  1. The Zerix fellow seemed a bit on the shy side and Lessa was the more outgoing type. Mei herself wasn't quite a fan of either of those personality types but if they all wanted to get out of here together they'd have to work together. Besides, just because she didn't like a generalized sum of people didn't mean she would like the two of them. Setsu was better at talking anyway.

The group of four would find their way outside the safety of the first floors major settlement as they all made introductions. "Looks like all we have to do is find some of these materials that that Zachariah fellow mentioned and bring them back to him. Once we do that, we can ask him about that loan the mayor mentioned." Mei took stock of the area outside the city. Just about what you would expect. Flat land clearly showing the enemy separated by some distance to keep threat levels to a minimum for a new player. Small patches of trees would make some darkened areas where some tougher opponents might be found for someone getting their footing.

"The marker is surrounding a large area here so I assume we can just look around freely for the items. Hope this doesn't take too long." Mei commented out loud already sounding a slight frustrated with the idea of spending hours looking for plants in the dirt.

The fun of playing video games definitely wasn't set in these fetch quests. Mei hadn't played too many games in her life, but she knew enough to understand some of this early on frustration. Hopefully quests in the future would provide more action or adventure. "Ahem... So, why did you two decide to get a copy of the game, if you don't mind my asking. Me and Setsu are competitive kendo athletes if that's what you could call us. Setsu picked up the game for both us as a fun way to practice and relax."

The duo of players had hardly gotten feet away from the quest giver before being stopped by by others. First, a boy probably not much younger than her and Setsu. Given his short response, Mei could already tell he wasn't well versed with strangers. He seemed like someone who wouldn't offer much to a conversation unless given something to go off of. The other woman, quite the beauty from what she could tell while blindfolded, her armor suggested she wasn't such a new play like they were. At least by comparison.

"Hey guys!" Setsu would speak up before the girl offer a polite wave to them. He was always a better talked than her, so she would stand next to her best friend with a slight smile. "You'll be joining us on the quest? Cool! We look forward to working with you." Opening her menu, Mei would find the party list and send invites to the others so they could all be in the same party. Of course, they could ignore it if they wanted, it wouldn't really change the outcome of the quest.

"Let us continue." Mei would say quietly, turning to take the group towards their quest location. "Since he refrained from introducing us, allow me. My name is Meikyo Gekko - Mei for short. My friend here is Setsugekka - Setsu for short. We're both still level one, but looking to change that."

Soon after, the group would find themselves at Zachariah's hut. A medicine place for low level players it seemed. Upon entering, the kindly man would speak up. "I'm sorry younguns but I'm out of supply with all the orders I need to fill. If you want something, you'll have to go get the materials for me. I could use a little extra if you're willing to help me out."

"Ah, we just came to-" He would cut the girl off before she had a chance to explain their situation. "Yes, yes. You need some potions but I can't help you without proper ingredients. You can find herbs and such outside of the city walls. Come back when you've gotten some and I'll happily make you some."

The Samurai's expression might have been hidden behind a blindfold, but even still one could tell she was feeling somewhat exasperated by the situation. Considering the update to their quest, she assumed that they would have to do this task before they asked him about his debts. "Don't worry Mei, we get a little extra for helping him anyways. It can't hurt to go along with it."

"Potions would be useful for leveling up I guess. We can't rely on our skills outside the game to carry us the entire way." Despite never having played a video game like this before, she was aware that the digital world wouldn't always work like the real one. They would have to follow it's rules. "Well, shall we everyone?"

  3. The two silver-haired friends would find themselves in their normal venue of the first floor's main city: The Town of Beginnings. The place seemed to be thinning out more and more as the floors were cleared out above, but there were still quite a few people that had decided to stay behind and hope other could win their way out of here. All things considered, Mei was not happy about how long she had taken to get motivated to join them, but given the situation, who could really blame her? Even the brave could be afraid to die.

Her and Setsugekka (Setsu she called him for short) would get to work on leveling up their characters. Skill would not be enough alone to get her through these floors, after all. The two would soon be stopped by the mayor of the town, as the quest would start for just about everyone. He pleaded that they help him collect some loans from people he lent the money. "Is it not weird to entrust such a delicate transaction to a stranger?" Mei would question out loud, not offering much response from the NPC. "We should still help him Mei." Setsu would say as he accepted the quest. Mei didn't really argue with that.

