[PP-F9] Fire and Ice <<Burning Phoenix Feathers>>

Recommended Posts

And in a flash of blue light, Pinball materialized on the ash covered 9th Floor, spear in hand. He paused, waiting half a moment for the swirling blue bits of data to completely finish reforming his avatar. It was early; well before dawn, really, but Pinball had always been a morning person, and as of late he's found that it's difficult to sleep. It's been what felt like months since he dropped off the face of the earth, and to make his return in such a normal way felt wrong. Still, he was of a mind to get this done. He had only found out about this quest quite recently, and had immediately been taken by the idea. He had grown attached to his armor. It was the first and only set that he had ever had, and it would most likely be the only set that he ever needed. Hei had crafted the set for him upon his joining of the Emerald Harbingers, so long ago, well before its disbandment and the creation of the Guardians of the New Dawn. So when he found out that an item existed that held the power to completely alter a weapon or piece of armor's name and appearance, Pinball knew it was something he was going to have to do.

He walked down the soot-covered streets of Yōgan Village with purpose, his steady strides matching his rhythmic breathing. He was wearing a plain, short-sleeved black shirt with his leather armor over it, along with his usual black pants, and god was it hot. Pinball fidgeted with the suffocating leather pads that seemed to amplify the Floor's heat. If an avatar could sweat, he would be drenched in it. He shook it off, though. Heat wasn't new to him, and he wasn't going to let it dissuade him from his goal. He glanced over at his spear. For a unique weapon, it was plain as well: a simple, leather covered grip across a wooden shaft, and a plain steel spearhead with a blue tint. If it weren't for the cold aura the assault spear seemed to radiate, there would be nothing to tell it apart from regular weapons.
This one is next, he told himself. It took a few more minutes to find the local blacksmith in Yōgan who gave out the quest, and Pinball was pleased to find he was the first to arrive. And that means I'll  be the first to go home. Thank God. The blacksmith tells him of the materials he needs to gather, and that the special material - the one to tie the whole forging together - was a drop from one of the phoenixs that lived on Mt. Stylahm. Pinball accepted the quest, and started making his way to the edge of the village's safezone.

Hazado was exploring out on floor nine, It was so darn hot here, and that was not helping the fact that he was wearing heavy armor. His armor had a Japanese like style to it as it was both green and black, he only had one shoulder pat as it was on his left side, It was kind of spikey as the thorns came out of it. It was for sure hot in this armor but no matter Hazado wanted to seek out what this floor had to offer. It was here he found out about some quest that could get you to change some things and not only that, there was many more thing on this floor. Hazado took a look at his spear on his back, It was not the best weapon he could have right now but still, the long spear spearhead with markings of a Rhino on it as the spearhead curved a bit up. Rhino's Horn as he was used to calling it now was a good weapon but not the best maybe one day he would get a better weapon and just see if he could name it almost the same.

As he then started walking he saw someone come out of a blacksmith, Did he knew this guy, maybe but he was not for sure. Hazado was a bit curious where he went to and Hazado followed him. Then almost at the edge of the safe zone, Hazado's mind gave a spark and he knew why the guy looked so familiar to him. Hazado was kind of in a danger here as he was a bit too risky around these parts but he wanted to adventure with someone and that someone was now this guy that he somehow knew from before. Hazado let's out a sigh and gathers his guts and walks up the guy tapping him on the shoulder, "Hello there, Mind if I ask you something, Do I know you from somewhere, You look so familiar to me?" Haz Asks the male player.

As he walked, Pinball began to let himself daydream. He'd only ever done one other quest on this floor, if he recalled correctly. He had wiped out a group of bandits with Stryder, way back when Stryder was still more powerful than him. He stifled a sigh. Times have changed, haven't they? Pinball had just about exited the boundaries of the town's Safe Zone when he felt a tap on his back. Pinball glanced over his shoulder, his eyebrows furrowed in a confused look. "Mmmm?" Pinball turned a bit to face the man. It took him a moment to recognize him, but when he did, he snapped his fingers. "Oh!" There was a brief stroke of surprise that came with recognition, but his face soon returned to a more relaxed, almost sad expression. What was his name again? "Yeah, I think I saw you on the beach." He gripped his spear tightly, planting it firm in the dirt beside him, his hand never leaving the weapon. "With Spangie, and.... the others. I think." He ran a hair through his hair, closing his eyes, a sigh escaping his lips. "Right. Uhh, what's up, man? Need something?

