[PP-F1] Is Babysitting A Profession? (Comet, Kasier)

Recommended Posts

Sitting in a cafe was a dark haired player who went by the name of Helios. He had started coming to the NPC-run restaurant quite often since his friend, Teselmar, had shown it to him. Patiently, the young man leaned back in his booth, waiting for the NPC waitress to come by. Outside the window next to him were dozens of players, some older and some younger. It was a bright, sunny day on the First Floor, which made the player quite happy. He was fond of Floor 1's weather, because it was usually nice. The boy watched many people outside, wondering what each of them were doing. He could tell that some were shopping for items, since they were exiting and entering different shops. Others were simply relaxing in the sun or exploring the huge city known as the Town of Beginnings. His head turned back to the NPC's who ran the cafe, making him smile lightly. Even the non-players seem like regular people here. It's amazing how realistic this world is.

Comet had been hopping around cheerfully through the starting town. Indeed, he was quite cheerful... Well, when wasn't he cheerful? He was always happy, excited, positive and that was what made Comet so special compared to lots of different players that were more experienced and more powerful than he. Indeed, Comet was probably one of the weakest players that he knows of and well, he minded not. To level is a slow, progressive progress and it is not overnight so one must be patient and fight according to the situation. They must wait, and not rush or else death might be upon them. Hence, Comet, instead of trying to get materials for armor, is hopping around aimlessly in the middle of the starting town, seeking out for anything that might be of interest to him. Comet sighed, however, when he arrived at the service area of the town. This was where all the shops were, either NPCs or player made shops and he had no Col that he could use to buy any food here. Indeed, he had been living off the starter bread that was given to all players and the taste was terrible. It was tasteless and you'd think that they'd, at least, put some taste into the bread but it was nothing. Comet walked around aimlessly and that was when he came to a cafe with a huge window. He peeked inside, seeing that it was quite empty and pressed his hands and face into the glass panel in a curious manner. Then, he saw a man right there who was staring at a waitress. Hm? What is he staring at?

He sighed as the waitress walked towards a different table, taking their orders first. No matter, I can wait. They were here before me anyway. he thought, turning his head back to the window. As he looked outside, he nearly jumped out of his skin. Standing in front of the window was a small boy, who definitely wasn't an NPC. Somebody that young is inside of this death game... Geez, that's unfair. Helios smiled and waved to the child, who was staring at him quite curiously. I wonder if he's hungry.

A waitress turned her head to the dark haired man's table. Assuming she was coming to take his order, he gestured for the kid outside to come in. He's so young. I should help him out as much as I can. the boy decided, leaning back in his booth and waiting for the young child to come inside, if that's what he planned on doing.

Comet glanced at the man as he gave him a wave as if he was inviting him into the building. Of course, Comet was quite hungry and he would go ahead and walk inside the shop. However, he walked in with caution. The dark haired man had seemed friendly enough but you can never tell what someone is like purely based on their appearance. There were ugly people with good heart and the opposite as well. The world was a dangerous place and Comet knew this despite the fact that he was not exactly experienced in terms of what the world was like. Comet sighed as he opened the door and looked around as he walked into the main room of the cafe. He looked at the dark haired man before walking over and soon jumping upon a chair. "Hello, mister." Comet said, not sure what else to say. He could sense the waitress looking at him from behind... She probably thought it was strange that Comet just decided that he would walk in and sit down at the table without a verbal invitation. One picture or motion is better than one thousand words. He remembered his father once saying when he became frustrated with how much Comet was talking to him. Comet sighed and looked at the man curiously with those big, innocent eyes of his.

Helios sighed as the child walked away from the window and began entering the shop. I've got more than enough col for us, although I should have checked before inviting him in. the player thought, watching the brown haired kid take a seat on the chair across from him. "Hey," the man started, "I assume you were looking at me through the window because you're hungry, right?" he questioned, a bit curious. He was more than willing to buy the kid a meal if he needed it. Helios was just that kind of guy. It was a kid after all, and his parents clearly weren't in the game with him. It was cruel that he'd be forced to be stuck in the death game with the rest of the players. What if he were to walk out into the plains, unsure of what lived beyond the gates. He wouldn't survive, of course. How could Kayaba live with himself knowing that there were children trapped here? God he's one sick man. the dark haired boy thought, frowning a bit.

