  1. @ Setsuko

I understabd what your saying and this may seem strange to say but the game machanics and the roleplay of your chatacter are not the same thing. Game mechanis are based on how the game is run and how it was designed to hand out experiance. Yes we are all here to role play but that is not how a game works. You have to do something worth the effort to get rewarded. Sittibg in town talking, e-rping in the restricted, talking out of character. These are not aspects of the game. They are just things people want to do in rp. Let them do it, its fun but dont say their character is stronger than another becuase they like to talk to themselves more.

The main difference in your argument and mine is that when we hit a gap in how the canon interprets the game you try to fill it in with what you or the players would want. When I see the gap in the anime based on an mmo I try to fill in the gap with the way actuall mmos work.

Dont get me wrong. Im not saying posting isnt important or tkaing away peoples post counts. Power to the active members. But if all they care about is rping and not the actuall training of their character then level shouldn't matter. Im not suggesting removing any posts. Just saying that there should be a cap on how high u can get based on what floor the game is on. Anyone with posts over those levels would get boosted up once floor groups are completed which would make more people want to get involved in the clearing effort. But I digress. Im not trying to change anything. Just giving my perspective.

  2. this board is based after the principles of of an mmo and so every time a question is drawn about ow sighting should be done that's where i go for reference. The level by post is not a terrible thing however the way it is managed is. if the only way a person could level their character was by roleplaying then it would make a little sense as to what they are leveling up. however given a board where you can post anything anywhere and it makes your sao character stronger just doesn't make sense. that's like saying my Old Republic character is leveling up while I'm at. I mean I'm still doing things in my life so why am I not leveling up on the game? because in a game you only level up when your playing it.

now that's not even true now is it? see playing a game doesn't just make me level up. i can be logged into to a safe zone rping with my friends and i don't level up. why is that? well because the game doesn't reward you for not playing it even if your logged in. all the people stuck on floor one aren't leveling up just because they are existing and talking and whining about how shitty being stuck in the game is. yet the vast majority of posts people rp either are from out of game posts or from rping with no actual game play.

lastly in a game there is a diminishing return of experience. you don't get the same amount of experience for killing a mob at level 3 than you do at level 10. in most game if you get 5 levels over an enemy you no longer are getting experience because the game knows this is not a challenge for you. and yet here we are still on level 9 and we have people who are in the high 30s. this would be impossible in an actual mmo. all this does is cause problems because there's no way to scale the boss battles to be challenging for everyone. we either make it acceptable for low to mid level players and it be too easy for the high level players, or we make it challenging for the high level characters and the low level ones will die constantly.

and that's really the biggest complaint of the entire system. the fact that people can get to level 40 when the game hasn't progressed past level 9. level by post is all well and fine if it makes sense in the game. if the max level you could reach was determined by the level we are on, or even if it was just set by the forum group it would work. like if the max level is 15 until we broke level 10. then the max level would go up to 25. always staying 5 levels above the highest floor in that forum. doesn't matter how its designed.

the only way leveling by post would work as a true game mechanic of the game is if you only got post count in the rp area, and there was a level cap depending on the power of the floor. I know this is not going to be popular and i don't expect anyone to want it because they would lose there levels and there edge against other players, but it is the only way the game would work. after all how could people threaten others in the Skype calls if they aren't 20 levels higher than the person they are threatening...

  3. the warm simulated air felt good in comparison to the cold of floor 4 where he had been spending much of his time. it wasn't as if he didn't like the cold but a change a venue was nice. it helped to distract him from the thoughts racing in his mind. He looked down out towards the sand dunes, ever vigilant of roaming mobs. He clinched his fist as the sand mirages mixed with is delusions. He saw fields of white before him slain with the blood of thousands. he heard the sounds of screams and terror but saw no battles. It was like reliving a horrific battle of the past or divining a tragedy yet to pass. His pulse quickened and his eyes dilated making the brought suns glare bleach out his vision. His breath slowed and deepened and his hands glitched tighter. all other stimulus started to fade as his mind drifted further and further into this idea of tragedy.

"Sama-kun-sensei-senpai," her voice cut through his delusion shredding the hallucination and snapping him back to reality in a rush. keeping his face still, his eyes darted to the girl to his side. "Im fine" he said quietly but confidently, trying to mask his disorder. He forgot he was waiting for a player this whole time. he hated the idea of teaming up with an unknown player and the newest recruit of the guild. The truth was, he was growing detached from the guild as a whole. while they still had the same goals, it seemed they were going about it a different way than he wanted. people were coming and going as they pleased. others only took form the guild resources and never contributed. He constantly saw the rise of players he felt undeserving just because they were a higher level. how was he supposed to respect the guild when someone was promoted to be equal to a founding member when they had yet to do one thing for the guild. He had begun to question the motivations and decisions of his guild leader and long time friend. Still one can not survive alone in this game. it was the reason alone that he waited for the unknown player. if he was going to survive he needed players he understood and could trust their motives.

