(SP-F6-NK) Primal Instincts <<Calming the Soul>>

Recommended Posts

Hakai was once again on the sixth floor, although this time her purpose wasnt to wander about and hope that something happened. She had done her research this time, and was heading somewhere specifically. A waterfall called the Waterfall of the Sage. She was goignt o do the Calming the Soul quest, one that she had heard was lifechanging and sometimes quite difficult. She doubted that it lived up to it's reputation however. The skill it would give her would be useful if she decided to invest in it, and the skill points she received from it would help her get even closer to that tier two gear that she wanted so badly. If only Xion would message her to go on a quest with him as well, and she might actually be where she needed to be and able to join the frontlines. She frowned as she walked, hearing the rushing water up ahead that signified that she was almost to the place of the quest.

Hakai turned the corner of the path and the trees that had obscured her vision werent there anymore, and she could see the waterfall. She didnt find it very impressive, as she knew that it was a computer generated place. If this was real life and this place was natural she would have been astonished, but it wasnt. She equipped her claws and waded through the water to the stone in the center of the pool, climbing up onto it and preparing to start this quest. It appeared that the game wanted her to wait however, so she was stuck sitting there, lost in her own thoughts for quite a while. She frowned, wondering if something would ever happen, her hand tapping at her side with boredom as she sat and waited. Did she need to close her eyes or something?

Hakai didnt bother to close her eyes, instead just sitting there until she felt as though she were about to fall asleep from the sheer boredom. Finally a figure started to take shape in front of her. It was a faceless humanoid, about her height. With a gesture of it's hand it seemed to will into existence four doors. The first door had a symbol on it, of a figure hiding behind a spiked wall. The rest of the symbols were blurry, and she couldnt make out what was on them. Possibly they would become clear as she went through them. She entered the first door without a second thought, not particularly nervous about what she might encounter. She stepped into a swamp, the same one that she had been in with Hikoru and Xion, fighting a snake monster. It wasnt long before Xion stepped out from behind a tree. She knew that it wasnt Xion, so she rushed in and slashed at him three times. If this was actually Xion it would be able to take it. Instead it's healthbar lowered and eventually reached zero due to her DOTs. The real Xion would have put up more of a fight.

Still, she had to wonder what the deal was. She supposed that the symbol on the door and the appearance of the enemy symbolized her own fear of having to always hide behind others. Or she could subconcsiously hate Xion and want to kill him. Somehow she doubted that though. She stepped out of the swamp, her shoes dripping, and looked back at the other doors. The last two were shrouded still, but the second one clearly depicted a very familiar rapier. Thankfully this one would only  be a mob. If it was actually the woman who she suspected this rapier represented she would, for lack of a better word, have been screwed. She raised her claws and prepared to push open the door, only pausing for a moemnt to think about why this door might be here. Was it possible that she felt guilty for Manta's death somehow?

 MOB: 9

Hakai stared at the door for a moment longer before gently pushing it open and stepping out into the foggy wasteland. She could see graves jutting out of the ground every now and then. She couldn’t recall the floor number itself, but she had been here before. This was the floor that she had gotten her demonics on. She gripped her weapons tighter. She wasn’t going to even give this phantom a chance. She didn’t care if it was a fake, Manta was no one to mess around with, and even though she knew that this wasn’t actually her and would be a ton weaker, she couldn’t help but feel nervous. As Manta stepped out from the fog, Hakai ran at her and clawed through her three times. It wasn’t enough, and the mob managed to get a counter attack in before succumbing to the damage of her demonic weapons.

Hakai stepped back out of the door and onto the rock in the center of the pool. She was glad that that was over, and also curious about what the next door might contain behind it. She peered at the symbol on the door. It was a lock of purple hair. She knew what was coming and she didn’t bother to think about it much. She would do what she needed to do, whether it meant defeating a fake copy of her wife or not. She entered the inn room and immediately caught sight of her beautiful wife. She didn’t pause and instead slammed her claws into the fake immediately, ten times in all, until it burst into crystals. She wasn’t going to mess around with this and she certainly wasn’t going to give any of these false mobs a chance to speak to her. She walked back out of the door and turned to look at the remaining one.

