The first Wolf charged in and Alec buried his axe into the back of the charging Wolf opening a large slash in it that jetted out red pixels. As the Wolf neared Alec swung his shield around and knocked he Wolf off to the side harmlessly to the side. The second Wolf followed right behind the first and found a gap as Alec swung his shield into the first Wolf the second managed to open a small cut on Alec and in return the Shield of the Thunderhearts hummed and then SNAP shocked the Wolf with a burst of static electricity that jerked and jolted from the shock. As the Wolves shied away from Alec he brought his shield back around in front of him again and raised his Mithril Axe high and readied it to strike a Wolf

Alec swung his axe down at the charging first Wolf. His swing went off to the side and as he missed the Wolf came closer and Alec brought his shield in between himself and the Wolf causing it to miss him. The first Wolf opened a hole for the second and it slid in behind Alec's shield and snapped at him opening a small cut in Alec.

Alec swung his Mithril Battle Axe at the first Wolf as it charged in at Alec  but Alec's swing went wide and he missed the Wolf as it charged in. Alec swung his axe down at the Wolf as it charged in but Alec's swing went wide and he missed the Wolf as it charged at him. The Wolf lunged in at Alec and bit at him but Alec’s shield got into the way and blocked the Wolf as it tried to attack him. The second Wolf charged in and slipped past Alec’s defenses biting him in the leg as Alec was busy blocking the first Wolf to charge in. The nip from the Wolf opened a small scratch on Alec’s leg and leaked out a small amount of red pixels. The Wolfs turned and launched themselves back at Alec without pausing. Alec brought his shield up in defense and swung his axe down at the lead Wolf.

As the Wolf charged in Alec swung his axe down and buried it into the charging Wolf. The blade sunk into the Wolf's hide and opened a slash in the Wolf that spurted red pixels. As the Wolf charged in it slammed into Alec's shield it thrashed and bit at Alec till it scratched Alec. As the Wolf thrashed against Alec's shield it began to hum and then SNAP it sent a surge of static electricity into the Wolf shocking it. As the second Wolf came at Alec he moved his shield into the Wolfs path and blocked it as the Wolf was blocked by Alec's shield it bit and scratched at Alec opening a tiny scratch in Alec's arm. As it was suspended there Alec's shield hummed again and SNAP sent another burst of static electricity into the second Wolf as well.

As the Wolves charged in again at Alec he swung his axe down and chopped into the leading Wolf opening a large gash in its back that shot out red pixels. The Wolf launched itself at Alec and opened a small slash in Alec but the Wolf got caught on Alec’s shield and Alec’s shield began to hum and then SANP it shocked the Wolf with static electricity. The second Wolf dove in behind the first and opened a second scratch in Alec as well but it too caused Alec’s Shield of the Thunderhearts to begin humming and then SNAP it shocked the second Wolf as well. Both Wolves bounded away and crouched low preparing to leap again. As the Wolves bounded away Alec brought his Mithril Axe up and summoned the energy needed to power a Sword Art. Alec felt the energy course into his body and Alec directed it into his axe causing it to begin vibrating as the axe head began glowing an orange hue. The energy coursing through Alec built and as more flowed into him he directed more into his axe the vibration in his axe built till it shook with the nearly uncontrolled power and head of mirror polished axe glowed bright orange like a torch. When Alec couldn’t hold it any more he swung his axe in a wide arc and unleashed the power in the Sword Art Crescent Thrush. The Wolves charged leaping at Alec teeth snapping and mouths salivating.

As the Wolves dove in Alec channeled the energy for a Sword Art. As the power reached its peak swung his axe in a wide arc he stepped forward to brace himself and stepped on a rock and turned his ankle causing him to loose his balance and the energy streaked away as he tumbled and fell flailing and landed flat on his back staring at the sky. The first Wolf was so close to Alec that when it leaped it jumped right over Alec as he tumbled and fell to the ground. The second Wolf was far enough behind that it saw Alec fall and lunged in snapping at Alec and sinking its teeth into Alec's arm opening a small cut there.

