(SP-F2) A Time To Train - Just a little more Redux - COMPLETE!

Recommended Posts

Having rested sufficiently, Brax again hefted his axe for another training session on floor two.  The monkey he had fought before might have been trickier than he'd imagined, but all the same, he had beaten it like all the others.  He had much to do, from building up his strength to collecting snowflakes for the holiday event, so there was little time to rest.  Today, Brax changed his scenery, and chose the mountainous area for his training grounds.

Troll 8/14 [5 x 2 Whirlwind - 4 MIT] = 6 DMG

His first opponent on these steppes was a young troll, which was perfect for a growing adventurer like himself.  The rock-like creature looked ready for battle, and Brax's axe seemed hungry for blood.  Setting his axe into position, Brax executed a perfect Whirlwind attack, his dual strikes catching the beast on it's outstretched arm raised in defense.  The blow did seem to phase the troll, and it was unable to retaliate.

Troll 8/14

Pulling both arms behind it's body, the troll launched them forward in a dual haymaker move, knocking Brax back several feet.  The attack jarred him a bit, but this was what his training was for, to improve his ability to sustain damage.  His retaliatory attack fell short, though, missing the beast by a clear mile.  It carried him past the troll, but he recovered quickly enough to be ready to continue the fight.

This would become a slugfest, Brax reckoned, and he prepared for it as such.  The troll reached down and picked up a rock, it's powerful arms launching the projectile at Brax, knocking the wind out of him.  Advancing forward, he again unleashed one of his Whirlwinds, his axe-head glowing with power as it traversed his body, and the secondary shockwave that followed blew the troll back on it's heels.  It seemed his attack had momentarily stunned the creature, as it stumbled about afterwards with an aimless stare in it's eyes.  Perfect for a finishing blow.

Unfortunately, the slugfest continued on, both combatants weary from the endeavor.  Brax attempted another Whirlwind, but his arms couldn't complete the motions, his axe feeling heavy in his hands.  The troll was little better, the large arms seemingly incapable of swatting the armored man out of it's way.  Brax had correctly assumed the fight would be a slugfest, and the results were clear: the first one to muster up enough energy for a power move would win the day.

In his less than optimal condition, Brax's attention left the battlefield for a moment.  His gaze fell upon a piece of metal taken off the armor of the troll he was currently in combat with.  Dazed slightly, he reached to pick it up unaware of the Troll's incoming attack, a swift kick to his drooping head.  Brax's fingers closed around his prize, but he was barely able to hand on to it as the kick connected, clearing his head as he spun around.  He knew what must be done, and he moved to end this prolonged slugging match.

As it wandered around the rock-filled slopes, if Brax could feel pity he would.  It was a sad scene, and one that might stay the hand of a more emotional man.  However, Brax was devoid of such things, and all he saw was a target to eliminate.  And eliminate it he did, prepping his Whirlwind attack and slicing into the rocky humanoid.  It's secondary shockwave knocked the poor creature back, and after it burst into pixels, Brax collected it's dropped loot.

Knowing he needed a recharge, Brax sat down for a moment against the rocky terrain.  He needed the time to rebuild his energy, to build his reserves back up.  Brax had heard of energy boosting food, that could save him the rest, but until he built up his  supplies, he couldn't afford the price.  Instead, he had to do this the long way, and even though it was anathema to his overall goal to get stronger, he had to wait.  While he rested, he perused his surroundings, but found nothing worthy of note.

'This Pactogon, though, does not strike a chord, save from deep within.  It resonates in my soul, but not in my head.  I have never heard of a shape like it, a pie with a piece missing, like some kind of mouth, and a circle reminiscent of an eye.  Is it some kind of creature, a mythical monster that appeared in history?  If so, why did it not appear in the old literature I read?  I wonder...'

Mountain Goat 8/14 [5 x 2 Whirlwind - 4 MIT] = 6 DMG

It was time to hunt down another beast, another training partner.  Brax stood and wandered the rocky steppes, and came upon a munching mountain goat, not the most prestigious of prey, but it would have to do.  The beast appeared skittish, but it's senses were more focused on it's meal, some sparse grass between the rocks.  Too engrossed with the food, the goat failed to defend itself against Brax's Whirlwind attack, the glowing body strike cutting the beast's HP nearly in half.  With a loud bleat, the beast tried to escape as opposed to striking back.

