[F7-PP] Dusty Dude <<Case of Wurms>>

Recommended Posts

"Teleport, Nimbus." With a flash of blue light, Pinball popped into existence on Floor 7's teleporter. He used his spear as a walking stick, mentally reviewing everything he was here to do. He had been told of a quest involving some kind of giant sand serpent thing, and he was supposed to kill it. He didn't quite know where he was supposed to be heading, nor did he feel like spending even more money to get the information he needed out of his broker. He stopped mid-stride, tapping his spear on the ground twice. Maybe I should ask Stryder to help me out? He probably knows what the hell I'm supposed to do. He knew the monster he was supposed to kill was located in a sandy, mountainous area. He spun around, doing a quick direction check. Pinball decided to head off towards the other mountains on the floor... even though he was technically on one already. "Jesus Christ," he grumbled, scratching his head. If he wandered around undecided like this all day, he wouldn't get anything done. What to do, what to do?

Kairi had sat down on one of the benches wearing her casual clothing on the seventh floor just relaxing reading a book satisfying her craving for knowledge. She had just been relaxing after the events that had happened lately, between her and hestia, her and macradon, her and embers, the guild, valentines day so many things and just wanted to take a few off to just read a book. A few hours have passed after reading and she had made a lot of progress on her book and she had closed it placing it into her inventory, she had stood up and stretched her arms upwards. After a moment she had noticed a man stand a few feet away from her looking a little upset about something scratching his head... Kairi had smiled and approached the man and calmly said to him leaning forward to get his attention "You need a little help? You look frustrated or upset about something." she had said with a smile.

Pinball jumped a bit, startled by the sudden voice. If his spear wasn't cursed, he would have dropped it. "The grill isn't on," he blurted out, his head whirling around to face the girl. His face went bright red, the timid teenager's brain shutting down. Did you just say 'the grill isn't on'? He shook his head. "Uhh- nothing, nOthing," he coughed, his voice cracking towards the end of his assurance. "I'm just looking for this... uhh, snake dude? It's supposed to be on this floor. I think. Yeah." One hand gripped his weapon tightly, betraying his attempts of hiding the anxiety he felt so often in social situations. His only free hand tapped his side rapidly, and the boy held himself with a stiff, straight posture. "I should - I should get going, I think. I need to take care of it quickly." Pinball inched away slowly, unsure of whether or not it was ok to leave. He had to level up. He was one of the stronger members of the guild, and that said something. As of the moment, The Guardians of the New Dawn held no frontline presence, and as a member, it was his job to change that. Well, I mean, I think that's what I'm supposed to be doing? What exactly is the whole point in being in a guild, again?

Kairi had gained a confused look at his first response to her approaching him, however seeing his immediate reaction she had seen that he had been embarrassed, Kairi couldn't blame him for a while she could relate in some way shape or form. However he had shook his head and said nothing, Kairi had let out a small giggle and said as she put her hands behind her back saying with a smile "Doesn't sound like nothing~". However he had explained that he had been looking for a snake "dude" that was supposed to be on this floor, and that he should get going, Kairi had shook her head and said out to him "No no, I know the "dude" you are talking about, its a floor boss am I correct?" Kairi had extended a hand outward and said "I'm Kairi, its a pleasure to meet you today Mister...?" she had finished trying to see if he would reply saying his name.

"It's... It's a dusty dude." Pinball measured with his hands. "A... long boy." Pinball laughed, then covering his face with a hand. Jesus Christ, you look like an idiot. Pinball shook his head, his face red and a sheepish smile on his face. "It's a boss, I think. Some kind of snake, maybe? I... I don't know." He watched as Kairi extended a hand outward, and Pinball hesitated. Instead of shaking her hand like a normal person, Pinball took the back of his palm and used it to tap the back of hers twice, before placing his arm back by his side. He stared for a moment with a blank stare, before snapping out of it. Are you stoned, kid? Stop that. Pinball looked away, thinking for a moment. Despite her appearance, Pinball got the "capable" vibe from her. He scratched his neck, thinking. "Uhmm, do you wanna... come with? And stab the thing?" If she knew about it, perhaps she had already taken the quest before, and he'd be able to get some much needed help defeating it. Pinball's damage wasn't at what it would be yet, even with his familiar. He was a pretty squishy target. His hand brushed against the jar hanging from his belt, where the glass hung. It was filled with what looked like a black mist, but Pinball knew it was just Zomekko curled up, hiding from the sun. He'd need to come out soon.

