[SP-F1] The Quest to find More Cigarettes! Pt. 3

Recommended Posts

Ronin took in gasping breaths for air as he began his long march down the far side of the mountain.  It had been slow going at first, due to the thin air at the top of the mountain and the rather chilly weather, but now he felt like he was picking up the pace and getting back on track.  It didn't help that all he had to smoke on where these nasty black and milds, but he was making due the best he could.  Soon, he knew he'd have his brand of cigarettes again and could get back to doing what he did best; smokin' and cussin' and not really givin' a hoot bout nothin' else...

Making his way down the path, he noticed that it was becoming rocky once again.  There was a treeline up ahead and the valley was a long ways after.  He sighed, knowing he'd have to venture into this forest and hope for the best.  He had never been to this region before, so he had to stay on his toes and be ready for anything.  The forests he had been in so far in this game, had proved to be pretty challenging and the beasts lurking inside no push overs either.  He took a deep breath, continuing his forward march and preparing himself for the worst.

As he reached the treeline, Ronin decided to stop and check out his gear right quick.  He needed to be well equipped and ready, just in case something went wrong inside.  He sighed, pulling up his menu and looking at his inventory.  From the gear he had crafted himself, to the other items that he had gotten along the way, he felt like he was pretty well prepared for... well, just about anything that might come at him.  If worse came to worse, he always had some teleport crystals he could make use of as well.  "Well, here goes nothin'..."

Taking a deep breath, he entered into the forest, stepping past the treeline and looking as far as he could see through the trees.  He smirked, feeling good about being here.  He wondered if there were any sorta' strange beasts roaming around that he could engage for a little combat action.  Or maybe there was some good treasure he could dig up?  He couldn't know for sure, but he was itchin' to find out!  His eyes grew wide and he kept a close look out as he roamed deeper into the woods.  Sniffing at the fresh scent of pine and loving this little adventure.

Ronin looked up at the sky, well as best he could through the canopy of the forest.  He sniffed at the fresh air and smiled softly.  If only Jambi or Caspar were here with him now...  He sighed, feeling alone, but knowing he couldn't have asked them to risk their lives to come with him on this foolish little journey.  After all, this was all in an effort to simply find cigarettes and that wasn't very smart.  This was  a game of death and people were getting PKed and slain by mobs left and right.  Ronin was trying to get himself killed, just to go buy smokes and kill himself... silly.

Deciding it was time for another break, Ronin moved to the base of a mighty tall tree and with a heave and a ho, he suddenly sprang up into the air.  As he reached the pinnacle of his jump, he reached forth and gripped the tree in a hugging fashion.  Once he had secured himself on the trunk, he began shimming his way up the length with the use of his feet and legs, using his hands to keep grip and kinda' monkey his way along.  After some strain and a whole lotta' effort, he finally managed to reach the higher branches and began weaving his way through until his head emerged through the canopy.  What he saw, was beautiful...

Peeking his head through the top of the foliage, the swordsman's breath was stolen from his lungs.  Though it was scarce to begin with and laced in noxious tobacco smoke, he still couldn't believe his eyes.  The view was magical, mystical, insane...  He continued to marvel over how a game could produce such life like, incredible imagery.  It was even better than perhaps any sunset he had ever watched in the real world... or at least, equal to it.  "Man... " he breathed, staring wide eyed at it for several long moments.  "...this game is such a trip..."

Licking his lips, he situated himself on some of the higher branches that crissed and crossed over one another and found himself a little seat.  As he slowly let his hands come away from the stability of the branches, his full weight was finally applied to his little makeshift chair and he found that it was indeed holding him.  The last thing he wanted was to fall from this height and smack his head on the forest floor.  Though there wasn't such a thing as pain in this virtual world, the prospect of having to climb all the way back up here wasn't too appealing.

Once he had gotten comfy in his chair, he kept his eyes pinned on the sunset and all the beautiful, vibrant colors that decorated the sky.  He sighed, wishing that his comrades could be here with him now, but knowing that he had chosen this path and he alone would be the one to walk it.  He fished a smoke outta' his pack and sparked it up, puffing long and hard at the... black and mild?  "Bleh!" he spat, remembering he was all outta' smokes and that's what this entire quest of his had been about in the first place.  He grimaced and did his best to enjoy the sunset, with this... less than satisfying smoke.

Sniffing at the air amid puffs of his black and mild, the swordsman did his best to relax and get as comfortable as possible in his little makeshift seat high up on the tree tops.  He hadn't expected to be out here, in this forest, seeing this incredible view... alone.  He hadn't expected any of the surprises he had encountered thus far in this incredible virtual world.  He was simply doing his best to roll with it, to adapt and to take it all in as it happened.  Day by day, he was growing stronger and learning more, but he knew at any moment everything could change...