Alec summoned the energy of a Sword Art and as he reached the peak of energy he swung his axe in a wide arc at the charging Wolves. He stepped forward to brace his footing but when he set his foot down he placed it on a rock and caused his foot to turn and he lost his footing slipping and falling tumbling over and falling landing flat on his back staring at the sky. The lead Wolf charged in but was too close when Alec slipped and fell causing the Wolf to dive over Alec and miss him completely as it dove right over Alec’s body. The second Wolf was far enough behind that when Alec slipped and fell the second Wolf charged in and latched its teeth on Alec opening a small cut. As Alec picked himself up from the ground and stood up both Wolves charged back in snapping and biting at Alec as he brought his shield up to defend himself and brought his axe high to swing down at the leading Wolf.

As Alec stood, the Wolves lunged back in at him. He brought his shield up to defend himself and swung his Mithril Axe down at the front Wolf he sunk his axe deep into the leading Wolf he opened a slash in the Wolf that shot out red pixels from it. The Wolf jumped onto Alec and was held in place by his shield as the Wolf snapped and bit a scratch on Alec in response Alec's shield began humming and then SNAP it shocked the Wolf with stored static electricity. The second Wolf dove at Alec but missed Alec with its snapping teeth and jaws.

As the Wolves attacked again Alec swung his axe down fiercely he buried it deeply into the first Wolf to come at him. The head sunk deep and opened a large cut in the Wolf. The Wolf took the hit and dove at Alec landing on his shield as it twisted and snapped finally catching Alec with a claw that opened a small cut on him. Alec’s shield responded and began humming and then SNAP it released a burst of static electricity into the Wolf as it was suspended on Alec’s shield. The second Wolf dove in and was knocked to the side as Alec brought his shield up to defend himself and block the attacking Wolf with it. The Wolves jumped back and to gain some distance but then dove in at Alec. As the Wolves jumped back to gain distance Alec drew on the energy to power a Sword Art. As the energy built Alec’s axe began to thrum and vibrate the axe head started glowing an angry orange color. The vibration in the axe grew till it reached its peak as the axe head glowed bright red Alec swung the axe in a wide arc releasing the energy into Crescent Thrush.

The Wolves charged in and Alec summoned the energy for a Sword Art. As the Wolves came in Alec swung his axe in a wide arc and released the power of Crescent Rush at the Wolves the slash flew straight at the first Wolf striking it across the chest and opening a large slash there. The slash however went wide and streaked over the second Wolf entirely as Alec stumbled again and lost his footing tripping and falling again. The second Wolf took advantage of the prone man and raced in biting him on the arm and opening a small cut there.

The Wolves charged in again and Alec swung his Mithril Axe in a wide arc at both the charging Wolves he released the stored up energy in his axe in an orange arc that flew towards the Wolves the first Wolf took the arc of energy directly in the chest a large gaping gash opened there and a fountain of red pixels shot out of it. As Alec finished the sweep he stumbled and the rest of the orange energy went high and missed the second charging Wolf completely and Alec fell to the ground again. The Wolf howled in pain and missed Alec as it cringed from the pain of the slash. The second Wolf took advantage of Alec’s fall and dashed in nipping him and opening a small cut in Alec that leaked red pixels. Alec picked himself off and raised his shield between himself and the Wolves as he brought his axe down at the nearest Wolf.

As the Wolf charged in Alec slapped it away using the flat of his shield to redirect the Wolf's charge. The second Wolf followed in closely behind the first Wolf and Alec responded the same as he had for the first Wolf and its attack and slapped the second Wolf aside with his shield also. The Wolves rolled away from Aleve and regained their feet as they stalked in a tight circle glaring and growling at Alec aggressively. Alec brought his Shield of the Thunderhearts up before him in a defensive stance as he raised his Mithril Battle Axe high over his head tensing his arm in preparation to swing down at the charging Wolves.

As the Wolves charged in Alec prepared to swing but as he did he lost his footing and began to slip. The first Wolf leaped and drove itself into Alec and bore him to the ground pinning him under his shield. The Wolf snapped and bit at Aleve and finally opened a slice in Alec's cheek. As the Wolf stood stop Alec's shield it began its tell tale hum then SNAP it jolted the Wolf with static electricity causing it to shimmer and then explode in a shower of red pixels that shot into the air and rained down then disappeared entirely. The second Wolf missed and jumped harmlessly over Alec and landed beyond him.