Well, Comet hadn't exactly been staring into the window at the man. However, he decided that trying to explain that to the man was going to be a waste of time that he had no need to waste. Still, he was going to be polite and respond the man having now sat down in the same table that the man had allowed him to sit on. With a sigh, he began to speak once more having inspected the area. The place seemed quite dark as if it was a place of shadiness. However, the place seemed to be quite empty and had only a few people sitting around in patches talking quietly as they discussed whatever NPCs talked about. He could tell that several people were looking their way. From what he had seen during his time here in this game, he had learned that NPCs tend to look towards players a lot. Comet personally had no idea why the game does this but he really could care less. Comet sighed once more before saying, "Yeah. I guess I am a bit hungry." Comet said with a wide grin as he began to rub his stomach. Well, he really wasn't hungry... But he hadn't had a decent taste of food ever since that time when Macradon invited him out for lunch. Since then, he's had nothing but bread for a while as he had absolutely no money on him. "My name is Comet by the way." Comet finished with an introduction that was quite friendly for the situation and the location.

"Then if you don't mind, I'll pay for a meal for you to eat." he smiled, listening as the child introduced himself. "Nice to meet you Comet. I'm Helios." the player replied before turning his head to the waitress who had begun to stroll up to their table. As the NPC arrived, two order forms appeared in front of the players. Helios chose a plate of French toast as his meal and a glass of hot chocolate for a drink. "Choose whatever you'd like, I don't mind paying at all." he chuckled, leaning back into his chair.

Comet grinned in appreciation as the black haired man introduced himself and offered to give food to him. His first instinct was to reject the offer as he had already gotten plenty of help from Macradon, the first person that he'd truly actually interacted with. Comet didn't want to rely on everyone to carry him through this world. Instead, in order to become strong, he knew full well that he needed to become strong by hard work and leveling through his own efforts. Sure, he would accept help there and here but he knew, eventually, he must venture out into the world and fight by himself so he can join the many players on the front lines and fight for the one that he must protect and escort out of this world. Comet sighed before starting to refuse. However, just as he was about to speak, his stomach began to grumble from hunger and well, he was truly aware of his conditions and he guessed that once wouldn't hurt. "Well, thanks, sir. I guess I'll take a look." Comet said with a grin, rubbing his hungry stomach while looking at the pictures that were on the menu. "I guess I'll have half of a chocolate cake." The boy soon said, realizing that he hadn't had anything sweet for a long time.

After the child decided on his food, Helios smiled. The NPC waitress began to walk away from their table. Soon enough, the food the two players had ordered would be finished and they'd be left to eat. "So, Comet, what have you been up to since SAO began? Surely you haven't been fighting monsters out in the fields." he chuckled, placing his hands on the table. If the young child had been grinding all this time, the raven haired player would be quite surprised. However, judging by his age, gear and level, that was not the case. It was highly likely he had been inside the Town of Beginnings the entire time, which was fine.

Part of me feels bad for him, but he seems quite happy despite being stuck here. Hopefully he'll be able to stay that way for his entire time here. the man thought, turning his head to the left and grinning. He watched as the waitress had began walking back towards their table with the food the two boy's had ordered. "Ah, great." he said as the meals were placed in front of them.

Comet sighed before responding to the man's question. Hopefully, Helios would not take him as someone of a lazy trait because he was definitely not someone who was lazy. Comet had actually spent the majority of an early game looking for a childhood friend... Well, not exactly a childhood friend as they were still friends when they both were launched into this game. Still, Comet wished that he would've actually begun to grind so he might really be in the front lines. However, his goal still remains the same... After a while of staying in the starting town, he has set his goal and his heart to become one of the greatest frontlines in the game. Indeed, he wanted to be known and he wanted to free the girl that had provided him with pretty much everything he had in his life and he wanted to show his appreciation by becoming a frontline and freeing all the players... Even if he has to sacrifice his own life. "There was someone I was looking for since the beginning of the game and I couldn't find her. Still, now, I pretty much gave up. Still, one day I'll meet up with her once more and I'm sure that she's still alive. There is no way that she is dead. Now, I'm planning on becoming of the greatest front line players even though that might take a while." Comet responded with a chuckle when he watched their food arrive.

Helios smiled gently as he listened to what the kid had to say. A childish comment for sure, but an honest one at that. He was young, so of course he'd have a dream like that. But finding the girl was possible, if she was still alive. "Well, I hope you find your friend soon. If you ever need a hand, I'd be happy to assist you. And, if you work hard enough, maybe you'll even be able to become the strongest front liner of them all." he chuckled. Taking a bite of his French toast, the young man smiled. "How's your cake?" he asked curiously, wondering if it was any good. "If it tastes good, I might just have to come back here sometime and buy some."

