[SP-F1]In Search Of The Common{Feeding the Enemy}

Recommended Posts

The town of beginnings, it was a place that Lee had seen himself coming to often and usually it held plenty of things. Though, today it was more about himself. He was going to take a day to himself for once. He was usually never one to go on outings by himself but with it being just the first level outside of the town of beginnings, it couldn't do him much harm. He would simply use this time to fight some low level monsters, look for some materials and maybe get some loot to sell if he could.

He wouldn't have to worry about checking most of his equipment as he didn't really have too much to start with in terms of interchangeable equipment. He would then begin his way toward the exit of the town but something would catch his eye as a seemingly old and decrepit woman seemed to be beckoning him. Lee would look around and behind himself, making sure it was indeed him that she was calling too. Upon noticing that there was no one close to him he would head in her direction to see just what it was that she wished to discuss.

Lee would bring himself to a stop just a few feet from the old gypsy woman who, if she wasn't the stereotypical old gypsy lady, he didn't know what was. Before she would even begin to speak, a notification would appear before him. It was something about feeding an enemy of some kind. The idea was interesting to say the least and in other games, he'd definitely jump at the chance to do something like this. Against his better judgement, he would raise his hand and tap the 'Accept' button to send the screen away. "My curiosity is just too great not to."

As soon as the screen disappeared, the old woman would begin to speak to him. "Greetings adventurer, you seem to be in need of companionship. If you wish for a companion, it is possible to head out into the wilderness and, if you have the aptitude for it, feeding a monster might yield great reward." The old lady would then turn and shuffle into an alleyway and out of sight. Lee would move his hands to his hips "Well....d@mn, that's mighty ominous."

Lee would look around as if to wait for someone to jump out and say something to give him more information. Though, this never came as he would move a hand to the back of his head and scratch it and finally, he would exhale and look to the exit of the town he was closest too. "Well, I guess I could go out and find something to kill or maybe do some mat gathering." He would shake his head in a minor defeat as he would head out of the town and into the outside. He would keep his guard down as the open area gave plenty of space so any sort of dangers could be seen coming from miles around. This also gave him enough room to look for any sort of materials but so far, nothing.

Lee continued to look around the fields, moving closer to the trees that were spotted across the area, they being prime spots for materials. This was something he had come to find through trial and error though it was more error than trial sadly. And, as like most times, he was coming up short-handed and with a defeated sigh, he would shake his head after looking behind a tree branch. He would move his hands to his sides and look around, maybe a monster would be a better idea but it wasn't something he was willing to try and commit fully too. Though, he began to wonder just what kind of monster would make the best pet. He had played several games where a monster could be tamed to fight along side him in battle.

Even with his favorite game he had played, the only pet he had was a rock. Simple, nothing special, just a plain ol rock that he had just for the sake of having. Having a dragon was the usual thing most people aimed for, or some sort of bird. He wasn't really judging what others got, hell, even Piera went down that route and got herself a bird cat thing. It was cute at times but that was only a few times, most of the times it was more of an annoyance. It was far to active for the kinda cat he would want, he was always one for lazy cats as they were more that way when compared to a dog. He would stop for a moment and think about that "A dog wouldn't be too bad, I wonder if one of those would be found out here." In the midst of his thought, he had completely forgot to look for any sort of materials.

"Havin a dog would actually be pretty legit though..." He would pause for a moment at the thought "...i don't even know if there are any dogs in this game. Most games have like, wolves n sh*t." He would cross his arms and take in a deep breath and exhale in a defeated manner "I don't want a wolf though, it ain't the same." He would kick the ground as a small bit of dirt would be kicked up from the solid metal boot. He opened up his menu and after shifting through the drop down boxes, his quests sat there before him and the current one being the Feeding the Enemy quest. He would stare at the quest and continued to think of just what would he want following him around. What could he actually get? He would glance around in case any sort of materials happened to be in view but once more, no luck.

The armored player would continue his search for an monster whilst also looking around for any items that wished to join his inventory. Though, he now wondered why he didn't try to go to another area, maybe find something there. The first floor was very limited when it came to monsters and thus, potential pets. He would pause. Should he be calling it a pet? Should it be considered a familiar, right? He always figured that to be more of a magical terms as it only really came up in role plays as such. He would look down to a fallen tree trunk and placed his foot against its side. With a push, the log would roll over and he would reach down and pick up a material, trowing it up in the air and catching it in his hand. "Coolness. At least it is something, let's keep this good luck train goin."

Lee would continue onward with no sign of exhaustion shown and rightfully so, he'd done little though at that very same time, he had grown bored. The armored player would look around to find nothing in terms of material or monster. This was why he hated going on outings by himself, it got too dull way to fast. He was horrid when it came to his own devices and being by himself. He'd rather have the company of others than solitude. Even when going for such simple things like this, he wished someone was there to talk to. Someone to ask questions or possibly get to know better. He would usually aim to take Piera out so they could cover more ground and get more materials. He would take in a deep breath as the argument they had still lingered. He wasn't one to fold but he also had grown so accustomed to her being around, he was addicted.