The Wolves charged Alec in a rage. Alec swung his Mithril Battle Axe at the lead Wolf but lost his footing in the process and began to slip and fall. The Wolf dove at him and rode him to the ground snapping and biting the whole way. Finally the Wolf managed to scratch Alec with its attack. Alec shield began to hum and then let out a SNAP as it shocked the Wolf on top of it causing it to explode. The second Wolf loped in and jumped at Alec but his fall caused the Wolf to harmlessly leap over him and land beyond. Alec rolled to his feet and set his stance with feet shoulder width apart and brought his shield up before him in s strong defensive stance. He raised his mirror polished Mithril Battle Axe over his head and readied it to swing at the line remaining Wolf. The Wolf charged in and Alec swung down as it approached.

The Wolf dove in enraged and bit ferociously at Alec finally finding purchase and sinking a tooth into Alec's shoulder releasing a small stream of red pixels. The Wolf leaped away and Alec prepared for another attack.

The lone remaining Wolf dove at Aleve he swung his Mithril Battle Axe in swiftly chopping into the Wolf as it charged. The Wolf leaped and slammed into Alec biting and snapping furiously. Finally the Wolf found purchase and sunk a tooth into Alec's shoulder making a small hole there. The Wolf bounced away and took up a wary crouch as it growled eyeing Alec balefully. Alec set his feet in a strong sturdy stance and brought his Shield of the Thunderhearts up before him to block the incoming Wolf and finally brought his Mithril Battle Axe up over his shoulder to swing at the Wolf when it charged. The Wolf gave a howl then drove itself at Alec in a fury of teeth, claws and fur as it leaped into the air and soared at Alec teeth bared and mouth wide. Alec brought his axe around and swung at a fourty five degree angle at the Wolf.

The lone remaining Wolf flew at Alec teeth bared. Alec swung at the Wolf at a fourty five degree angle and slammed the head of his axe derp into the side of the Wolf it growled angrily as it flew in and snapped at Alec opening up a slice on his arm. As the Wolf came into contact with Alec's Shield of the Thunderhearts it began to hum again and then SNAP it zapped the Wolf with static electricity causing the Wolf to let out a mournful howl as its firm began to shake and shimmer till finally it burst into a shower of red pixels.

Alec breathed a sigh of relief and holstered his Mithril Battle Axe in the loop on his hip and sprinted toward the injured bear cub. As he approached the bear cub began to growl and pawed at the ground trying to inch away. Alec stopped his movements dead in his tracks and placed his hands out wide in a low position. The began to speak soothingly and peacefully in his deep baritone voice. "Easy there lil guy." Alec rumbled as he inched closer. "No reason to worry I don't mean you any harm. I want to help you." he rumbled soothingly. He opened his inventory and took selected the bag of <<Familiar Food>> causing it to appear in his hand. Alec took one of treats out and held it out to the bear cub. The bear cub sniffed at the air as Alec crept closer still rumbling calming words. "I'd like to you there friend." Alec soothed. "I want you me my companion and friend."Alec said as he reached the bear cub and held out the treat.

As Alec sat down by the bear cub he reached out his hand with the treat in it. The bear cub sniffed at the food and gently took it from Alec's hand and munched on it contentedly. Alec looked down at the bear cub with a mixture of unadulterated joy and heart breaking sorrow. The had fed the bear cub and made it a friend but it was horribly mangled and managed from the two ferocious Wolves. Alec had an idea and spoke softly to the injured bear cub as he again opened his inventory and placed the <<Familiar Food>> inside he then selected one of his Battle ready Tier 1 Healing Potions and it materialized in his waiting hand.

[Alec 0]

The Tier 1 Healing Potion shimmered and wavered in existence in his waiting hand. He gently picked up the bear cub and cradled it with his shield and body as he pulled the cork from the glass vial with his teeth and spat it out off to the side. The cork exploded into pixels as it struck the ground and Alec was treated to the faint taste of peppermint on the tips of his lips from their contact with the cork and the potions contents on it. He slowly brought the vial and its Healing Potion within to the bear Cubs mouth and gently and slowly poured the peppermint smelling mixture into the best Cubs open mouth. The bear cub lapped and licked at the thick syrupy liquid as it poured into its mouth. The bear cub rumbled happily as it drank down the sweet liquid and Alec's heart soared with elation and joy as he watched the bear Cubs wounds heal before his very eyes. Soon the bear cub was at full health and all it's wounds had vanished. Alec's normally cold face warmed as a huge genuine smile broke his features into pure joy and happiness.

