[SP-F1] <<The Second Lesson, Is Also Free>> (Zuel)

Recommended Posts

Zuel would enter the Blacksmiths Lyle Tealeaf's shop, the bell would ring alerting the NPC that someone had come in. Lyle would give Zuel a smile before greeting him. "Ah Zuel it is good to see you again. Are you prepared to accompany me on that task I mentioned before?" Zuel would respond with a nod. He had been carefully planning and preparing himself for combat and now he would partake in the quest that would teach him the basics with little risk to himself.  "Excellent! Allow me to explain the details of the quest." Lyle would place his hammer down wiping his hands on a nearby cloth. "Because of the influx of all these new adventures my shops supplies are running very low and I need more materials in order to create more weapons and armor. I want you to acquire Boar Pup Tusk for me in the fields south of town . These tusk are very rare and valuable and should help me craft what I need for now." Would think about his proposal for a moment. "Understood. I shall acquire the tusks for you." Lyle's face would light up at Zuel's response. "I appreciate the help. If you succeed I promise to reward you handsomely." With his task at hand Zuel would leave the Blacksmiths and travel to the south gate of the town of beginnings.

After reaching the south gate Zuel would pull out his map that had been updating with the new quest information he had accepted. On the map he could see the area where the Boar Pups would spawn and began to head that way. It would take him a couple minutes for Zuel to travel to the wild plans area. Finally reaching his destination Zuel could see a field full of Boar Pups that were being taken down by other players and re spawning at the same rate. Zuel would head a bit deeper into the field not wanting to be distracted by other players while he attempted to fight. The boars where not hostile and would attack after being attacked. After wandering for a bit Zuel had found a good spot to start his grind in obtaining the Tusks. After checking his inventory and his equipment Zuel was finally ready to learn about the combat system in SAO. He would draw his blade getting into a custom stance as he was focused his attention to a nearby boar pup ready to attack.

Zuel readied his one handed sword and charged at boar pup. His combat movements seemed fluent and skillful for someone who had just started playing this game. As he charged the boar pup entered combat with Zuel charging at him as well. As He approached he pulled his blade back before swinging its forward as he attacked the boar. Zuel's sword would slash through the side of the boar pup's side for a successful hit. However on the way through the tusk of the boar would also scratch at Zuel's arm. The boar would let out a squeal as it fell to the ground and quickly recovered facing his attention toward him. Zuel would stop as he cut through turning himself to face the boar again looking toward his arm. "I can feel the pain from the attack." He would slash his sword and then ready his stance again. Although his attack was successful, attacking an enemy appears to also leave the attack open for an attack as well if they are not careful. Zuel could tell the boar was ready to attack him first now so he readied his sword once again for another attack.

The boar would suddenly charge again. It seemed to be enraged acting way more aggressive than before Zuel would swing his sword at the boar with a vertical slash. "Could it be enraged because his health is low?" The boar charged at a high speed that once Zuel would swing his sword it would jump to the side cause his attack to miss as it would head butt into his side. Zuel would jump back re positioning himself to the boar. "Interesting. its speed increased as well." Although this was a weak enemy it seemed to give Zuel insight on how monsters can react once their health has been lowered. He decided it would probably be best if he was a bit more selective with his attacks. It was funny, even though he was stuck inside the game Zuel couldn't help but get a bit excited when he was in combat like this, against an opponent that could actually kill him. It made this feel like a lot more than just a game.

The boar mimicked its previous attack patterned. Because it was enraged it relentless charged at Zuel again. However Zuel was prepared now and had the perfect counter for his attack. Zuel would dash to the side at the last second as the boar would approach him leaving the boar wide open for an attack. Zuel would quickly take this opportunity to swing his one handed sword to the back of the boar as it ran through. Zuel's attack would leave a digital slash on the back of the boar pup before it fell to the ground and almost shattered into to white light, fading away after a few seconds. Zuel had manage to defeat his first enemy in SAO. As he did a loot box would appear in front of him awarding him a Boar Pup Tusk. Would take the tusk into his inventory and turn his attention to another boar in the field. The other boars didn't seem to attack him unless he attacked first. Since this was the starting zone I am sure this is done on purpose so not to have to fight so many enemies at once while low level.

