[SP-F4] A test of strength <<Avalanche>> [Complete]

Recommended Posts

He walked cautiously through the depths of the blinding snow storm, each gust made L shiver. The information he had received led him to the edge of the fourth floor, an area covered in ice and snow with the potentials of mountains of experience providing him with the potential essence of power he so desperately desired. The source of such dividends was a hidden boss named avalanche, fitting for a hidden boss in a floor covered in snow. He stood tall and stretched for a moment.

He wasn't sure how much worse the conditions of the floor could get but he wasn't about to turn back now. "The conditions of a floor are easily managed by a strong mind, but my god I'm freezing" He began to blow out on his fingers. His arm guards and the rest of his armor kept everything warm but his fingers and cheeks.

He was confident in his ability to defeat this boss. Avalanche was larger than anything he had faced alone before but he was confident he was ready. 50 health with decent damage, it could have been much worse. Its stats were very much similar to the Goblin Kings except Avalanche didn't posses any special abilities, or at least as far as he knew. He wanted to challenge himself to see if he was worthy to call himself strong.

He was pretty much useless in the final stretch against it.. at least if he took this boss by himself he could somewhat redeem himself. However that was just one of the reasons... the main one being aforementioned.. the mountains of experience he wanted in order to obtain the extra skill <<katana>> so he could finally get serious with a real weapon. "I'll prove my strength!" He re-assured himself to make sure he wouldn't back out..

L began to trudge closer to his destination through the snow. His keen eye and common sense allowed him to realise potential enemies in the vicinity. He didn't feel like wasting his time on pathetic creatures, oh how he dreaded farming lesser foe. He only cared about fighting opponents stronger than he, It also allowed him to defeat his opponents with a sense of self worth and this time he didn't take anything to 'cheat' this fight like food or potions he thought back to again to the Goblin King fight, he was just a meat shield.. utterly pathetic he thought to himself.

He finally managed to traverse through the large open field of ice.  He had heard that the boss was an ice cave dweller that would fiercely protect the entrance. The cave itself holding nothing really special, or so it was rumoured but even so, he didn't mind at all going through another cave. He was completely ready but he doubled checked all his gear items and health, he didn't want any nasty surprises that would interfere with the actual skill of an honourable battle.

The snowstorm finally came to a halt as he had arrived at maw of the cave. "Phew, thank god that's over" Another gust of wind blew furiously and almost knocked him over as if the gods were mocking him. He looked around to make sure no player saw his random stagger "I meant to do that." He smirked at himself.

L drew out his new weapon, the flyssa and swung it around as a test and breathed out his last shred of nervousness. He was 100% ready this time as the silence pierced his soul. He heard a series of slow stomps, the ground seemed to tremble and rumble lightly slowly building up until once again, there was complete calm.

A mighty roar came out from the mouth of the cave accompanied by large gusts of wind. Avalanche came bursting out of the cave almost crushing him if he had not dashed backwards to gain distance. The ground quaked as it stretched out it's arms and pounded its chest in defiance of the puny challenger.

"You look a little squishy for a boss named avalanche" The giant yeti looking creature glared at him and bellowed in anger, he seemed to have a way with making things hate him before actually engaging in anything. His muscles twitch in anticipation "Bring it!"

Avalanche started running for him shaking the ground underneath his feet. The sky darkened and cold dropped to piercing levels, his heart skipped a beat as the boss lurched towards him "Don't freeze, don't freeze, don't freeze" He tried to calm himself as the blue silhouette let its first fly. He was knocked viciously across the snow, this was the first time he had froze up in a fight. He got up slowly and shakily as the beast roared already assured of its victory.

L glared at the monstrosity as it openly insulted him "Just a little cold feet... Don't you.. don't you DARE INSULT ME!" He charged back into range of the beast as it brought both hands down to crush him, he continued forward and ducked under it's legs. It turned quickly to face him, he would have to be quicker than that. "You [censored] bastard.. tch.." He lowered his centre of gravity and waited for its next attack. It lugged it's arm forward and he smirked, it was just what he was waiting for. He darted to the side and kicked off its arm, he brought his arm up behind his head and cleaved downwards slashing straight down the side of its face.

