[PP-F3] <<Worn Out Welcome>> The Dream Team (Adhaerere, Verus) COMPLETE

"You are NOT taller than me." She grinned and stood on her tippy toes for half a second, trying to prove to him that she was taller. "I'm freakishly tall. You're only sort of freakishly tall." She grinned wider at him and then had to face the oncoming creature.

It rushed at her again, and she tried to use her basic attack seeing that she had no energy, but the monster evaded her again. She groaned as she realized exactly how much she had been missing the mobs; they'd been very wily lately, or else she was just getting worse. She didn't have time to think of it though, because she was getting stabbed again. She sighed. That wouldn't seem to end.

"We're getting barefoot when we get back to town and settling this. I am so taller than you." His mood had changed, and for the better. With each successful attack brought more confidence, almost like the snowball effect. Each hit on a mob would bring another hit, and another and so on. Verus just had to find his stride and stay on it for as long as possible. He currently was on one, as his next thrust pierced into the elf's leg, whittling down it's health yet again. He was too tired to use any of his sword arts, instead settling for the low damage dealing basic attacks. It would take just a few more to defeat the beast, and he'd need to rest again soon after. Who knows, maybe she would carry him again like that one time. He could only hope.

Adhae took a deep breath, encouraged by the sound of Verus' blade hitting the flesh of the animal. She brought up her weapon, and without trying to activate her sword skill, she went after it with only the sharp blade of her battleaxe.

She had to wait a second to line up her shot, because without the sword art it was significantly harder to aim. She was about to bring her axe down, when she saw the creature going after Verus. This startled her, because the creature wasn't supposed to go after him. She was the tank, what the heck. It galvanized her into action, chopping her axe down towards the front of the creature in order to block it from Verus. She narrowly missed the boy himself, and scolded herself inwardly for taking such a risk.

"Did you just?" Verus exclaimed before taking a step back from her now ground-driven axe in front of him. He could've lost a toe, or some of his beautiful hair. In all seriousness though it was rather close to where his feet were. That [censored] would have hurt like hell, being a giant axe and all. However, he held his composure and thrusted forward above the axe, landing his hit on the elf once again. It was a long and tedious process but the mob fell, turning into the ever-so familiar red particles. That fight lasted MUCH LONGER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. "Jesus man....i'm out of it. Maybe i'm getting out of shape." He laughed his statement and slumped his shoulders forward, panting slightly.

"I'm sure you are, you lazy ass. It's super easy for you to get lazy in a video game." She grinned at him to show she was joking, and moved the blade of her axe over to by her own feet to lean on the hilt. "Sorry for almost chopping your legs off. My bad," she teased, her grin widening. "At least it's dead now. That certainly did take a lot longer than I thought it would. Let's just move on, I'm sure we're very close to the actual quest elf guy." She sighed. "I expected us to be done already," she said as she put her battleaxe behind her back again, swinging the strap over her left shoulder. She patted Verus' own shoulder with her hand. "Let's go you lazy bum. We've dawdled too much already!" As she shouted this, the silence of the forest crept back in. She had gotten used to the sound of steel hitting steel and flesh in the time it had taken them to kill the creature. Even just thinking about this, there was another scream. "...hurry up," she said, her voice dropping to a whisper.

"The laziest of asses." Verus grinned and sheathed his sword, listening to the metallic sound it made. It was nice and calming, putting him into an even better mood. That kill had given him the boost that he needed to continue on. It was still darker than night but he felt just a bit better about himself. "Legs are a good thing to have. They keep me working you know." He joked, following behind her and listening to her speak of the quest. His energy was slowly coming back to him and he felt a good deal better already, but knew he would take a few more minutes to get back up to full strength. The two of them got to watch Adhae's armor play a huge role in that last fight. It took nearly all of the damage that elf did and neglected nearly all of it. With protection like that Verus felt rather good about their chances. "I'm coming, I'm coming no worries."