  4. The beast in desperation lept into the air slamming down sending a shock wave outwards. 9Lives Charged forward flipping over the concussive shock wave. he landed on his feet running and crossed his arms extending the blade under his left arm which charged his attack. Reaching the perfect range he activated and disappeared into the flash step. instantaneously landing behind the creature with his sword extended out from the cut. Flicking his sword as if cleaning the blood form it, he then sheathed Aitsuu. as the creature exploded into polygons behind him. His eyes were wide with exhilaration with the smallest smirk on his face. He looked back at Saix as if wanting another creature to show up so the combat didn't have to stop.

    Saix: 23/25

    9Lives: 17/17

    Lisbeth: 15/17

    Snow Beast: 0/100 HP

  5. The creature seemed impaired by the onslaught of damage that the trio had delivered. 9Lives stood his ground holding the position. The creature was failing to even register hit boxes. he lifted his blade once again into gasumi. charging his attack. The Snow beast had eaten one of his phantom moon strikes already and 9Lives was going to deliver another. Lashing out in the air the Gengetsu wave flew forward cutting into the Beast chest.

    Combat Dice: 8

    Damage: 1 +2 +4 = 7

    Saix: 24/25

  6. Nine didn't need a pep talk. he lived for the battle. it was odd but didn't know what he prefered more. a difficult battle where he watched his health dwindle and fought for his life, or when he clearly dominated the battle like he was now. Maybe these were irrelevant conditions. Combat was the only time he felt in control and focused. it was the only time he could prove his worth to his party and guild. Seeing the Creature buckle from the recruits attack allowed the perfect opening for him to strike the creatures head. He stepped into Gasumi and his blade began to glow. Activating he swung his blade through the air sending a wave of energy into the air that cleaved through the Monsters face with devastating result.

    Combat Dice: 10

    Damage: 1 +2 +4 +2 = 9

    Saix: 24/25

    9Lives: 17/17

    Lisbeth: 17/17

    Snow Beast: 33/100

  7. Combat was going exceedingly well which was nice for a change. He had to admit that the new recruit was holding her own. it was rare that someone proved worthwhile in a battle instead of being cannon fodder. The recent boss battle had shown that given enough damage, strategy was pointless but this was not the case with this trio. they had a plan that worked brilliantly. Charging up to the side of the Snow beast, he stopped in range touching the tip of his blade the ground to charge his attack then activated . The three strike combo tore through beasts leg dealing considerable damage before he leapt back and began circling to stay out of its range.

    Combat Dice: 6 +2 = 8

    Damage: 1 +2 +4 = 7

  8. 9Lives turned and prepared to evade but the attack help its lock on Saix attacking him fiercely. True to his word, he was set quite well as a tank which was odd to 9Lives but it seemed that Saix had been trying to stretch out in all directions. Maybe thats what happens when your in charge of a guild that's growing rapidly. 9lives stayed out of the politics and recruitment for the most part and probably wasn't the best second in command. But what he lacked in social standing, he made up for in his ruthless battle ability. Arcing back around he sheathed his blade changing his next attack then activated .

    Battle Die: 6+2 = 8 success

    Damage 1+2+4 = 7 Damage

    9Lives: 17/17

    Lisbeth: 17/17

  9. 9Lives watched his health bar diminish as the pods slowly ate away at his HP. It invigorated him to ride so close to a very real death in an imaginary world. With the Pods dead and the group attacking the Boss, he took a moment to drink a health potion. There was no sense in dying in this battle when they had it almost beaten. With a portion of his health bar returned, 9Lives charged in sheathing his blade and charging his sword skill. Reaching the proper range He activated Dashing forward slashing upwards cleaving viciously through the toppled Boss's face. Getting to notification for a critical hit, He rolled backwards taking a defensive position.

  10. essentially what it comes down to is what would you do with it. were not against its use but implementing an entire new system into the game has to have direction. Like i responded to the cooking thread, what would you do with fishing? what do fish do for you if you catch them? what does getting a better roll on your fishing mean?

professions have to serve a purpose in game for us to make a system for their use. I welcome any ideas that would contribute to this idea. like cooking, if we see interest in it and ideas as to how you would like it to work, we will review it and discuss implementing a new system to the game.

  11. 9Lives was not amused by the antics of the ape or the new attitude that he had hoped Saix would drop, but neither were looking like they would end any time soon. Nine positioned himself for the assault ignoring the recruits inquiry as to tactics. He wasn't going to tell her how to survive. she either proved her worth or would be struck down. Saix had already coddled her more than she had earned. If he so desired to be the heroic figure, than he could guide her. Saix attacked first drawing the creatures aggro. As a tank Saix would work to keep the the creators attention. 9lives drew Aitsuu swiftly as he took off to get into range for his sword skills. Crossing his arms with his blade over he left shoulder he charged for his attack.