Hazado was a bit surprised that the guy did recognize him and when he mentions the beach Haz things a bit and he also remembers it. "Yeah, The Beach... Um, With Arabelle and Tsu Right," He says, Whatever happened To Spangie is unknown to me, where could she be, He thinks right after the fact that the guy mentions Spangie. As he then is being asked what he wanted, but the truth be told he did not really know what he wanted only that he did not want to explore this floor alone. "Sorry if... Um, this is out of nowhere, but ... well yeah would it be a problem if I could tag along with you, I kind of don't know my way around here yet," He says having a bit of an awkward tone in the voice at this point, Hazado did not really know the guy well, he only knew his face and where he knew him from, for more or less Hazado was just a bit distanced with people and on his nerves quite a lot.

Considering his absence, there was a part of Pinball that wanted the company. He had been alone for a very long time, and he had grown to miss, to a certain extent, talking to people. But on the other hand, socialibility was never his strong suit. He had always been rather shy around people, and while he didn't feel at the moment the same crippling nervousness he had used to, he was sure that isolation had done nothing to hone his social skills. Pinball frowned, thinking. He seemed genuine. Pinball didn't want to turn him down, and even though he questioned himself, he nodded... then, after a few more silent seconds, he spoke. "Ehh, fine. Sure. If you want to." He glanced back over to his shoulder. "I'm going gathering for a quest. You can come along and learn the areas for when you come back on your own." Pinball turned around, and started walking, gesturing with his hand for Hazado to follow. "C'mon... and stay where I can see you. Don't want you falling into a pit of lava or something.

As Pinball said yes to his company Hazado was a bit surprised that he did agree with it, Never thought he would say yes from what I heard from Tsu, Hazado Thought. Pinball was maybe around a head smaller then Hazado himself but, He showed more courage than him. This floor was dangerous so it was no surprise that he said to keep in eyesight.  following Pinball behind Hazado thinks about how this is not really a thing that he would do this floor was complete the opposite from where he usually is. alone side that it was stinking hot in his heavy armor and every movement felt like he was cooking, "Jeez Darn it, It is Darn hot," Hazado Said in a British accent, Maybe it was not the best idea to wear metal armor to a lave based floor.  "what Kind of quest are you ... Um, doing, If I may ask, I have done ... Like nothing on this floor," Hazado asks just wanting to know if there was something he could do as well. Who knows maybe Pinball lets him in on the quest and helps him clear it and maybe he gets a good reward out of it as well from completing this quest.

As the two walked the ashen terrain, Pinball listened to what Hazado had to say quietly. After so long being a hermit, it felt strange to have somebody talking to him again. He didn't know what to say, and so he didn't say anything. There was a steady fall of ash that fell from the sky like snowfall. The smothering heat of the floor only got worse the deeper they travelled into the floor. The cloak he had donned this morning only made the heat worse, but he knew it was necessary when he was looking for materials. When asked what kind of question he was doing, Pinball replied simply, "A gathering quest. I need five materials and then a pheonix feather. Blacksmith is going to make me a Nametag." Pinball shrugged. "I'm taking the Nametag, but I'm fine if you want to join the fight for the experience." Pinball stopped midstride, crouched, and quickly plucked the chunk of obsidian that had caught his eye off of the ground. Sliding the rock into a pouch that hung on his belt, he glanced over to Hazado, "Or don't. Your choice. You might get hurt." Pinball stood, the glass jar that hung from his waist rattling slightly. The jar was filled with an inky black substance, and every so often, it shook violently. "Either way. Wanna help me find my stuff?" He pulled out the rock he had pocketed earlier. "Stuff like this. Obsidian. There's lots of it around here.

