[F09 - SP] Time to fight fire with ice cream... wait... <<Guardian of Fire>>

Recommended Posts

Neo was up in Vulcan Village, hoping to find herself another quest to take on. Though there were others, she was unsure if she could take them on on her own. Too many of the beasts seemed to be too focused on defense. This beast sounded like it was mostly offense oriented. She didn't know if it was going to be a bit too strong for her, but she made sure to have a teleport crystal in her quick access inventory just in case. The place where it resided was also said to be incredibly hot, so Neo made sure she wasn't wearing to many over-clothes. She keep herself to a minimum, with just a tank top and some pants. She kept her parasol over her shoulder as well, rapier sheathed within it. Hopefully she could at least enjoy herself while on this floor. It was a little bit more bearable than floor 5, though not by much.

Once Neo had received the quest and knew the location she needed to head towards. It was going to be a long journey, but it shouldn't be too dangerous of one. The real problem would be when she got to the place itself. Inferno Cavern, the name sent shivers down her spine. It was going to be packed with heat, probably an environmental effect if there was going to be one. There was of course other reasons it was named that, but extreme heat made the most sense. The creature in question that she had to kill was a three headed dog. It sounded frightening, but it just meant she needed to keep an eye out on each side so as to not get outmaneuvered. She began her journey and continued on for a full day. It took her about halfway, but she was able to see on her map that progress was being made. The floor was actually rather tame for being so hot. She guessed the heat had driven most of the mobs away as well as the players.

Neo's journey continued, and there was little of note as she made her way towards the Inferno Cavern. It was hard to determine just how close she was, as the map was poorly written, but she could tell that she was moving in the right direction. Roman was still flying around her, but she called him down as the day came to a close. She ended up just outside of the cavern before night fell, and could feel the heat coming off of it. As it was late, Neo decided the best course of action was to sleep here and make sure that she was at full energy and health. She doubted that there would be any PKers out and about on this floor, and the few monsters that there were would not be able to take her out before Roman woke her up. At least, that's what she hoped.

The morning came, and Neo made her way into the cave. It was definitely hot, so hot she was afraid she would start to take some damage. Thankfully, there was some help from her natural healing and was able to avoid taking too much damage for it. Shortly after venturing in, she came across a hell hound. Not waiting for an opening, she quickly charged in with a weaker attack in hopes of sparing her energy. Though her energy didn't take much of a dent, she was unfortunately not expecting the amount of speed the hound attacked her with. It didn't hit hard, barely a scratch in her health bar. That wasn't to say it couldn't stall her out long enough that the environment would eventually take her out. She needed to kill the beast and move on quickly. There would likely be more before she encountered the field boss, and therefore would end up taking a fair amount of damage from the cave itself.

Neo waited until the Hell hound was charging at her once more. As it did, she quickly sidestepped it and aimed a few thrusts at its side. It didn't last long, shattering and letting her pass deeper into the cave. The heat from the cave was slowly beginning to drain her, and a wave of even hotter temperature washed over her as she made her way deeper. Her health bar was beginning to drop more now, but still not going down that fast. Hopefully there would be a chance for her to recover once this was all over. She had no idea if she was going to be able to take things on if the room effect kept whittling her down. Roman came and wrapped himself around her neck, letting his cold try to balance out the heat as best as he could. It wasn't doing much, but it still helped.

Making her way deeper into the cave and watching her health slowly drain, Neo saw that there was another hell hound blocking her way. It yipped at her and Roman uncoiled from her neck. Approaching a bit more slowly this time, Neo watched as it charged at her. She was expecting it to jump up towards her face like the last one, but this hell hound had a different idea. It instead chose to dive at her ankles, biting them hard. The sense of pain didn't last long, but what there was was extremely sharp. She was grateful this was all just a simulation, otherwise she probably would've just lost a foot. Not waiting for it to release, she kicked it against a wall and backed up. She was going to need to be a bit more creative if she wanted to claim victory in this fight. It was no likely any thougher, but she needed to get in and out of the place as quickly as possible.

The Hell hound charged at Neo, bringing a wave of heat with it. Deciding not to go for the same trick twice, she quickly flipped over the beast. Her parasol remained down so as to blind it to her maneuver and precise location. With that in place, she placed three short stabs into its back. She lifted her parasol as soon as she could tell the hound had broken from running out of health. There was little else that she could do but work her way deeper into the cave. Though Roman had been doing little more than acting as a cooler for her, she was able to make sure that he had a few chances to use his breath weapon against others. It wasn't that effective in such a hot place, but at least it seemed to hinder their attacks a little bit. Probably wouldn't hold up against the boss in here though.