Adhae shuddered visibly, extremely creeped out by the forest. She could hardly see anything still, and shared Verus's desire for a torch or something to light their way. Her greatest fear at th moment was finding out what was making those screams; she had an idea of it being those elves, but she didn't want to find out. Really didn't. Even thinking about it sent shivers down her spine; she always had a vivid imagination. The pictures she'd seen of faceless, heartless creature were enough to discomfort her. Every slight turn they made to get around a tree made her imagine something creeping up behind it. Once, she thought she saw something moving behind the tree, and jumped. She reached back to grab Verus's shirtsleeve, and pull him in the other direction roughly. She didn't let go of him from there on out.

"Getting all handsy...." Verus poked fun at her, looking around at the dark in front of them. It had not changed for one second; leading him to believe that they were lost. He had hoped that that wasn't the case. Hopefully they had just been funneled towards whatever boss they needed to fight, but he had no idea. He should've paid more attention to the shopkeepers description of the quest. Maybe it would've given him some insight on what to suspect in the quest, but he had a slight feeling that unbearable darkness was mentioned. The ground they were walking on seemed to be lessening in width, almost like it was leading to something. The foliage that he could make out also seemed to back up his idea. It was about to start soon. "Adhae get your weapon ready...."

"Oh, shut up." She didn't copy his joking tone, and kept her own quiet. As Verus sensed something, Adhae followed his warning and pulled her axe into her hands, letting go of Verus' shirtsleeve as she did so. It made her feel less safe, but she was okay for as long as she could hear his footsteps beside her. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and advanced forwards.

After a few more steps in, she could tell he had been right. They had stepped into a clearing, which she could see clearly... Oh, that was what was different. There was light here, a low light that she couldn't identify the source of at first. Afterwards she noticed the fireflies flitting around in the air. Makes sense. The outside of the clearing was thick wall of trees and shrubs, forming an impenetrable looking barrier. So the only entrance was where they had just approached from; this would do good to remember. She had no doubt in her mind that this was the miniboss fight.

Just then, something stepped out from the dark curtain of trees right across from them. It stood several feet taller than her, and had the same pointed ears that the other elves they had fought had sported. She noticed the black eyes that seemed to stare directly into her very soul, and felt a chill race down her spine. It took a few seconds for her to recover and begin advancing towards the beast. It was quiet enough for her to hear her own breath and heartbeat, and she wondered if Verus could also hear the latter.

She saw it begin rushing at her, and noticed for the first time the gleam of the giant dagger in its hand. As it lashed out at her, she managed to dodge it. Its size made it clumsy, which definitely was to Adhae's advantage. She took the opportunity to swing her axe at the creature, charging up her sword skill as she did so. She planted a solid swing in its side near its ribcage, watching in satisfaction as it staggered under the force of the shockwave that came after the hit because of the sword skill. She called out to Verus as it was unable to react. "Get it quick, but I think I've figured out how it chooses its targets. It's whoever hits it more. So, if you see it weak but I missed it, and we've hit it the same amount of times, hold off. We don't want it attacking you and absolutely wrecking you." She smirked, and prepared for its next attack.

His eyes took some time to process the sensation of light. It shone brighter than what he was used to, though that may have been that his eyes had become so accustomed to the darkness in the tunnel. It gave way to what they were walking through; walls made of branches and shrubs. It was a surreal sensation of sight that he had been longing for the moment his surroundings went back. He felt slightly safer knowing that he'd be able to see clearer, but knew that he shouldn't think that way. Something was about to happen.

The dark figure had appeared from the shadows, almost as if it was there the whole time. It stood in the center of the light, letting it gleam down on its dark purple body. It was wearing what most of the other elf's wore; minimal armor. However it was modified slightly, showing the mob's past encounters with other players and what they had done to it. It was a well created mob, no doubt. It also gave off a vibe that it would tower over the two of them. Not many things were taller than Verus. This thing was taller than Verus. Verus did not take lightly to that.

He drew his rapier and held it at his side as he always did before a fight. This one would be pretty tough for him. He had some levels sure but was still equipped with basic items and armor. Verus desperately needed an upgrade to his arsenal and this reward would put him a step towards the right direction. After a few short breaths, he tried to pump himself up, jumping around slightly. He needed to find his stride and get this thing dead fast. He wanted his armor.

