About

Shirien was always a bit on the quiet side growing up. He was the kid that people would speak freely around since they knew he wasn't a tattle, he would often times sneak around a person entirely while playing basketball if the person guarding them glanced away, and while being happy to hold a conversation was hardly ever the first person to try and speak up or start one. When he was little this was just normal for him, but when he reached his teenage years he started to get self conscious about it. Should he speak up when his friends are doing stuff that could be considered bad to other people? Should he try to stomp his feet a bit so that people will actually hear him? Should he try to be more active in the starting of conversations even if he felt others would be disinterested? He put a lot of effort into being more noticeable, but instead he just felt more ashamed since people began to talk about him specifically where he was more or less a background character until that point.

When he reached adulthood he made a full one-eighty on his personality and returned to how he was as a child. Trusty, stealthy, and quiet. Being the background character as he mentally put it was much more to his liking. He didn't need to be a special snowflake in a sea of normality, he'd rather just be a normal guy getting paid living expenses and a game now and then. He was never in his life a man of expensive tastes. Give him a well cooked hunk of meat or a fruit and you'll never go astray with his stomach. His apartment followed suit. He got the smallest and cheapest apartment he could. A room to rest and sleep in, a bathroom, and a small kitchen. Despite how some people might look at how he lived, he was happiest with just this.

At one point VR technology had begun to fascinate him. He had always been a player of video games and reader of manga, but now he could 'live' a new life. Provided the tech actually spoke truly and wasn't just using market speak. One way or another a package appeared in his mail containing a certain helmet and then another with a game titled Sword Art Online. His expectations were low at best, but when he actually logged into the game for the first time he was greatly impressed! Not everything was perfect, but it was damn close he wouldn't notice if he wasn't explicitly looking! He spent a few hours testing out the upper limits of his new body, and then browsed every tab of every menu to confirm what he could do mechanically. Before long he found what every other player had discovered.

He was trapped.

Virtues

Trusty: He isn't the type who will reveal your secrets or betray someone without good reason. As a child he was raised to never tell a lie, but also not to blindly tell the truth. As a child his friends would often speak about secret things with him around since it was clear he would never betray them or tell the other students. This filled him with pride as a secret keeper who secretly knew far more than he let on.

Calm: He prides himself in keeping a level head and not getting too emotionally invested in nothing. He didn't judge people for doing things he wouldn't do, he didn't start fights with people he hated or tried to taunt him, and he wouldn't get upset simply because he got rewards that were lesser to somebody else's. Besides, outspoken people get a lot of attention, something he wasn't overly keen on.

Friendly: Despite his inherent lack of social skills and tendency to not get involved with things not his business unless intensely curious, he is not a negatively minded person. He enjoys attempting to be witty, being spoken to, and doing people favors. He'll never turn down a chance to be social or enjoy some company, he just doesn't actively seek it out.

Flaws

Antisocial: He has never been a social butterfly, and he would freely admit it to you. He enjoys peace and quiet, as well as listening to everything and anything he can. If he isn't paying attention to something, he is missing something in the grand scheme of the world. For this reason he is rarely the one to speak first or approach someone for something. All of that said however, he is not unfriendly or against speaking with people. He actually enjoys being approached, if not returning the favor.

Lazy: He didn't get where he was in life by grabbing every opportunity and climbing to every peak. In school he did the bare minimum foolishly, and in his working life he enjoyed the low-tier low-responsibility jobs where he simply did his job day in and day out until he was given his money and could laze around at home playing games or walking around town. Odds are if he is out and about, it's for a very specific purpose and he intends to return to hibernation the moment he is done.

Semi-chaotic: He does a lot of things on a whim. His entire gaming career he has taken an erratic or neutral road. He is just as likely to stalk you for three days wearing a mask just to mess with you as he is to wave at someone he recognizes as they pass each other. Why? Because it's fun. If he feels he can get a hint of a thrill out of screwing with someone and it won't bite him later, he just might do it. That said he isn't going to shiv you most likely.

Story so far

(This will be edited as the story progresses, removing vague parts and adding new parts as I go.)

Shirien spent until the unlocking of 15th floor to start doing any actual adventuring. Until that point he had been wallowing in his own sloth and apathy while the other players worked to free him for all intents. At the moment however he felt the desire to check the progress being made by visiting the Town of Beginnings where a list of the dead was kept and where news was likely to reach his ear. He could potentially meet someone to spur him into action, or he could end up regressing further if things go poorly.