The armored player would raise a hand up to his forehead and let it run down his face in an annoyed manner. He might not have been the type to fold but he was the kinda person to hold a grudge. He knew the power of holding in something that could potentially grow into something dangerous. He always felt that karma might be a thing but that not enough people were willing to actually act on the behalf of that karma. One good turn deserves another and an eye for an eye. He hated a few people in the world but even hate was a strong word that he didn't throw around lightly. Though anything below it was seemingly free game and he was all for being petty and childish, it was something that came second nature to him, usually to the dismay of others which caused him to chuckle even as he continued to fail at finding any other materials.

This caused him to think more so on his future and just what it was in the game that he wished for. In most games, there was an end goal that, while difficult, was something that could be obtained. Or in the case of most MMO's, getting together with friends and making your own goals was also something nice. Though, SAO wasn't like that, as much as he'd like it to be and it was a little disheartening as he was fairly happy when all of this first started out or at least in comparison to the vast majority. But there was only one person that he knew of from the real world who was also in the world of Aincrad and he was at odds with her currently. Lee would kick the side of a tree with no real reason in doing so other than to vent just a bit though it wasn't enough but it also caused him to take a step back and stroke his beard.

Lee would exhale through his nose and let his head fall down and to his surprise he would take note of a material at his feet that must have come from the tree after he struck it. He would reach down and take it and place it into his inventory. At least with it being a game in terms of mechanics, things were a little bit simpler than in the real world. What one could do was easier to define and one could get better with practice rather than dumb luck. Though, luck was sure to take a part of things but like in all games, it was a minor part in the grander scheme of things. Lee would raise his shield arm up and look over the flat surface of the object in wonder. What would things be like if he took a more ruthless approach? Put all his things into of fence and never looked back or maybe became a bandit. He would look up and blink several times. "Did I really just think about being a bandit?" The idea was ludicrous though it was something he wanted to think about, just in general.

Lee would raise a hand to his chin whilst the other propped up his elbow. What was it that made people become bandits in the first place? It couldn't just be a whim to commit to that kind of life. Though, it is something that is usually in most video games, ether they are non-player characters, monsters or just players taking advantage of the system and its players. But there had to be some sort of appeal in order to commit yourself to such a degree that might lead to murder. Whilst Lee wasn't one to think about doing such a thing it was also something he wasn't against if it came down to it.

"Like, drop of a hat for the smallest personal reason." He would say aloud as if to confirm that he would. He would glance around to see if any materials would appear in his light of sight but once more, none to his avail.

The armored player would chuckle to himself as he would lean forward to look under a rock for even the slightest chance of finding himself a material but to no avail. He would simply let the rock drop a he would straighten his posture and place a fist onto his hip and the other scratching the front side of his cheek. Being by himself wasn't all that bad, it game him to to think though, that wasn't always the best thing to be left to ones own devices. That was when the stranger types of things tended to creep into ones mind and given the free forming nature of Lee's own, this was a tit-for-tat ordeal. It game him time to reflect on things that he had done and things he might do and the latter of the two could go either way. While he wasn't the strongest player, he wondered what would happen if he were to back a stronger player and then become stronger himself.

Lee would wonder what kind of future he may have if he decided to join the proverbial dark side of Sword Art Online. He would have to take into account his relationships with other players first and foremost. Who would be accepting of his new lifestyle and which individuals would he actually care about in the first place? He would have to have someone who would go into safe zones in order to get him items from shops that he wouldn't have access too unless he could find shops that wouldn't mind selling to such a character. The main thing would be problematic is the kind of person he would aim to be. Because it would seem that most red cursor players do it out of some sort of justification, with few exceptions and aim to turn themselves back to green as soon as they are able but he would aim to find a way of securing such an icon in a more permanent light.

The plate covered individual would take in a deep breath as his mental thought process was starting to take a turn for the unhealthy. All of these things were things that he needed to take a step back from these sorts of thoughts and it was somewhat of a coincidence that he did as he would look off to the side to see a boar. While normally one would relish in the thought of fighting a monster for some much needed experience, this time was a little different. Lee had turn around just in time to see the remnants of what he could only assume to be a boar or wolf fading into pixels. He assumed that some player he had not taken notice of because he was in such a thought had just got through fighting and moved on.

