[F1-SP] Fields of Beginning

Recommended Posts

Zulee stood in the fields outside of the Starter City staring at the sky. The wind blew lightly through the air, and Zulee's hair and clothes rustled lightly with the passing breeze, though she herself stood completely still. Her gaze didn't move, as if she was watching something, though the sky was completely clear, devoid of even clouds for the moment. To those who knew the woman, they would know that she was lost in thought, thinking about the predicament she had been placed in and what her next steps would be. Zulee was at a severe disadvantage to most people playing this game. She was by no means a "gamer" and, though she wouldn't admit it in company, had never played more than a few minutes of a video game before today. And sure enough, her first game she finds herself trapped. After minutes passed with Zulee standing stock still, she finally moved, just enough to give a heavy sigh from her contemplation.

Zulee scanned the grassy fields and hills surrounding her, once she had finally managed to drag her gaze from the clear sky. Zulee had seen the dangers that others had gotten involved in, other low levels who rushed into the boars of the area and had met fate head on. She had seen people die, if what the GM and creator, Kayaba Akihiko, had said was true. Zulee had no reason to doubt it, even if it was a lie. The worst part was, at her own power level, there was absolutely nothing Zulee could do to save these people. Her strength and training did her no good here. No, this world was ruled by a different set of laws than what she was used to. That was something she would have to get used to, at least until she could find a way to change it for the better with her strength.

As Zulee scanned the plains, she saw players running this way and that. Some were fighting boars, some were fighting wolves, and yet others were just wandering around or conversing. It was a bright, clear day, and for all intents and purposes in the real world Zulee would have considered a day like this beautiful. For a moment, Zulee considered attempting to try to converse with other players herself, but the more she thought about it, the more she wondered just how dangerous of a prospect that really was. The world was lawless, and numbers ruled more than actual strength and training. In the real world, Zulee could have probably taken on most opponents. She let out another heavy sigh. Her thinking about the real world constantly would get her nowhere. This was her new world, and she would have to make do.

Zulee made her way down the hill that she was standing on to a nearby boar. Zulee was thankful for one thing at least, and that was that Kayaba had been kind enough to not make all monsters attack on sight. The boars were an example of that, passive little piggies that left you alone as long as you did the same for them. She walked up to a boar, looking it over and considering if she actually wanted to make any attempts to fight it. The boar was pretty much just as strong as she was, for all intents and purposes. Taking on an opponent of equal strength was usually a good measure of strength, but again, this world didn't rely on strength. It relied on luck, and a bit of skill. Skill Zulee knew she had, but luck wasn't always on her side. She shook her head, and walked away from the boar. That challenge would be best left for another day.
