  1. Despite the guilt that seemed to linger inside of her, Astrid felt relieved that he hadn't been waiting too long for a reply, and had arrived at their current location only a few minutes before she herself did. "Thank Gods." She whispered, giving him a small smile. "They do!" She nodded in agreement to his statement about the small boars being vicious. She remembers her first few encounters with them, and how they had reduced her health fairly quickly with very few hits, due to her lack of experience and low level. Now she was able to at least hold her ground and fend off one or two on her own without losing too much health. The red haired girl scratched the back of her neck sheepishly, her head tilted to one side. "Ah, no, not really. I mean, I've tried it but I never got very far, and I don't find the appeal in doing it by myself." She admitted. "But! I would like to do more. I want to improve myself and hopefully be of use in leaving this game." She knew it sounded silly: a player with a very low level wanting to help in the front lines, especially someone as weak as she. By the time that it would take for her to bring up her level to one that would be of help, they probably would already be finished the game and everyone would be home and safe. But despite that, she couldn't help the itching feeling she got every time she thought of it, as if she were meant to be there helping, instead of allowing them all to risk their lives for her and the others.

  2. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Yami." She chirped. Seeing the male bow back to her brought a smile upon her face. Not many people who played the game continued to do such sorts of greetings that they would have back in Japan, throwing away all formalities and manners which they had been taught from childhood. So to see someone do such a thing warmed her completely. A shy smile spread on her face as he mentioned the lack of players on the current floor they were currently on. "Yeah, that's true. Taking a break is great, especially with the situation we're currently in. As much as we need to get out of this game, it's better if we do it with level heads and in moderation. Or else we'll end up losing more players." She said quietly, almost to herself. Seeing the amount of muscles on the male before her, she could guess that he was a player that fought regularly, unlike herself who was still as petite as she was when she started the game, still wearing her beginners clothing.

After dodging the boars attack, Astrid readied herself to strike again, but as she moved to do her own attack, her hands started to slip on her rapier. The excitement was starting to get to her, and she was getting sweaty in her palms. This caused her to miss the boar. Quickly, she regained her grip on her weapon, switching hands to remove the sweat that had built up to avoid it happening again in the future.

  5. The petite auburn haired female couldn't help the smile that spread across her face as she heard him speak. His voice was light and cheerful; he seemed like someone who enjoyed to look at the positive side of situations. His smile was bright, and as she squinted, she wasn't sure if she was squinting because of the bright sun, or because of how blinding his smile was. She looked up at him when he sprang up, surprised by the sudden action. "It's a pleasure to meet you, I'm Astrid!" She bowed politely to Nat. "I'm sorry I didn't send any message back though. I thought I would be able to get here sooner, sorry you had to wait so long." She apologized, scratching the back of her neck in slight embarrassment. She truly felt bad that she didn't let him know in advance. Who knew how long he had been waiting for someone to show up?

  6. Astrid took a deep breath, trying to calm the shaking and nervousness that she was feeling. Having an audience just made her feel twice as nervous that she would usually feel. "Got it!" She called back, her eyes flicking over to him for a moment. It was that moment that the boar charged towards her. She grunted slightly as it tackled her legs. She grit her teeth, taking another deep breath to focus herself. She couldn't get distracted.

Lifting her rapier again, she immediately attacked the creature before it had a chance to move too far away from her.She charged as quickly as possible, a small sound of triumph exiting her lips as she hit it. Even though it wasn`t a critical blow, it boosted the auburn haired girl`s moral, all the nerves she was feeling earlier leaving her body as soon as they came. She moved into a defensive position, getting ready for it`s next move.

((Did I do it properly now?))

  7. She thought it was only going to take her about five minutes to make it to the wilderness, but given her small stature and the fact that she was in the slightly crowded part of the city, it took her longer than she planned. After ten minutes of speed walking, to try and avoid bumping into anyone and delaying herself even more, she started to regret not sending an answer to the message; but it was too late to do so now, seeing as she was only a few minutes away. She slowed down to catch her breath, not wanting to look like she had gone out of her way or ran just to get over there. Plus, if they were going to "practice stabbing", as the player had put it, then she would need to have as much energy as possible. After all, she didn't want to make a fool of herself or burden the player in any way.

As soon as she entered the thick brush, her hand lowered to the hilt of her rapier, ready to pull it out in case anything comes to attack her. She hadn't gone out this far on her own before, so she didn't know what creatures lurked there, or if there were any player killers. She shivered slightly at the thought of meeting one of them, people who take the lives of players for their own amusement. Their situation was bad enough as it was in the game, they didn't need any more threats, especially from people who were supposed to help.

She continued to walk forwards, letting out a sigh of relief when she saw a male sitting down. She would have been wary, had he not have spoken. "Is it okay if I came for both?" She called back as she made her way towards him, lowering her hand from her hilt to her side, relaxing.

