellow as she rammed her blade straight through its mouth. She quickly pulled it out, not wanting to be bitten so easily by the beast itself. It continued to gnash its teeth at her, coming ever so closer. She could tell it was starting to hurt from its wounds though as it slowed in its approach. Perhaps it was growing wary of her blade, or maybe it was just slowing down and starting to mimic an inanimate object again. Either way, it seemed to be favoring Hokori much better than she would've hoped. Though Cosi could probably tank the hits better than her, she knew she could still take quite the beating before going down herself. Cosi 0 Posted September 1, 2018 #26 Report Share Posted September 1, 2018 (edited) As the mimic kept running after Katagawa, trying to eat her or whatever evil sentient chests did, Cosi circled around it to try to try to sneak up and attack it. But once he was within striking distance he saw a red eye shift, moving through the wood looking flesh to stare backwards at him. Not going to lie Cosi screamed just a little bit as the monster shifted its entire body around, its rows of razor sharp teeth grinning almost, but he still managed to stab it in the face. Then he stabbed it twice more and kicked it away from him. The thing felt like a ton of wet cement but still the mimic was pushed several feet towards Katagawa. Before Cosi could offer warning the thing lunged at her, its mouth of shark teeth open wide, but the mimic seemed much worse for wear. Its movements seemed sluggish and slow, which allowed Katagawa to easily avoid the attack. Katagawa 0 Posted September 2, 2018 Author #27 Report Share Posted September 2, 2018 It was a close scrape, but Hokori managed to dodge out of the way of the mimic before it locked its teeth onto her. Without any further hesitation, she quickly swung her blade around in a full three-hundred sixty spin right back at the chest. With the one smooth movement, she had avoided the attack and sliced the top of it clean off. There was some clear pain on the chest now, and it's health bar was barely visible to her. The chest came to a halt. It had stopped moving without giving any resistance. "Finish it off now. It shouldn't be much of a problem if we take it out before it fully recovers." There was a good chance one more hit would kill the thing, though Hokori didn't want to take her chances. It would be a much safer idea to ensure that there would be no more ways for the chest to strike. She quickly made her way around it to get into a flanking position and prevent the mimic from running. Cosi 0 Posted September 2, 2018 #28 Report Share Posted September 2, 2018 (edited) Cosi watched as Katagawa nearly chopped the mimic in two and he saw the monster’s health bar drop far into the red. The evil treasure chest stopped suddenly- probably because of Katagawa’s special sword- allowing Cosi the leisure to walk up to the mimic. “With pleasure,” Cosi brought up his sword and slammed it down into the mimic. And then as a precaution he yanked out his blade and stabbed it down twice more. The mimic couldn’t even make a sound because of the paralysis. It just sat there and convulsed as it’s health bar emptied and then as it began to dissolve into small particles and spinning lines of crimson code. As the mimic died Cosi plopped to the ground pretty tired. He heard his inventory go off with a ding as he received whatever the mimic dropped but he ignored that. It was a lengthy process to do, but was the best way she had found to store the huge thing while it wasn't needed for a while. "It was certainly a bit more than we bargained for. Though we got it down in the end. Let's head back to town and give these gems to Hannah. I have a feeling we're not quite done here with these lesson quests. They give good experience though." She pulled up her inventory to make sure the gem was still there. Satisfied with her results, she quickly began to make her way back towards town. Though she figured Cosi would follow her, she did make sure that he was keeping pace with her. She wanted to continue onto the likely next part with him, though she didn't want to compromise her speed for it. He stood up, sheathed his sword, and slung his shield over his back, "They're always so disappointing and annoying," He shrugs his shoulders and starts walking back to town. The duo doesn't have to travel too far to make it to the Town of Beginnings and they make it there with no problem. The pair continue through the town's gates and head towards the central plaza, where Hannah's grove is located. They find it easily- it is practically the only greenery there- and Cosi and Katagawa hand over their gems to the artisan. The wait for a second as she deftly and expertly makes two trinkets with the gems and cloth; one for Cosi and Katagawa. After handing over their rewards the NPC asks for one last favor. "Could you take this package to Ol' Pete? He's a fisherman. You'll find him outside the city by a giant lake close to the mountains." She hands Cosi the package. The blonde warrior turns towards his companion, "Guess we've got more questing to do," He pauses for a second, then takes off running, "Lets do this Kata! I want to be done with these starter quests!"
