For the first 16 years of Zaun's life, he lived normally, like most kids his age did. He went to school, had friends, two parents and a sister, and a job. There wasn't a single difference between him and other people he knew. Although there were some women he was interested, he'd never had a girlfriend or even attempted to get one. In short, he lived a boring life. Of course, it didn't last long. Usually, Zaun would bike to and from work. This day was no different from other days. However, he had decided to leave work early one day. Nobody was in the office and he wasn't a fan of staying without any work to do. Hopping on his bike, he rode home, listening to music in attempt to speed up time a bit. Upon arriving at his house, he noticed that none of the lights were on. This was odd, because his shift ended late and he had only left a half hour early. It had already started to become dark and normally, his parents would start turning the lights off to show they were inside. He knew they hadn't left the house, since their car was still in the driveway and it was rare for them to leave without it. Another thing that caught his eye was the front door that sat wide open. That wasn't normal.

Zaun rushed inside of his house and sprinted towards the living room, where he found the bodies of his two dead parents. He was in shock, unsure of what to do. Quickly, he pulled out his cell phone and dialed nine-one-one. His voice was shaky, but he tried his best to stay calm and speak clearly into the phone. The police were to show up minutes after he called and he was asked to wait outside the house. He did as they asked. He didn't understand what had happened. He couldn't think of anybody who would've wanted his family killed. Suddenly, something occurred to him. His sister was stepping up to the house, since apparently she hadn't been home all day. Something about her friends birthday, although that didn't matter. Zaun stood up and stopped her from walking towards the house, before pulling her into a hug. Seconds later, the police pulled up and handled the situation. He and his sister were minors, so they were sent to live with their grandparents. Years later, NerveGear was announced. Zaun had lost most of his contact with his friends and family, even his sister, who he had been very close with. In the end, all he had left was Sword Art Online.

Virtues:

Intelligent: Zaun was a straight-A student, with above average marks in school. Outside of that, he was very open-minded and paid close attention to smaller details. This is one of the reasons he had been interested in becoming a police officer. This virtue has enabled him to start conversations with ease, something that a lot of people have trouble doing. It is also useful for thinking quickly in high-stress situations. 

Social: Throughout his school years, Zaun was a social butterfly. He had friends in every different group. The "sporty" kids, the "nerds", the "druggies", etc etc etc. He was skilled in the art of being easy to like. He knew exactly how to talk to almost anyone he met. This helped a lot with his teachers in school, since a lot of them happened to be unhappy at all times. A quick conversation could usually turn their opinion towards him around in an instant.

Kind: Zaun was never someone that people looked at and said, "That guy is really mean-looking." He had always been a friendly person and tried his best to not anger people. He was also quite easy-going. If someone did something that would make most people angry, he usually wouldn't be phased by it. Of course, not everyone could stay calm 24/7. He got angry from time to time, just like everyone else.

Flaws:
Judgemental: This can be both a virtue and a flaw, depending on the situation at hand. However, most of the time it is a flaw. At some times, it could save his life. If someone starts a conversation with him and he decides they seem dangerous, he won't talk to them. Unfortunately, he often misjudges people, and although he won't say anything to them about it. Usually, if they are misjudged, he will simply apologize about his misunderstanding.

Nosey: Zaun's curiosity can sometimes get him into trouble. In other cases, he can end up helping someone out. It all depends on who's conversation he's listening in on, what they're talking about, and his reputation with them. It's something that Zaun is unable to help. He will always be overly curious about things, to the point where it can get him into some interesting situations.

Overprotective: After the death of his incredible parents, Zaun became overprotective over his sister and friends. He'd have no issues with escorting them to places if they needed it and he felt it was necessary. And even if he didn't think it was necessary, he'd do it if they believed it was. Being a fairly muscular man, he thought it was safer to have him around then let his friends and younger sister walk to different places alone. He was more overprotective towards his sister than anyone else. Since she was quite a bit younger than him, he'd make sure he knew where she was at all times and he wouldn't let her go to certain parties and places without his consent. Of course, since he wasn't her parent or guardian, he could not always stop her from leaving.
