  1. "Why am I even doing this?" Elio muttered under his breath. "What do I think I'm gonna do, start climbing floors? Risk death? What for? This game is impossible. We're trapped in here. Maybe this is some sick social experiment, and they want to see how long we last before we go mad. Maybe they want to see how long we'll survive before giving up."

Regardless of his fears, Elio continued on to the workshop, unable to provide reasoning as to why. Soon enough, his distance marker flashed, and with a beep! it vanished. He had arrived.

Standing outside of the workshop was an elderly man with a floating Quest icon above his head. Elio's heart skipped a beat. Why am I so excited? This is pointless. This is just something to do. It's not as if I want to start clearing floors and risking my life for this game. No, this is pointless.

  2. According to the chatter Elio had overheard from his years in the Town of Beginnings, there was an NPC craftsman in a workshop on the eastern side of town. This NPC supposedly offered a Quest titled "The First Few Lessons are Free," a fitting name for an initial Quest. Swiping the air and opening the map for the town, Elio located the general area of the workshop and placed a marker. A pointer with a distance tracker appeared at the edge of his line of sight, directing him towards the NPC building.

Elio casually started walking in the direction of the cursor, hoping he appeared nonchalant to anyone who may be watching him. Excitement, though, flooded his heart, as much as he didn't want to admit it. The idea of this game truly excited him, but the aspect of death and the dependency on other players required to get higher up had demotivated him from attempting to level before now.

  3. Elio had never bothered with most of the game mechanics, having little desire to climb the tower and risk his life for this death game. Recently, though, something had been stirring in his stomach, some feeling of inadequacy. There must be more to do than wandering the first floor of this place. The Town of Beginnings had been cleared so long ago that Quest information was easy to come by. Rumor had it that the best way to really get into the "game," if you could call it that, was to complete a few of the starter quests of F1. They'd teach you about the game mechanics, improve your skills, and maybe get you a bit of loot. I suppose there's no reason not to try a Quest, thought Elio. If I somehow manage to die on the first Quest on the first floor, then I'm clearly not meant to survive this death game anyway. I just can't sit around here forever.

  4. Startled, Elio jerked his head towards the voice. Standing before him was a man he didn't recognize. What on Earth...? He averted his gaze to the ground sheepishly.

"I'd appreciate that, thank you... but who are you?"

Sitting down again with a sigh, Elio took a moment to study the figure before him. Judging by the gear, the stranger was most likely just a starter like himself, perhaps slightly more advanced. Cringing, Elio thought of his own armor and weapon, hoping the man wouldn't pay too much attention or ask questions. After all this time, I still haven't bothered to change out my starter gear. At least he's not some front-liner... this would be a lot more awkward if I had to face one of the best. He shuffled in his seat uncomfortably, hoping the waiter would come by soon to relieve the awkwardness evident between the two players.

    Real Name: Iwasaki Eiji

    Age: 20

    Gender: Male

    Height: 5'9

    About:

Abandoned at the age of two, Iwasaki harbors a deep mistrust of people in general, especially those in authority. Being a quiet technological genius, he was bullied at the orphanage and sometimes beat up, worsening his ties with society. He left the orphanage as soon as he was eighteen and quickly found himself employed with a graphics company, although his personal passion is to create a game for the NerveGear. In his free time, he often went through games looking for inspiration. He found this and more in Sword Art Online, and used this game as a getaway from the real world.

Iwasaki -- under the name Elio -- tends to stay as a solo player, only teaming if necessary. He does not trust easily, and if things get tough, he isn't afraid to kill those who endanger him or the rare few that he cares for. He doesn't have many friends, but neither does he have many enemies; he is simply withdrawn. If someone does manage to befriend him, he is extremely loyal and defensive.

    Virtues:

    • Intelligent: Elio has an astounding knowledge of the tech world. He enjoys knowing all he can about in-game mechanics. He formulates plans well.

    • Defensive: Elio is very cautious in sticky situations. He is good at protecting himself, whether that be by fighting or fleeing. Though it is rare, if he finds someone he truly cares for, he would die for that person. He will not allows others to hurt them in any way.

    • Strong-willed: Usually Elio is in one of two states: uncaring or extremely determined. If he has a goal in mind, he will reach it the best he can. He is not to be veered off course by anyone. He can get done what he needs to.

    Flaws:

    • Ruthless: Sometimes ambition can lead to ruthlessness, and this is certainly the case for Elio. As he does not trust most people, he is not overly inclined to care about their well being. As long as his goals are accomplished, other people may get hurt in the process. He would like them to stay out of his way.

    • Distrustful: From abandonment to the orphanage, Elio has never really had good experiences with people in general. People in authority remind him of his deserting parents; he tends to fear them. Others are usually viewed as deceitful.

    • Fearful: Though independent, Elio's life has caused him to be afraid of many things. He doesn't like the dark, heights terrify him, authorities freak him out. A large range of circumstances may cause Elio to lose his cool.

    Story Thus Far:

Having been trapped in the famous VRMMORPG "Sword Art Online," Elio stayed to himself, refusing to interact with most game mechanics for about two years. Eventually, his passion to help others and his curiosity tugged on his heart, drawing him to start some initial quests.

  6. Drinking hot chocolate is getting old, thought Elio, sitting on a cafe chair within the Town of Beginnings. Why am I still here, letting other people do my work for me on the front lines? Is it worth risking my life to get out of this pathetic town? He took another sip of his drink before noticing a tall figure walking over to the cafe. Averting his gaze, Elio gazed at the steam rising from his mug. There are so many players still here in this blasted town. What are we all doing here; what are we waiting for? We're all in the same boat here. We're all stuck. What makes the assault team different from the rest of us? Why are they willing to risk their lives as we sit back on the first floor?

Frustrated and deep in thought, Akki stood up promptly, spilling his drink in the process. He glared at the particles as the item despawned.

Of course, I'm sure anyone on site would be willing to help you if you'd just ask them to help you on a thread, myself included. Or you could completely solo, whichever you prefer.

I would very much appreciate you (or anyone) helping me out with a thread!

Well, I highly advise reading the rules and such before you start much of anything, and if you need any help or clarification on anything, just DM a staff member on site or on the ask-a-staff channel in the discord.

Sure, thank you! Is there some way I could get into a little RP to help me learn the basics?

Hullo! Welcome back! And yeah, we're still pretty active! Have you made a journal yet?

Yes I have! I think it was approved. I don't really know how to play, though, I've looked at the guide but there's SO much information there. I don't know how to get started.

  11. When I made my account I didn't understand how the site works and just chose my usual username. Since I will likely have my character die at some point, have to delete this count, and restart, I'd like to change my username to Akii. Is that possible?

Another quick question - as I don't have infinite email addresses, I assume most people delete their account once their character dies and use the same email to make a new account?

    Howdy!

Not exactly a PST, but helpful all the same.

If you want to start out, you're going to need a character journal completed.  You can read a small snippet of the rules with a template journal ----> Here

In the meantime, if there are any questions, let me know.  If there is anything rule questions, then please message a PST (Staff member) for anything.  Also we have a Discord that you can join us in.  It doesn't matter which one you choose, as one of us is always there.

    Thank you very much!