Adhae went first like always and landed a solid first hit, dealing what appeared to be minimal damage. That hadn't mattered to him though, what mattered would be his sword art landing. Verus waited until after the elf had targeted her, giving him an open shot. "Accel Stub!" Verus nodded to her statements, too fully immersed to understand what she was saying. His attack landed right under the mob's ribcage, each leaving a little it of his purple essence behind. "Decent."

Taking his nod as confirmation that he'd understood her, Adhae turned her focus back to the mob. Now that she was closer to it, she noticed some more things about it. Its hair was a lot neater than the other two mobs they had faced earlier in the quest. It had a tie that seemed to be made out of some sort of leather keeping it held back. It still was filled with grease, like the other ones. Adhae curled her lip up at it. "Take a shower, you brute." She noticed its armour too; it was made with a leather that looked the same as the stuff holding his hair, but there were a few yellowy-white additions to the outfit. Adhae squinted her eyes to get a better look at them, and discovered they were human bones. She recoiled instinctively, and in her moment of shock she was attacked by the Dark Elf.

It struck out at her with its sword, coming down to chop at her side with its huge knife. Adhae let out an "oof" noise as the impact sort of knocked the impact out of her, causing her to slide a few feet as well. This made her angry more than anything. In reaction, she turned to it and roared, lashing out with her battleaxe. She had decided to not use any of her sword skills, acounting for the fact that they wouldn't do more damage to the beast than she would do with a regular attack. And even so, all that counted was her hitting the thing.

And this she managed to do, chopping her axe downwards and smacking it in the arm. It lacked a lot of the strength of her Whirlwind skill, but it hit, and made the thing madder. She shouted some encouragement to Verus. "One more hit from you and it's down. Don't miss, squirt." She smirked.

Adhae's comments had made him smirk. They were so controlled and held back, with the only reasoning behind it that Verus could think of was her history of teaching children. It was funny to see it come out on the battlefield and put him into a lighthearted mood. Her attacks wouldn't do much, but what they did do was draw the beasts attention away from the real damage. The two could chip away at each other and do minimal damage all day but not really get anywhere. As long as the focus  was off of him, the fight would be over fast.

He watched as the two traded seemingly low damage blows. However, he took it in when he watched Adhae get hit around. It must've been a weird feeling to be able to take as many hits as she was doing. Blow after blow must've been a killer on her mind, let alone her body. Just the thought of being repeatedly struck and struck to protect someone else must've felt a little strange. Adhae looked like a girl who was used to taking a pounding though so he waved it off, continuing on with his follow up attacks despite her squirt comments.

His attack landed and he stood above the beast after pulling his sword from it's back, watching as it slowly melted away. "So....that was it?"

She watched in approval as he finished off the boss, and nodded to him, walking over to see the loot screen pop up. They only got 1 material from the kill... But they got their quest item. Good.

"...I guess." She laughed in response to his question. The mob was a little lackluster compared to what she'd expected. The forest had hyped them up for something much bigger and scarier. They had dispatched this mob in 4 hits. Much easier than they'd expected. "We have the materials for your armour, let's head back. And let's just run from any mobs we find, I'm sick of this forest." She glanced upwards, looking at the canopy of dark leaves woven together above their heads that blocked out all sunlight. She'd miss the tiny fireflies. She reached out her hand and tried to grab one to maybe take with her, but it was insubstantial. She sighed softly and then headed her way out of the clearing, finding the same place they'd entered it easily.

Contrary to what she'd thought, they made it out of the forest with relative ease. Nothing tried to stop them, and it seemed like the forest was the tiniest bit lighter. Even so, she breathed easier once they saw the warm light of day again. She shielded her eyes with her hand to let them adjust to the change in brightness as they walked to the path again. Soon, they would reach the village again. Adhae strode confidently into the shop, leading the way. Once they got to the counter, she let Verus do all of the exchanging of items and such.

"Take this." Verus opened lifted up the required materials and plopped them on the counter, eyeing the NPC. "The darkness could have been noted you know." The blacksmith responded with a pre-programmed line and ended up fleeing to one of the backrooms for a moment. Verus tapped his fingers on the countertop until the NPC came back with some pretty standard looking leather armor. Verus nodded to him and took it from his hands, instantly rooming his clothing from his menu. He stood there almost fully naked for a moment and equipped his armor, adjusting himself to see how he looked. It was aight.
