Growing up, Rin had very little around him. During his years with his family, they traveled numerous places and stayed at shelters growing up. It wasn't long before the surroundings absorbed him and he became the way he was growing up. He had grown accustomed to stealing and bullying his way through the world to survive. It was the bi product of a system that had been corrupted. Majority of the world had refused to see what the world was coming to this day and age. At the age of 9, he had been taken from his traveling gypsy family and brought into the foster care system. This was just as bad as living out in the cruel world. Now it just had a name. It was common for children to fall into the cracks of society and to be forgotten about. This happened to be the case. He grew up cruel with society and had a pessimistic outlook on life.

But after a few years had gone by, he met a girl named Mitoko. They were in the same class despite his age. Reason being he had skipped classes and was held back not once but twice. She had been a cruel target of his constant bullying. Her shy demeanor and lack of confidence was the top two reasons as to why he had been constantly harboring a threshold of bullying for her. Or perhaps it was because boys pick on girls because it was something that they did in high school. Something happened to Rin.. something not so nice.

It was a clear and sunny day for Rin traveling home by himself. He had been constantly going to school now and going to work to support himself to get a nice job and to finally live the high life. On his way home, he had heard alarms going off by a near by convenience store in his neighborhood. Being nosy and curious got the better of him that day and bad things had started to happen. The burglar roucrash landed into Rin and the two fell to the ground with money flying around. The burglar took off and Rin had money thrown and strewn around him. It wasn't long before he had been arrested for robbery and apparently assault. Rin pleaded and pleaded that they had gotten the wrong man but it fell upon deaf ears.

Knowing his record and juvenile behavior, the judge that prosecuted Rin had been lenient to him. It was apparently the first felony he had committed and he was still in high school. They took into consideration that he was also working part time at a deli store near his neighborhood. Yet still, even though the charges were dropped down to D misdemeanors, he was sent to a correction facility to rehabilitate his behavior. Two years was two years too long for an innocent young man to be sent. But despite being held against his will, the two years spent had been a success. All the time he had been sitting in a somewhat like cell room, his thoughts often traveled back to the girl who had been quite.. terrible to. His first goal that he had written about was to immediately apologize to that one girl. The one girl who never lifted a finger back to him or said anything terrible to him.

Upon release to being back in society, he had developed quite an odd behavior. Yet the world didn't seem to pause and he had grown stale. No matter. He had already gotten his GED so there was no reason to go back to school. But there was a reason he had to go back. He had to find "that" girl. He had traveled back to their old school and had realized that he would of been a sophomore in high school had he stayed. He went to the office and to his surprise, people still remembered who he was. That cruel young man that people had to look for was back. But no matter, when he asked for the girl and what class she was in, he was told that she had moved away. A sinking feeling hit him as he walked out of the office with the letter he had written her.

As he walked out of the school, he crumpled the letter and tucked it in his pocket. Every day,he would go to the market and look for the girl he had seen walking. Every day, he would go and look at the phone book for this girls name that he had brought tragedy to. And every day, he would fail. Frustration couldn't even describe what he was feeling as he vented towards his games. Day and night it was the same routine for Rin. He would wake up, go to work, get off and look for this girl. It was everyday until one day.. he spotted her leaving a game store with Nervegear.

Taking this rare chance, he jumped at the chance of giving her the letter. But he stalled, he couldn't bring himself to come forth and apologize after torturing the poor girl for so long. In his thoughts, he had wished she would of forgotten about him and his antics. But they were foolish thoughts of a mans whose guilt had eaten him alive. Instead of pursuing her in real life, he had gotten in line and received the game that she had purchased. " I'll apologize.. one way or another.." If he could do it in the virtual world with a fake face, it'd be easier than for her to see him in real life and the pain hit her like a knife. His thought process was flawless. He could easily befriend her, hand her a letter, and vanish to be never seen again. Those were his last thoughts of common sense until he entered the reality of hell known as SAO.

» Virtues:

. Calm- There has nothing been in this world that could make him flinch minus the exception of Mitoko. His calm demeanor is a result of having been placed in the facility to rehabilitate him. This in turn allowed him to have a steady mind in the face of danger instead of acting recklessly.

. Passionate- Rin has been known to be very passionate with his feelings. Regardless if they were anger or happiness, there was always a sense of pride in everything he did. He wanted people to understand that he truly believed in things that meant close to the young man. Showing feelings was something he had hidden from the world for so many years and being around people who supported him while he was caged allowed this virtue to surface.

. Over protective- This stems from the game itself. After having a troubled life in the real world, he never actually stood up or cared enough about anyone other than himself. With this world, he had developed an awareness that protecting each other was better than the end result. This was the fact that the world was thrown into chaos and people were forced to survive or be destroyed. Anyone he has developed a friendship will become protected by him.

. Bold- Being passionate can be very well done but can be misconstrued as being bold. Often too many times he has been labeled as one too harsh with his words. Its because he isn't afraid to state his opinion whether it is right or wrong. The after effects of said words and being bold often leads to confrontation or even a fight.

. Two Faced- Old habits are hard to break. He is known to play nice with someone for the sake of others but once their backs are turned, his words can be.. venomous. He harbors no ill feelings but quick judgments on people are his downfall. He doesn't like giving people much of a chance unless they have proven themselves through action.

. Arrogant- His word play often leads to arrogance. There is no denying that he is arrogant either. He will tell you to his face that he enjoys being arrogant for people being either too stupid around him or if they have done something that they shouldn't of. He often thinks he is better than most because he has suffered a life of pain and other people have been spoon fed their way of life.