The young man's hot chocolate was quite delicious as well. It tasted nearly as good as his own from before Sword Art Online. He learned from his father at an early age how to make a great cup of hot chocolate, so he drank it often. It was probably his favorite beverage out there.

Comet nodded his head. Naturally, pretty much everything that goes into his mouth at the moment tasted delicious. Perhaps it was due to how this game was designed or maybe it was just because he was starving at the moment since he had only eaten bread since eating steak with Macradon. He could feel the taste and he savored it much in hopes that it would last for a while as he continued to take spoonfuls of the dark chocolate cake and stuffing it into his mouth as the deliciousness was rather nice for someone with a small stomach and haven't eaten in way too long. Comet sighed, rubbing his stomach as it had been quite a while since he had something as sweet as that. Comet yawned, feeling rather sleepy but wanted to know the man better as he had been friendly enough to provide him with lunch. "Hey, Helios... I was wondering if you owned any shops?" Comet spoke with a smile, trying to set up some sort of conversation, any sort of conversation... in order to prevent the situation from becoming awkward.

Helios smiled as the boy nodded. "Looks like I'll be coming back soon enough then." he chuckled, taking a sip from his hot chocolate. It had been a while since the last time the player had had a good cup of cocoa. Oh how I missed you, hot chocolate. he thought before the child began to speak once again. The raven haired boy didn't expect a question like that to be asked, but he was happy. "Yep, I do. It's here in the Town of Beginnings, actually. If you want, I could show it to you after we finish." he replied, leaning forward to take a bite of his French toast. "So, what about you? Do you plan on opening up a shop?" he asked, curiously. Sure, he was a child, but this was an MMORPG. There weren't any laws on how old you needed to be to work in a store.

"Sure thing. I'm excited to see what your shop is going to be like but I'm sure that I'll definitely be there by myself later." Comet replied with a huge grin as he finished off his chocolate cake. The cake had been delicious. The flavor was full and there was absolutely little that can be taken away from the craftsmanship of the cake. The cake had stuffed Comet's stomach and he had been rubbing it when he was asked whether he planned to start a shop later on. Honestly, Comet could not even imagine himself running a shop. Indeed, it would probably be a chaos. He was never really an organized person and running a shop would truly be way too much for a child like he. Perhaps he might become a merchant once he becomes a high leveled player but that was something which must be considered in the future and not bothered with at the moment. Yup, Comet was way too busy trying to catch up with everyone else than running a shop and he didn't desire to run a shop either. With a sigh, Comet replied, "Sure must be nice to have a shop to live in eh? I can't quite do that... I gotta live in a cheap inn for a while until I can get a few Col gathered up to move on to a better one. Things have sped up for me and I really don't think I have a lot of time on my hands to run a shop. Do you get a lot of costumers, Helios?" Helios asked, thinking of ways to spark a conversation and at this point just wanted to know the dark-haired man better. It would be nice for Comet to gather a few more friends earlier on so he can have lots of people to contact if he needed quests to be completed in a hurried amount of time.

Helios listened to the child cheerfully, happy to hear everything he had to say. "Ah, it is quite nice, although I'd much prefer a nice house to live in. It's not the biggest shop out there, so I don't have a lot of space to sleep in. But that's alright, I suppose." he chuckled. When he was asked about how many customers he got, he let out a small sigh and smiled. "Unfortunately, not very many. Occasionally I get a customer or two, but it doesn't happen as often as I'd like. I can't complain though, I only recently opened up the shop." he replied, still smiling. Comet seemed quite happy for a kid who was trapped inside a game that could easily mean the death of him. Seeing players like him only made Helios want to help end SAO even more. Trying to keep the conversation going, the player thought of some other question to ask. "Did anybody enter the game with you?"