They just had to go to Zack's shop and ask him for the money, right? It couldn't be so simple.

  4. A soft breeze filled the streets of Coral. Two clad in black stir the floor's teleportation terminal to life. He and she take a moment to soak in the rustic atmosphere of the city, then look upon each other. Meikyo would give her friend a soft grin. "This seems like a great place to practice the sword talent, don't you think?" Her alluring but soft tone hid her more serious nature for anyone looking on their conversation. "It looks like The Town of Beginnings, if not a little more home-y."

"Perhaps, but still, I like the atmosphere." The girl would proclaim as she stepped down the terminal, her heels clicking softly against the stone. The boy who was about her age would follow behind. Both of them were carrying wooden sticks that could be recognizable as Kendo Swords.

"Are you sure we can unlock the skill by doing something like this? There's no quest that we have to pick up?" The boy would ask his company. Her tone would increase slightly. "I'm sure. I've asked a few people who have already unlocked the skill how they got it, just to be sure. As long as we both have invested into Curved Sword skills and practice with a katana, we can sooner or later start using sword arts with the weapon."

"Well, alright. Not that I have much of a problem with that. We've been putting off our training for awhile now." He would respond. Once they found a quiet spot in town, they could start their duels.

    Mei Suzaku, 19
    Japanese
    H: 157cm; W: 63.5

Mei is a quiet teenager who was born in Kyoto, Japan. As the oldest of three kids, expectations were high for her. Despite her parents' good intentions Mei found herself insanely pressured to meet those expectations. By the time she hit high school, this pressure only continued to consume her and in turn she quickly fell down a hole of depression. Seeing thier daughter struggle, Mei's parents decided to have her take up a hobby of her choice. She chose swordplay.

Mei's siblings soon followed in her footsteps after she started kendo. Soon, she would find out just how much of a passion she had for the sport. Months of practice would lead her to partake in tournaments as well. Even though she never came close to winning them, it definitely helped soften the burdening pressure she felt from her school work.

Around the age of sixteen, a big accident would ruin Mei's chances of ever winning a kendo tournament, or so she thought. An accident with fire would ruin the vision of her right eye to the point of blindness. Although her left eyes was spared, her newfound loss of depth perception did the opposite for one might expect for her self-esteem. She only worked harder to become better and would soon go on to win her first tournament while blindfolded over her right eye.

This interest in swordplay would be how she found herself trapped within Aincrad. A friend in her kendo class would persuade her to get a copy of the game Sword Art Online as a way to practice their blade work while also having some fun.

Mei is a quiet but passionate woman when it comes to her sport. She tends to be hard to socialize with because her direct way of speaking. Though she opens to few people, those she's close to will find that passionate fire that burns inside.

    Virtues [] Flaws

Swordplay | Years of practice have given Mei the edge over other players despite the aid of the Cardinal system. Her skill makes her take combat in the game more seriously than anything else in Aincrad. People who don't take the combat of the game seriously won't get along with her very well.

Challenging | Failure is a stepping stone to success. Mei sees her mistakes and problems as a way to continue to improve herself. She's always willing to take on a challenge if she thinks it will make her a stronger person.

Fearless | Mei isn't afraid to take on anything(...besides maybe one thing). She takes fear by the horns and drags them to the ground. Though this can also be a recipe for disaster, her steeled nerves haven't failed her yet.

No Experience | Despite Mei's experience with swordplay, it cannot carry her to an understanding of video games. Mei doesn't understand what level can really do for her when she has practiced her swordsmanship for years. Sooner or later she'll learn how it all works.

Too Serious | With her serious nature, Mei can be difficult to interact with. She finds it hard to socialize casually with people that she doesn't know. Her usual demeanor at least doesn't keep her from being polite.

Scared of Fire | After her incident, Mei has a problem around fire. It's unnerving for her to be around fire after nearly losing half her face to burns. Her insecurities with her burn marks have left her to wearing a mask over her eye now.