After have defeated his first enemy Zuel now had a better grasp of how the combat system worked. With another Boar Pup in sight, Zuel prepared himself for a first strike against the enemy. He would draw back his sword as he charged at the enemy ready to lunge at the boar. Just as he did the boar would enter combat with Zuel charging at him as well, the boar's tusk was faced forward. As Zuel when for a stab at the boar it would quickly leap into the air dodging his attack and lunged at him from above. Zuel would respond as he quickly ducked, dodging the boars attack as well. "Interesting, it seems that a stabbing attack aren't as effective as a horizontal or vertical attacks." Zuel would bring up his guard as the boar focused his attention on him once again ready to charge.

Zuel was taking this battle as a chance to learn which attacks were effective against the boar. The boar would once again charge at at Zuel at full speed attempting to use its tusk to attack. Waiting for the last second Zuel would dodge the boar's attack swing his sword to catch the back of the boar as it ran through. Unfortunately Zuel's attack was not quick enough to hit the charging boar. Although Zuel's attack were not hitting his target he was getting valuable information about how to approach attacking the boar. The boar would try to stop itself after missing his attack, the dust picking up from where it stopped. Turning back to Zuel the boar was ready to attack again, while Zuel once again prepared his blade in an offensive stance. It seemed Zuel was going to change tactics and become a bit more aggressive to defeat the boar pup. Zuel was very adaptive when it came to combat, usually switching tactics if one of his original plans seem to not have the effect he had hoped for.

Zuel taking the initiative would be the first to charge this time as the boar responded by doing the same. Zuel would once again move to the side at the last second, swinging his blade into the side of the boar slashing through as he continued to advance forward. The boar would scream out in pain as his attack would land, forcing it to the ground as it quickly regain its footing. Like the last time the boar pup became enraged at its health being low. Beginning to run around franticly the boar would once again get ready to charge as its eyes became red. Zuel smirk a bit as his attack landed leaving its back to the beast looking over his shoulder. His damage was set based of his gear as well as his skills. However most of his points had been put into increasing his sword weapon skill so he didn't have any sword art skills yet so he had to finish his enemies with just basic attacks.

The boar angrily charged again at Zuel moving side to side to make it hard to read the boar's attack. However Zuel was following its movements perfectly able to dodge the boar by leaping into the air. As the boar ran through he would lunge down attempting to drive his blade through the boars head. The boar now with increased speed leaps out of the way at the last second as Zuel's sword would go into the ground forcing some smoke to rise from where he landed. Zuel would get back to his feet and face the boar again, impressed with how much agility the boar has obtained from becoming enraged. "It appears that an arial attack are not quite as effect as well." Zuel was fine with testing out different styles of combat until he was satisfied with his combat abilities. Zuel really felt that he was adapting quickly to this world and it was a good thing too because if he wanted to survive and level quickly he was going to have to.

It was time to finish the boar off. Having to still complete the quest he didn't want to waste any more time. Zuel got into his stance as the boar began to charge at him at full force. Zuel patiently waited as the boar to get close enough before swinging his sword skillfully cutting the boar in half. The boar would begin to glow as it shattered into light leaving an item to appear in front of Zuel. It was another Boar Pup Tusk. Zuel would accept the loot as he added another one into his inventory. Zuel sword skill was slowly improving with each battle he fights. Zuel was obtaining valuable knowledge of how the combat works as well as the boar enemies attack patterns. Zuel thought it would be a good idea to take a quick break and allow some of his health to store before attempting to obtain the last tusk.

Now confident in his combat knowledge Zuel set his focus to another boar pup isolated in the field. Slowly approached, sword in hand as he prepared to attack. The boar noticed him as he came up to him and quickly engaged him by charging to attack. Zuel would glare at the boar as he continued to to slowly walk, his piercing stare would frighten the boar as Zuel would go for an intense swing. At the last second the boar would run away from him, afraid of Zuel's presence causing both of their attacks to me. "So even an npc enemy can feel fear?" Zuel would smirk as he continue to slowly walk toward the boar as it would holds its ground as he approached. It seems that in SAO there was a hidden program that the PC had some effect on the enemies regardless of player stats. There was a lot more to this game than just in the manual and the more Zuel continued searching for answers the more questions he had.

