About: History / Personality

History: Nobu was born to an upper-class Japanese family, an only child, and was fortunate enough to have doting parents. His childhood was uneventful, his every want and whim provided by his parents, and Nobu went through a typical livelihood. He attended schooling, he did relatively well with grades, but his physicality remained his largest attribute. Nobu joined the high school wrestling team, the track team and the fitness club; he excelled in physical pursuits, and even served as the wrestling team captain for his senior year, earning an inter-school championship under his guidance.

When it came to hobbies, Nobu had very little available to escape his sports activities. His rigirous schedule among multiple clubs meant the teenager had very little downtime or opportunity to relax. It started to get so bad that Nobu began to feel burn out on those pursuits, and even started to feel physical injuries due to having little time to recover and rest. When Sword Art Online was announced, initially Nobu had little interest... yet, one of his wrestling team members insisted that the captain join him, to try and game, and so Nobu conceded and had his parents purchase a top of the line PC and game. It was a new world for the jock, who up until now had had very little to do with anything 'gaming'. He was hooked. Though, unfortunately like many others, Nobu became trapped inside the virtual reality world when he started playing...

Personality: Most of the time Nobu is loud, excitable and energetic. He is a jock through and through, however has retained a caring side unlike others labeled with that stereotype. Despite his confident and almost arrogant attitude, Nobu isn't simply a brute, and is very capable of forethought and planning to situations. That said, Nobu knows his avatar is physically imposing and matches his real world counterpart, so his personality tends to suit his actions and mannerisms; that said, Nobu is prone to outbursts of loud laughter, grins, deep scowls, arm punches to companions, and adopting heroic poses, among other things. When Nobu is in the room, he tends to stand out, for better or worse.

Because of his long history with team based sports and high stress competition, Nobu is very capable of working alone or in a group; he is also prone to being very calm in tense situations, having developed a strong capacity for controlled thinking under pressure. One didn't become the captain of the high school wrestling team by being skittish or prone to panic, after all. Nobu also has a deep loyalty to those he considers friends, and would do anything to keep his companions safe.

Deep down, Nobu has actually found a desire to delve into the game, to become fully immersed. His busy real life schedule offered little opportunity to relax, so he instead focuses on the positive that now he has all the time in the world to kickback, have fun and enjoy things until he's freed. And if he can make a few friends along the way, all the better!

Virtues / Flaws

⯅ Self-Assured: Nobu is brave, confident and has a strong sense of self. He has no shame, no regrets and apologizes for nothing. Since a young age, Nobu has been praised and supported, which gave him an extroverted personality filled with boisterous mannerisms and ways of dealing with things. He very rarely takes the silent reaction, even if that might be the best course for the situation.

⯅ Adaptable: Nobu has been raised in sporting environments, developing a natural ability to adapt to a range of criteria. So, whether it's acting solo, working in a well-established group, or teaming up with randoms, Nobu is able to work out the best way to fit in and do what needs to be done. And due to his experience as a team captain, Nobu is capable of leading and utilizing the strengths of his team members to a high degree.

⯅ Outgoing: Nobu isn't afraid to approach people and start talking about anything and everything. If there were a party, one might expect to find Nobu on the table in the middle of the crowd, singing at the top of his lungs to the crowd. As such, Nobu can either delight or annoy, with no real middle-ground; though over time, it's entirely possible that the loud, energetic teenager can grow on those around him.

⯆ Newb: Nobu is, simply put, a newb. He has very little experience with gaming, and only joined SAO when prompted by others on his wrestling team. He is willing to learn, but he definitely struggles, and it will likely take him a significant amount of time to shake off that unfamiliarity and become more capable in the gaming world. But, for now, he does the best he can - even if he can fail miserably at times.

⯆ Aimless: Nobu is aimless and has no real purpose. His time in SAO is seen as an escape from his hectic reality, so his need to be free of the game isn't that high, so he can be prone to bouts of laziness and disinterest in farming or clearing floors. This has the potential to rub people the wrong way, especially his more established group members, but ultimately it's a flaw Nobu needs to overcome and confront in the future. He can't keep running away from reality, by hiding behind virtual reality.

⯆ Overconfident: Nobu is prone to being overconfident, especially with his own skills (or lack thereof). He likes to talk a big game, but ultimately lacks any real skill to back it up, especially at such low levels. A lot of the time Nobu can bite off more than he can chew, but tends to make it through with help from others or dumb luck.

⯆ Spoiled: Nobu was raised in a rich family, given anything he wanted, so he is very entitled and feels things should just be given to him (especially without earning them). He isn't above trying to haggle or negotiate to his benefit, having irritated quest givers by asking for more SP or proposing odd compromises or deals. At the end of the day, Nobu wants more for Nobu, and he can become a bit cutthroat about it, truth be told.