 Battle: 5 Miss

 MOB: 4 Miss

The symbol on the final door wasnt even a symbol really, but rather a set of claw marks, three lines crudely slashed across the door. She had no clue what that meant. The other doors symbols had been fairly obvious, depicting something about someone who meant quite a bit to her. These were just crude claw marks, like the sort her own wild dance weapons might make. She gently pushed the door open and stepped into a cave. Across from her, at the back of the cave, there was a giant wildcat, ripping into a dead boar. This would be easy. All the other ones had been. She raised her claws and ran at the wildcat, swiping. Her claws met thin air however, the wildcat easily dodged and swiping a claw at her. She dodged it easily, even with how fast and unexpected the attack was.

 Battle: 5 Miss

 MOB: 8-3=5 Miss

Hakai looked the wildcat over, noting the roiling muscles underneath it's skin that were clearly visible. The swiped at it halfheartedly, to evoke a response. The wild cat lunged forwards as she started her swipe, attempting to slam it's jaws around her leg. She barely dodged it, the two of them returning to prowling in a circle and trying to anticipate the others next move. This mob wasnt like the other ones. It hadn't hit her yet, but it was plain to see that it was more intelligent, as well as faster and stronger, than the last ones she had fought. She would have to be extra careful with this one. This could get dangerous if she wasnt extremely careful with her every move from here on out. She could die if she wasnt fighting at her best.

Hakai stared the wildcat down, raising her claws and rushing the mob, slashing at it four times, each of her attacks hitting home. It just barely wasnt enough however, and the wildcat pounced on her, pinning her to the grand before biting at her neck. As it finished it's attack it burst into crystals, it's health points finally eroded to zero by her damage over time effects. The pixels showered her, and she almost had the feeling of merging with the wild animal. She sat up, rubbing the red pixilated lines on her neck. That mob had done a ton of damage to her in a single attack. It could have been bad if she hadnt managed toend it so quickly. She had really just gotten lucky with the critical and damage over time effects.

She stepped out of the door, it slamming shut behind her. She turned to face the faceless person, and it nodded, waving it's hands again. The doors dissapeared, and moments later the figure did too. A quest complete screen popped up in front of her, highlighting how many skill points she had recieved and the new skill that was available to her. Now that she read it she really wasnt all that interested in it. She didnt really need energy, she had her damage over time. She glanced around the area before stepping down off of the rock and wading her way to the shore, wondering what she was supposed to do for the rest of the day. She had already done an important quest, and she didnt have anything else planned for her day. She had thought that this would take a ton longer.

She stared out at the jungle, letting out a sigh. Why did things always turn out like this? It was certainly a sign that she was getting a lot stronger, the fact that she could solo something so quickly and, for the most part, easily. She needed to start planning new things for her day. Such as multiple quests or meetings with her friends or those who could help get her in touch with those who she needed to get in touch with. She sat down on the shore of the pond, thinking about what had happened and what everything had symbolized. Xion was obviously her fear of having to hide in other peoples shadows. She knew about that, and it was one of the things that bothered her the most. She wanted to be able to take care of herself and be on an equal level with everyone else, not have to hide behind them.

Manta she could understand pretty easily. Maybe it was her lack of caring about her death that caused the guilt that caused her to care about Manta's death. So she did care about Manta's death, but only because she didnt care and felt bad about it. She frowned. That made sense, but at the same time didnt at all. What was life anymore. She lay back on her back, trying to decipher what exactly she had thought up. It really seemed to make sense but then again it also seemed to rely on itself to prove itself. It was an interesting paradox, but one that didn't hold her attention for too long. She sat back up after only a few moment, already bored with the line of thought. She continued on to Sierra. That was easy, she didnt waste any time thinking on that one. Now the wildcat, that one seemed to represent her own wild side, and when she killed it it was almost like she was embracing that side of herself.

