[PP F1-F5] <<Earning a Living>> - Student of the Hammer (Opal) - COMPLETED

Recommended Posts

Cygnus looked at Opal in awe as she made short work of the scorpions, coming out of the battle without a scratch on her for the most part. As she approached him and suggested they move on, he replied with a brief nod. "Oh, yes. Capital idea." He hurried along and followed after her, keeping an eye on the mobs just in case he got too close to them. He still had no idea what level Opal was, but by how she trashed those mobs like they were nothing, Cygnus figured she was a very high level indeed. At least, far higher than he was. The warrior would stick close behind her, however, looking ahead to their goal; the pyramid. The thought of the shiny, new hammer that awaited him made the aspiring blacksmith more than a little excited. He kept his sword drawn in case a situation presented itself where he needed to defend his life. These things didn't even scratch Opal, but he wouldn't take the chance of engaging them, no matter how much the prospect excited him. He had to remember that he had to keep himself alive. For Himiko's sake.

"That's half of them!" The woman explained flicking her blade out and to the side as several more of the scorpions guarding the pyramid had been deceased by her massive blade. Her violet eyes looked through the weathering sea of sand as they were coming closer and closer to the pyramid itself. The woman hefted the Masamune over her shoulder and smiled. "There ya go again with that word...It's like straight out of a Sherlock Holmes novel or something..." the woman flicked her blade, "Not that I would know anything about that." She smoothed the hair from her eyes as the white tendrils rolled over her shoulder.

"Just a little more and we can finish these things off and get to the boss. I'll need some time to recuperate my energy though..Maybe, I think I only have a handful of energy items right now...." the woman was about to scour through her inventory for the said items but they were already coming up to the next batch of Scorpions.

"Alright..."

Cygnus continued to watch in awe as Opal cut down four more scorpions with her Sword Art. She had announced that she had just defeated half of the scorpions guarding their goal. The news excited the warrior. They were yet another step closer. As he gazed at the pyramid, he thought of the boss that awaited him. He wished he was strong enough to participate in the battle. He would have to come back here one day when he was of a higher level and try to take this thing down himself. He looked over at Opal when she mentioned that he was using "that word" again. He laughed and scratched his head in embarrassment. He wasn't entirely sure why he used it. Has father had used it in the past. Maybe he got it from him? "It's an old habit." He answered. "I guess it's true what they say about them." He looked around and counted the scorpions. They only had to defeat seven more. The finish line was now in sight.

Opal stopped and glared at the scorpions that were coming towards the two. She took a step back and held out her arm towards Cygnus. The long katana creating a sort of long warning sign not to pass her at this point and she slowly began to back away from the mobs, "Back up," she said taking several paces back. Her violet eyes watched as the scorpions began to back away as well as they walked away from the aggro zone. She sighed and turned to Cygnus.

"Sorry, I shall need a moment to gather my strategy. I don't want us to be caught off guard while I am only at half energy. Especially when we are about to take on Dungeon Boss. Although it is rather weak for my level, it's better to be cautious...." the woman dragged her finger across the screen of her menu and accessed the items that would help rejuvenate her energy pools. A vial of green liquid fizzled in her hand as she downed the contents. Her eyes blinking several times as she downed one of her ReEnergize drinks. The fruity substance went down smoothly and she tossed the vial as it pixelated into the dusty sand storm.

Cygnus had been following Opal when she held her arm out, signaling for him to hold. He looked ahead and saw that there were even more scoripions headed towards them. Great... he thought, holding his sword at the ready in case he was attacked. When Opal mentioned that it was always better to be cautious, Cygnus nodded in agreement, looking at his inventory of potions in case he had to fight. He was almost certain they would be fine, but as Opal mentioned, it was best to be cautious. He watched her imbibe the potion, the green liquid draining from the vial before the warrior's party member through it into the sand, where it disintegrated moments later. That would restore her energy apparently. This was good. He wasn't sure he could defend himself for long if it came down to it. Luck would have to be on his side and Cygnus didn't like those odds. He looked over at Opal as she finished drinking the potion, then over towards the scorpions. He had total confidence in her.

The scorpions grew rather restless. Their pincers clapping as their bodies moved around the aggro zone of the two adventurers. Opal's violet eyes narrowed down on the mobs and pulled out another vial of the same green liquid and downed the contents. She went ahead and used two just to speed things up a little bit, but she knew this fight was not yet quite finished until they secured that Hammer for the player Cygnus. And she would not let the man down either, but then again, why would she even bother? Did she even need to help him out? She could just easily enough let him die by the stingers of these wild scorpions. Was this some former honor she had, a subconscious hold from her days as Vice Commander? She scoffed at her own thoughts breaking the bubble between them and herself.

A cold voice stirred the arid heat of the outside world, "Stay put." Almost a demand given to the Knight. Immediately as she got close to them, they spun their bodies about and attacked her in unison. Their steel like stingers coming down to eviscerate her, but she was too much for their measly attack. She would wait for a moment to attack and then unleash unbridled hell upon her foes.

Cygnus growled when Opal missed her attack. Without thinking, he rushed in, executing his Sword Art, Fight Blade. He chained strike after strike, slicing each of the scorpions in half. They exploded into a rain of blue pixels. After checking to see how many scorpions were left, and smiling when he realized there were only a few, he turned to Opal and shouldered his weapon. "Sorry about that. I just thought you might be able to use a hand." He gestured towards the final group of scorpions protecting their destination. "We're almost there, it seems. Just a few more of these beasts to take care of."