  8. Astrid looked at the small creature with a small frown, was it okay to attack this creature in order to bring up her level? It hadn't even made any hostile movements. She looked towards Jomei with a questioning look. He seemed okay with the situation, she should trust him. But she couldn't help but feel uneasy at doing such a thing. Now, she wasn't a vegan or vegetarian, nothing close to one actually, but the thought of injuring the small boar for nothing left a bad feeling in her throat. "Y... yeah. I'm ready."

She clumsily made her way over the small fence, managing not to fall onto her face or bottom. Once steady on her feet, she faced the animal, immediately lowering her body into a defensive stance when she saw it's actions. 'I should probably attack it before it gets a chance to hit me.' She pulled her rapier from it's sheath, a small smile creeping onto her face as she heard the sound of metal on metal as she unsheathed it. Carefully, she lifted the weapon and charged forward, thrusting the weapon. She cursed lightly under her breath as she missed, turning her body, making sure that her back was never turned towards the boar. "Dammit."

  9. The auburn haired female couldn't help but look at the male in surprise; was he truly willing to help her? Judging by the smile he gave her and the tone of his voice, she could tell that he was being sincere. "I want to!" She squeaked, trying her best to hold in the excitement that was bubbling throughout her body. She felt like one of those volcanoes people do at science fairs, ready to burst from happiness. 'I hope I wont be too much of a hindrance at all, because of my low level.' She almost deflated, but managed to keep her feelings in check, the expression on her face unchanging. "Thank you, this really means a lot." She said, her voice sincere as she made her way over to the orange haired male, glancing up at him when by his side, he was much taller than she, and flashing him a smile. Thanks to this kind stranger, she was going to level up. She could imagine her mother gasping in horror at what she was about to do, for she always warned her against strangers, but in a game like SAO, you wouldn't be able to get very far without interacting with one or two here and there. Plus, she felt that she could trust Jomei; he seemed safe.

  10. The petite female had finished writing her sentence before she heard someone move close to where she was seated. She kept her gaze to her page, quieting her humming, waiting until they initiated conversation, not wanting to look strange by looking up and greeting them; it would probably either surprise or creep them out. She turned her chocolate brown gaze upwards, where the voice came from, looking towards the person. She was surprised to see a male with rather abnormally spiked hair. "Ah, no, not at all." She replied with a gentle smile, placing her writing utensil in the middle of her page, turning her body towards the male. "I don't think we've met before, I'm Astrid." She greeted politely, standing up from her seat, giving the male a polite bow.

  11. Astrid looked down at the weapon secured to her waist, gently brushing her fingertips over the weapon's hilt, smiling softly at the metal that shined towards her, almost in greeting. "She is." She almost whispered to herself, referring to her weapon. Though she hadn't used it much, it had helped her get out of tight situations and saved her life once or twice. Even if it was a starters weapon, she had grown quite fond of it, though she wouldn't mind upgrading her gear. She looked up at the male with slight surprise at his statement; did she look that much like a newbie? "No, I haven't. I entered the game alone, without much knowledge about it other than that it was a full dive mmorpg, and that you used swords and other hand held weapons, so I'm pretty lost at what I should do." She gave him a rueful smile, leaning her head to one side as she explained. She wished that she had asked about the game more before entering as soon as she learned that she was stuck there until it was beaten. Had she known a little more information, she could have been of more help to herself and others around her. "B- but I hope to get more experience! I want to be able to be of use; help the front lines in beating more bosses and getting closer to the end of the game." Her voice shook slightly as she said this, but her words were soaking with determination.

  12. Astrid looked up from the ground with a slight pout on her face as he apologised again, even though it was quite obviously her own fault for simply standing there for nothing. "I'm Astrid, it's a pleasure to meet you Jomei." She greeted, giving the male a small smile of greeting, placing her hand in his as she shook it. "Ah, no... that..." She lowered her hand from his, scratching her other arm in embarrassment. How was she supposed to say that she was making a promise to herself to improve, even though she was such a low level. "I was just... thinking, I guess." She finally replied, deciding that she should keep the truth to herself and save herself from having someone laugh at her.

  13. For once Astrid was feeling calm and relaxed. She sat on a bench in the Starting City, legs crossed below her, writing utensil in hand and it drifted left and right on the page before her, filling it with little notes of how her days had been so far in the game. She wasn't familiar with writing yet, so everything was written as dots; she had used braille for as long as she could remember that anything else was like an alien language. A small chuckle erupted from her throat as she imagined someone taking a peak over her shoulder, and looking at her with a strange look for a page filled with nothing but dots. Thankfully, no one was bothering her as she hummed quietly to herself, a song that her mother used to sing to her when she was younger. It pained her chest, to think of her parents, especially at times like this when all was quiet and peaceful. It reminded her of how truly lonely she was. She worried for them, they must be heartbroken, knowing that their only daughter was now trapped in the game and would only be able to exit in one of two ways: death or the winning of the game. As if when she started losing her vision wasn't enough for them, life decided to throw another hurdle at her family and herself, probably smirking as it watched them stumble trying to get over it.

