  1. "Apologies, she gets like this a lot." Shin said in monotone after he hit Spangie on the head before pulling her back by the collar. She was talking with him one minute, being as hyper as usual, and then the next minute, she noticed what he glanced at out of boredom and ran after that thinking it the same as a cute dog. As usual, she has a really odd sense of what's cute. Shin thought to himself having managed to stop her in her tracks. Even though he wouldn't consider this Cereberus to be cute, he as well showed no fear despite being rather close in proximity to the three headed dog. At most, he looked bored as well as slightly irritated from having to deal with Spangie's antics. "Now then apologize." He said to Spangie, a hint of an older brother or parental tone mixed in with his voice which lacked emotion.

  2. "Ah, it's you again. I really do keep running into you too often." Shin said in response, a light irritation behind it. "Why are you tired? We don't have physical stamina." He inquired. "And you were searching for me?" Why am I here anyway? It's too hot... He couldn't help but think to himself in annoyance. He had no reason to be here unlike last time which had something to do with food. Because of that, he had no idea why he was here, in the same spot he had met up with Kanaria again of all places. It was way too much of a coincidence.

    He then noticed a man with a hell hound. So there are those kinds of tamable monsters as well. Shin couldn't help but observe  as the tamer was getting noticeably hot while his pet was prancing around as if it were frolicking through the fields. Well, I'm less likely to get a hell hound now. I'd rather not be stuck in this heat...

  3. She has no idea where she's going. Shin thought with an inner sigh as he noticed the slight moment in hesitation before she turned towards a certain direction and just went with it. Well, he had no reason to call her out on it so he let it be, keeping on a face of indifference. Arabelle seemed to be rather eager to ask him stuff as shown from her mischievous smile and it sort of put him on guard though he didn't show it. She had simply asked him why he used the username of Shin, perhaps as a way to bring in follow up questions. Well, it wasn't as if there was anything that would be informative in his answer so he went along with it.

    "I merely took a random kanji and put it in a name generator before choosing one that would sound normal." He explained simply without much change in his expression. It's not as if he took inspiration from his own name or somebody else's. He was just lazy and decided to let the name generator make some names for him. He then noticed another potion ingredient, picking that up shortly after giving his answer. "Found another one." He said in monotone. He decided to ask his own question. "Why are you in Japan? You're definitely a foreigner from your looks and that accent tells me you aren't from here. Did you really come to a different country and learn a new language just to play a game? What a hardcore gamer." Though he said this in his normally emotionless tone, this was the closest to teasing he'll get.

    (OOC: Thank goodness for the dice requirements going down to 11 for this quest lol)

    (OOC 2: And I didn't know what you had in mind for Arabelle's nationality/home country as it wasn't in the journal so I just listed her as a foreigner in Japan due to SAO being there. If she is from Japan, I'll correct it.)

    @Arabelle

  4. "I found another one." Shin replied in a bored tone not too long after Arabelle answered his question about the amount of materials needed to finish the quest. He wondered how he got such luck, finding two out of the five he needed already and in an area normally barren of materials due to being so close to the safe zone. He decided not to question it, especially out loud. Though he tended to piss people just by speaking, he didn't actively try to piss people off so he thought to not talk about it much more.

    Arabelle had suggested going further along the path to have a better chance of finding the materials. "That's fine with me." Shin said in response and followed after Arabelle towards another location. "Need conversation to help manage your boredom?" He asked, knowing that both of them were bored as heck. This wouldn't be easy on the mind without something to distract them.

  5. She probably thinks I'm some odd animal or robot... Shin thought to himself as he noticed what appeared to be her trying to figure him out. While he could explain, he felt there was no need to explain things to her at the moment as it wasn't as if they were friends nor was she involved with it. Also, it would have been a big pain in the butt and a waste of energy to deal with questions that would come afterwards. He felt that he did owe an explanation to Kanaria but that was because of her relation to his past. He had forgotten to ask for her in game name so that would make things more annoying to find her.

    "I don't believe we will be required to deal with combat but I have my rapier which I believe will be sufficient." Shin tapped his rapier which was at his hip. "Let's get this done and over with." A few steps after they had left the gates, he had already found one of the materials he needed for the quest. "Found one." He said though bored. "We need five of them or something right?"