Now, this wasn't anything unusual until his eyes would drift off to the side to see a monster smaller than that of a normal animal huddled against a tree. The bearded man would make his way over to the tree and just a few steps from it, the animal would turn its attentions toward Lee and ready itself for what looked to be battle though, from his perspective it wasn't. The animal looked to be a boar but more on the small side, like a baby. Lee would crouch down and rest his elbow on his knee and his chin in his hand. It was cute, he'd give it that but in the end, he wondered just how much experience he'd get for going ahead and just letting his shield drop on it. It was big enough that it might not kill it but he would find it kinda funny seeing a small little pig squirming out from under it.

It then made him think of all the different video's he had seen of small piglets and it made him want to drop his shield in such a way that it would make a sort of roof for the little thing. Lee felt a smile come to his lips as the little boar would snort and squeal at him in its own intimidating way which only caused Lee to laugh. The boar would charge at him to which he would simply hold his free hand down and push the boar over onto its side, causing it to kick rapidly against the air and would, eventually, make its way up to its feet. "You are just too adorable." Lee would reach into his inventory and pull out a small box-like object <<Call of the Wild>> and once he opened the lid, a small song would begin to play as Lee would reach out with a bit of food in his other hand.

The tone of the small boar, as if instant, moved toward Lee's hand, eating the food while the song played. It's dark brown eyes shimmered and its fur was rather soft, the light brown stripes lined along its side and its underbelly was of the same color but it was solid in color and... "You're a lil girl boar." He would rub the boar behind its head and smile contently as it seemed the event title would appear before him telling him that the capturing of the familiar was complete. He would quickly dismiss the icon as he was enjoying himself far more now than actually completing the quest.

Lee would continue to pet the small boar as it seemed to enjoy the attention whilst he himself was rather happy. Piera's familiar was okay but it was also weird and it wasn't the kind he would really ever get that used too. The simplicity of the boar was something that reminded him of the world of the living and having it as a pet was kinda dream like. It was then that he thought more on if he should have actually gotten the boar as his pet of choice. It was a video game and that meant that there were more mythological creatures to pick from if he so desired. Though, he wasn't entirely sure how one would go about getting rid of a familiar aside from. "No. Nope. Nah." He might be willing to kill people for the smaller reasons but wen it came to animals that he had come attached too, that was just too heavy heartening. Lee then glanced over at the side and would stop his petting in order to reach over and take hold of a material that he had missed.

Lee continued to find the small boar to be more adorable every passing second. Just the way that it looked at him and moved, it was something criminal. He would watch as it would suddenly get a burst of energy and run off and quickly turn around and head back toward him. But right before it reached him, it would drop onto its side and after a few twitches of its legs, it would stop moving them but its breathing would continue. It looked to be asleep but as Lee was thinking about reaching out to pet it, it would begin kicking its lets to get back up to a vertical base and begin running around once again. Lee would quickly move a hand up to his mouth to contain an outburst of laughter though he would look down at where the boar had been and a material laid there to which he would reach down and pocket it into his inventory with a wide smile.

The little piglet continued to run around for a bit before coming before Lee and landing on its side to feint slumber before jolting up and bolting off again. The seemingly random energy spikes were just too enjoyable for Lee to not find adorable and enjoyable at the same time. The armored man would stand up and as he did, the boar would freeze in place as if to become invisible in the presence of the now giant. Lee would lean forward but as soon as he had moved, the boarlet would suddenly jump a few inches off the ground and begin run around in tight circles. A chuckle would escape his lips as he would finally be able to get his hands on the furry boar as it would continue to kick happily. He would let it rest on one arm as the other would keep in front of it so it wouldn't try and take a leap to the ground below. He still wanted to see if he could find any more materials before calling it quits.

Lee continued to walk through the rather open fields, the patches of tall grass here and there would catch his eye as he continued to search for any materials. The boar would continue to be very active, even whilst in his arms. It was just like that of a small piglet in its overall activity which caused him to grow attached even more. Though, with that came the work that came behind it as the small creature would continue to try and climb over his arm and he would have to stumble forward and almost fall in order to let the boar down to the ground without dropping it from the full height. The boar would run around and Lee would hope that the boar would run itself out of energy or at least enough so that he may be able to take it with him with little effort. Though, he would look down to notice a material right beneath him so he did mentally thank the creature as it was seemingly a good luck charm.

Lee would pull himself to his knees as he would look at the material before opening up his inventory and placing it in with the others he had acquired. As it disappeared, he would look at his empty armored hand. He would think just what it was that he wanted in the game, just anything in the spiritual terms but basic and simple. He wasn't too far gone in any one given direction that he could switch things up and start putting his points into something else. He would start working on putting things into an offensive ability and skills, maybe learn a few sword arts. In the midst of this thought process, the boar would run up and gallop up his knees and slam itself against his stomach, quickly recovering in an attempt to get up the chest plate. A burst of laughter would emit from his lips as he would move his hands down to take the boar in them and lift her up as its feet kicked rapidly and in such an adorable manner. "You like me the way I am, right lil girl?"