"Erm, well, I entered the game with a girl called Aikoh. She's my childhood friend and she's really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really nice. But, I tried to find her and well, I still haven't found her but I'm sure that she is still alive! We are very close so I can feel these types of things." Comet said, looking down and even though he might not sound like it, he was very worried about Aikoh. The girl was a rich person who belonged to a rich family and surely, she wouldn't be used to the situation here. Also, there were so many different ways that one can die in this game and Comet did not appreciate the fact that so much danger lurks in this game. "I'm sure I'll be able to find her soon enough though.... Uhm, maybe you can keep an eye out for her? She's pretty and shorter than me." Comet finished with a huge grin directed at Helios. It was then that Comet grew bored of just sitting there doing nothing. He was an active little kid that needed to keep moving all the time and this was why he likes to go around different places and explore everywhere that he can possibly explore. Hence, he was feeling the urge to exercise once more and fly like he always did... Or at least imagine himself flying. Comet's goal and dream in life was to fly high into the air and never come down. He'll probably take Aikoh with him too if he does that. For now, he needs more training so he's been going to the tallest places that he could possibly go to and looking down from there to imagine himself flying. Right now, a table would have to do. With a smile and no hesitation, Comet jumped onto the table with a gigantic grin.

"Sure thing, I'll tell you if I see her." Helios chuckled. His description of the girl obviously wasn't helpful, but he was a kid so it couldn't be helped. At least he's not alone in this game. Hopefully his friend is alright. The raven haired boy yawned, a bit bored of sitting at the table. Nothing exciting seemed to be happening in that area and he had finished eating the meal that was ordered earlier. Suddenly, Comet was standing up on the table looking at Helios with a grin. A small laugh exited the player's mouth as he witnessed a couple of NPCs looking at their table. Well, I didn't expect that. he thought, unsure of what to say. To be honest, he had no idea what the brown haired kid was planning on doing. Actually, he wasn't sure if Comet even knew. The NPCs and a player or two, who seemed to be laughing a bit, simply watched the child, unsure of what was going on. Hopefully we don't get kicked out.

Kasier was walking through the starting town, admiring the beauty of the sunlight as she spots two people in the distance. One of which, she recognized while the other one... a kid, she didn't exactly recognize. After a while, Kasier watched from the window as the brown-haired kid ran out of the shop, shouting about something with having an adventure out in the fields. She was sure that the boy was going to have a great time out in the sun like this. It saddens Kasier that such a virtual prison kept children inside as well. It was such a tragedy that children were kept from freedom just because of one man's cruel actions. She didn't know what Kayaba was thinking when he created this virtual prison but either something was wrong with his mind or he thought he was doing the right thing. Heck, he might even be trolling all the players but she was not about to test it out. Kasier smiled as she entered the tavern in which Helios was chilling in by himself. With a wave, she greeted the man and sat next to him before ordering a cup of soda with the Col that she had only recently obtained. "Hey Helios. Great day here huh? By the way, who was that kid who just ran out? I saw him sitting with you. It seemed like you two were having quite a fun time in here talking and stu - oh, yes, waitress... Thanks for the soda." Her speech was cut off by the waitress who had come to deliver her order. The day was quite hot and it sure was nice to have ice and soda. She was yet to finish making the coffee that Helios had ordered but she knew that Helios wouldn't mind.

Helios simply chuckled and watched as the young, brown haired kid ran out of the cafe, towards the fields. I hope he'll be alright on his own out there. He sighed, taking the last sip of his drink. Then, he noticed a woman sit down beside him. "Oh, Kasier. It is a pretty great day." He smiled, happy to see the girl. She asked who the kid who had been sitting with him was. "Oh, him? That was Comet, a poor kid who's trapped in here. Apparently the girl he came with is missing." Helios replied, leaning back into his chair. "So, how's the shop coming along? I assume you're an expert cook now?"

"Anyway, what if you been up to since I last saw you? Other than opening up your cafe, of course." He chuckled, smiling to the NPC waitress before she left. Helios looked over the dark-haired girl's outfit. She still had her starter equipment, which didn't come as much of a shock. There were quests that he knew of that could get her armor and a weapon without having to pay anything. He wondered if she planned on taking them. They weren't too challenging, although she was a low level. Maybe she could use some assistance with them.

"A master cook? I'm far from being a master cook." She said when the man addressed her as an expert cook. "Geez. I really hope that boy can survive to see his family again. If he ever makes it to the front lines, I'll be sure to protect him and heal him so that he doesn't die." Kasier finished before starting to answer Helios's question about what was going on. "Well, I did go rock punching for a while." She said, "I was helping friends get their martial arts skill but I didn't think I would need it because there's no point considering that I can't even fight with a sword. Well I'll see you sooner or later, Helios!" She finally said as she walked out of the door in haste so that she can get more materials for cooking.