Not waiting for the room to drain her any more than it still was, Neo made her way deeper into the cavern. Hopefully she would be able to make her way out of it. Of course, it was uncertain whether or not she could last indefinitely in here. She had attained the survival skill a while ago, but had declined to put any of her value training into it. There was little enough to go for that as it was. There was no way she wanted to sink in more effort into something that didn't come into play that often. It was much better to just leave it as it was and let herself take a bit more damage.

As she was thinking to herself, another Hell hound came up to her. It seemed a bit more wary, probably because she was so deep into the cavern now. She doubted that there were many others that came this far, besides that thousands of players that had probably cleared this quest before her.

Realizing this hell hound couldn't have actually been alive that long, Neo wuickly madee her way forward. The dog charged at her as well as Roman flew over the battle. He wouldn't be able to do much to the beast itself, but he did manage to create a patch of ice that it slipped on. Having lost its footing, Neo was quickly able to dispatch of it without needing to wait on it to open itself for an attack. Now grateful that these things were so weak, Neo glanced. At her health bar once more. The room was starting to drain her faster and faster as she made her way deeper into the cave. She heard a roar come from not too far back. Though she was worried if she could make it, it appeared that she was almost at her goal. There was only one thing left in thiis cave that she needed to kill, and it just gave away its location.

Neo approached with caution, not wanting to provoke the beast too quickly. Instead, she ended up walking around it towards the back. It was a large dog with flames for a pelt. In the front of it, it had three heads instead of what would be a sensible one. Though the dog seemed awake, they weren't actively searching for anything. Each of the heads had a health bar next to them, so Neo figured that would be their weak spot. Letting the sound of the heat cracking on stone drown out her footsteps Neo came up behind the dog, changing fdirection if it began to rotate. As soon as she was close enough to grab the tail, she charged up her sword art. The soudn of it gave her away, but it was already too late for the beast. She quickl leapt over its back and stabbed the middle head three times from the top. It's health bar depleted and the head went limp. The other two heads tried to attack her, but to no avail.

Neo immediately went for another attack, swinging over to the right head and quickly making it go limp as well. There was only the one head left, and it quickly tried to take a bite out of her. Thankfully, Roman had some perfectly timed fire to get it out of the way. It was able to make the beast recoil enough that Neo had the time to dodge the attack. Checking her health bar, she noticed that the room was still draining her health bar. She would need to make sure that she got out quickly. There was still quite a bit in her health bar, but it would be better if she could exit the cave with it being higher. The beast was nearly down, so it shouldn't be a problem. What would be a problem was if there was something to pin her in here. That could mean the end of her.

Not waiting for another opening, Neo continued her rush into the fray. The last remaining head of the beast opened its jaw at her, and she quickly stabbed her sword through the roof of it three times in quick succession. It was a simpler attack, but still enough to take it out. As the third head went limp, the whole beast expanded until it shattered. Her rewards came up onto a screen and Neo made her way towards the exit of the cave. There was little in her path and she was able to make it out safely. Her health was hurting a bit, but she was doing better than the last boss she had faced. This one was probably supposed to hit much harder, but she was also getting better with her weapon. Perhaps now she could finally find herself with enough damage to make it to the front lines.

Once she was out of the cave, Neo made her way towards one of the lava flows in the area. Though she had no idea if there would be anything of note within them, it would be worth at least trying them. After the heat of Inferno Cavern, the heat coming off of the lava felt like nothing. Casting her line in, she quickly felt it snage on something. It appeared that there was more in this river than she figured. Trying to reel in her line, she felt it slowly give. Eventually she saw the top of a treasure chest made of tungsten surface. It waasn't that large, but based on the material there had to be something of use in their. Once it was out of the lave and cooled down more, she moved to go open it. She kept her weapon at the ready though, wary of any possible mimics that could surface from it.