Wanting to test his theory Zuel would slowly approach the enemy again. Like before the boar would react to his movements and begin to feel threatened, charging at Zuel. He would once again give the boar a piecing gaze making Zuel seem much more threatening as he went to swing his sword at the boar. The boar would quickly jump out of the way causing their attacks to miss once again. Zuel would confirm his theory that depending on how threatening a player can seem to the enemy may have them react in different ways. Zuel would watch the boar actions carefully trying to determine his next move. This method of combat was not going to achieve him victory but was a useful defense when fighter a weaker enemy. Zuel would get into his stance ready to attack once again. It was clear that the system of this game was much more unique than any other game he had played before. However this was no longer a game anymore and was something much more.

Zuel was getting tired of the boar running away from him so he decided it was time to go on the offensive even it cost him some health points to deal some damage. Zuel charged at the boar swinging his blade as he came up to the boar. The boar engaged Zuel as well charging as full speed trying to swipe Zuel with his tusk. As they passed both attack were successful. Zuel leaving a gash in the side of the boar as the boar barely managed to scratch Zuel causing him to lost some of his health. The boar dropping to low health instantly enraged the boar cause it to jump around wildly. Zuel kept his cool moving around the boar cautiously as he planned for his next attack. He just needed to land another hit and he would be able to finish it off. The boar sets its focus to Zuel once again ready to attack. It seemed there was some correlation to risk vs reward factor. Making most risky attack will often land you hits but it may also leave you open for an attack as well if it is successful or not. Zuel began calculating all this new information quickly as he planned his next move.

Wasting no time at all Zuel readied his blade and made his move. It was time to finish off the boar in one final attack. In an instance he dashed toward the boar his sword trailing behind as he went in for the final attack. The boar reacted to his movements hesitating for a second before charging at Zuel letting out a huge squeal in anger. Its aggressive movements made it difficult to follow but Zuel's keen eyes were able to follow regardless. As the boar got into range Zuel would quickly side step the boar, taking his sword slashing through with such power that Zuel was sure he had landed a critical hit. As he slashed through the boar had been cut in half as the body would split before shattering into light and disappearing. After defeating the boar a confirmation message would showing him a victory screen. Once again the boar tusk would be included in the loot making that the last one he needed. Now to turn in the quest and receive the next part of the quest.

Now having completed the mission Zuel began to head back to the town of the beginnings to hand the boar tusks to Lyle. After returning to the town of beginnings Zuel would head back to Lyle's blacksmithing shop. He would enter looking around seeing Lyle crafting on his anvil. Lyle would look to Zuel. "Oh ho! you are back quick. Most other take quite a bit of time to take down that many boars. You must really be a natural!" Zuel would hand over the boar tusks over to Lyle as he smiled, taking them happily completing the quest. "Ah these are perfect, I should be able to make very effective weapons with these." Zuel would nod awaiting his next assignment from Lyle. "Right now if you can deliver a package to a young artisan named Hannah who can be found in a grove of trees in the city I would really appreciate it!." After saying that line Zuel's quest log would become updated  receiving the rewards and next part of the quest would continue. Zuel would bring up his map to see the location of the NPC Hannah. It was in the grove area of the city where he had never been before. Zuel would begin to make his way to the area on the map keeping an eye out for trees that indicated that he was getting closer to the grove. While walking he noticed a church where a large sum of younger players had gathered. There he saw other players taking in the kids using the church as a shelter to protect the children that were too frightened to go out into the dangerous parts of Aincrad. Although he recognized the noble cause those players were taking up Zuel could never really see himself just sitting by idly taking care of children as other player risked their lives in order to beat the game and free everyone. After some time of wandering around he finally found the path that would lead him to Hannah. He would walk down a path of trees as the sun would shine through the leaves to illuminate the path ahead. It was amazing how realistic it was and felt as it really felt like the real world. As he found his way to the center of the grove he saw a girl sitting with her back against a tree painting a picture. Zuel would approach her seeing that the NPC was indeed the one he had been looking for.