    (OOC: Didn't expect one so soon XD)

  6. "I see." Shin replied simply, his facial expression unchanging as he accepted her answer. "Honestly, they should have just said to go out and gather the materials. We can move these bodies as if they're our own so we could just find it and pick it up. What a waste of energy." He knew this sort of thing was a staple in games but when you could just go out and pick it up yourself, a tutorial about it seemed redundant and irritating to Shin who disliked wasting energy unnecessarily.

    ."Makes sense." Shin could see the logic behind her explanation though he felt some slight condescension in her tone. Though he preferred to work alone, he wasn't so inflexible that he wouldn't put up with working with others, especially if the situation called for it which it kinda did. The other half of it was one of his remaining emotions to protect others. If there was a chance of an attack, he would do his utmost to protect. "Fair enough, I will go along with it." As he said this, his hand had rested on his rapier. "We'll watch each other's backs I suppose."

    "Nice to meet you then Arabelle." Shin said in response, opting for the more formal route rather than using the nicknames she had brought up. They didn't know each other all that well after all. She seems to be able to shift gears quickly. He noted to himself.

    @Arabelle

  7. "That was the start of my life thrown into chaos." Shin said in monotone in response to her saying that meeting her was a good thing. While he was much more cheerful as a child, her idiocy and occasional wild antics still drove him crazy a lot. All of a sudden, his mouth was moved in a forced smile. As this was not an attack, Shin didn't resist as that would just waste more energy. His expression with the forced smile and the bored eyes looked hilarious.

    "Ah, am I supposed to be your wingman on some date?" Shin said something sorta close to a joke though it was still emotionless. This was from how the term Friend A was usually for describing the friend who was the wingman of a person trying to get a date. "I'm afraid I would be a terrible wingman." He said emotionlessly.

    "I want to reach the front lines so I can help get everyone out even a little bit faster. Even if it kills me." His self sacrificial nature had popped out as he stated his motivation which actually had some emotion this time. Albeit only a serious tone of voice but that was still better than nothing.

    @Spangie

  8. "What I remember the most huh? Doesn't seem all that pleasant. Some people have bad memories after all." Shin said with a more bitter expression on his face. He briefly remembered the most prominent memory in his brain which was the car crash and resulting fire that changed him into who he was now.

    Shin just stood there in silence as Apricot the baby phoenix, he still thought it was a dumb name, started getting in Kanaria's face. His facial expression as usual was unchanged. Once that was over, she asked him to help. "Do you even need help on this quest? This is the 22nd floor, there are no monsters." He said in monotone. "Well, you'd just drag me along anyway and it'd be more of a pain to be dragged along so I'll go."

    "I gotten a little stronger. Not strong enough though." Shin said sounding as if he didn't care. At the same time, he wanted to get people out of here as soon as possible.

    @Spangie

  9. Shin already got the gist of gathering from before and had only reacted when it was time for him to accept the quest. He clicked on the accept button and had left the home shortly afterward. Now the two of them were headed towards the fields outside of town. In a virtual reality world like this, you'd think they wouldn't need to explain how to pick up something... He couldn't help but think this to himself as he found the idea of it somewhat irritating.

    "That was rather boring. It seems like you also zoned out." Shin said to Arabelle in a tone that sounded more like observance rather than judging. "With such a boring yet easy quest, why did you feel the need to do it with somebody?" He had come back to that question from earlier before they walked into Zachariah's home.

    "I'm Shin by the way." He said rather curtly but he thought it'd be a pain to be called other things because he didn't make his name clear.

    @Arabelle

  10. "Why do I keep running into you?" Shin said, having come across Kanaria again. The 22nd floor apparently had no monsters in the field so it was deemed safe unless you took on that fishing quest. So he had decided to check it out despite his level. And of course the person he has to run into was his so called childhood friend Kanaria. She had skipped off before telling him her in game name so he didn't know it and most likely vice versa as Shin hadn't bothered to mention it. "I guess you heard of quest here regardless of your level but because you just remembered the floor number, you wanted to get help?" He said in his usual bored tone. "This is floor 22, there are no monsters here." It was the only peaceful floor in this death game. The only exceptions being the area around the boss and the monster fish. "So what's the quest this time?"

    @Spangie

  11. It seemed that the girl was also taking the quest and was looking for a quest partner. Shin wasn't looking for one himself as it was just gathering materials but it seemed she was. His guess was that it'd make the quest less boring to deal with. He knew where she'd be coming from if that were the case as he thought this mission would be a pain in the butt. The only reason he was doing this was for the extra experience points. "I hadn't been planning on looking for one as it was just looking for materials." Shin said honestly, his facial expression unchanging in response to her friendly smile. He felt some kind of ulterior motive behind it anyway. To be fair though, he had trouble trusting people in general so this was nothing new. But for some reason, he felt it especially from her. "Why were you looking for a quest partner?" He asked in turn.