  14. All Astrid had been doing lately was wander aimlessly, so what was she doing right now? Just that. It wasn't that she was bored, because there was just so much to do in this world, but that was the problem. There was so much to do, that she couldn't decide what she should do, which led to her wandering around, deep in thought. She could be a blacksmith, a cook, a tailor, even a performer; there were so many options, how could one possibly choose, especially being so new to the game. But, there was something which she wished to do, and that was to help in the front lines. If she could somehow help defeat more bosses and get them closer to exiting the game, she would be over the moon, even if it meant that she would be putting her life on the line multiple times. But for now, she couldn't do that, she was much too low of a level to be of any help, and though she would love to bring up her level, she'd have no idea where to start and knew she wouldn't be able to do it alone, or at least, not right now.

Without realising it, she had started to make her way towards the Warp Gate Plaza. She had been there only a few times, each time gazing at the gate with a look of longing, vowing to herself that she would use that and leave the Starting City some day, which she hoped was in the near future. She stood there lost in thought, and didn't realise she was in someone's way until they bumped into her. Looking up in shock, she opened her mouth to let out a river of apologies when the man beat her to it. "N- no! It was my fault! I shouldn't have been standing in the middle of the road." She exclaimed, giving him a look of apology and she clutched her hands together, rubbing the in embarrassment. "I'm truly sorry." She said with a bow, keeping her gaze to the ground after rising up.
  15. Astrid wasn't scared, at least, not any more. The first day was filled with shaking limbs and tear filled eyes, the thought "it was too good to be true" repeating itself over and over again in her head. Sure, she had gained her sight, but now she was stuck in the game where, if she died, she'd be dead in real life as well. Wonderful, leave it to life to just hand her a new batch of lemons. But she got over it, or at least, as over it as you could get when you were trapped in a game. Now, a small smile was evident on her face as she strolled through the town, keeping a watchful eye for anything dangerous. She was still a very low level, so it wouldn't take much to lower her health, and she would very much like to get through today without any accidents. But she was feeling restless. She had done nothing these past few days, avoiding everything, and now she wanted to go out and do something. Meet people.

Despite the first day filled with dread, it did bring something good. Astrid finally knew what she looked like: auburn hair that reached her chest, which was now in a pony tail to keep out of her face; chocolate brown eyes framed by long eyelashes; thin cupid bow lips; small ears, and a round face. She was pale, as if she hadn't gone outside for months, which wasn't too far off from the truth. She was skinny and short, but she didn't mind it. She donned her simple starters clothing of blacks and greys. She was different than she had imagined herself, with black hair and blue eyes, but despite that she liked the way she looked. She had taken a few more steps before a notification popped up. Being the curious person she was, she opened it up, a smile making it's way on her face as she read the message. It was a player, looking for a companion, by the looks of it. They seemed friendly enough, she didn't feel like they would be a danger to her, especially seeing as the player was also at level one. She was going to message them back, but opted to just enter the wilderness and meet them there face to face. With a quick check of her inventory, she was off.

    about :
â— astrid is an only child, living in a small family of three, being herself and her mother and father. she had a pretty normal childhood filled with playing in mud, running down hills, and playing pretend, until she started to lose her sight. it wasn't immediate, it slowly started from her left eye moving into her right, her sight going fuzzy until she could no longer see. it was a terrifying experience, especially for someone so young, but as she grew older she learned to accept that she would no longer see the colour of the sky or properly coordinate her clothing without the help of another.

â— as she grew older, she begame interested in gaming, especially dive gaming, which brought her to the nerve gear. the doctors at the hospital she frequented at recommended she try out these dive games; they had recommended them to some other patients and when in games such as this they were able to regain that which they had lost, either sight or hearing. she nearly jumped at the opportunity. upon entering the game she was able to see, even though it was just images being sent to her brain and not her actual sight, it was enough for her.

    - : flaws
â— astrid is an incredibly impulsive person. this causes her to unintentionally get herself into situations where she in in danger of injuring herself or of complete humiliation.

â— she is also quite stubborn and possibly even loyal to a fault. being someone who has few friends, she latches on and trusts them quickly, because surely if someone is able to look past her disability, then they must be someone who is very important. so if a guild member is ever in trouble, she will do anything in her power to help them. to her, no one can ever be left behind or forgotten.

â— astrid also has very little self worth or self confidence, which makes her constantly get down on herself if she is unable to complete a task or makes a fool of herself.

    + : virtues
â— despite being someone who thinks negatively about themselves, astrid is actually a very positive person. whenever around friends a smile is always present on her lips. she believes that if she smiles, then the people around her will smile as well.

â— she is a very determined person, ready to improve herself in all ways. whenever given a task, come hell or high water she will accomplish it, even if people tell her that it's impossible.

â— astrid is also quite perceptive. due to her disability, her sense of touch, taste, smell, and especially hearing, are all heightened. she can tell if someone is lying due to the slightly higher octave of their voice or smell food from a large distance away. this comes in handy during battles, allowing her to assess her enemy and properly figure out the best range of attacks that would be most effective against them.
