[SP-F3] <<Worn Out Welcome>> Just an Elf

Recommended Posts

Raun had already obtained a wonderful armour from Hataki. However, he realized he has one more slot in which he can equip another armour. At first he thought he would go to Hataki again and request another armour, this time actually paying up front. But he wasn’t sure if he had enough funds to do that. Luckily, he heard about this particular quest on floor three where an NPC armour smith would craft him any armour he wants, if he has the right material. Excellent! This was an opportunity that involved both levelling up and also obtaining an armour; only a fool would give it up. Besides, Raun had been searching nowhere but the first floor for his sister. She did start the game a couple of days earlier than him; maybe she was on the higher floors. And hence, the journey began. He walked up to the teleportation area of the first floor and teleported to floor three. Now! Time to find that quest.

It took him a while, but he finally managed to find Griswold’s shop. The shop was difficult to miss once it was in his vicinity; it had a huge sign in front of it, detailing how he will craft an armour if given the right material. Raun entered the shop and greeted the shopkeeper. “Hello! I’m here to take the offer on the armour.” Griswold looked up at him and smiled widely. “Of course! You just need to go to the elf cave, defeat the dark elf there and collect the raw material he is guarding,” he said, in a matter-of-fact tone. “Umm…” Raun was going to ask for further details, like how powerful the dark elf would be, but before that, he got a quest notification. Once he accepted it, the quest log gave him all the information he needed. Sweet! Not going to be easy, but I can do it. “Alright then. I’ll be back with the material. Thanks!” he said and made his way out of the shop. He opened his map and followed the quest marker.

As Raun walked towards the Elf’s cave, he watched out for the normal mobs in the fields. He had heard that dire wolves jump on unsuspecting players and gang up against them. The young man wasn’t ready to die yet. He mostly stuck to the paved path and only crossed into the Prairie only if absolutely required. At one place, the path split into two different directions and both seemed to take the long route to the Dark Elf’s cave. Raun did not have the time to take the long route. So, he chose to go through the Prairie lands and find the cave as soon as possible. The field looked peaceful from where he stood. The land curved into small cliffs, mounds and slopes. But he knew all this was a farce. Nothing but digital crap fed into his brain. He shook his head and focused on his current mission. While he walked through the golden-brown tall grass, he noticed a particular grass that stood out amongst the rest. After plucking it off and reading the description, he realized it could be used for his alchemy. Aha… From then on, he made sure to keep a look out for similar grass.

The purple-eyed man got carried away and started looking for the special grass all over the place, thereby not sticking to the shortest route to the Dark Elf’s cave. He kept wandering around the grass and that didn’t prove to be detrimental. A pack of three <<Dire Wolves>> jumped on him from nowhere and pinned him down. Since the grass was tall, he couldn’t see them coming at all. Luckily, all the wolves bit him on the armoured part and hence were damaged decently due to the Thorn enhancement he had in it. I’m in love with this armour. Once the wolves realized they are being damaged, they flinched away, giving Raun an opening to attack. He unsheathed his sword while still lying down on the ground, rolled towards the closest wolf and slashed at its fore legs. His Scimitar slashed through them, dismembering the wolf. Raun then quickly stood up and readied himself for the next round. Why do I always end up fighting packs and swarms? I have no AOE skill… Yet…

Raun had chewed more than he could handle. Despite being dismembered, the wolf managed to land one more attack on Raun before he could finish it off with a skill he never knew he had. While the wolves circled around him, attempting to jump on him, Raun took a defensive position and swirled around trying to use his movement as a defence against the pouncing wolves. Unfortunately, it didn’t work though. The wolves managed to find a blind spot and bit him through his armour. He saw his HP fall rapidly down to half. Oh god… This isn’t great. He didn’t stop spinning and hoped that it would send the wolves flying away from him. As he kept spinning, his Scimitar glowed purple and then sent a hard blow that pushed all the wolves down on the ground, killing one of them. There were still two and Raun had such low health. He was in no position to run either. He gulped and gripped onto his Scimitar steadily. If I can perform that Sword Art again… Maybe… I’ll survive this.

Unfortunately, he never got the opportunity to attempt that Sword Art again. Even though the two remaining wolves barely had any health, they were extremely ferocious. One jumped and bit his ankle, rooting him on the spot and the other pounced on his sword hand. All he could do was kick and push the wolves away. His HP dropped further and his eyes widened in fear. Am I going to die here with these wolves? No… No! I have to find my sister and go back to the real world with her. I’ll not die here. The wolves tried to conceal themselves using the tall grass again. But Raun wasn’t a fool. He kept a close look on the rustles and movements of the grass. I’ll get them this time...

This time, Raun didn’t charge in first. He waited for the wolves to make the first move. And once the wolves were about two feet away from him, he started to spin like he did before. He guessed at the pose he had struck the previous time this Sword Art worked and attempted to mimic it. Luckily, he got it right. His Scimitar glowed purple again and sent a powerful arc straight towards the two wolves. It struck them square on and they were thrashed onto the ground. The attack dropped their HP down to zero and both the wolves disintegrated into tiny pieces of colours. Phew… Raun dropped to his knees and held onto his sword as a support. I’m not falling for these ‘alchemical reagents’ trap again. Even though he told that to himself, he probably would again fight things he can’t handle.