Avalanche recoiled in pain holding onto his face. his blade seemed to cut down its eye. L smirked "That's what you get for underestimating me" Avalanche glared at him with its working eye still clasping onto the other that delivered excruciating pain to him ever second he moved a facial muscle. L decided not to waste any more time than he had to and charged forward, the beast flayed its arm furiously hoping to knock him away but his aim was off. He didn't even have to dodge as he jumped forward vigilantly and slashed across the monsters kneecap.

He made a quick rebound off the ground and pierced through the yeti creatures tough hide seemingly effortlessly as if he were skewering tender chicken. The beast took careful aim through the pain and brought its fist down hard knocking him into the snow, luckily L brought his arm up to soak up a bit of the damage.  "You're getting the hang of dealing with that eye now huh" The creature grunted as if it were nothing

Avalanche began to really despise this tiny insolent human. It's rage began to become noticeable as its eye glew a deep red that trailed by its movements, it let out a tremendously mammoth bellow causing the ground to shudder. It was so terrifying the blood began to flee from Ls face and his stomach began to curdle. It began to stampede towards him, ploughing through the masses of snow 'neath it. He bit down on his lip hard to regain focus to the point it cut it open slightly. His eyes snapped back to the beast and began to analyse the situation, he was to keep one step ahead of this beast, no matter what. One of his favourite song began to play in his head as his strategy played unfolded in his mind. He began to whisper slowly as it all played out in his mind "On right foot forward.. Left, right, back, up, forward, strike!" The other possibilities had also played out however judging by the speed and footsteps of the beast he could tell in which way the beast would strike.

It was time... the beast as calculated stepped with its right foot forward, leading in with a strike with its right arm as predicted. He dashed left leaving the whole beasts body wide open and slashed at its ribs. The beast in fury turned and attacking with its left arm, so obvious.. he dashed to the right and slashed the other side. The beast, not wanting to make the same mistake turned and attacked with both hands, bringing them down like a hammer. L smirked, the beast was so predictable. He dashed backwards avoiding the blow and jumped up into the air spinning to give him momentum as he flipped over the titans colossal body. The beast couldn't react in time as he dashed forward jumping onto its back and driving his blade deep into the beasts spine paralysing it for the moment, it couldn't respond to his attack. Over the course of those movements only 6 seconds had passed.

The beast broke out of its paralysis and swung at him, L kicked off it's back in time to dodge it. Both of them started attacking leaving only a flurry of moments to be seen to the publics eyes but deep inside the battle however, both knew exactly what was going on inside. It continued like that for a good 3 mins of dodging and weaving through each others attacks. The battle had only just begun.

The blur of movement continued as both started to become increasingly more agitated at each other. He had to break this dance, he wasn't sure if A-is tired, but he certainly did. "You sly bastard, when did you get so fast!" Avalanche simply grunted and threw another punch, it was to fierce to block and counter attack so he simply dodged again. He retaliated with another strike but the beast was too used to his style. He had to change this.. and he knew just how. He had to stop trying, as hard as that was for him. He had to enter that state again, it was his only chance.

He stopped moving for a second while he entered a state of deep concentration. The beast saw its chance and threw a colossal punch at him. It was far too late for that now, it was almost in an instant but Ls eyes glowed a deep sea blue, the amber in his eyes was practically non-existent. His eyes flew open as he met its blow with his own, both flew back taking some damage and grunting. The battle was getting serious.

There was only silence on the battlefield now, no matter how hard the beast tried he couldn't hit him at all. The zone proved effective but not getting hit was never the problem. The beast tried for one more strike as L tumbled forward under its legs, the beast wasn't expecting a tumble at all, it was the first time he tried it and the first time the beast ever saw something move that way. He ended up behind Avalanche with his back turned, it was too late for him to react as L swung his blade behind his back severing one of the tendons the beasts leg. It dropped down on its knee, it was helpless as L brought his blade down for another strike cutting down the length of the beasts back, responding only with a cry.

A large gust of wind rolled through the dead cold battlefield. It wasn't unusual for him to find himself in these kinds of fights. It was all or nothing and he was willing to give everything to prove his strength, even his life. "Don't contest me Avalanche, just give up" Avalanche snorted and charged back at him, sword and fist clashed, surprisingly however L managed to overpower the beast and send it flying across the snow adding to avalanches many scars.