    Battle Die: 5+2 = 7 success

    Damage 1+2+2 = 5 Damage

His sword Shined teal activating <> 9lives disappeared instantly appearing on the other side of the Monster. His flash step attack to fast for the game to process the animation, he simply landed crouched behind the beast. with his blade extended out to the right having sliced through the monster perfectly. He quickly lept back to his feet and used sprint to get out of the monsters attack radius while calling out "Switch!"

    Saix: 25/25

    9Lives: 17/17

    Lisbeth: 17/17

    Snow Beast: 87/100

  12. 9Lives licked his lips at her retort. it was cunning and showed attitude without coming off as cocky or defensive. he enjoyed her retort as a his smirk and eyes widened. Seeing her equip the axe and other items he reached for Aitsuu placing his left hand on the tsuka. "I suppose we will see how true that statement is." he said coldly despite the amused look on his face. His attention shifted as Saix broke the conversation. Nine only turned with a look that said nothing more than "lets get on with this." He mused at the idea of this girl and her sharp tongue.

Part of him wanted to see her fail and fall apart in battle just to see her bravado wilt in the sun. but he also wanted to see someone so bold to nonchalantly dismiss his tactful however malicious comment, to succeed in the ranks of the Vanguard. He had grown tired of the trivial white wash masses who called themselves a vanguard. It was like a sickness to the heart of a guild that had now walked a path on the edge of what he envisioned and worked to produce. perhaps with more members where offered more than a weapon to swing at a target they were directed, would bring back some semblance of what he sought to be apart of. Perhaps it would bring back the decisive leader Saix was before he lost himself to this contagious soft hearted archetype he adorned every time one of the weaker players needs help or motivation. they deserved death for their weakness, not coddling.

his deviation thoughts filled with hatred became overwhelmed and suppressed by the growing sense of anticipation he had before. They were getting close to the mission location and when Saix pointed at the skull directing it as the start of the battle, 9Lives smiled then took off into the Canyon towards the skull. He wanted the battle. He needed to feel his heart race and his blood boil. His sword hungered for death and he would sate its appetite this day.

  13. 9Lives rolled his eyes at Saix's speech as he tried so poignantly prepare the troops. He spit onto the snow at the notion of Saix over done heroic monologue. It was irritating that Saix became this persona around the younger and weaker willed players. let them stay if they didn't have the courage to venture forth, and let them die if they didn't have the will to survive. Still Saix went on with a nostalgic look pondering his agenda with hopeful ignorance. When he opened his inventory and gave forth weapons, Nine folded his arms. he understood that they would need good items to defeat the monster. Even so it really drew a clear difference between the two players. 9Lives would never give out items to someone who hadn't earned.

Nine hopped down from the fence with a sadistic smile. his head cocked to the side. "Whats wrong little girl? do you need a tutorial as well or are we ready for some blood shed?" he said cold and sadistically. his exhilaration was fading between the awkward frailty of the girl and the melodramatic speech of Saix. In truth he understood why Saix acted the way he did. not everyone could be enthusiastic about rushing into battle. Not everyone took the time to prepare their knowledge on the game to maximize their ability. most in fact relied strictly on having high levels and high hp to survive battles. they on the other hand were the few who understood the game and were able to play it without mindless grinding for HP.

  14. 9Lives turned his head to the new recruit who immediately looked nervous and apologized for being late. 9Lives eyes narrowed as he looked over the girl. His head tilted to the side as his face sank into disappointment. His head turned to face Saix as he comforted the recruit. She lacked confidence and that was already going to be detrimental to the group. Nine cracked his knuckles as Saix gave the usual welcome to the guild routine. Nine didn't usually accompany these invitationals, partly because his expectations were to high but mostly because he despised the masses. This mission was different. he had wanted to take a run at this quest since he first heard of it. Sure he could make a new sword, but Aitsuu was special to him and couldn't just be thrown out for a better item.

Saix went on about their mission and Nine turned back to watch the recruit. He doubted her resolve and her confidence. If she wasn't prepared for the task at hand then then description would send her packing. He gave a half smile as Saix mentioned the health of the monster. the notion of battle was building in anticipation. His smile grew sadistically as his mind drifted the ideas of combat. "It will be a glorious death, regardless of if it is its or ours." he said standing up from the post maintaining his balance as he rose.

  15. 9Lives stepped off the teleporter and hoped up on the fence to stay off the frozen floor. The air was refreshing and cold, bitter but brisk. He loved the 4th floor. Most players stayed away from the cold choosing to move ahead into the temperate climate floors. It made this floor his favorite by far. He pulled his hood up to keep the snow off his head. This was a mission he had been looking forward to for some time. A chance to upgrade his Aitsuu and fight a dangerous monster was exhilarating. Saix had mentioned bringing a potential new guild member to the battle which was the only down side to the day. 9Lives didn't like most of the guild members they already had, of those he actually knew. to be fair, 9Lives didn't like most people regardless of guild status. He couched on the fence post impatiently waiting for their recruit.