After getting his fill of the sunset, Ronin had passed the hell out.  He was still in a sorta' seated, upright position, but his head was hung forward and his eyes were closed.  A long strand of spit hung from his lips and he drooled all over the branches and leaves below him.  He was positioned in such a way that his legs and hips kept him balances enough to remain upright, while his torso swayed ever so slightly from time to time in his sleep.  He grumbled, chewing at his lips and tongue and cursing faint little obscenities.

When he did wake, he freaked the hell out at first.  He felt all discombobulated being so high up in the air and as he tried to shift his weight, his balance gave out and he broke right through the makeshift branch chair he had been sitting in all this time.  He fell for several feet before finally his foot was snagged in a crossing of branches and he hung upside down, dangling from the canopy.  "Holy hell, what kinda' crazy dream is this?" he wondered aloud, not remembering in his waking haze that he had actually ventured all the way out here to this forest.

Still hanging from the branches, the swordsman's mind began to come back to its senses and he realized this wasn't a dream at all.  "Ah [censored]..." he cursed, remembering the events that had lead him to this point.  Now, he just had to figure out how the hell to get outta' this mess and back down to the solid ground, hopefully without landing on his head.  He sighed and began swinging himself to and fro, building momentum and hoping he'd be able to swing up and grab hold of another branch.  Then he could pull his foot free and climb down safely.

"A little... closer... a little... clo-ser..." he teethed, continuing to swing his body back and forth.  His leg was cracking and popping at the knee as he swung, stretching the joint and ligaments out as he moved.  "Erm..." he strained, reaching out his hand on a swing and trying to grab at the branches.  "Damnit!" he cried, missing them and swinging back in the opposite direction.  Trying again, he strained with all his might and effort to reach forth and [censored] at the branch.  "Aha! gotcha!" he cried, grabbing hold of it.  AS he pried his foot free from the branches, he smiled, before he heard a cracking sound above and looked toward his hand.  "uh oh..."

Ronin cringed as the branch in his hand suddenly snapped off and sent him plummeting downward through the air.  He looked down, gulping as he saw the forest floor quickly approaching.   To his surprise, as he was preparing to make contact, he found that instead of hitting, he was actually rising back up into the air, away from the ground.  "The hell...?" he wondered aloud, before looking up to see that something had hold of his wrist.  It was a bird's claws and the bird... was big.

The swordsman grumbled and cursed kicking his legs and wiggling to try and get free from the creature's clutches.  The powerful talons of the winged beast didn't budge an inch and he was stuck in the creature's grasp for now, wondering where he was heading.  If he had to guess, he'd say he was being carried right back to the beast's nest to be picked apart and fed to the young.  He swallowed hard, hoping he was wrong, but knowing he would have to be ready just in case.  With his armor and shield, he would have a better chance, but he still had to be ready to fight for his life in case.

As Ronin continued to await his fate, he prepared himself for the worst to come.  He was going to [censored] this giant bird thing up if it thought for a second it was going to eat him for dinner!  He wasn't about to let any creature make a meal outta' him, that was for damn sure.  He was prepared to strike this winged beast down and any of its little offspring, provided it was indeed taking him back to the nest to share with the family.  "Damn birds..." he grumbled, readying himself both mentally and physically for the war to come...

As the swordsman was dropped into a giant nest, he grumbled and spat, trying to claw his way back up over the massive branches and climb to salvation.  Each branch was like the size of an entire tree and he couldn't believe it had come to this.  He turned back once he began his climb up the wall, spotting several massive eggs.  This was definitely a giant bird's nest of sorts and something told Ronin he hadn't been invited over for dinner so much as to be dinner.  He sighed and looked upward, wondering where the massive bird had flown off to?

Continuing to scale up the massive tree trunk sized branches that made up this gigantic bird's nest, Ronin finally reached the top and paused, catching his breath.  He was still keepin' his eye out for the massive winged beast that was flapping around overhead, but he knew he just needed to get the hell outta' there.  The eggs behind him had begun to shake around a bit and crack a bit.  There were sounds of chirping and other strange noises coming from the eggs and Ronin knew if he didn't escape now, he would be eaten by all these hatching babies.

As the chirps continued to grow louder and louder and the cracking eggs split open, the swordsman gulped and jumped up onto the top branch of the nest.  It was then that he realized just how high up he was as he peered over the edge and found that he was high up in a tree on the side of a mountain's cliff edge.  "How the hell did I end up here?!" he cried out, though he already knew the answer.  The massive bird that had snatched him up had carried him up here and dropped him off.  Now, it was up to him to find a way down... and soon...