The fierce battle only continued to progress further, neither one of them letting up. Soon he would have to find another opening in the beasts defence if he was to be victorious in this battle. Fist flew past faces and blades sliding off fur. The intensity of the fight grew heavier and heavier. The battle wasn't going to end anytime soon.

Avalanched seemed to be keeping up with him even though he was in this form. Another skirmished was reaching its peak, the outcome of it was to be decided by the one who made the best move. L constantly tried thinking ahead of his opponent while in his state of huge concentration. He looked into the beasts eyes, it's movements and smirk gave it away, the beast was to stomp sending him off balance followed by an uppercut to the abdomen. He wasn't going to allow it to happen, he propped him next few steps to adjust and as soon as Avalanche stomped he jumped into the air to avoid the shockwaves, neither of them making the move that would break the battles stride in this skirmish.

L continued to fight long and hard in the numbingly cold snow. The beast seemingly unaffected by the cold continued to battle furiously too. L however was not out of hope just yet, he was in a position of power and control and that is what truly mattered in a battle and he was going to prove it. They broke off from another skirmish and the beast readied to launch another attack, as its fist flew threw the air L prepared himself to counter. He slid the blade against its arm deflecting the angle slightly stopping any damage as his blade sunk deep into the beasts arm.

The beast waved its arm clearing it of Ls presence. The battle was going fairly well but the beast was angry. Once again they engaged in another skirmish fist against metal. They kept moving in swift succession as the beast finally managed to land a counter-attack knocking his arms up. "Impressive.." He gazed at the big brutish figure in awe as it brought its arms back down crushing him into the snow. "So this is what fighting a real boss by yourself is like... i might actually die" The fight brought a hard realisation down on him, not even he could fight alone.

He wasn't just about to give up yet, he still had life in him. On the beasts next stomp he rolled to the side avoiding the strike. If he was going to die he was going to do it fighting, he strafed to the side after the beast realised he had moved and turned to face him except he was already gone. L snickered and the beast turned around again furiously, Avalanches temper was getting larger and it's patience was growing thin.

L was sure that if he had entered this battle mentally and physically un-prepared he would have been dead by now. The pure angst could be seen in Avalanches expression, it was like he wanted him dead more than any other puny human known to SAO. They locked sights and had a stare down as they both charged straight for each other. Their skirmish leading up to another peak where they were both sent flying out.

The suspense for an end to the battle was killing L inside, it was so bad he slowly started to exit his zone in not already done when he was pummelled to  the ground. His movements where just enough to keep up with the beast, as he feared Avalanche wasn't growing tired at all. He was in grave danger if he didn't end it soon. The time beckoned for them to enter their next skirmish each blow after each blow flying past each other, it seemed to end the same as it usually did. Both adversaries returning from the fray unscathed. For the first time since joining the death game he panted hard trying to get his strength back. Being in the zone was powerful, but it put an immense amount of pain on the users body.

His chest was heavy, his sight growing dim. He could already hear the calls of the damned while his hp whittled on 50% it was battles like these that made him feel alive but it soon seemed he was going to be dead unless he didn't change anything soon. The beast wasn't going to let up or give him a break, they engaged in yet another skirmish, ducking left and right up and down you'd have to see it to believe it. Avalanche desperately wanted an opening, it hammered down with both arms then swung them out in hopes to catch him out. L was much too smart for a cringe worthy plan like that, he simply dodged backwards and charge forwards once its arm where wide open. His blade traveled from the top right of the beasts chest all the way down to its hips as it desperately brought its arms back in to catch him within its grasp. L planned ahead, like he thought i was just a cringe worthy and predictable combo, he ducked down and Avalanche simply clapped mid air, looking somewhat like one of those hollywood butler monkeys that performed on the street for money. "That look suits you" Avalanche grimaced, still overwhelmed by pain, it fell back into the snow

It laid flat on the floor desperate for a counter, the curse of his shinigami armguards however kept him pinned to the ground. L saw his chance to strike again jumping into the air. Avalanche closed its eyes and prepared for the worse as L drove his blade deep into its neck. The blade sunk so deep it hit a vital nerve adding to the beasts paralysis, the beast would be roaring in pain if not for the arm guards curse. Finally progress was being made, the beast was on 20% health and he was still fairly well on 50%, his victory was assured, oh so he thought to himself, he just had to trade blows now.