Opal had only taken a few steps forward before she had noticed from the corner of her eye that the brazen warrior toting his sword came charging out from behind her. Snow white hair drifted upwards from the movement he carried as he stood stalwart and decimated the scorpions before her. Her dark eyes looked to him, she would have beaten him senseless for such a stupid thing...but on the other hand she admired his ability to take charge of a situation and overcome it. She had thought he was a weak player, but seeing his combat prowess first hand. She had opted to keeping her mouth shut, "Nice work there, Cowboy. Just don't let it go to your head. Unless you want to take on the Pharaoh yourself." her smirk was dark as she looked to him. Knowing full well that he probably dropped his load all on that attack, the woman nodded to him, "Better let me take it from here. Even if I miss, I can still tank these little assholes." she suggested, unless he could pull off another maneuver like the last one he did, this was gonna be a long battle yet again.

The remaining scorpions came on her quickly. Their large stingers doing much more damage to her than previously. More than likely angered by their mere presence as they were now only feet away from the Pyramid itself. The woman, while taking the hits, dismissed the weak attacks by not even staggering back but she kept an eye on the pyramid itself. From the short distance she could see dust and sand crumbling from the walls...The Nameless Pharaoh would soon be awake.

Cygnus looked at his energy bar when Opal mentioned him fighting the pharaoh on his own. He shook his head vigorously. "Oh, no. I wouldn't want to do that." He hurried to catch up to his partner. In truth, he didn't let his successful strike go to his head. The warrior didn't let much go to his head, in fact. He knew that Fight blade, though devestating to the opponent and impressive to look at, was the most expensive Sword art in his arsenal. It took literally the entirety of his Energy to use. He went ahead and tried for it for the glory though. Maybe it wasn't the best idea. He decided to let Opal handle the rest and just decided to hang back as he saw her fighting the group of scorpions, and missing them yet again. "Come on! you can do this!" He shouted in encouragement. He knew she could handle it and she seemed pretty confident as well, so the warrior wasn't worried.

The woman was about to strike the scorpions when the ground had rumbled. Jaken shot up and pointed a green finger towards the direction of the noise as the entrance of pyramid was destroyed. A loud grimacing roar echoed out of the blasting winds of the hot sands as the Nameless Pharaoh came charging out towards her, "Oh sh-" A golden instrument had hit her in the gut as she was pulverized by the blunt weapon. Her eyes blurring from the intense strike knocking her squarely down on her buttox.

"Nameless Pharaoh; one. Opal..."
"Don't you even say it, Jaken. Or you'll be his meal next." The woman got up and patted her body down of the loose sand and narrowed those violent eyes. Her blade shimmered with an aggressive aura. That purple glow now illuminating the blade as she charged forward striking the Nameless One as well as the rest of the mobs. Her skillful blade swept through the bodies of the trash mobs, eviscerating them as they blew up into colorful dust. As for the Pharaoh. It was angered and looked to her as it readied that weapon once more to attack her.

"Bring it on..."

Cygnus gasped and shouted Opal's name as she was struck by the golden hammer they were after. He clearly had no reason to worry about her though as she recovered quickly and delievered a retalitory strike. He cheered as she took off over half of the thing's HP. She clearly wouldn't need his help at all, and even if she did, he doubted he'd be of much use. He wasn't sure how much damage this thing did, but it was a lot. Of that, he was certain. He simply hung back, hoping Opal's next blow struck true. He would cheer her on until this thing was defeated, he decided. They almost had this thing beaten and this quest was nearly finished. He smiled. He had to keep in contact with Opal. She wasn't unpleasant at all once you got to know her. In fact, Cygnus thought that she could probably be considered a friend.

Opal narrowed her eyes once more as the strike was coming in hot. She stepped to the left, feeling the hot wind break through her bubble of cold aura that wrapped around her body. Her white hair splintered off into the wind as she raised her katana and came down crashing it into the Pharaoh's arm, disarming the creature along with the hammer it dropped. Twisting around on her foot, the woman grabbed the hilt by both hands and swung the Masamune around like a top for her second strike. Four more cuts succeeded the first two and the Pharaoh went down without any further problems. The woman breathed heavily as it pixelated into nothing swinging her body around and shouldering her weapon. She gestured to the fallen hammer on the ground, "As promised." she said.

The woman scrapped her finger across the pop up, giving Cygnus the majority of the rewards except for the experience.

"I'll follow you back to Armadillo, but after that we go our separate ways...Unless you care to join me for a cold bath at my place?" She asked amusingly so, thick lips curling into a smile, "Kidding of course...Let's go, Jaken. We are done here."

Cygnus cheered as Opal finished the boss off with ruthless efficiency. He liked her style. They would have to go hunting some time. He looted the hammer and took the Col and materials. There certainly were a lot. He doubled his material stockpile and almost doubled his Col too. Since he planned on becoming a Blacksmith, these materials would certainly prove useful. He bowed politely to Opal. "Many thanks for helping me through this. I wouldn't have had close to this much success alone." He nodded when Opal stated she'd escort him back to town and then leave unless he wanted to join her for a bath. The brunette choked up, his face going beet red. "U-Um... I..." before he could voice a refusal or an acceptance, Opal told him that she was just joking. He laughed nervously after that. "Right. A joke." The pair made their way back to town. Cygnus for sure grew from this experience. He'd take the lessons he learned and apply them elsewhere. He looked up at the clouds, a smile on his face the whole way back.