The chest opened and Neo was hailed with a decent selection of goods. There was a fair amount of Col as well as a couple of materials within it. Due to the size of the consumables, she wasn't able to actually find anything that she was able to really use. There was a couple of unidentified consumables, but she could probably make it on her own. Perhaps someone else might be aable to use them though. She could also probably go pass it off to another merchant and have them identify/junk sell the item. She had no use for most, and wanted to support the player shops. Though Shield was nice to have, it would be best if she could make sure his shop didn't go without anyn competition. It was good to have some security by denying someone absolute tyranny over others within a market. Of course, most people were charitable as they were all stuck in this game.

Casting her line in once again, Neo could tell that there was something quickly grabbing onto it. As she reeled it in, she realized it was a hostile mob. Appparently there was nothing to fish up in the river after all. Tossing her line back into her inventory, she prepared to fight what appeared some sort of amphibian rock fish. It might be relatively tough,, but she hoped she oculd find a few chinks in its rocky armor. Roman had also perked up as she sent a thought towards him. He would hopefully be able to do a bit more in this fight. There was something not on fire for once. Still, Ice may not have much of an effect against it. It had sunken eyes, but was still seemingly able to see her just fine. It was moving along the land without much of an issue. Hopefully it wouldn't be as tough as it seemed.

The fish tried to lunge at her, but was slowed down with Roman's ice. Taking advantage of it, Neo lunged in and looked for a crack in the defenses. She seemed to find it, as thhe fish keeled over with a large portion of its health suddenly missing. It was not going to be lasting for too much longer. Hopefully it wouldn;''t defelct any of her attacks. For now it was on the ground and bleeding out, so Neo took the opportunity to back up and avoid any lashing attacks that may come from it as it rose back to aa standing position. Now that she was outside of the cave, she was pretty sure that she could take it out with the amount of time that she had. There was no need to rush through the fight now. Roman seemed to agree with her, as he also held back a bit. The fight had no pressing matters that required this fight to end quickly.

Though things were going well, Neo was worried just how hard this fish might be able to hit her. To make sure she didn't have to find out, Neo was doing her best to dodge around the slow attacks of the monster. It seemed to be working well enough. The beast was so slow that she was able to get in a few stabs of her own. There was quite a bit of damage on it now, and she was surprised it wasn't quite dead yet. It seemed one more  weaker attack would be enough to finish it off though. She jumped back a little bit, goading the fish to come towards her. She waited for the opening she needed to finish it off to appear. Just a little bit longer and she could start making her way back towards the town. Once there, she would want to make her way towards the 13th floor, there was something that was going to be going down soon.

The fish did its best to hobble over to Neo. It seemed to have a couple of small legs that let it move on land, but they weren't much. This was obviously a creature meant to be in the lava. Heck, it would probably disintegrate if you placed it into too much water. She quickly charged it, though not going full blast with her attack. If she was going to be having another fight soon, she wanted to be at full energy. The attack landed, though she did feel the tug of her assist skill. As its price, it surfaced the memories of her killing the digital version of her twin sister. Though it was mortifying, Neo could afford to collapse as the beast had already shattered. If that was going to be the cost of using that skill, Neo was unsure if she would ever be able to deal with it.

Neo began to make her way back towards the town now, trying to piece together exactly what she saw. She could tell it was from the skill she earned back on the sixth floor. It brought up the memory of her twin sister. It was painful, sure, but Neo felt like she would be able to get over it. It was going to be another burden she would have to bear. Just like the thought of Vanilla sacrificing her life only for Neo to supress her memory entirely, just like Amethyst dying in front of her for no reason. There was going to be a time and place for her to finally let it all come crashing down on top of her. Right now was not that time. SHe needed to make her way towards the thirteenth floor. Of course, she realized that she would need to make a stop by her shop. There was going to be plenty of people there and she was hoping that she could give away a few of her items there.

The journey took just as long coming back, but she felt like she was lighter on her feet now. Perhaps it was her increased confidence in the use of her weapon, or perhaps she could just feel a bit more happy knowing that she was going out to help people. She returned to Vulcan town and turned in her quest. Once the rewards were given, she heard the little ding of herself leveling up. investing some skill points and making her way to the teleporter, Neo prepared for the weight of all the food items she would soon be carrying. For once she was glad that the road to and from the smaller town was usually not that busy with people or monsters. She had no idea if there was an encumbrance system in this game, but she didn't want to find out as she faced a mob. Once in her shop, she made a few more items and quickly departed for the churhc. They had sent their call out a while ago and she should've gotten there sooner.