    "Well, might as well enter the place." Shin said before walking into the workshop himself. "Excuse me, we've come here to take the quest." He said in monotone though it had a bit of politeness in it to greet the quest giver.

    "Ah, welcome you two. Looks like you're ready to get started on your journey. Through your time here, you shall learn the basics of the game and hopefully that knowledge will be used to your advantage." The man named Zackariah said when he noticed the two players. As he was a tutorial NPC, or course he'd break the mold of referring to this as a game despite the other NPCs not doing so.

    @Arabelle

  12. "And I hadn't even thought about familiars until you dragged me on this quest. I've had less time than you to think of anything." Shin argued back using logic. Spangie then went on, testing new ideas for names until the bird happily chirped at one it seemed to like. And thus, the little bird was now named Apricot because of whatever odd sense of logic that ran through the girl's head. Shin didn't know. To be fair though, he wouldn't have made any better names nor did he feel like doing it in the first place so he let her be in regards to the name.

    And now, they were finally going back to the town as they have now finished the quest. I'm surprised she can keep up that energy in this heat... Shin thought to himself with a groan as he was almost ready to collapse himself. Well, he wouldn't actually collapse. he wasn't that weak, but he was really annoyed by the heat. Now I wonder how many times I'll be dragged along by this girl in this world. He thought to himself as they had reached town.

  13. "I wouldn't know, I haven't met any other monster tamers." Shin said honestly though his voice still showed no emotion regarding this. He indeed had not met any other monster tamers so he wasn't aware of any growth system for tamed monsters other than leveling. "Well, it appears to like you."

    "I'm afraid my naming sense is no good, especially with cute names. I would have thought you had a name in mind already so I'll leave that to you." Shin said in response. He heard her laugh evily and had an idea why. She always was trying to show him up in some way. "And I never said it wasn't a good omen. I was making sure your head was still intact. Regardless of omens and the like, the monsters here could easily kill us at our level." For once, there was a faint hint of emotion in his voice. He had a few flashbacks of people who were already killed on floor 1.

  14. "At the very least, you're easy to read to me." Shin replied simply. "Even though we haven't seen each others for years, you still have the same habits. It makes you easy to deal with." And manipulate. He kept that last thought to himself as that may be taking it a bit far. She seemed really upbeat about all this anyway. As long as it didn't get too annoying, he'd rather not ruin her mood. She'd be more of a pain to deal with if that were to happen.

    They had begun just walking through the desert themed fields. Shin was surprised that they hadn't run into any monsters yet. Well, hostile monsters anyway. This was something he was glad for as they'd probably be wiped out if they did have such an encounter due to level difference. It was common knowledge for this death game to try and stay on floors where you are at least 10 levels higher than the floor number after the first and second floors.

    It surprised him even more that they had found a monster that his childhood friend had become enamored with so quickly as well. It appeared to be a little bird of fire. Spangie went and tried to befriend it and it worked. "Congratulations." Shin said monotonously. "That was faster than I expected honestly.

  15. "You crossed your fingers behind your back didn't you?" Shin said, still sounding bored. She had done that a lot during their childhood so he had gotten used to it by now. Also, she seemed the type to use technicalities to make sure she wasn't restricted. "Well, not that I care, just don't be too irritating." He said in a bored tone. He wouldn't actually abandon her and leave her alone but he had to get her to tone it down somehow.

    "Let's go find a slime then, they're easy to find. We can go home faster then." Shin said in response to her saying she'd be fine with most anything for a familiar. "It's way too hot here..." He simply didn't like the heat which is why he wanted to finish this quickly. She then said stuff about omens and why it was good to do it on this hot floor. "And what makes you think that?" He asked, partially out of annoyance

  16. "Most anyone can tell what basic equipment looks like and yours looks like it." Shin said simply. He was surprised she didn't get that meaning the first time. Maybe she's actually that oblivious... Shin thought to himself with a sigh. After he said he'd help, she got annoying again. He wondered if she really wasn't doing this on purpose. "I'll change my mind if you get any more annoying. Let's get going." He said as he started walking with her to the gates leading out of the safe zone.