Zuel would lean over her shoulder and take a look at her painting without her noticing it. It seemed that she was enamored in her painting that she didn't even notice him standing there. Hannah was drawing a picture of a golden dragon and Zuel wondered if it was a hint that something like that existed somewhere in SAO. Hannah would look over her shoulder finally noticing Zuel standing there and jump at the sight of him, hiding her painting behind her back and blushing a bit. "Wh..where did you come from?" She would look away and then look back to him. "Di..Did you see?" Zuel would nod to her. "I did." Hannah would cover her face every so often peeking to look at him. "Wh..what did you think?" Zuel would give her a light smile. "I think it was very beautiful. Did you come up with it on your own?" Hannah would become a bit more comfortable at his compliment smiling bright and shake her head. "Not really. Before all the adventures arrived I saw a giant golden dragon flying up to the clouds as it disappear as it got higher. It was very beautiful." Zuel looked at her inquisitively thinking it was strange to have a scripted event happen before the launch had even happened, or was it intended at all. Before he could ponder on it more Hannah approached him. "So you really liked my painting?" Zuel would smile at her again and nod. "You are very skilled. I am sure it would even rival the real thing if it were here." Hannah would blush again before looking back to him with a smile. "Thank you!"

Hannah would tilt her head looking at the package that Zuel was carrying. He noticed her looking at the package and pulled the gold band out of the bag. Hannah lit up with excitement quickly getting closer to Zuel to inspect the band. "Yes! This is one of the materials I needed!" Zuel would look at her curiously as she got closer to him. "Oh? I am guessing you are missing the other Materials then?" Hannah would realize how close she was and jump back blushing playing with her fingers. "Ah...yes. I can forge a powerful ring with the right Materials." She would jump smiling at him. "How about I make you a deal?! If you bring me the rest of the materials I will make you a ring of your choice." Zuel would raise a brow a looking at his equipment. He would think if he was going to gain more raw power then he was going to need equipment to match his combat skills. In most mmorpgs the best way to gain power quickly is to gain stronger and stronger gear. "Interesting, I will accept your offer then." Hannah would smile at Zuel. "Great!"

Hannah would look away and then back at Zuel. "Um... before I give you the quest to gain the materials I was wondering if you could do me a favor." Zuel would look at her inquisitively. The more I learn about npc the more they seem to have a mind of their own in this game. I doubt this is another trigger for a quest but, I wonder if other players in the game prompt this dialog as well. "A favor?" Hannah would nod. "Y..yes. Actually...um.. it is a bit embarrassing but I was wondering if it was possible for me to paint you?" Her face would become a bit red as he eyes would dart around looking away and then back at Zuel as she waited for an answer. He would think to himself, was this part of the quest? Not sure would to do Zuel would sit down across from her and look at her. "Is this alright then?" Hannah would smile from cheek from cheek and nod. "Yes!"

After Zuel would sit down Hannah would quickly gather her things as she began to paint. Zuel would sit there patiently as she painted looking up at him ever so often to remember his details. Some time would pass as she would stretch and look to Zuel. "Lets take a quick break shall we?" Although eating in this world didn't actually sustain you in real light just the act in itself can satisfy hunger as you can use the games flavor engine to taste all different kinds of this just as if you were in the real world. Hannah would pull out a basket with freshly made bread and hand it to Zuel. "I know this isn't much compared to the ring but please accept it as my thanks for letting me paint you." Zuel would take the basket and manage a smile from the gesture thinking this is probably all that would come from allowing her to draw him. "Thank you." After eating the bread Hannah would return to painting. It was actually the best thing he had eaten in this game so it was a bit worth the extra time to regain his strength. After some more time passes Hannah would sigh in relief and smile at Zuel. "Its done!" She would hastily rush over to Zuel to show him the picture. It was a perfect representation of how he looked in this game world.  "Its perfect. Thank you Hannah." It was funny, for a second he forgot he was talking to a NPC. It was amazing how much personality was programmed into a single NPC. "Then I want you to have it! Please take it!"  She would hand it over to Zuel as he would smile and put it into his inventory. "I will accept it thank you." Hannah would blushing smiling wide again. "I am sure you would like the quest details now where the Materials are right? Alright I will tell you!"