The bear cub stretched it's body in Alec's arms and opened it's mouth wide and elicited a high pitched growl which turned into an over accentuated yawn causing Alec to chuckle a low rumbling laugh that started from his middle and rolled out of him easily. Alec hadn't laughed since he'd found himself stuck here in Sword Art Online and honestly never thought he'd find a reason to laugh till he got out but Alec found himself chickling at the bear cub as it rolled out of Alec's arms and the makeshift bed if Alec's Shield of the Thunderhearts. The bear cub rolled around on the ground and playfully swung it's paws at Alec. Alec slung his shield onto his back and swatted back at the bear cub mocking fighting and wrestling with it. It was incredibly strong even for it's small size. Alec continued to play with the bear cub reveling in the joy the play and wrestling brought him.

After some time Alec wasn't sure how long he and the bear cub stopped there playing and both sat on the ground and looked at each other cocking their heads to side. Which of course caused Alec to chuckle again. This little bear cub was really and truly bringing him more joy and companionship since he just met it within an hour or so than he thought he would ever experience here within Aincrad and Sword Art Online. Alec looked at the bear cub. If he were in the real world he would have bet money that this cub was an American Black Bear. It bore all the markings its fur was black not that black bears all had black fur some had brown or a Sandy color but this one mist definitely had black fur.  Its ears were rounded too. That was for sure give away American Black Bears had round ears where as Grizzly bears had pointed triangular ears. Alec looked at the bear cub and asked " So, what should we name you lil guy?" Alec asked as he looked at the bear cub. "Now I have an idea here lil guy so bear with me." Alec said and chuckled the bear cub almost seemed to shake it's head at the terrible pun Alec had just used. " What about Humphrey?" Alec asked. The bear just cocked its head and looked at Alec. "Humphrey Bear-gart?" Alec asked his normally rumbly derp voice raising unusually high as he ended. The looked like it had frozen still in shock and toppled over backwards as Alec let out a boisterous full bodied laugh. "Yes, yes I'm sure if it my friend Humphrey Bear-gart. But don't worry that names just for us. To everyone else I'll just call you Humphrey. How's that friend?" Alec asked. The bear rolled over and sat again and seemed to nod its head as it stood up onto its hind legs then went down to all fours. "Yup. I guess you're right Humphrey. It's about time for us to get out of here and head back to town and find that old gypsy lady and give her back her bag if food but I don't think one more would hurt anyone." Alec said with a grin and a wink ad he opened his inventory and pulled one more treat out for Humphrey.

The bear cub gladly took the treat and scarfed it down happily then stood up and he and Alec began walking through the woods back towards the grasslands beyond and the Northern Gate and the Town of Beginnings beyond that. Alec happily reached down and scratched Humphrey behind the ears as they walked. It was almost like have a dog but bigger and way more cool Alec thought to himself. He smiled to himself as he glanced back down at Humphrey as they walked. The bear cub kept easy pace with Alec using a long slow looping stride that carried it across the ground smoothly and easily. Alec couldn't believe his luck as he and Humphrey continued their stroll out if the woods and stopped at the edge of the grasslands to surevy the scene before them. The high grass swayed gently under the soft wind that blew across in front of them. Alec stepped out into the prairie with Humphrey by his side.

The two new companions walked along as if they'd known each other their whole lives not just this last hour. They shared a bond that felt natural and right. He hadn't felt a bind this close since he married his wife Gwen and though that bond was strong this one felt even stronger. Alec wasn't sure what would happen if this bond were to break for some reason and he didn't want to think about it either. It felt good and strong and right like it was something Alec had been missing this whole time and only just now realized he had not been whole before he gained this new part. Alec loved Humphrey and would do anything to protect him and keep him safe. And he felt a care directed back at him that promised to help keep him safe as well. Alec smiled as he looked down at the bear cub and ruffled the soft thick fur behind his ears. Alec had always felt an affinity to bears maybe partly because of both their large size. Perhaps partly because they were a symbol of power to many peoples. Maybe because they were also a symbol of healing and protection. Alec wasn't sure he could pun it down to just one if those things. It was all of them. Had Alec been more spiritual he also knew that bear would have been and Alec looked around probably was even though he'd never done any ceremonies before. But as Alec thought about it. This seemed pretty close to a ritual to find his spirit mentor and he was more than happy with what he'd found.

