[PP-F4] Frostbite (Vayrin) <Complete>

Recommended Posts

December on the forth floor has gotten to be one of the worst place that someone could spent outside in the wilderness. The icy chilling gusts of wind that make your spine shiver, the snow downfall limited the vision of the players, not drastically, but enough for one to be easily get snuck up behind. Yet still, Nobuyuki is still in the wild, fighting monster for materials like usual. He heard that in this festive season of the year, the forth floor held a very valuable cherries that would make great muffin cakes for Christmas. He is well aware of the cold weather, and the fact that he hates it. But nonetheless, here he is, collecting the Frost Cherries for his bakery.

"*puff* *puff* I should not have taken all three of them at once." Nobuyuki muttered in his breath, as he was running away from the Snow Wolf that chasing him. Two has been taken down so far, but this last one is very much still hanging on his tail. With a swift maneuver, Nobuyuki slide under the snow, and with this sword in hand, he made a quick cut, hitting the wolf square in the chest. However, it didnt prevent the wolf from getting on top of him. The beast chomped onto his hand. Nobuyuki winced in pain, as he thrown the wolf aside. Readied his blade, be noticed his health bar on the yellow mark. "It's just a wolf. You'll finish it quick." He told himself, ready for the Snow Wolf to attack.

The frosty 4th floor was just as cold as always. As the violet haired girl trudged through the blizzard in the she could barley see with the unforgiving wind blowing past her face. Today may not have been the best day to go out mob hunting. She was exposed in this snowstorm. Any mob could sneak up on her and she wouldn't know until they were on top of her. Her thoughts were interrupted. She heard the sound of a Snow Wolf nearby. Vayrin lifter her head which was fully covered by a hood and scarf. She listened for another moment. She heard it again, the sound of combat. She quickly figured out which direction it was coming from and headed towards it, getting her sword ready. She came to the edge of a large steep snow covered hill. She looked down at it's base to see  the creature, along with a boy. He looked like he was struggling to fight off the creature, and with that Vayrin pulled her scarf up over more, only revealing her eyes. She charged up a sword art and sprinted off the hill's edge.

As the girl landed, she managed to cut the creature badly. The impact of her sword art, and her element of surprise launched the large wolf back a couple feet, rolling in the snow. Vayrin said nothing to the boy, and did not even acknowladge his presence as her focus was souley fixed on the wolf who had not been killed yet. As the creature stumbled to it's feet, Vayrin held our her blade once again, waiting for it's next move.

Before Nobuyuki was able to leap back into combat, a girl in violet jumped in between him and the wolf and attacked the beast. The impact sent the monster a few feet away from them. See his chance at hand, Nobuyuki lunged forward, swing his sword in a downward strike, aiming toward the torso of the beast. Just before the hit could land it mark, the wolf was fast enough to maneuvered to the side and duck from the attack. It lunged toward and tried to attack, aiming for Nobuyuki's neck. Saw his weak point in the open, Nobuyuki move back, dogging the attack of the snow wolf. He tumbled backward, then stood up on his feet, getting ready for the fight.

As the boy rolled backwards, Vayrin sprinted towards the beast with her blade out. The creature did the same to her. Once they got close enough, the monster jumped exeptionally high, and was about to land on top of her. Vayrin quickly sidestepped it's attack, and launched her blade for a counter. The wolf did the same, as it landed it leaped backwards, barley missing her blade.

"This wolf is much faster than the other ones." Nobuyuki sighed, looking at the wolf. He couldn't find any weakness of the thing. Suddenly, the wolf let out a haunting howl, then charged in for an attack. Nobuyuki quickly ducked under the wolf, but he missed his chance of a retaliation. Focusing on the Snow Wolf, he suddenly feel a dead weight pressed on his back, and a sharp pain on his shoulder. Another Snow Wolf has ambushed him from the back. Losing balance, Nobuyuki was dragged onto the snow floor. Quickly get up Nobuyuki and the girl in Violet now surrounded on both side. "You take on the wounded one. Leave this one to me." He told the girl, then returned his attention to the other wolf.