She stood up. That was that. She was done with this and she was done trying to think up what the symbols might mean. She was lazy and easily bored, and she wasnt one to sit on her back all day to try to decipher philosophy or whatever it was called. She patted her claws to make sure that they were attached tightly, not wanting to leave them there by accident. She started to walk back up the path, hyper aware of everything that was going on around her, much more so than she had been before. Maybe doing that quest had helped wake her up. She had been sleep all day. And it wasnt like there was that much going on around her to focus on. Just falling leaves and the chittering of all of the random insects that inhabited the forest. There was the occasional cry of an animal, but beyond that really nothing.

She was still bored, and really had nothing to do for the rest of the day besides be bored and wander around again. This was looking to be a repeat of the day before. She had purposefully chosen this quest because it was supposed to take forever to complete and she wanted something to do for the entire day. Now she had finished it in less than an hour and was stuck with nothing else to do for the rest of the day. She ran her hands over the handles of her claws, impatiently. She kind of wanted to find a field boss somewhere, but at the same time she just didnt want to go to all of that trouble when she probably wouldnt get anything good from it. She ran a hand through her hair and glanced around the jungle again before starting to walk back down the path towards the floors main settlement.

She trudged along the path, not really paying attention to much. She wasnt all that happy with how the day was turning out, and she figured that she needed to find something else to do that would be even remotely productive. She frowned and looked around her again, trying to think up something to do that didnt involve wandering and doing nothing. Nothing was coming to mind however. Her frown deepened and her eyes turned towards the ground. What could she possibly do to spice up the day? She opened up her inventory and glanced through her items. Nothing. Not that shed really expected to find something in her inventory that would magically make her not bored. It was just filled with a bunch of equipment.

She switched through her inventory and glanced over the very short list that constituted her friend list. There was no one there who would be available right now either, so she was stuck on her own. She frowned. Maybe she could visit some of the higher floors just for a change of scenery. She actually was unfamiliar with most of the high level floors, so it would be an adventure of sorts. Maybe she could go to that graveyard floor and search for material or explore a newer level, one she had never been on and didnt know what awaited. Both sounded much more interesting than trudging through a jungle trying to think of things to do. She could look at a guide.... Or she could make it a surprise. She picked a floor off the top of her head, randomly selecting a number. It looked like she was going to floor sixteen.

She made it back to the main settlement of the floor about a half of an hours later, heading straight to the teleport. She supposed that her greatest weakness was her tendency to boredom. She didnt see any way to fix that though, so instead she was a slave to her own desires, just like everyone else. She hopped onto the teleport podium and headed to the sixteenth floor. Upon arrival she was immediately taken about by how primitive everything looked. There were buildings, but they were more like huts than anything. It looked as though she had stumbled on the floor of the cavemen. The huts looked to be made up of sticks, bones and some sort of skins. She wondered if they were programmed to actually hunt mobs and gather skins to build the huts.

She didnt like the place. It was just a matter of it not looking like very much fun. It was forest and barbarians and their huts. She could only imagine what they did for fun. More than likely they were her sort of people, wild and unrefined, preferring to sort things out with fighting. Still, she wasnt out to find fake people with the same interests as her, she wanted to find new things and explore. She was already bored looking at the hide and bone huts that these people had constructed. She turned back to the teleport, thinking to herself. At least now she knew what the sixteenth floor was like. She had gotten something from the experience, even if it was a short and seemingly meaningless one. Where to now? She randomly picked a number off of the top of her head.

She arrived on the fourteenth floor, and gazed around her with awe. The place looked like hell itself. She liked it. She glanced around the main settlement. At first glance, to her, it looked like a warcamp of sorts. She liked it as well. She walked out further into the camp, and then outside of the safezone. She smirked. If she was ever going to get a house, this would be the floor. She ran a hand over her claws nervously. Who knew when a mob of some kind might show up. She glanced around, noting the rivers of lava and the black earth that made up most of the ground. This was the sort of place that she wanted to explore. It looked awesome, like something out of a fantasy movie. She brushed her hair out of her eyes, smiling to herself. She could already tell that she was going to have fun with this.