Alec and Humphrey made their way across the grasslands toward the Northern Gate to the Town of Beginnings. They passed through the bright sun warmed meadow stopping every now and then took at something or smell of floor. The pair moved as if they had all the time in the world and no where to be. Alec liked the felling he felt calm, at peace and secure. Humphrey added something to Alec that made him feel more stable and secure. The pair continued on till they eventually reached the gaping Northern Gate. As Alec passed through the large gate the guards posted there made not a single to stop either him or Humphrey. And no one else around seemed to take any mild of he pair either. Alec smiled at it all and how common place even something as obscure as this was here. Alec continued till he stood at the center of he plaza inside in courtyard of the Northern Gate entrance.

When Alec reached the center of the plaza he reached out his right hand and swiped down opening his inventory. Once it was opened he scrolled down to his equipped gear and selected his Mithril Battle Axe then clicked it and unequipped it. The MIthril Battle Axe shimmered and wavered and disappeared from existence. Then Alec scrolled to and clicked on his Shield of the Thunderhearts and chose to unequip that next. His shield shimmered and shook then blinked into invisibility. Next Alec scrolled to and selected his Reinforced Heavy Iron Breastplate and tapped its icon to unequip that item lastly. His breastplate wavered and then was gone. Alec quickly selected his bear skin shoulder wrap and selected to equip it. The bear skin wrap blinked into view wrapped around Alec’s shoulder resting easily there. With his no normal reentering the Town ritual completed and out of the way Alec pulled up his map overlay and spotted the market where he had seen the old gypsy woman last.

Alec looked down to his side and saw Humphrey standing there on four legs. Alec reached down and scratched the bear cub on its head and behind its ears. “Come on Humphrey.” Alec said. “We have to go find the old gypsy lady who gave me the <<Familiar Food>> to give to you. I can’t finish the quest unless I do.” With that Alec and Humphrey set off side by side and travelled through the streets of the Town of Beginnings on their way to the last location Alec had seen the old gypsy woman at. The was leisurely and took about a half an hour to get there. When they arrived Alec looked and saw absolutely no sign of the old gypsy lady. SO instead of wandering around Alec sat down on a stone bench that surrounded a crystal clear pool of water with a statue in the middle. Alec stretched out his legs and crossed his feet relaxing for a few minutes before he made any decisions.

As Alec stretched out his legs and crossed his feet at the ankles Humphrey lumbered up and sat down beside him easily laying its head on Alec’s lap. Alec began to absentmindedly scratch the bear cub on the neck and behind its ears. The bear let out a soft contented growl and stretched out too. Nuzzling its head into Alec’s abdomen. Both man and bear cub were lost in their own world not carrying for a single soul around them when suddenly Alec sensed someone approaching from behind him along the arc of the bench. Alec waited till the person got closer to engage them. As the person stepped up behind him Alec heard in a thin reedy voice. “Ah, I see you have found yourself a companion to share your journey with you and I must say in record time as well.” Alec smiled at the compliment and swiped his right hand down to open his inventory. He selected the bag of <<Familiar Food>> and tapped it. The small paper bag materialized in his open waiting hand. “I believe this belongs to you Ma’am.” Alec responded. “It cam in amazingly handy and was invaluable to the success of my quest. I thank you greatly for loaning It to me.”

“Non sense.” the old gypsy woman retorted. “It was all you the <<Familiar Food>> was a placebo. You are the one who summoned the companion and you are the one who tamed it. The food was just a proxy to help you believe in yourself.” Alec chuckled at the whole situation and nodded his head. Of course that is how it would be it was the only way. Alec reached out his hand and offered the bag to the old gypsy woman. She took the offered paper bag and slid it into a fold in her voluminous robes and made it disappear. Alec smiled and looked over his shoulder at he old gypsy woman and said “Thank you for helping me find that piece of me that was missing that I didn’t even know I needed.”

“Non sense.” said the old gypsy woman again that again was all you. If you had no missing piece you would not have looked for me and thus found me. But since you had a missing piece you sought me out and by your own hand found that piece for yourself and filled your own void. I just gave you an idea on how to do it.” she replied with her thin and reedy voice.