Kairi had cocked her eyebrow up a little bit wondering what in the world he had been talking about, she doesn't recall ever seeing a man like that before, however he had explained out it was a boss, maybe a snake. Kairi could tell he was either shy or just VERY antisocial, however either way she wanted him to just open up and stop being so awkward about things. Kairi had nodded her head and said to him after him asking if she had wanted to come along, Kairi had extended a hand forward for him to shake her hand saying out to him "I would love to. My name is Kairi, you can stop being extremely awkward now. I'm just a normal person, not someone to be nervous around." she had let out a chuckle. Afterwards, Karona her Mimic familiar had scuttled up behind her, then had smelled a new player in her presence, Karona had stepped in front of her and moved to sniff his foot trying to determine if he was friendly or foe.

Pinball took a deep breath. Stop being awkward, she says. Stop it! You're weirding her out. He stretched his hand, closing and reopening it. "Y-yeah, sorry." Pinball was a very anxious person, but he'd find a way to break the ice - even if that meant acting a bit... strange. He took a sudden step back, shocked by the appearance of what looked to be a Chest Mimic. He remembered his arm getting chomped on when he had gone gathering out with Hei. It was funny, looking back on it now, and Hei had obliterated it instantly, but it was still a bit of a scary experience. Not knowing whether he should ask if it was tame, pet it, or run away, Pinball just smiled awkwardly. The jar on his belt rustled, and out sprang the shadowy form of Zomekko, his ghostly familiar. Exiting the relatively small jar, the misty silhouette growing to be the size of the average housecat. The cat stared at Kairi, then at the Mimic with large, empty white eyes. It then leapt back, floating up to level with Pinball's head, where the feline apparition curled up around his shoulders. Globs of shadow dripped from the cat's paws and body, hitting the floor with splashes resembling raindrops. "Well. I ought to, uhh... Get going. To fight the thing. Wherever it is. It's been nice... meeting you?" He backed away, snapping a finger gun.

Kairi had frowned a little bit when he had stretched out his hand, closing it and reopening it, she had looked at the man which had acted very very strange. However after a moment he had said he was going out to fight the thing and it was nice meeting her, Kairi had rolled her eyes and grabbed onto his wrist and dragged him forward "Not without me you are not, I know where the boss is, and its pretty clear that you don't. So... seems like you need me a little bit today." she had looked back to Pinball and said "Could you lighten up and stop acting so strange, I am not a person thats going to harm you. Just want to have a little fun today while earning some SP while I am at it." she had let out a giggle. Eventually once everything became more calm or at least a bit more silent she had asked out to him "So... I never heard a name, everyone has a user name, care to share who you are stranger?" she had flashed a smile.

Zomekko took a lazy fall from Pinball's shoulder, then floated back into the jar, where her form condensed once more into a black mist. Her body filled the jar, and Pinball flinched when his arm was grabbed. She told him she wasn't trying to hurt him, and asking him if he could drop the strange stuff. Yeah, drop it. Pinball winced, gently pulling himself free from her grip. "Y-yeah," he nodded, rubbing his wrist. She told him she'd go with him to the monster, and people nodded several times. When asked his name, Pinball answered relatively easily. "I'm Pinball," he replied, then rubbed the back of his neck. "Probably not that cool of a username, but uhh... it's mine. What's... what's yours?" He took a look around, his eyes trying to find another player in the area, but he couldn't. That's strange, he thought. Had so many people died to the point where nobody is on this floor right now? He was proven wrong when he spotted one player walking down the street far away. He looked back to Kairi.

After a moment she had felt the man move away from her grip, Kairi had smiled, she wasn't going to try to keep a hold of him to make sure that he would follow, he was going to trust that he would stay with her for this boss fight. Eventually he had replied to her saying that his name is Pinball, saying that it probably wasn't a cool of a username. Kairi had giggled and said "I've already said my name silly! But it's Kairi, not as cool as yours I might say." she had giggled. Eventually after a bit of walking she had figured that he wouldn't really start any form of conversation, so Kairi was going to start one of her own to him: "So... Pinball, tell me a little bit more about yourself. What did you do out in the real world? Still in school? Made some big bank? Lived in fancy mansions? Lived shooting people and stealing their money?" she had giggled at her own joke towards the end.

He blushed again, his shoulders going stiff. He had already forgotten she had told him her name. "Y-yeah, right, right." Pinball stepped away, leaning against his spear. "What did I do?" He thought back to his time in the real world. Leading up to SAO, all he had really done was sit alone in his room and read or play games, a rather uninteresting life. He had never had much of a social life, and going outside to play sports seemed like a pain. "Yeah, I shot people for money," he said as seriously as he could. "School is for nerds, anyways." He checked the time on his HUD, wondering if they were going to set out soon. What's the rush? He shrugged. "What about you? What did..." he looked her up and down, his face red, and coughed, "what have you done? Like. What did you do. Before SAO." She wasn't wearing any armor, and was dressed rather plainly. He wondered what her level was, and if she'd be able to handle whatever monster they had to face. Pinball didn't bother with taking his equipment off much, and he had never been one to care about how he looked. He decided to ask the stupid question."You.. you have armor and stuff, yeah? I hear that the monster is fairly tough.