Hazado looked at the stone Pinball was holding up, It was a black. Haz did not have his luck cut out for him when it came down to gathering items, Sure this game was about numbers most of the time and Hazado did not have high numbers on getting items. "Trust me... Um, I never seem to get any luck with getting Items, So um... I will just help fight," He said a bit nervous. Never was it the idea for him to find items in the hot lands of this floor. He follows Pinball and is a quite for a bit he is not really a talker and it seems Like Pinball was also not really a talker. Maybe it was good to start talking about something before both got bored, "Um... Pin... Have you heard about the others... I mean Spangie ... and Arabelle ... and um, Tsu," he said sounding a bit unconvertible, He was not used to talking to people he did not really know, and apart from his friend being mostly girls was not making his conversations with people not any better.

"Are... are you sure you don't want to- ah, nevermind." Pinball took a squat, sliding the obsidian back in his pouch, frowning. It'd get done so much faster though. Pinball rummaged through the dirt and rocks, looking for the same basic material he had pocketed earlier. "Yeah, no, that's fine. Your choice. Just, uh, chill out, I guess?" He ran his hands along the dirt once more, but unfortunately, even with his cloak, found nothing. "Hmph." Pinball slapped up a cloud of dirt and ash, stood, and wiped his hands on his pants. He paused when @Hazado mentioned Spangie, Arabelle, and Tsu, staring off into space. "Uhh, no," he answered truthfully. "I've been... gone. For a bit.
"Well," he said, pulling the hood of his cloak down, "let's keep going. We're heading to-" he stopped, pointed, "that mountain." He bit his lip, taking two steps back, his hands shoved deep in his pockets and his shoulders brought up to his neck. "Are- are you sure you want to go there with me?

He looked at the mountain Pinball pointed at, Sure it was a mountain nothing special about it but still Pin sounded careful, "Don't worry... I um, I can handle it, I'm a tank of course," he said not sure if he wanted to be the tank at his point as the warmth of this floor did low him down even more so than on floor five. But for his own sake and Pin's he kept going holding his spirit high as he always has been doing. Sure thing got hard here but that was the game better here then being dead. "I'm better here then somewhere else, Never give a bird wings if you don't want it to fly away," Haz said sounding a bit more confidence in his voice. Maybe it was just because he was thinking positive most of the time and not only that at this point his moral would already be dropping down hard but he kept his head high and followed Pin.

"You're... a tank. Yeah, no, right, got it." Pinball furrowed his eyebrows as he walked, pretty sure that he wouldn't be able to let the guy tank anything. Not on this floor, and certainly not around him. Stronger players tended to attract stronger monsters, and Pinball certainly wasn't a weakling by any means. He rubbed his arm. At least, not in this world. Every so often Pinball would scrape his boot across the ash and dirt, half-heartedly searching for the rocks he would need. The search wasn't going his way so far. He glanced over his shoulder at Hazado, who had been following relatively close behind. Compared to Hazado's voice, Pinball's was unemotional despite sounding like he was constantly choked up. "Well, if you say so? Just, uh... know you can leave whenever. I'm not... not keeping you here." He stopped as the slick black sheen of a loose chunk of obsidian caught his eye. Pinball crouched and palmed the stone. He tossed it into the air, catching it on its way down before sliding it into the pouch. "Feel free to, uh. Pass these over whenever you see one.

He looks up at Pinball, Leaving why would he, It was his own Idea to ask if he could come, "Sorry Pin, But I won't leave, It was my own idea to come with you so I won't go back on my things," Haz said before moving behind Pin again and following him. This floor was interesting somehow it was burning hot here and but still even with armor is was kind of okay to deal with. Haz did not really feel like looking as he always ended up on the short side of the stick, and ending in finding nothing, It was just like real life but seems like his luck has carried into the game as well. "If I try to look around Trust me, I won't find anything, I'm somehow completely blind to those type of things," Haz says as he kicks the ashes a bit. It was really the only interest to see what this floor was like, and helping Pin could be okay but in getting items it would not work.

