About: History/personality

Tessa Relane was born to an upper-middle-class family as the youngest of 4 (all older brothers). Her father was a mechanical engineer and her mother was an architect, and they raised Tessa and her brothers to be brilliant at everything they did. She excelled in school, skipped a grade, and then graduated high school a year early before heading off to college to dual-major in History and Art History on a scholarship.

Tessa's home life was pretty standard -- she was never abused or neglected, and while she had her disagreements with her family she knew they loved her and she loved them. Her older brothers were her best friends growing up, but being around them made her a bit tougher since they were constantly fighting verbally and physically. Tessa's big mouth had a tendency to get her in trouble in school, since she had no qualms with calling people out (student or teacher) for being academically or morally wrong. Her brothers always had her back though, and they taught her that protecting the people you care about should always come first. Her mother was sure to reinforce the sentiment, constantly reminding them that nobody has your back like family.

It was thanks to Tessa's brothers that she got interested in video games in the first place. By the time she was old enough to hold a controller her brothers had her joining them in their virtual adventures. Strangely enough, she loved to watch her brothers' play as much as she enjoyed playing the games herself. She liked being able to enjoy the story without enduring the stress of having to fight all the enemies, so she would often sit back and cheer her brothers on. This also taught her a lot about human nature, as she spent so much time reading her brothers' reactions to events in the games, and comparing them to her own. Video games offered her and her siblings the getaway they needed when their parents went through a rocky divorce, and the once joined-at-the-hip siblings found themselves split between parents, sometimes going a year without seeing the others. They used video games to keep in touch when their parents weren't speaking. Things got easier once they were all old enough to live on their own, and eventually their parents reached a sort of equilibrium, but the years of in-fighting instilled in Tessa a cynicism that often manifests in sharp sarcasm.

It was Tessa's brothers who got her SAO and the NerveGear as a gift, hoping it would give her a way to relax since she was so swamped at college. When they gave it to her they made her promise to let them have a go after she's played it for a few days, and she laughed and agreed to it.

Virtues:

Determined -- Necryptonix sets goals and sticks to them with an almost manic focus.. She doesn't believe in giving up, seeing it as a sign of weakness that would be unforgivable. Her single-minded pursuit of her goals can occasionally appear like obsession to others, but she doesn't mind. She wasn't raised to be a quitter. As long as she finishes what she started - that's what matters.

Protective -- She's quick to jump in and help anyone who needs it, and has no qualms about putting herself in the way of harm for the sake of another person, but when it comes to her friends or family she is violently protective. She will defend the people she cares about no matter what, in both word and deed. She will not stand by and allow anyone to gossip or speak badly of her friends, and often takes it upon herself to treat the offenders to a good verbal lashing, or more.

Analytical -- Nix has a good memory, which allows her to analyse every interaction with a person to her satisfaction long after it happened, and she prides herself on her ability to read people. She loves to find the best solution to a problem, and takes a particular pleasure in running through every option, thinking through every available path until she knows the issue inside and out. This makes her a good strategist, and her trust in her analytical prowess fuels her determination to complete the goal.

Humor -- Necryptonix has a habit of using laughter to fix any situation. If a friend is sad, she does everything in her power to make them laugh even if it means making a fool of herself (though being reminded of it may make her cringe later). Awkward family get-together? Make a joke. Broken heart? Joke. Mortally wounded? Joke ("It's just a flesh wound!"). Her motto generally goes, "If I don't laugh about it, I'll cry about it. I'd rather laugh."

Flaws:

Lazy -- An object at rest will stay at rest. It can be hard to get Necryptonix going once she's laid down or eaten, and she needs a lazy day or two out of every week to keep herself balanced in both personality and body. Perhaps it's due to all the energy she exerts when in she's in her single-minded focus mindset, but once she catches a break she takes full advantage of it. She's prone to long naps, and makes it a point to sleep-in every day if she can. If she doesn't get enough sleep she can rapidly go from amiable to cranky and apathetic. This trait also tends to make her a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to tasks she finds unpleasant.

Judgmental -- Because Necryptonix holds herself to such high standards, she expects the same from everyone else around her. When someone just doesn't add up, well, she might struggle to hide her disdain. She can be too quick to pass judgment on a person, and once that happens, it can be nearly impossible to change her mind. She has a particular dislike for flaky, unfocused people who flutter from one thing to the next, and she will do everything in her power to avoid such people once she feels she has identified one.

Stubborn -- It can be hard for Necryptonix to admit she's wrong about something, probably because she doesn't like to think all the energy she put in was for nothing. Not only that, but she tends to cling to a cause long past the point of insanity or foolishness and this can get her in a lot of trouble. Her stubbornness can lead to a lot of pointless arguments, some of which she wins and some of which she's bound to lose, though she'll rarely ever admit to it. This flaw also makes it extremely difficult to change her mind about anything once she's made it up.

Over-thinker -- Her analytical tendencies can lead her to overthink the simplest things, and this can cause a lot of stress and anxiety for her. She can get herself stuck, thinking in circles until she finds a decent distraction. This bad habit can put a strain on her friendships and relationships, as she finds herself finding issues where there aren't any, or acting out based on bad assumptions. If one of her friends leave her place a little earlier than usual, or cuts a conversation short, Necryptonix may seem calm about it on the outside but inside she's desperately trying to figure out what went wrong.

Beatbox - Met on the mountain during the <<Breaking the Unbreakable>> quest, he saw her trip and helped her up. Once she was past her initial suspicion, he journeyed with her to the top of the mountain and helped her break the boulder (helped meaning he did most of the damage). She likes that he goes along with her shenanigans, and she's glad they're friends.