Vayrin only nodded as they stood back to back with the two wolves surrounding them. Vayrin held out her blade, and let it charge a sword art. At that she quickly sprinted forwards towards her target. Vayrin quickly sidestepped the wolf's attack but it had been expecting this. The creature re-positioned it's body and attacked her. Not expecting this, Vayrin rolled backwards. regaining her footing after a moment, She ran forward, jumping off a small outcropped rock covered in snow to gain height over both of her opponents. Vayrin released a powerful sword art at both of the Wolves. The impact made bot of them fly backwards as she landed on the ground. The first Wolf quickly exploded into an array of shards, while the second one sustained a powerful hit, severely wounding it.

With the help of the area of effect damage from Vayrin, the wolf's health dropped tremendously. Nobuyuki took this chance to lunge in for an attack. He swung his sword in a slant angle, toward the wolf's torso. The hit landed it mark, as the wolf was knocked off it's feet by the force of the swung. The warrior quickly jumped backward before the wolf could do any damage toward him. His eyes locked onto the snow wolf, focusing on his target.  The wolf tried to attack, aiming at Nobuyuki's leg to knocked him off balance, but Nobuyuki easily jerked his foot backward, avoiding the attack.

Using the last bit of her energy, Vayrin sprinted towards the second Snow Wolf as it whimpered from it's weakened state. She charged up her weapon and the Wolf sprinted towards her. Just before impact, Vayrin planted right, twisting her body out of the creature's path while her steel ran through it's side. Vayrin stood still for a moment, still holding her blade out as it's glow faded. The Wolf stood still for a moment with the long scar Vayrin drew  across it's torso, then burst from the virtual world. Vayrin huffed for a moment, trying to re catch her breath, and slowly sheathed her sword on her back. She turned in the boy's direction, and gave him a quick nod.

Nobuyuki nodde, looking at the girl as he sheathed the sword to the holder on his back. "You fought well back there. Also, thanks for the help." He shook the hand of the girl in violet hair. The wind is now howling, and snow falling much heavier than before. A shiver sent down to Nobuyuki spine. "I think we should do the introduction somewhere in town where it warm and safe? We could get ambush really easy out here." He exclaimed, jerking his head slightly to the direction of town. Nobuyuki couldn't wait to get into a cosy inn and rest until the snow storm is passed. "Obviously going out on this time is a mistake." Nobuyuki thought, shivering the cold.

Vayrin said nothing as the boy shook her hand. She simply stared at him for a moment as he spoke again. She thought that getting back to town was probably a smart idea. At that, Vayrin pulled her hood down lower, barley leaving any cracks between her hood and scarf for her eyes. She simply nodded once again to the boy's suggestion, and turned around, walking in the direction of the town. Assuming he was following.

Assuming that the girl know which is the direction back to Snowfrost town. He wouldn't dare t question. It's either he follows her, or he get stranded out in the snow storm. Soon enough, the two reached back to town. From a far, all they could see is the glims of lights from the lamp post and the the windows from houses. A smile grew on Nobuyuki's face, knowing that he would soon got out of this cursed snow storm, he's filled with determination to get to the town as soon as he could. Grabbed onto the hand of his companion, he ran toward the town, pulling Vayrin along. With the burst of energy, both soon found themselves in a comfy inn. Nobuyuki ordered a table for two, sat down opposite to the girl. "Sorry for pulling onto you like that... I just really do not want to stay out in the snow." He exclaimed, apologizing for his action previously.

As the two began nearing the settlement, Vayrin felt a sudden jolt in her arm, and was being dragged by the player. For a moment, her eyes had widened, and she went for the hilt of her blade, but soon realized he meant no harm by it. She let herself be pulled back to the town, for the sake of it's warmth. As soon as the two reached an Inn, the boy had already ordered a table for two. This had not been her original plan, to spend the evening with a complete stranger, but she didn't want to be rude, so she simply played along. As they sat down, the boy apologized to her for the pull. Before she responded, Vayrin silently removed her scarf, revealing her face, and took off her hood, letting her long violet hair fall over her shoulders. She gave a quick shaking of the head, and spoke to the boy for the first time. "Oh, don't worry about it. Just tried to help out." She said, staring at the table in front of them.