He took the opportunity to block the goat's escape route, moving with a grace only afforded to those gifted with the Epitaph he currently wore.  It energized his feet, allowing Brax to leap over the beast and preventing it from running off in that particular direction.  As he landed, his axe spun around with a glow that could only herald his Whirlwind attack, the twin strikes cutting more HP off of the beast.  This would hopefully be an easier fight than the troll earlier.

Such was not meant to be, at least for this particular round.  As Brax stepped towards the goat his footing failed him, the energy of his trinket failing.  He missed an easy blow, but by twisting his frame as he fell Brax was able to avoid a counterattack by the angry goat, who once again attempted to flee the scene of the battle.  The Epitaph shone bright again, reinvigorating him to chase the beast down.

The goat retreated, making it's way through the rocks in an attempt to flee.  Brax had to chase down the creature, using the extra boosts from the Epitaph to aid him.  Leaping ahead of the beast, Brax set his Whirlwind and let it fly, catching the runner mid-stride and dispersing it into pixels.  'Not glamorous work, but necessary for training, I guess.'  Brax picked up the loot it dropped, and started a search for more prey.

There was nothing of note, enemy or otherwise, in the immediate vicinity.  Unfortunate, given Brax's desire to improve his skills, to become stronger and survive, but there might be more in the next area.  As he made his way there, he struck down some invading thoughts regarding the Pactagonal Knights, thinking to himself that he had been doing alot of thought pushing recently.  It wouldn't be long before he was again forced to confront his inner demons, such as they were.

The reprieve was short-lived, though, and just as some as Brax pocketed the prize, a troll tried to strike him with a flying tackle that forced Brax back a step.  In retaliation, Brax drew his axe to the left side and let the system guide another Whirlwind of his, this time allowing him to disengage the rampaging beast.  As the monster was thrown back, the shockwave caught it again, and knocked the poor beast onto it's back.

Normally, Brax would have continued to wail on the beast, trading blow for blow in an attempt to end the fight quickly, and soldier on to the next battle.  He saw that his blow had done more damage to the beast than previously thought, however.  He must have dazed the creature with his attack, for it glared at him vacantly for a moment.  As such, Brax was able to scan the immediate area quickly, and find some suitable crafting supplies for later.

Momentarily stunned by the double blow, the troll lay on it's back in an unguarded position.  Brax capitalized on it's dropped defenses immediately.  Running at the monster full-bore, he set another Whirlwind in place, and as he struck the prone beast solidly, it followed it's brothers into the ether, it's pixels dispersing into the air lie a fine mist.  Another one down, more training under his belt.

As his eyes scanned the horizon, Brax lost himself in his thoughts, as he was wont to do at times like this.  'What are the Pactogonal Knights, exactly?  A variation on the Knights of the Round Table, to be certain.  Is that all, though?  I recall the Knights from my studies in protocol, with their social etiquette and well-mannered ways.  I even incorporated much of what they did into my dealings with others, the way I speak and act in the presence of other people.'

Brax could not rest on his laurels, if he could have that is, given his mental status.  He had more training to accomplish, more strength to gather until he could move forward and recover his memory, his missing past.  Moving on through the rocky embankment, he searched for more materials relevant to the crafters he had come to meet along his travels, though those were few and far between.  He turned his thoughts from the Knights for just  a moment, instead thinking on the next stage of his training.

His past was always haunting his thoughts, but Brax would not be deterred.  He needed to get himself higher up in skill and power, the battles he had just engaged in proving that point immensely.  Surveying the surrounding countryside and finding nothing of note, he what and where his next bit of training would include.  He was driven by these goals, becoming strong enough to survive anything he faced, and finding the past he so desperately missed, if his constitution could in fact express such desperation, which it could not.  The drive was eating away at him, though, and one day soon, would completely consume him.  But not today.