And so he kept walking, rubbing at the now dirty sides of his already tattered cloak. Lava was everywhere on this floor. Lava, rock, and ash. The molten rock dripped from mountains and cliff faces, and slowly ran in darkened rivers and puddles. So far he hadn't spotted any monsters. This close to the safezone, though, Pinball figured that they wouldn't be particularly dangerous to fight, even for Hazado. "H-hey, maybe try to see if you can find something weak to fight? Pick up some extra loot on the side while I look for the rocks. It'll get boring just standing around." And with that, he walked over to a dead tree, and began searching through, around, and between the gnarled roots. Pulling the hood low over his face, Pinball's fingers trailed over root and dirt, but he ultimately found nothing. I'll keep looking here for a bit. I have a feeling...

Hazado Looked up at Pin Maybe he was right in fighting something weaker just to get in some extra loot on the side, Hazado Nodded to Pin "I won't take long, I make I can see you still," and with that Haz walked a bit away from Pin and started looking for a monster to fight. It exactly took not long for Haz to find a monster to fight as a found himself facing a Fire elemental, It did not look happy however as Hazado met eye to eye with it, But it did not stop Haz from attacking the beast.

Hazado took a stance and looked for a spot where the Fire elemental was most likely weak, He then charged his sword art as a green aura covers his spearhead and he charges it into the fire elemental before lifting it off the ground and slamming it to the ground again. "Ha... Ha... Got you," he said with a grin on his face before he saw it the fire elemental busts out a flame from his body as Haz jumps back from the attack, "Ooh darn that is hot," he says as he gets ready for his next move.

Pinball watched Hazado go, anxiety written all over his face. Was this really smart? Especially since Pinball seemed to have a tendency of attracting stronger monsters on lower-leveled floors like this. "Just- just shout if you need me!" Pinball watched him until he was out of eyesight, and then decided to busy himself with his own searching. I still think this would go by a lot faster if I had somebody's help, he complained to himself. He took a deep breath, exhaled, and put his hands on his hips. "Alright..." Scanning the ground, Pinball tried to notice anything suspicious or out of the ordinary. He noticed a tiny black rock at the base of the tree, and when he walked over to it, plucking it from the dirt, it was a pleasant surprise to find that it was exactly what he was looking for. That makes three. How many more to go? He checked his belt pouch. One, two, three... two more. "Nice."

He looked back at Pin as he said to just call when Haz needed help, Help, I need no help against this thing, he thought before getting his attack ready and charging into the monster again. It looked all like going to plan but then the monster dashed out of the way of his sword skill and Hazado almost fell to the ground regaining his balance just before hitting the ground. He turned back to see that the Fire elemental charged to him, "Nope, Too hot for my liking," he said in English with a British accent. As he then moved out of the way from the Fire elemental. He could feel the warmth coming off the Elemental as he swings a miss. He puts his spear into the ground to make a quick turn to the Fire Elemental and looks back at Pin's location giving him a thumbs up just to make clear that nothing was happening.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good lord, the heat was getting to him. He couldn't have heat stroke in-game, could he? Pinball slapped his cheek, trying to keep himself focused. It didn't have a negative effect on his health, but the constant abrasiveness of it was enough to make him uncomfortable. It was suffocating. He gave one last sweeping glance across his immediate area. He was, admittedly, a bit worried about Hazado. He hoped that he hadn't gotten himself into too much trouble. It'd be a hassle to pull the guy out of lava without having him die in his hands. He busied himself with his search again, brushing aside the sudden morbid thoughts. Finding nothing, he sighed. Still, he couldn't complain too much. He had been making a good amount of progress. Curious, he called out to where he had seen Hazado wander off to. "You alright?" He took a few steps backward, trying to see the guy's figure past all the trees and ash.

Hazado Moved in but turned to see Pin and hearing him ask if he was alright, "I'll be fine!" he yelled at him not wanting the get the player here while he was fighting this thing on his own. Haz did not like when people he barely knew worried about him, what was it that people made them do that, Haz turned back to the Elemental and got a grin on his face and charged at the elemental lifting it of the ground before smalling it down behind him, But before Haz knew it he feels something hot in his back. As he turned around to see that the elemental went for a counter attack right away Hazado got a bigger grin on his face and turned his left arm to the Elemental as it his the spikes on his left arm, "Got you there monster," he said as the Elemental moved back because of the spike Haz had on his arm, however Haz did feel the damage it did as it was quite burning him now