"I might have not think this through clearly." Nobuyuki thought about the situation he got himself in. It was a little too irrational to order a table before he could even know the name of the girl. All he thought of back there was to get out of the storm as fast as possible. Silence soon acted the atmosphere of the table between the two. Breaking the silence, Nobuyuki introduced himself. "I almost forgot, my name is Tobi. Sorry for being a little too shuttle about this. You seemed like a really good fighter." Nobuyuki exclaimed, giving her his fake name. Even if she saved her, his principles didn't allow him to give her his real name yet.

Vayrin said nothing as the boy complimented her. She didn't really know what to say. She looked up at him when he told her his name. "Pleasure, I'm Vayrin." She replied back. Indeed Vayrin had become a skilled fighter for her level, mostly because her old friend gave her the weapon she had been using. The sword was rarer then most, since it had been enhanced before it was given to her, free of charge.

"Well, if you don't mind me asking, what were you doing in a snow storm out there like that? You know that you could easily get ambush by an Ice Golem or Snow wolves right?" Nobuyuki asked, looking at Vayrin. The girl seemed to doesn't like talking very much. "I suppose she's the silent type." He analyzed in his head. Taking a peak outside the window, Nobuyuki could still see the storm raging outside. They're going to be stuck in here for some time.

When Tobi asked her what she had been doing, Vayrin looked up. "Oh, I uhh. Was looking for mats. I run a shop on floor 2, and I need to keep it stocked." She said. That was pretty much what she had been doing. Earlier that day, the sun had been shining, but when the evening came, she got stuck in that storm, and on her way back met Tobi. "What were you doing in that blizzard?" She said, trying to keep the conversation from getting awkward.

"Well, same things as you do. I owned a bakery back in floor three and while lookin through the recipe book, I found one of the ingredient that only grow in winter. These Frosty Cherries grew on the tundra themed floor, and the sweet taste make perfect ingredient of Christmas cupcakes." Nobuyuki explained his reason for being stuck in the snow. While talking, an idea popped up in his mind. "Hey, since we're both collecting Mats for our shop. Maybe we should be team up and work together. It's much safer than going all by ourselves. By the end of the day, maybe you can try one of the special Christmas cupcakes with these frosty cherries?" He shared his plan, and offer his help to Vayrin. It will be danger out of town, even when after the snow storm ended. Maybe if they work together, more progress could be done.

Vayrin looked up as Tobi suggested they go back out in the snow storm to look for mats together. "Are you sure? I mean we just got out of it and you want to go back in?" She asked curiously, trying to figure out his way of thinking. At this time of night though, stronger mobs spawned, so getting mats would be easier and harder at the same time. Stronger m obs meant better chance of getting materials, but they come with the danger. Although not many were much stronger then the Snow Wolves they had fought earlier, so it wouldn't be too risky.

"Oh, no. Not right now. It's getting dark, and the storm didn't seem to have lessen by any bit. How about we get a night rest here, and maybe we could start tomorrow morning?" Nobuyuki suggested. Through what he had gone through before, It's not a wise idea to wandered off into the wild at night, especially in a snow storm. Your vision, already obscured by the snow would be even worse with the dark night surround you. Not to mention, stronger monster seemed to come out at night, which make ambushes all the more deadly. A few extra cols wouldn't pays off the risk. He would rather hunt in the day.

  • 4 weeks later...

Vayrin let out an knowing sigh. "Yeah, you're probably right. Mob hunting wont do us much good in this weather..." She replied, looking over out the window at the raging blizzard that covered most of the floor. A sight she had become familiar with by this point. She had spent a lot of time on this floor, the mobs weren't too dangerous, but they didn't drop that much loot anyways. With that in mind, Vayrin stood up, nodded at Tobi, and walked towards the counter. After a brief discussion with the NPC, she pressed a few buttons on her menu, then took the stairway leading to the rooms upstairs.