    She began to ponder what sort of familiar she'd want. "I feel kinda doubtful they have anything of the normal variety here. It is supposedly a fantasy world." He replied in monotone. "If there is such a thing, it'd probably be fire breathing or diving into shadows. What makes you think you can tame a beast on this floor anyway?" He asked as they were reaching the gate."

    @Spangie

  17. Spangie was being over hyperactive and cheerful about all of this despite their situation. It made Shin want to hit her again. "Pkers wouldn't need me to say that. Most people could tell with a glance." He stated the obvious in his usual tone of indifference though there was some worry. And it just reinforced the idiotic painter image he had of her in his mind.

    She then continued to pester him to come along and it was really getting on his nerves. "Too noisy." He said simply before hitting her on the forehead again, this time by knocking on it with his knuckles. "You're as annoying as back then. But I know that you'd go out there on your own even if I didn't come along. It's a pain but it looks like I have to come along." There was no way a level 1 by themselves could take on the fifth floor on their own. If he came along, their chances were better.

  18. Shin could only stare blankly at the girl's words which she clearly did not put much thought into. Yup, still an idiot. He thought to himself with a sigh. Some things just don't change, even after 6-7 years. "I don't really feel like indulging myself too much because of the situation we're in. While our virtual bodies won't wither away, our physical bodies will. There's only so much a hospital can do to keep us alive in the real world." He said in reply, reminding Kanaria of their situation despite how nice and pretty it looked.

    She then continued the conversation from earlier and asked him to help her on her quest. Shin couldn't help but give a groan of annoyance. "You seem to still be in your starting equipment and you already want to go on the fields of floor 5?" He couldn't help but sigh at her idiocy. Though he knew he couldn't leave her alone, regardless of how big a pain she was.

  19. "An idiot is still an idiot." He's said this in the past but rather in a teasing tone like before, he just said this in a blunt tone this time. It seemed that didn't faze her as she was still bouncing around all excitedly. Just watching her was making Shin tired as she began telling him what she was up to. He already had some trouble dealing with her when they were children but now she was even more excitable. This is why he didn't talk with the artsy people so often. They tended to be rather flighty. "Trying to get out doesn't really leave time for sightseeing. Though I will admit they went above and beyond for the scenery. It's almost sickening that it was used for a death game." He said with a frown. "So what's this quest you're probably going to bug me about?" He asked with a sigh, remembering what she originally came up to him for.

  20. "On the chance that you weren't you, it'd be too much of a pain and it'd be a waste of energy to apologize for the mistake." He stated rather bluntly. Kanaria then started explaining her circumstances that lead up to her being stuck here as well. They seemed rather standard. Somebody, her parents, had gotten her the nerve gear and the game and then she got caught up in it. Then she explained how she just wanted somebody to help her. "So you decided to ask somebody you didn't know? You really are the idiotic painter from back then." Again, she didn't know before she got a look at him.

    She then asked how he's been. "Could be better." He replied simply. "We're stuck in this death game after all." He said this in his usual monotone voice, intentionally staying away from the cause of him moving away. "How about you?"

  21. "So loud." Shin said before finger flicking the girl in front of him in the forehead out of nowhere. As it was not regarded as an attack nor would it have done her any damage in the first place, the barrier that would have normally come up for an attack didn't appear and let his finger land a direct hit. "So it was you after all." Minato said with an air of indifference. Though it wasn't as though he didn't care. It's just that a reminder of the past all of sudden appearing gave him some mixed feelings which he tried to keep under his normal mask. "It's been 7-8 years I suppose Kanaria. I knew that face looked familiar." He said with a bored expression and his voice equally matched it. "So? Why were you going around trying to talk to strangers in a death game?" He asked with slight concern tinged in his normal monotone. He was already aware that being overly trusting in this situation where they could die was fatal but Kanaria seemed to not know of that. Even though it ended up being him, she did try to ask him before she realized who he was.

  22. It's way too hot... Shin said in a somewhat irritated voice, irritation being one of the few emotions he showed somewhat often besides his normally expression of indifference. If I had known, I wouldn't have come here... He had been told by an acquaintance that there was a place with some good food, one of the few things he actually enjoyed nowadays, but with all this heat, he was beginning to think it was too bothersome to continue searching for it. He'd rather just go back to the first floor which was much cooler and eat something there.

    It was then he noticed something in the corner of his line of sight. It was just an old lady, probably an NPC, talking to a girl who seemed to be a fellow player. Nothing odd there. But he felt something familiar when he looked at the girl. Her face reminded him too much of his past before the accident as he began to recall some of the times a girl around his age kept trying to impress him with paintings. It looks like even here, I'm reminded of that idiotic painter. He said as he walked past them.

  23. Shin was just walking through the streets with his usual expression of indifference. Ever since the first day, he had already gone out and started fighting monsters since he knew that the only way to get out was to get stronger and beat the game. Not that he really cared about his own life all that much but it was more for the sake of the other people trapped here. For that reason, he was willing to put up with what he thought would be an annoying quest to gather materials for some potion maker. Normally, this sort of thing wouldn't gain him any experience points as opposed to going out into the field and fighting monsters but this seemed to be the first of four special quests to help you level up faster so he would put up with it. Pretty soon, he had arrived at the workshop of the man known as Zackariah. And it seemed that a girl with purple hair was there as well. Her weapon of choice, an axe, was the opposite type of weapon to his rapier. "I presume you're also taking the quest?" He asked with indifference and curiosity.

    About: History/personality

    Personality

    Minato is blunt, stoic, reserved, and calm, almost to the point of indifference. He rarely shows any emotion other than annoyance or boredom. He has extremely neutral viewpoints on life and death and is uncaring of either. Some people have even compared him to a mindless zombie. Because of his unnerving lack of interest and motivation, he often acts only when told to do so when he has no reason to refuse and takes on tasks with little, if any sense of self-preservation. Yet he's managed to get through life with relative ease, usually irritating and/or worrying people. Underneath this shell is a hidden kind side which is shown through how he cares for people even though he lacks the same amount of care towards himself. While still appearing indifferent, it's plain to see that he enjoys the companionship of others. This is proven by how his stony attitude instantly starts falling apart when those around him are in danger as it reminds him of what happened in the past.

    History

    Minato grew up as a normal child in a normal family. They weren't rich but it's not like they were poor. All in all, he lived a content life, spending time with friends, dealing with school, along with other little surprises and challenges that came with childhood. Unfortunately, these happy days ended when he was in middle school. He and his family had decided to go on a road trip and while they were on the road, tragedy had struck. A drunk driver had crashed into their car, Minato's mother barely pushing him out of the car in time. In a matter of minutes, he had lost his family to the flames. By some miracle, he had only suffered minor injuries but the scars in his heart were far more severe. Seeing his parents die right before his eyes had made him close his heart to the world and he began to appear half dead at all times. Even to those in the orphanage he was sent to he had only opened up a little. He couldn't even show a true smile.

    This continued on, even as he became an adult. The younger kids seemed to be attached to him though and he cared for them in turn in his own indifference appearing way. And he still checks in on them even after having moved out after graduating high school. One day, the orphanage decided to send him the nerve gear as a present, thinking that he could interact with people  in the game and hopefully restore his old self.

    Virtues:

    Fearless: Minato doesn't seem to know the meaning of the word fear. Well to be fair, he doesn't show much emotion to begin with. Minato just doesn't seem to care about how something is, regardless of how big or fearsome said thing is. He just treats it with the same amount of indifference that he does with most everything else.

    Efficient: Minato simply doesn't want to waste more energy than he should have to in order to finish what he's been tasked to do. Because of this, he's learned for himself how to do things the most efficient way possible. Examples include taking a shortcut through town or striking accurately at enemy's weak points. This also sometimes leads to him multitasking.

    Compassionate: Though he on the surface acts like he doesn't care for others, it is rather the complete opposite. The reason why he puts others at a distance initially is because he's afraid of something happening to them because of him. And though not appearing enthusiastic about life, he'll at least help fix whatever messes or troubles are in front of him.

    Flaws:

    Reckless: Though brave, his lack of self preservation at times gets him into trouble. While he's smart enough to back away or retreat when required or ordered to. it's a different story when somebody else is in danger. Minato would then put his life on the line to save that person regardless of situation.

    Blunt: Even before the accident, Minato tended to say what was on his mind, regardless of the other's feelings. This problem still persists to this day, making it harder for him to socialize. At the same time, this is his way of pushing others away.

    Lazy: If he doesn't have to do it, he won't do it unless he wants to. He doesn't want to expend his energy doing 'tiresome' or 'annoying' activities which usually leads to him generally declining most unimportant requests. This in turn may irritate some people who try to get him to socialize with other people.
